Didn't leave with anything but I still appreciate this petite boutique of a thrift store in Columbia Heights/Mt. Pleasant.  I feel like it's actually on the corner of Irving and Mt. Pleasant and not on 16th. My friend and I walked for days before we found it.

The fitting rooms stunk but the "digging around selection" was decent with nice prices ($7!). My only complaint is they really need to somehow get more (M) and (S) sizes for men. Then again, that's an issue I have with all clothing stores.

    Go Frugalista!

CHEAP AS HELL thrift store on the corner of Mt. Pleasant and Irving in Columbia Heights. I heard of this place via word of mouth -- based on their descriptions, I expected a suspicious, mysteriously stained thrift store.

I was proven wrong! Yes, the place is small and disorganized, but the clothes are clean and plentiful. All the signs in the store are in Spanish, but that's A-OK when they read "sale! $1 suéteres".

Most items are $1 - $4, with the exception of new stock, which can get into the *gasp* $10 range. As of now there is a rack of $5 winter coats. Great quality, 100% wool coats. Can't really beat that.

Most of the stuff is junk, as is customary with every thrift store, but there are a few gems to be had. Upper level is men's and women's, lower level is children's/assorted toys/books. There's some remodeling going on currently, so that layout may change.

There aren't too many dirt-cheap thrift stores in this area, which is why I'm happy to find 3 por Tienda. In the end I walked away with a gorgeous $5 wool coat and some $2 acid wash denim shorts. Even Unique Thrift Store seems a bit pricey compared to here!

I didn't discover this place until it was already "Frugalista", but apparently it was far better when it was under different management. $5 wool winter coats? Not anymore. Maybe for $20, which is still cheap, but like another Yelper said I can get a new Old Navy winter coat at the store for $30.

Most of the items are t-shirts/tanks and dresses. There are also pants and skirts but very little by the way of shoes, bags, outerwear and accessories. This is NOT a vintage store, unless you think a worn out hot pink tank top from Forever 21's summer 2002 collection is vintage.

Other notes: they don't have a register (that means cash only), they don't really speak English (good luck if you have a question), the music is sometimes too loud, and they don't make purchases (I brought a bunch of clothes in thinking they also did consigment - they looked at me like I had 4 heads). Not to mention, last time I was there I had to do my shopping while simultaneously manuervering around 3 little kids sprinting and screaming through the store. I was apparently the only person who thought this was odd, as no one else batted an eyelash or attempted to reign them in. All that said, the staff is friendly enough.

I found one really cute Lacoste halter there and a gingham JCrew skirt, both for $7. A steal, yes, but I have visited the store 3 times and that's I'll I've come up with. If you live in the area (I would not suggest making a special trip for this place) and have time to kill, give it a go - chances are you'll find at least one thing you'll like and it will be $7 or less.

Good practical shopping! Even as "Frugalista," most tops remain in the $7 range. (To be specific, about three quarters of the entire store is on a "$7" rack.)

Heavy on the wearable, light on the haha, that neon paisley blazer is covered in feathers.

Now called "Frugalista" and under new management, it is no longer "cheap as hell."  However, there are still some excellent deals to be had, for those willing to take the time to carefully flip through the clothes.  (But note to managers $7 for a used old navy shirt = not ok.  You really need to go back to a $3 or $4 price range for these things). I think the store is kept up better and the service is friendlier under the new management, which almost makes up for the higher prices...

It's not just price for me - but selection.  I always find something I like here, without a doubt.  While it may have been better in the past, it is still very good now.  probably the best used clothing option in DC proper, in my opinion.  While they definitely have more of the H&M and Old Navy variety, which for $7 can seem a little hard to swallow.  They also have lots of Ann taylor, Banana and JCrew type stuff.  you won't find designer stuff here, but you will find cute clothes you can wear to work or around on the weekends for not more than $7 (mostly).  This is a shop for people who are looking for cheap wearable stuff, not vintage or designer clothing and don't want to sift through 100 $1 items that are crap to find one good thing.
