Review from Federica S.
New York, NY
It's annoying that there is only one bartender, and then a useless barback or something that stands behind the bar but can't pour drinks. he honestly picked up my beer bottle to check if it was empty 3 times while I was working on it because he had nothing else to do!
This is the closest bar to my apartment so my roommates and I come for a drink often. I like the narrowness of the bar, the stuffed deer head, and the mini dance floor. It is fun to fill with friends and happy hour is until ten and drinks are cheap but at ten the prices double.
Since we live so close, we always try to talk up the place to get friends to come all the way to us....but it can be hard to find for them because the curtains are often drawn and the sign so small, but that is part of the charm! -

Got my jacket stolen from here on Saturday night March 5. Just wanted to throw that out there. Left a negative impression on my mind, so did the cockroach that we saw on the wall.
Bummer. -

Strange how 3 little steps down from the sidewalk managed to make this little bar/lounge transformed this into an almost-speakeasy like feel. I walked right past this place and needed my friends to come find me.
It was a great place to hang out on a weekday evening for Happy Hour with friends. It never got particularly crowded and never so loud that I had to lean in or shout to carry a conversation. Most people seemed to prefer hanging out by the bar.
There were a couple small tables and bench seating by the back, a little tucked away that made the seating more private and intimate. With great drinks here (I love the well-made cocktails), I think it's a really good place to have as a first date. Nice enough to impress a girl, but not so intense that she'll feel pressured. -
Review from John K.
The drinks were flowing, the music was bumpin. There's a deer head hanging from the wall. 3 Steps is located in an unassuming neighborhood, but don't assume you won't have fun. Good-looking crowd, speedy bartenders, possibly one of the best music i've heard in a while. Get your Two-Step on at 3-Steps asap.
Had my birthday there in Oct and Angie, the hot baroness of 3 Steps, was extremely speedy in her email responses. The venue, although not the biggest of places, was accommodating to my group of 20 and not a single person left sober. Drunk is drunk but for my birthdays, I usually go the extra mile in my search to find a place that might be a bit more obscure than all the cookie-cutter bars/lounges we've been to before, and 3 Steps fit the bill. Go here for a casual drink or for a big get-together! -

I've been here during the week and it's a good neighborhood spot, but I made a crucial mistake coming here for my birthday on a Saturday night.
Considering the small size of the bar and a real inability to section anything off, I became skeptical when they said they could enforce a door policy. Standing elbow-to-elbow is my least favorite thing to do in a bar and I made that clear on a phone call. Unfortunately, I was right to be skeptical. The place was jammed, no one could move, and the party wasn't happy or nearly drunk enough to appreciate the 22 year olds who came down from Murray Hill.
Feel free to reach out to me directly on Twitter (@theinstantwin) if you'd like more context, but let me save you the trouble: It is spatially impossible to have a birthday here, and the owners should be honest about that up front. They're not.
Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars (TV's are great, DJ is good)
Service: 2 out of 5 stars. (Unacceptably bad.) -

My friend had reserved the back area of this bar for her birthday - not in the "Hey, can we get a $2000 bottle of champagne" kind of way but more of a "Hey, I'm having like 30 people come by for my birthday, do you think we could have the seating area in the back so we're not in everyone's way" kinda way and the place was more than accommodating to us.
Don't let the rope outside fool you, it ain't like that. It has a nice, kinda dingey worn-in vibe to it, without being too divey. Comfortable, without being overly flashy or overly dirty. Drinks were decently priced [$6-$8] and they gave us a $5 special on martinis until midnight. The two bartender ladies were cute and friendly; it was nice to NOT get any attitude served with my drinks.
A DJ showed up around 11PM and played a nice, yet random collection of records [yes, records!]. We danced in the bar and no one yelled at us or gave us the stink eye over it [Fuck you and your Cabaret licenses, NYC!]
$25 minimum for a tab. They had some fresh ingredients on hand for margaritas, mojitos, etc, which was nice. Big, single stall bathrooms that were pretty clean. Friendly bouncer outside. Seems like it would be a good spot for an after-work drink yet also worked well for our large party. Tough to find places that can accommodate both! -

What's not to love?
--50% off all drinks (except specialty cocktails) until 10 pm each night
--Very personable and attentive co-owner/bartender - Angela/Angie?
--Cozy space, dimly lit
--Good music
My roommate and I stumbled across it last night after dinner next door at Posto and we absolutely fell in love. We're already planning a party later this spring/summer and I'm already looking forward to returning soon. It's going to be hard to get me to go elsewhere now for happy hour when it's so close to home, the prices are fantastic and the service is awesome. Great little find! -

Home away from home...
Small, unpretentious, and filled with your best friends! I mean come on does it get any better? Actually yes it does. Angie, the owner and bartender is all all you need in a woman! She sweet, cute, helpful, serves you booze, and makes a great drink.
I started coming here two years ago as we threw our New Years Eve Party here. Since then, well 3 Steps and its regulars have become a family. A chill night ordering a pizza from next door and sitting at the bar have a few drinks is just like sitting on your couch watching the game... -

3 Steps is a Nice Little Lounge / Bar
Angie, the owner/bartender, is personable and down to Earth.
There's no cover and no line, and drinks aren't a rip off.
The back area has leather couches to sit and relax on. -

This is my local watering hole! I love this place for several reasons:
1) The owner
2) The Manhattans
3) The proximity to my house
4) How accommodating the place is if you want to have a party
5) The no BS attitude (act like a butthead, you will be kicked out and castrated)
The place does get pretty packed, especially b/c it's also the local watering hole for many industry people, but that usually happens well after my bedtime. ;) -

This is a good local bar. Depending on the bar tender, the drinks range from terrible to very good.
If I want to go out without crossing the street, then I go here, otherwise, I walk a little further. -

This place seems to hire its barmaids based on their ability to fit into (or burst out of) their slinky dresses rather than any actual mixological skill - she informed me that she was "unable" to make any of the cocktails on the menu, as well as being completely ignorant of which kinds of bourbon they stocked ("...umm, whatever you can see...").
It's a cool space that has the potential to be a great lounge but fer chrissakes could I please get a decent drink with the cleavage on the side optional, and not the other way around? -

I was supposed to meet some friends here for a little swanky birthday outting. The birthday girl specifically picked this place because on their website it looked super loungy and upscale, and they also stated that they had half priced drinks until a certain hour. Ok, I'm in!
I got their before everyone else and headed on in. The place was dead! It was 9 pm on a Saturday night and the only people in the bar were the bartender, her friend, and me. I saddled up to the bar and looked over their very impressive drink list and was shocked to see the prices started at $11 a drink. I took a look around at the small little bar that was nothing special, and began to wonder what happened to that swank little bar that I saw on the website. I asked about their happy hour special, and she said they only did that that during the week (which was not stated on the site at that time). Feeling extremely underwhelmed, I ordered a $12 Cucumber Cosmo, which was outstanding... but still not worth $12.
I ended up leaving and intercepting my friends before they arrived and suggested we head somewhere else. If we were going to spend $12 on a cocktail, it was going to be at The Campbell Apartments or somewhere with a view... not a little neighborhood bar trying to be more than it is. -

I had my 29th birthday party here and I have to say, this is such a great bar. After I read these great reviews, I called Angie (owner/bartender) to see if she could help me out for a group of around 30. She was amazing, reserved me an area of the bar and gave us happy hour drink specials for an hour since I had started the festivities early (9pm).
The only reason why I gave it four stars instead of 5 is the unpredictability of the crowd, not the bar. The bar is awesome, its like a lower east side bar tucked away in a remote little area of Grammercy. I think the down side to my night was that there was another bday party on the opposite side of this tiny bar, so unfort.by 2ish it became douchebag central.. and instead of dancing the night away, it was waaay over crowded with frat dudes and the music unfortunately changed from oldschool hip hop/party music to Journey (blech).
But, back in Feb, I went to a Valentines day party there and it was one of the best nights I've ever had and with the bartenders and Angie being so cool, Im a fan of this place and would def. throw another party here again... just maybe not on a Saturday night. ;) -

3 Steps is a local Grammercy bar on a quiet street, the kind of place you go to because you live around the corner (that'd be me) or you're going somewhere else and it's along the way.
Mentionable for the service, but beyond that, there's not much special here. Drink prices are not what you'd be hoping for from a small neighborhood bar and the size tends to mean that it'll either be dead or too crowded. Worth stopping by for an after dinner drink if you're in the area but I've never found much of a reason for sticking around too long.
On a side note, I've heard from my neighbors that they are VERY accommodating for parties (there's a back room with seats) so if you live in the area, give them a call. -

Rating: 3.5 star
Only if this place were bigger. Pros: great music, great location, no cover, and drinks are not outrageously priced. Cons: Too small and can get a lil too hot.
If it weren't so crowded, this place would be close to ideal for a simple lounge. Although it's more like a bar, it has more of a feel of a lounge. -

What a pleasant surprise! I used to live around the corner from this place and it never looked appealing to me, but man, now I really regret not coming here sooner.
After much prodding from a friend, we popped in last night for a drink. It's a really small, dimly-lit place and it was packed! My glasses fogged up immediately, haha. The crowd was a good mix--there was a group of people dressed in AWESOME wigs (great idea! I'm doing this in the summer!), couples out on dates, Carrie Bradshaw and her gang, etc. Nowhere to be found was the expected weekend B&T crowd. Always a plus!
What was surprising was that this place had a cocktail menu. My friend ordered a pisco sour in which one of the ingredients was the white of an egg. DUDE, THE WHITE OF AN EGG. And it was delicious; you don't taste the egg at all! The cocktail prices range from $12 to 14.. totally reasonable.
Bartenders were attentive and friendly, good music playing, decent drink prices, great atmosphere.. all in all, an excellent find! -

great place to have an event
Found the place randomly and loved the vibe----
mixology drinks chill vibe and random s*** on the wall
My kinda place
We checked the place out on a Tuesday -- the bartender was a sweet heart!
Then the party was on the next day a lot busier! There was a different bartender that nice so we were bummed!
Love the gin cocktail with cherry
I also met the owner angela who was sweet too!
She better rock her pearls and pleather pants behind the bar to help!

I had my birthday drinks here this past weekend and overall, it was a good spot. The owner/bartender - Angela - was a real treat. She was great to work with and gave us several rounds on the house, which was nice. She kept checking in on the group and really went out of her way to make sure we had a good time. There is a decent amount of space in the lounge, not a lot of seating though, which wasn't the end of the world. A pretty good DJ showed up around 11pm so that was nice too. The only part that I didn't love was that the crowd was a bit younger than I'd anticipated, later in the evening. Around 11pm is when the age seemed to drop so if you just want to go in for drinks earlier in the night its great, and if you don't mind a lot of 22 year olds jumping around to the DJ, then you'll be good too.
But overall, a good spot, definitely worth frequenting. -

One of my happiest bar experiences in New York ever. I believe they have a half priced special til 9 pm. Could be 10?
It boasts:
Enough darkness to hide your blemishes without making you feel blind.
Music selection that's on point.
A great happy hour that attracts a good afterwork crowd.
Attractive men.
A general warmth and happiness.
The pricing and drinks:
Glasses of wine are $4 during the special, beer runs around the same price. I didn't have any mixed drinks while there, but someone I was with had one. It wasn't included in the half price special. She said it was mixed poorly and cost 10 or 12 dollars.
The music and scene:
The place was crawling with dudes on a Friday night, very attractive local gentlemen :) The music when we walked in around 8 pm was electic without being uninviting, by the time we left there was a live DJ spinning. The place got very crowded but overall it was a *great* experience. -

Dropped in for a drink and was pleasantly surprised to find a happy hour that last until 10pm. The place was rather empty as it was only 8pm on a Tuesday; however, that allowed for prime seating at the window table that is just at or below street level = perfect for people watching. I liked the chill vibe-I'll go back for sure!

We decided to go here for a few after dinner drinks on a Saturday night. When we got in, the place seemed a little dead, and very small. It did start filling up. The bartenders were really nice and very quick on the drinks. Overall atmosphere was fun and they had a pretty good music selection. I would def go back again!

Came here for my cousins surprise birthday party. There was no space, I felt a bit claustrophobic, 20-30 people max without feeling uncomfortable. I had the zoska martini, fruity yumminess (: Despite the fact that it was tiny, everyone had a good time catching up, drinking, and watching basketball.

This place was a hidden gem on a street that was nearly deserted (just a couple of restaurants and one or two bars. You can easily miss it which we almost did but thanks to other yelpers, I knew it was "hidden".
At first, when you walk in, you think. "This is a dive bar". I'm outta here. But being that it was my birthday, I knew my wife was up to something. The place was really small, you couldn't tell from the pics on the website. It actually worked out. The place was near empty so my party had the whole back reserved. Just two or three tiny little tables with a little wrap around sofa. The setting couldn't have been any better. The DJ was playing great Top 40 music (something everyone can recognize) and also old school hiphop and other back in the day songs. It was really nice. We had the bar on lockdown. Half price drinks till 10pm and open bar tab that the wifey took care of so my party was enjoying free drinks all nite. I heard they have great specials all week. The owner who also happened to work the bar was super sweet. She hooked us up nicely. Did shots with us, very cooperative. Everything just went down smoothly. I wonder what's this place like on the weekend?
Anyways, normally I don't go out that much lately but since it was my bday and all, this place was a nice cozy spot to go to after a nice dinner. I hope to come back on just a regular day just to chill with the wife or with some friends. I don't think you can go wrong if you looking for something a bit low key. This is not a lounge place, I would say a cross between a dive bar and the look of a bar/lounge. Nothing fake here. Good times. Good people. If your in the area looking for a late nite spot to go to or a pre/post dinner spot, this is it! Nothing fancy, nothing divey. Just right in the middle! -

Nice small bar on a quiet street. Didn't have to go crazy looking for parking. No crowds so it was a perfect place for a small gathering. $3 happy hour drafts= a lot of draft beer for me.

Angie, the co-owner/mixologist, makes incredible and inventive drinks. Prices are standard for Manhattan, but here they're actually worth it. I prefer the atmosphere in the early evening on weeknights... Saturday nights can be really loud and crowded. Check out the happy hour specials, there are some great deals to be had. I wish they would start serving some sort of food!

This place is owned and run by siblings. They do all the work including cooking and bar tending. Treat them well and they will treat you well. I spent the later part of my night at this place. I had a table which was great because the place is tiny and gets very crowded. I am giving it 4 stars mostly for the music. They played every good hip hop song ever! I was totally happy.

If you're in Gramercy/Sty Town this is a great spot. Went on a thursday night around 8pm no one was there and it felt like we owned the place. The cocktails get expensive, the house wine is okay and overall its really chill. They want you to sit drink and be merry, you can get one thing and they'd be fine if you stayed the whole night. I can imagine it gets pretty packed on weekends.

New York, NY
at first I wasn't a fan because the dj was playing strange 80s and 90s music that seemed more for listening than dancing.but there was a good amount of men, so naturally, my friend and I were pleased.
then as the night warmed up, the tunes changed, I guess the dj could sense that people had drank enough to start dancing!
then the back part of the bar turned into the dancefloor. One guy just came in said hey how you doing. and meant it. rare for new yorkers.
it seems a lot of people there, know everyone else and are regulars. We'd see groups come in, another group join and then shouting and hugging insued and high fives were all around. haha.
the bartenders are plesant and attentive. the owners are also very nice and treat their friends to free drinks and since we were friends with a friend of the owners, their hospitality extended itself to us.
I asked for water, got two bottles, no attitude. no 8 buck charge.
their drink specials are pretty awesome, given new york prices. and they are a nice strength.
a nice mix of ethnicities, and even an openly gay couple. two dudes in huge sombreros. first doorman in a while who was geniuenly nice.
we left, came back after hours and a good portion of the crowd was still there, just as energetic as ever. the owners pretty much close up whenever they feel like it. so drinks were flowing way past last call. it was shoulder to shoulder at 3 but at 4 the crowd thinned out but we weren't without nice folks to chat with.
tiny issues: can be quite crowded and warm.
If you're 5'9 or taller watch out for the speaker the wall opposite the bar.
one bathroom was available when we were there. for men and women.
but all in all. I think I may frequent it more. especially for those drink specials on sunday, 5 dollar cocktails. -

Three Steps looked like it really was NOT going to be my kind of place when I walked up and saw the velvet rope outside. But alas, turns out the rope is just for show -- there was no line and no cover. Inside it was definitely packed, but I didn't wait too long for a drink considering the crowd. I also ordered 5 drinks and once and asked the bartender to close my tab out (a pretty obnoxious request all around), and he was happy to do it with a wink and a smile. The one thing I can say for this place is that the music was great - a lot of fun. It was so crowded that I can't speak to the ambiance or decor, but I had a good time there and moved on to the next bar!

Staying just down the street so stopped by to check it. The music was ok to good, the place was aiight, the drinks were good, so I was hooked. The bartenders know how to make a good drink. Anybody can pour vodka and mixer, add ice and serve, but here the drinks are much better then this! So check it on a lazy cool thursday night if you got nothing else going on ....

I live around the corner from 3 Steps and it is really a great spot especially for the Grammercy/Sty Town area. They have a good happy hour and the bartenders are always really nice. As much as I wanted to love this place, it was just too small. They seem to host charity events or large group gatherings often since everytime I go there, there is some sort of sign-in sheet at the front. Drinks are half off, to be sure, and the bartenders are very friendly but this bar was just too cramped for comfort.
