A friend was in from NJ and the plan was to head over to Hood River to see a friend of hers who lives just across the water in Washington.  We all met in the downtown area to come up with a plan on where we would get some lunch.  We happened to be parked right near this place and the weather was nice.  They have a killer deck overlooking the Columbia River so we decided to go ahead and eat here.

If you come across a nice day (hopefully we will get some of those coming up more consistently) do yourself a favor and try to secure a seat on this deck.  It is a wonderful place to sit while the sun is shining down.

Started off with a beer because what else am I going to do on a Sunday afternoon when I'm out for lunch with friends and the sun is shining and I'm on a 3 day weekend?  That is a lot to take in, but what else am I going to do?  I'm going to enjoy myself and have a beer.  Along with the drinks we had an order of the fried calamari which came with soy sauce and some kind of mayo based orange (the color not the flavor) dipping sauce.  I avoided the latter for the most part (a few dips, but not often) and stuck mostly with the soy.  Nice batter on this calamari.  It stuck around.

For my main meal I had the Fish Wrap ($9.50).  This is a large whole-wheat tortilla stuffed with beer battered cod, cheddar cheese, coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and chipotle sauce and was served with a house salad.  I loved the sweetness that came out of this dish.  I'm not sure where that came from as chipotle is smokey, but I enjoyed it wherever it came from.

There are many options for food in Hood River.  This place is worth a stop if you are around this area on a nice day.  Go for a table outside.  You won't regret it.

The downtown area of Mt. Hood has many sandwich shops and coffee shops.  We were looking for a sit down meal and settled on 3 Rivers Grill.  My first time tasting steelhead. Yumyum! What I ordered was exactly what I had in mind.  I love that the salad did not come with the standard salad dressing, but with a cilantro vinegary dressing. Boyfriend enjoyed the curried lamb.  Not too much a fan of lamb, but 3 Rivers Grill recipe was tasty and moist.  I was dissappointed that ALL the desserts contained dairy.

4-star all the way. The service was solid (with a few holes), the food was good. More like 3-star across the table, but my steelhead was excellent. Delicious beer and definitely understandable prices, though I fear this is about the best that Hood River has to offer and we were looking for a really stellar meal. Criticisms include the fact the sole was very tasteless, the starters were a bit sparse, come to think of it my steelhead was rather dry on one end (we're talking crispy as bacon!), and the server had some difficulty keeping track of our order. Moreover, the crowd at this restaurant ( or just this kind of restaurant in Hood River?) tended to be loudmouth faux wealthy, wrapping themselves up in hilarious red blanket provided by the establishment.

Not a particularly bad dining experience, not sure if I'd repeat, though.

First and foremost i agree with other reviewers in that on a clear day nothing beats the fantastic view of the Columbia River from the patio.  We had a really nice dinner after a hectic day of rafting on White Salmon.  Read the glowing reviews so we decided to try this relaxed and friendly staffed restaurant.  The variety and selection was good and the presentation was very nice, the taste was good but not exceptional. I had the trout picata with white wine lemon butter and capers. For dessert I went with flourless
dark chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream and warm raspberry sauce, the best part of the meal! The prices are a bit pricey, but the ambience and service was worth it.

We live about an hour away from Hood River, but we have contemplated many times just driving in for the Fish Wrap here. Yep, it's that good. Between trips where we were just passing by or going to this quaint town for the weekend, we never miss 3 Rivers Grill.  We have tried many pasta dishes, Crabcakes and even Carnita Tacos. We have yet to be disappointed.

To summarize: Incredible view, fantastic service and location, food = meh.  Great bar.

It is true that 3 Rivers has the best restaurant patio and view in Hood River - it is truly stunning and likely the subject in multitudes of tourist photos.  The building is also characteristic charming downtown Hood River turn of the century rustic style, and the dining room reveals a comforting casual/sophisticated feeling.  This is fortunate, because the food doesn't quite hit what the ambience and truly charming staff promises to deliver.

Another reviewer described it as "faked, in a Senior Dinner / Retirement Home kind of way", which I thought really captured it.  When I got my meal, I immediately thought of a low-end country club wedding dinner I once attended.  The food is just good enough to leave you satisfied, but not thrilled.  There's no food orgasm here, no afterglow, which the earth-toned walls, cool bar area, and oversize photographic prints and friendly, attentive staff seem to imply is impending.

My first meal was a burger and fries 8 years ago.  The burger was fine: a good pub/grill standard on an artisan roll and cooked a little more well than I asked for.  The hand cut fries, however, were starchy and soggy.  I was sort of surprised that they served them, because it was an embarassingly soggy mess. My husband had the rack of lamb, and was disappointed in the generic steamed vegetables and bland quartered potatoes.  He also thought the cut of meat tasted cheap, and on the gamey side.

The second meal was 8 years later, when some friends asked me to come to 2 for 1 steak night, which is a special they offer during the low season to attract locals. I had the Rib Eye, which was supposed to come with mushrooms and gorgonzola.  Though the steak was cooked perfectly, the quality of the cut was pretty ordinary.  The cheese was a tiny little dab hidden under the mushrooms, which were either sauteed oddly or out of a can.

Out of towners will love this place for its central location and beautiful view.  Locals will love it for their specials.  Both will come back and be OK with the food and cheap steaks specials.

We love this place, as a matter of fact I had my wedding reception dinner here.  The restaurant is lovely, the views are spectacular and the food is great.  The bar menu is really great, my husband loved the fish wrap.  This is one of the places we frequent every summer and we always have a great experience here.

This was a mixed bag sort of experience. First the beautiful location in Hood River and very enjoyable patio. Excellent. The huckleberry beverage that was the special - Very Good! The service - not so good. The food - again ok but not great.

I had the steel head with cumin scented rice and mixed vegetables. I guess it was cumin scented rice as opposed to cumin flavored rice because it was totally bland and boring plain old rice. The fish was good - cooked properly and thankfully flavorful enough on it's own because again pretty much plain fish. The "mixed vegetables" were a weird combination of several broccoli florets, a couple of green beans, a single huge slice of carrot and some little fingernail clipping sized slivers of red bell pepper with no seasoning of any kind. It was all flopped on the plate like a grade school cafeteria.

My husband fared somewhat better with his gnocchi with pesto sauce which is why they got 3 stars.

The service was fairly disorganized. Our server was nice but seemed overwhelmed and there were several waitstaff milling about but not much waiting going on. Not sure what the problem was but it could use improvement.

All in all - fairly inexpensive at under $50 for two in a resorty town but not that great either.

A solid three star restaurant.  The view is beautiful, good service, and lovely atmosphere.  Not quite four stars because the food lacks finesse.  My hubby's fish was overcooked, some of the other dishes lacked enough seasoning, and my vegetables were a bit overdressed.  Not a bad meal by any means, but lacking the wow factor you expect for a higher end restaurant.

The view is great.  Sitting outside on the deck in the sunshine is an excellent place to drink a glass of wine with lunch.  The service was pretty good, as well.

The food, however, is not good.  It all felt faked, in a Senior Dinner / Retirement Home kind of way.  The menu claimed "Lamb Shwarma".  It came out with a 'pita' that tasted like a tortilla and had - yes - grill marks on it - perhaps for authenticity, as the Lebanese are known for their mad skills at Southern BBQ.  And the lamb tasted like chicken.  By that I mean, it didn't really taste like anything in particular.  Add some store-bought hummus and tzadziki sauce, and you have mastered "Bland".

That is not to say it wasn't edible.  It was fine.  But it wasn't what I expected.  When you see a white table cloth on an outdoor table, you expect a chef to be in the kitchen.  Not so.

Bottom line:  all presentation, nothing to back it up.  Great spot if they improve their menu.  Much better food nearby.

On my annual Hood River trip, finally made it here. The view is amazing (form inside and out). The owner was there the first time we went and was really nice about accommodating a vegetarian in the group. Giving extra suggestions not on the menu. Food was satisfying, and nice selection at the bar.
The only two things that weren't fantastic is that the service is a little slow (so don't go if you're in a rush) and the specials were repeated on the two days I went.

The restaurant is nice, spare design, the deck looked great but was raining so were inside. Waitress was eager and funny. Wine and martini were good, we settled in for a pleasant evening.
It went downhill from there. I ordered the fried calamari - arrived cool and soft - not crisp , was as if they had pulled it out of a steamer dish, and tasted like big rubber bands which if not done right,  is what it tastes like. Husbands beet salad was good, not stellar. However before we had even begun to finish our apps - here came the main course - plopped down in front of us and the waitress goes out on the deck, where it is no longer raining, to schmooze with a wedding party. Guess us old folks don't count anymore. The time between getting our apps / salad and the main course was maybe 10 minutes- ok for fast food but not for what is listed as fine dining. We then had to track her down to get another glass of wine .
The main courses were both steak - filet and ribeye - again, good but not stellar. The steamed veggies were cold and hard - al dente in the extreme and my mashed potatoes were the color of the carrots due to liquid from the veggies. Dessert had so much ice cream on top of the crumble that it would have been good no matter what.
    Very disappointed in the evening.

Great location and nice place.  Food was decent highest price item on the menu was $23.95. Waitress gets a C+, friendly enough but seemed a little put out. Handed my wife her hot dinner plate without warning, however we saw another waitress who appeared much better.   You can bring your dog on the patio and they will serve him water in a nice doggie bowl. Would eat here again after looking around a bit first.

My wife and I have been here a couple of times.  It's one of the best places to eat in Hood River.  It has some great views, a nice location, and the atmosphere is wonderful.

We weren't incredibly wowed by the food.. but it was good for the price.  The bread that they bring out for free - rosemary garlic - is really good except they only bring a tiny bit out.

Wine is tasty: all house wines are $5 a glass for a nice sizable portion.

We plan on going back again when we unexpectedly drive through Hood River looking for something to eat :)

There's no better spot (if there is, please pass it on!) in Hood River than the deck at 3 Rivers on a warm, sunny day.  The Gorge wind can get a little, um, insistent, but the view is unbeatable.

The food is good, too, especially the crab and salmon cakes.  Nothing blows my socks off, but  then I don't mind keeping my socks sometimes when I'm eating out.  (If I only enjoyed the AMAZING meals and bitched about the rest, I'd be a bit of a bummer to dine out with. )

Their wine list is only alright, but I've found some good bottles on there, and they don't mind BYO.

Waitstaff is sweet and attentive.  Don't ask too much of them, but do enjoy their friendly smiles, and if you have to wait awhile for that side of ranch, just kick back and enjoy the river view.

I've been here many times, with consistent results, and I'm always happy to go back.

If this restaurant was in Boston or Portland there would be waiting lines a mile long. The food and service are some of the best I have experienced. 3 Rivers catered a party for my family for 120 guests. It was flawless. The setting is incredible with direct views of the river; you can watch the kites and windsurfers right from the outside deck.

The food here is fresh, well presented and well prepared. The restaurant is clean, simply decorated with fabulous large wall mounted photos taken by a friend of the owners.

This is a not to be missed stop if you are in Hood River.

First time in Hood River, first time in Oregon, actually, and I had a really great time.

I was really impressed by this restaurant, starting off with the location. The place seems like it used to be a house and was converted into a restaurant, it had this home-y like feel to it. The deck area over looks the river and is just beautiful. I wish I could have taken the weather and atmosphere back to hot ol' Sacramento with me.

I came in on a Tuesday night with a group of 12, and we were immediately accommodated. We sat in the room right in front of the hostess desk and got great views of the town and the beautiful scenery. Our server Alison was very gracious and as the rest of our party was trickling in, she kept us all happy with drinks from the bar while we waited.

For my meal I ordered the bourbon chicken and it came with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and everything was cooked perfectly. The sauce on the chicken was really good. The rest of the party ordered a little bit of everything from the menu, grilled pork chops, filet Mignon, etc. Everyone was satisfied with the food and had nothing but good things to say about it. A few had dessert (they only had 2 creme brulees left..booo) and that looked good too.

Prices were reasonable for the place and the quality of food, if I am ever back in Hood River I will return.

Oh, and extra extra stars for Alison because she gave us all individual checks (a necessity for the business traveler) and didn't even blink an eye when we asked for them. Sometimes there is an eye-roll or two, but she handled it like a pro and it was very much appreciated.

Ambiance goes a long way with me.  So does food.  Maybe it's being a veggie and a foodie that makes me picky, but I like to eat good food--even if it doesn't have meat in it.  That's a bit shocking I know but that's the breaks.

This place has a fantastic location.  It sits high on a corner lot and you can look out at the sights Hood River has to offer.  We sat outside on a warm night and it really was quite ideal.  When it gets dark enough, they light little candle lanterns at each table and they have lights strung about.  Very pleasant to sit and admire while dining.  Again, ambiance goes quite a long way with me.

I ordered the veggie curry.  It was quite pretty to look at but didn't have a whole lot of flavor except salt.  Which is fine if your sodium intake needs a boost, but after a long, hot day in the sun--it just tasted, well...salty.

My dinner companion had the prawns and she said they were fantastic.  I think it also came with polenta which also looked quite scrumptious.  So, there you have it.  Cursed by the meatless monkey.

So if you enjoy a great deck and happen to munch on flesh, I'd say check it out.  If you don't dig on the flesh, I'd say maybe for drinks only.  They have a great local wine and beer list (of course they do, it's Hood River!).

The view is fabulous. The food was mediocre. The service was poor. I ordered raspberry vinegrette on my salad (on the side) and it was inedible (to me). So I asked for Ranch dressing and after a fair wait (we both finished our lunches) I was brought a tartar sauce. At that point I gave up. My husband's lamb pita was a small portion with no sides. I had ordinary fish burrito (they called it a wrap). After the other truly excellent food we have been eating in the area it was a disappointment.

Come for wine or beverages only and enjoy the view.

The view is breathtaking... Unfortunately, the food and service were not. Ordered the calamari and shrimp cocktail along with cocktails. We were planning on ordering entrees, but when I saw the dirty wine glasses, appetizer plates I knew we needed to go... The worst part was the bread was wrapped in a napkin that was covered in something brown! Ew! They need to get it together!

Not bad. Great view, nice decor. Top 40 hits of the 60s an 70s on repeat got annoying. For such an extensive wine list, they only had one kind of wine glass. Th uber cheap one. Not right for a Pinot noir. Filet was cooked perfect. The rest was fine but unremarkable.

If you are looking for a classy restaurant to eat at in Hood River, this place is a good bet.  Beautiful views and a nice open, bright interior give it a great ambiance.  The food is good - I had the crab stuffed sole and my husband had the beef medallions with shrimp.  We both really enjoyed it, but the servings weren't so huge (or too small) that we didn't have room for dessert.

Everything was perfect from prep and presentation to freshness, service, and the beautiful view.  We started with the Calamari, a bit pedestrian of a choice I suppose, but they had a couple very nice dips, one a chipotle aioli and a soy-based sauce similar to tempura sauce.  The Calamari was lightly battered and very crisp and arrived within minutes of our order.  She had the razor clams, which was a fried "fillet" made up of strips of clam breaded with panko, over rice with perfectly steamed veggies.  I had the steelhead over mashed potatos, more perfectly steamed veggies, and a wonderful chutney or compote of mandarins, peppers, and onions.  As recreational fishermen, we are both extremely picky about freshness and this seafood had probably been swimming less than a day before, extremely fresh, excellent flavor.  The simple preparations allowed the flavors of the mains to shine through while complimenting them gently.

Our corner table was in a very nicely appointed dining room done in craftsman style, with an unobstructed view overlooking the river.  Our server was prompt and made sure we were comfortable without being overly solicitous.  In a town sometimes characterized more by its brewpubs and windsurfers, we found this to be a great haven of quality and quietude and the perfect end to a day of visiting the Fruit Loop.

Note they do have a nice outdoor deck if you want to enjoy the breeze and it's clearly favored by larger groups and also by those in the mood for romance.

My party ate a variety of different things and we were all pleased. I had a nightly special - Mahi Mahi with a mango topping and rice. For dessert we had fresh cobbler and everyone enjoyed it. Truly this is a gourment restaurant on the order of a restaurant in a large city like Seattle or Portland. Hood River is growing up.

It's a nice restaurant overlooking river especially when it's nice outside. The service was a bit slow or perhaps the place was busy on a holiday and they weren't used to it. The portions are moderate. I had the salmon teriyaki. It was good but I've had better in other places.  They also had curry chicken salad; some lamb mediterranean dish. I think they certainly had very international flavors.

The ambience is relaxed and elegant and suits the Northwest setting. The filet mignon here rivals that of Sundance Steakhouse in the Bay Area. I have been here multiple times, drawn to the reliability in quality and taste of food. This place is also ideal for larger groups as there is ample seating and several rooms.
