Review from Dan G.
I've been here a couple of times with the lady, always on weekend afternoons, and we really enjoy it. Every time we go it's not terribly busy and it takes about 20 to 25 minutes to receive the food from the time we placed our orders. The service has always been friendly and we've always enjoyed the various foods we've tried.
I've only tried the pizza once, but I'd totally get it again. I feel it's kind of expensive and ended up getting a meat lover's pizza because it seemed to be a better value than building one with whatever toppings I wanted. The toppings didn't stand out too much and I personally had to pick off the Andouille sausage (I don't really care for smoked sausages as they taste like fried bologna to me). What makes this pizza a real winner however is the crust. It features an excellent thin crispy layer on the outside and the most wonderful pillowy bread on the inside.
The ribs and the pizza weren't our favorite thing that we had here, though. What really makes me want to come back is the Cajun bison burger. When I first tried it, I was going to order something else, but our server told us that fresh bison meat had just come in that day, so we both decided to try it. The base price for the burger isn't too bad, but if you start dressing it up with the several toppings they offer, it can get a little pricey (just like the pizza). We didn't care and were excited about adding goat cheese, spicy bacon and the like to our burgers. We're definitely glad we did because, even though the burgers would've been excellent without them, the additions just made them taste that much better! The burgers were seasoned enough to provide a bit of spice that didn't cover up the delicious, fresh meat, and all of the other toppings we added were fresh and delicious as well. The fries have always been hot and tasty, though not particularly special. If you've had the ones at Schlafly Tap Room, then you'll know about what these taste like. I actually have dreams about this burger and can't wait to come back again for it!
TL;DR: 3 Monkeys is a cool place to check out that features a wide array of menu items. Gold medal goes to the Cajun bison burger which is made with fresh meat from locally grown bison and grilled and seasoned to perfection. Honorable mention goes to the wood-fired pizza which has a crust whose texture is to die for. Give 'em a try! -

I have been here many times, with large groups of people, small groups and just two people. I've been for lunch, dinner, just cocktails and apps, and the magnificent brunch. No matter the occasion or the company, I have always had a wonderful experience at 3 monkeys.
The menu is broad and has options to satisfy basic and sophisticated palettes. The drink menu is great, too
Hands down, the best brunch in town. Chicken lasagna, oysters on the half shell, waffles, bloody marys, what more could you ask for! -

Another Friday, another dinner with friends! (I'm not complaining!)
None of us had ever been to 3 Monkeys, so we were up for trying it. The five of us sat at a tall bar top table near the kitchen. It wasn't nearly as loud as I expected for such a high traffic area, plus being in the bar, so that was a plus.
Our server was only mildly interested in her job at best. And we all know that never makes for an overly pleasant experience when you know your server would rather be about a thousand other places. Oh well, we'll make do. Around the table we had 2 pizzas (one cheese, one meat lovers), fried cod, Kobe hamburger and chicken alfredo. For appetizers we had lobster rangoon and onion rings.
First, let me say the lobster rangoon was fabulous! Very interesting flavor, real lobster and excellent dipping sauce. But folks, that's were the good news ends. Sorry. And so soon... Beyond that one appetizer, everything else was mediocre at best. Specifically, too much dressing on my salad, luke warm entrees, enough grease on each plate to swim in (just gross!) and you add that to a pouty, bored and lazy server and well, it's doesn't add up to a wonderful dining experience.
Normally when we have a bad experience we usually find some redeeming quality that motivates us to say we'll at least try it again. Not this time. There are too many other places that try much harder for the business.
On a side note... What is it with the trend toward unisex bathrooms? Why in the world is that necessary? Not for me and soon I will get to the point where I no longer dine at establishments that don't offer a women's restroom! Why in the world would I want to be in a situation where I'm forced to put the seat down when I'm trying to have a nice meal? Maybe it's just me, but it's a total turn-off for me when a restaurant is set up this way. -

I go here about once a month with my parents, so I have never been there to drink and hang out socially at the bar. My dining experience has always been great! This is one of the few places where I can try something new every time and not be let down. My latest experiment was the Cuban Zoo. It held a variety of flavors in each bite despite the portions being a little on the small side. The Jungle Love Nachos are what I recommend anyone going there for the first time. I often purchase gift certificates for my clients that reside in the County and invite them to participate in South City's Best-Kept Dining Secret. If i had to nit-pick I would say the staff is usually more busy than friendly, with me finding myself waiting to get my drink refilled about 3-5 minutes too long (former server here), though I couldn't complain if I wanted to. Overall, one of the best restaurants in South City and the most reasonable. I trust this helps! -Andy

Three Monkeys, I am disappointed to say I was not thoroughly impressed with your food nor your service.
The restaurant seems as if it were literally run by three monkeys. Why do you keep patrons waiting around for 30 plus minutes when there are several tables sitting around that simply need to be wiped down. Seriously, how hard is it to do this? Give me a rag and I will do it myself.
After waiting around, we were sat right beside the door where the cold wind was coming through every time someone left or entered. As mentioned before, there were plenty of tables open for seating! Annoying much?
My meal was 'OK'. It was pretty bland. I ordered the shrimp and cheese tortellini which did not have much flavor to it. It was a healthy size portion, but not worth $15.
Jason's meal was unsatisfactory too. His fries were soggy, and the chicken was so small that it did not even fit the bun it was settled on. The pricing would have been fair if the food would have been prepared with better quality.
Service was alright. She remained consistent and didn't keep us waiting too long between refills.
I hope my experience next time will be a better one. I think if we order different food and come when it is less busy, we will be more satisfied with our visit. Next time, I think we will opt for one of the pizzas. Our friend ordered that and he really liked it. -

Had a really delicious lunch today at 3 Monkeys! My friends & I completely missed brunch (I was the New Years Eve DD but they decided to drink themselves silly... took them a while to get moving) so we didn't end up getting there until close to 2pm. As much as I wanted the brunch I was A-OK with ordering off the lunch menu as it's a REALLY good size and has a little bit of everything. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, steaks, ribs, it's all there, and it's all damn good.
There were eight of us so we had to wait about a half hour but we finally got a table, and a round of mimosas was obviously a priority. They came out right away and tasted so fresh... I don't think it's hard to mess up a mimosa, but these were better than I've ever had before. I stopped myself after one (such restraint this weekend!) but several hungover bums at my table had a couple of them.
We had a bunch of appetizers at the table, and I can vouch for two of them: the Spicy Guacamole Bites and the Roasted Red Chili Pepper Hummus (both $7.99.) Those guac bites? Wow, really, wow. They're loaded with a blend of cheeses, green chilies & fresh avacado in a crisp wonton shell. I never knew something like this existed but I would definitely go back for those again. The hummus is flavorful and has a bit of spice and is topped with diced tomatoes and feta cheese, and is served with some of the softest grilled pita bread around. Thumbs up to both of these apps. The Jungle Love Nachos and the Stuffed Mushrooms were at the other end of the table and I saw lots of thumbs up for those as well.
I had the Southern BBQ Pork Sandwich for my entree and it was just okay. It's hand-pulled, smoked pork shoulder, smothered in their signature Bourbon BBQ sauce on a kaiser roll. It was almost a little too saucy and left my craving some Pappy's pulled pork... the meat was pretty tough. The pizzas that others got all looked so good though, I'll definitely go that route next time. The fries that come with the sandwiches are five star worthy.
My only gripe? When it came time to get the check, we asked for separate checks. Sure, we probably should've mentioned at the beginning that we would need it split up, but the waitress didn't ask us either. When we told her, she made a huge deal about it and told us "we better remember what we had to eat so we could tell her." Uhhh, I'm pretty sure we can remember what we had, and it's just not that big of a deal. It ended up being totally easy and fine so I'm not sure why it was presented as a catastrophe!
Really fun place with a diverse crowd in Tower Grove, and definitely worthy of a brunch, lunch, or dinner visit. Be ready for a bit of a wait and maybe take the bigger groups somewhere else!Listed in: Wanna Grab Lunch?, Tower Grove Love, Hangover Heaven

We had an hour wait on a Sunday afternoon. I expected things to be exceptional with this long of a wait, and they really weren't.
Oddly enough, out of our table of 4 every person ordered a burger. I guess it was just that kind of day. I thought it was completely and totally bland, and not even worth eating. The fries were the same. Everyone at the table agreed.
I know I should have tried the brunch since it was Sunday, and I might be back to do so, but I kind of doubt it. -

The idea of three monkeys managing and running a restaurant is a novel one in theory. In practice, however, it rarely works out that well. I waited for the hostess to appear from a banana break for over 15 minutes before deciding to cross the street for $1.75 cans of Strohs and a basket of corn dog bites from the Tin Can.
Save yourself the trouble, patient zero, and don't bother with this place. -

I came here with friends for brunch and left a little disppointed. Their brunch is buffet style and they had a lot of food ranging from breakfast to random lunch foods like pasta, cheese and shrimp......but there were a lot of items that were cold, left out too long or not there at all. Everything was fine, just tasted like food that sits in a warmer all morning and isn't refreshed often. The mimosas and bloody marys were good, but I would rather go somewhere for brunch with fresh food that wasn't overpriced.

This place is awesome! We love their pizza and pulled pork nachos. We had our rehersal dinner here and it worked out perfectly. The buffalo chicken pizza is yummy and has great flavor.
The service is a little slow and the place gets really busy on the weekends. Great atmosphere. -

I've been here several times. Living in the neighborhood, this has become one of my favorite "go to" places. I love sitting outside with the dogs when it's nice. A great place for people watching. And during baseball season...the place was packed.
I've had lots of things from the menu, from a burger, to the pizza. Some people rave on the pizza, I don't know....just not my style I guess. Everything else though has been great. There are Jungle Nachos on the appetizer menu that I love.
The service can be iffy from time to time. Sometimes I think they are just a bit under staffed and it shows in the wait staff. Which makes the dining experience not as great. But makes for a fun time of people watching. Especially if you sit outside. (Why do people think that Morganford is a drag strip between stop signs?)
Anyway, highly recommend 3 Monkeys. And if you have iffy service the first time, give it another try...it will probably rock the second time around. -

This establishment is a cornerstone in the "reawakening" that has been taking place on Morganford near Tower Grove Park. They offer breakfast, lunch, & dinner. It is definitely a favorite among people who live in the neighborhood. I do not currently live in the neighborhood but I do spend a lot of time there. For my part, I will say that 3 Monkeys offers a welcoming atmosphere, warm decor, & friendly faces. The menu offers many options to satisfy any taste but I wouldn't necessarily say that anything on there is in the "knock my socks off" category. It is simply just a an easy, laid-back, nice place to go where everyone in the group can find something they like... just what a neighborhood restaurant should be.
That being said, there is one thing that is absolutely stellar about this place & that is the weekend brunch buffet. IT. IS. AWESOME! I'm not one who is big on buffets so that is saying something. They have lots of choices, the food has good flavor, & the price is very reasonable. It is definitely a good value. So, even if you don't live in the neighborhood or aren't nearby visiting someone you know, you should add 3 Monkeys to your list of Brunch places to try. -

My husband and I live nearby and this is our go-to place when we don't feel like cooking. We are pretty well in a rut of getting the pizza. For awhile we always got the "red, white and blue" which consists of pepperoni, blue cheese crumbles and ooey-gooey melted cheese. Recently, we switched over to the "4 cheese" and we love it. I can't remember all four cheeses but I know there is goat cheese involved and I love it! FYI, this pizza has a pesto base rather than the usual tomato sauce and it is a great change.
The only item I have ever had here that I didn't enjoy was the ribs. They were dry and the exact opposite of "fall-off-the-bone." Also, a lot of people rave about their pulled pork but I did not enjoy it on the nachos. For apps, we love the guacamole bites and potato skins and the hubby recommends the hummus.
On our most recent visit, I learned that they have jumped on the cider trend so I got my first taste of their new Crispin cider. It was delicious!
If you are lucky enough to snag a table outside, it's the perfect place to sit back and relax. -

I really struggled choosing the stars...I wanted to give it a 2.5 but since it wasn't an option. I'll use Lady Danford's rule of 5 (5 & above round up). Sadly it appears 3 main variables have remained the constant at 3 Monkeys:
1) popular spot to grab moderately priced meal
2) management/staff is still disorganized & unable to handle their crowds
3) variables 1 & 2 are continually & drastically affecting the food production & service
Weds. evening at 7. Table for 4. No room at the bar or at the high tops. Was told it would be 20-30 min. It took 40 min. No one asked for a drink order or if we wanted an appetizer while we waited. 2 men at the end of the bar clearly had too much to drink, couldn't remain on their bar stool, then broke 3 glasses and the bartender continued to serve them.
We considered leaving but figured we had put enough time into it here and our pizza wouldn't take that long. Once we were sat, our waitress was friendly but very distracted. I wonder if they schedule enough servers?
Buffalo Chicken pizza was truly the most incredible blending of sweet tangy and eye-watering spicy!!! Nicely done 3M. However, your menu should read with (*) behind hamburger that it is spicy. It tastes like it has been tossed with spices or combined with sausage. Most people wouldn't mind the 3+ pounds on their pizza (great value) it is hard to handle if you have a soft stomach and could ruin one's meal. Information is power.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went to 3 Monkey's for a Supper Club last month. I'd never been there before but I had heard decent things about it.
We made reservations, but were told we could only stay 1 1/2 hours on the reservation. So that was a little awkward. We had less 10 people for the dinner.
Service was slow. We did get there at Happy Hour and our waiter was very helpful with getting some discounted drinks and apps on the table. But when it was time to order food, they took the order and then we waited and waited. I get that we had a big table, but it just seemed much longer than a typical big table wait. We didn't have weird orders either.
I ended up ordering the crab cake wrap because it sounded intriguing and I'd never had one before. It came with some kind of "sauce" but when asked what the sauce was, they couldn't tell me. So I didn't get it. All the waiter knew was there was shellfish stuff in it. MMMMM Kay.
So, Crab Cake Wrap = Not so good. Maybe if it had the mystery "sauce"?? I will say the potato skins were good and a few other people got pizza's which received really good responses.
Overall, I wasn't really impressed. I was put off by the time limit of the meal. I think we went over the time limit, but we felt pressured because of a time table situation. Food was eh. Cocktails were good. I probably won't make the extra trip to try it again. -

I will be back to 3 Monkeys for one reason and this one reason only, they have Crispin on tap. Crispin is an alcoholic apple cider type drink, the most widely known comparison to Crispin is Woodchuck, but Crispin tastes less like sugar and more like apples. It is delcious out of a bottle, but even more delicious on tap served over ice.
Both times I went to 3 Monkeys, I sat at the bar and there were very strange conversations happening between the bartender and other people sitting at the bar. Some things I did not want to be hearing...
I ate on one occassion. The pizza was okay and the wings were actually good. Neither were good enough to get again though.Listed in: Ain't no thang but a chicken…

I've been here a handful of times, usually because whoever I was with wanted to go. I always think it has a lot of potential, but never really delivers. On my most recent trip, we were sat in the dining room as opposed to the bar area, and I have to say I wasn't a fan. The atmosphere felt completely different and I just felt removed from everything (even though it was a week night and there wasn't really anything going on). If given a choice, sit in the bar! The food is "a-ok" but really nothing to write home about.
Last time I was here my friend and I decided to just split an appetizer (spinach & artichoke dip I believe) and have a few beers. Our waiter seemed a bit put off by this, and kept disappearing. Dude, when you only have a handful customers, I'd recommend not ignoring those you do have. we probably would have ordered another round, but apparently our presence was an inconvenience. I know plenty of people who love this place, but personally I'm just not overly impressed. -

Met a friend and her Mother for Sunday brunch. I arrived 20 minutes early and put our name on the wait list . . . 30 minutes, hostess said. There's not much room to stand around waiting for your table!
Hostess was kind enough, however, to direct us to some bar stools in the middle of the room for our wait, so my friend's 80-year-old Mother didn't have to stand!
When we got our table, our server presented the lay of the land, where the food is, leave your plates on the table and get a clean plate when you go back, keep your silverware. It was wonderful to have that info at the get-go.
I got a bloody mary, asked for it to be tamed down with a little extra tomato juice, and it was perfect. My friend got a bloody mary and her Mom got a mimosa. Everyone enjoyed their libations. And we had large water glasses.
Began at the big line, an L created in the dining room: quiche, green beans, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, waffles, cheese and salami cubes with crackers, two little hors d'oeuvres I didn't understand what they were, short ribs, 5 or 6 other dishes I can't remember. The chafing dishes were workin' hard, and all the food was hot.
Next station was the fruit -- all manner of fresh fruit -- and seafood (mussels and boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce). Desserts also were at this station.
The cheese pizza was under a heat lamp at the carving station (roast beef with au jus and horseradish sauce), where they also make omelets to order.
My friend and her Mom each got a couple desserts they really enjoyed. One was a cheesecake with cherries. Another was a three-layer cake with caramel between the layers.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections. Probably among the three of us, nearly everything was sampled! Nothing was a standout, but it was a solid offering of good food! -

Best pizza pie in Saint Louis. At this point, I've had every one of their specialty pizzas, and there's not a bad one on the menu. My personal favorite is the Fire in the Hole.... spicy BBQ pork, jalapenos, and pepper cheese!? yes please!
Also, the best brunch I've had in a long time. They have a rotating buffet of gourmet breakfast and lunch items, plus a beverage for around $15. They have outdoor "dog friendly" seating in the front that makes for an great summer lunch with your pup too! -

I went to 3 Monkeys with a large group to celebrate a friend's birthday. Despite the size of our group on a very busy Friday night, the staff was happy to put a few tables together to accommodate us. They were also very pleasant about splitting checks ten or so different ways, which I know is a big pain in the ass, so I have nothing but good things to say about the staff. Great job, everyone!
Although it took an understandably long time to get us a table, I don't think anyone in our group cared - the bar staff and the $3 Schlafly drafts kept us drinking happily.
I've heard good things about the pizza at 3 Monkeys, but I kept things small and cheap for myself with an order of red beans and rice (one of my favorite dishes, by the way). The aforementioned cheap Schlafly may have affected my judgment, but I think it was some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommended! -

If there was only a 2 1/2 star "Meh, I'd go back" rating.
The beautiful wife and I have visited twice -- once for Sunday brunch (as she reviewed) and again for lunch on a Saturday last weekend.
I can't say I was blown away by either visit.
At brunch, as she described, it's all you can eat, plus a complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary. I went with the Bloody Mary and it was pretty good. The buffet was lacking -- the chafing dishes (even closed) didn't really hold a lot of heat in, so just about everything was lukewarm.
As she had a shrimp, I sampled an oyster. Mistake. Again, no violent vomiting, but you just knew it had been out just a bit too long (or was a bit too old. Or a bit of both).
However, on the good side was the chef carving the beef -- this was excellent. And bonus points for him dipping the beef into a container of hot au jus. Au yum!
Service was good and our used plates were cleaned up promptly. Yeah, even with less than stellar food, I'll get seconds. Glutton for punishment? No, just a glutton.
Anyway, for our lunch visit, ehh, it was fine. The beautiful wife had BBQ pork sandwich, which was OK, but nothing special [insert the standard, "if it ain't Pappy's... disclaimer here]
I had the Cajun bison burger, which was fine, but nothing special.
Of course, with them having Guinness on tap, that was sampled -- decent pour.
Service was friendly and prompt on both visits, so no problems there.
Right now, I'm not overly excited by 3 Monkeys. BUT, I'd gladly use them as the alpha and/or the omega of a Morgan Ford pub crawl.Listed in: Guinness is Good For You

Things I Like About 3 Monkeys:
-Ordered medium burger, got medium burger
-Reasonably priced food.
-The front doors are impressive.
-Good location.
Things I Like About Real Monkeys:
-Very impressionable. Easy to train.
-Too expensive to keep as pets, making them a luxury and this adding to their allure.
-Adorable faces and they rarely bite.
-They have tails.
Things I Hate About 3 Monkeys:
-Waitresses, unlike real monkeys, did not learn basics of drink refilling or order taking.
-Waited for a table on a Thursday.
-Parking was a bitch.
-Overpriced drinks.
-Only carry weird beers in effort to be cool.
Things I Hate About Real Monkeys:
-Though precise on technical aspects of serving, don't know jack about customer service.
-Throw their own feces.
-Have no souls (except Curious George).
-Attention whores.
-Smarter than dolphins, but super lazy couch potatoes who waste their talent. -

I just got back from the brunch buffet at 3 Monkeys. I wanted to type this out before the food-induced coma sets in!
The brunch was delicious and superbly priced. And the fact that the buffet comes with a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary makes it a steal! We walked in and the front of the place was packed, but there was still no wait. We were seated immediately-- which was a good thing, because we were hungry. After grabbing our drink orders, our server gave us a quick run-down and let us loose. I am not a bloody mary drinker, so I had a mimosa. It had a good flavor.
As for the vegetarian fare: There were a substantial amount of options. Eggs (which were a little bland, but every table had a bevy of condiments), tater tots, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, delicious fried spinach and jalapeno puffs, and plenty of fresh fruit and desserts. They also had an omelette station, but I had to save that for next time. Definitely a nice selection if you are looking for some classic breakfast comfort food.
All of the staff were pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Keep up the fantastic work! -

The atmosphere of three monkeys feels as though it conflicts with itself. It can't seem to make up its mind about what type of place it is. I believe it's a bar and grill trying to be a serious upscale dining establishment. This is not to say it's terrible, because it's not. It's just not great. It does have great happy hour specials and for the most part a good staff. So, it's A-OK and I hope they make up their mind and improve to whatever they want to be!

Because it is in my neighborhood I gave 3 Monkeys more chances than it deserved. I've had both hit or miss food and service in the times I've gone there. I had a great breakfast there, then had a horrible one. One time I tried the pizza and thought it was very good, then the next time I got the pasta and it was an oily disaster. When the stars aligned and I got bad food and bad service at the same time, I put them on my "dead to me" list. In a tough economy I want to spend my money where I know I can count on the food and service. 3 Monkeys may improve over time, but I'm not going to spend my money to find out.

Review from Amy D.
I really want to love 3 Monkeys, but I just can't. I will preface this all by saying that I haven't been there in a few months, and I hope that things have gotten better but there's a reason I haven't been back in months.
The first few times I went to 3 Monkeys for lunch. It was good, close, and it has a really cool look. I like the wood and large windows.
The first time I went a guy across the way was grabbing lunch by himself so he was seated at a very small table and he ordered a pizza. They put the pizzas on those racks like other pizza places, but their racks must have been really cheap because they don't function very well and have no rubber to stop everything from sliding around. Needless to say, the result was a pizza on the floor. They need to upgrade their pizza racks.
Anyway, their lunch was pretty solid though I did notice that they've changed things up a little with their menu. Some of the staples on the menu I like, and some of the creativity is kinda nice -- a salad or nachos with BBQ pork??? Interesting and good! But skip the salsa on the nachos because I'm pretty sure it's just tomatoes and applesauce. I think this was another attempt to be creative with the food but salsa is supposed to be spicy not applesauce.
But I've had some bad food as well--not bad like bad culinary idea or bad because it's just not my taste--I mean bad like completely black toast on a Reuben that they tried to serve on the bottom of the sandwich like no one would notice the charcoal taste; pasta in milk that was supposed to be a cream sauce but was really just milk on noodles; and cod fried in oil that was not even close to hot enough so that I'm pretty sure there was more oil in it than cod (though to be fair that was only one of the 3 pieces of cod that I got and the others were really good, but it still shouldn't have been served).
Also, their service is fairly slow and/or inattentive. There isn't much room when you first walk in to wait to be seated, which is fine or it would be if someone paid enough attention to seat people promptly. I've had to stand there for much too long at times when the restaurant was not busy. Drinks can also be slow to come and be refilled.
And they need to get their trash situation outside together. If you park on the side street you walk past their oil waste, and it is disgusting with oil stains leading from it to the street so that you have to jump over it while you're walking on the sidewalk (or i guess you could just walk in nasty oil). I also once saw a mouse running from the oil to the building right by it.
Before I went last time, I said this was it's last chance and that's when I got the oily cod piece and my mom got the applesauce salsa. Other than those two things, it was a fine meal though. I might give it a second last chance sometime if the mood strikes for some of that BBQ pork because like I said I really want to like this place and I hope things have improved since the last time I went. -
Review from Laura S.
I headed here for the Sunday brunch buffet with a friend who was very enthusiastic about the food. While it wasn't completely terrible, I was very disappointed - I am a big fan of breakfast foods, and brunch is a hard meal to do wrong. But nothing I got here was very good or satisfying.
I felt like the buffet menu was missing a lot of brunch staples. I walked halfway down the main buffet table before reaching anything that resembled breakfast food. Potatoes are a must-have brunch food, but the only options were scalloped potatoes with ham (WAY too much cheese, way too few potatoes!) and tater tots, strangely labeled "hash browns." The pancakes were OK, but were awkwardly placed far down the table after the syrup. The only eggs seemed to be an attempt at eggs benedict, but eggs and hollandaise without some kind of bread to put them on is just awkward! Would it have been too much trouble to put out some scrambled eggs !? Or some carbs? I ended up mostly filling up on bacon, which was well-cooked and plentiful. At least that is in their favor.
There was very little in the way of dessert selections, and what they did have was in tiny portions and dried out.
A bloody mary or mimosa is included in the $15.99 brunch price (which seemed overpriced relative to other meals I'd eaten that weekend - even though it was an all-you-can-eat buffet) - I got the bloody mary, which was not delicious. Too much spice (probably too much horseradish, rather than Tabasco), too little lemon juice and Worcestershire, and weirdly they asked me if I wanted "salt or no salt." I've never heard this except about margaritas, is this a St. Louis thing?
The impression I got was that our options for breakfast were limited, so maybe this is as good as it gets. If that's true, I'm sad for St. Louis - brunch should be the best meal of the week, and this place definitely did not deliver.Listed in: Gateway to the West

This is a fairly generous three stars because I'm not sure I would rate it quite as good as A-OK. My main complaint is just that it reeks of smoke in there. After sitting in the non-smoking section for an hour, I had to go home and immediately peel off all my clothes.
I will say the pizza is pretty good and at least the last time I was there the server was awesome. Very nice and really efficient. I would say the non-pizza food is pretty average, but I've only been there a few times so I haven't tried a huge sampling of what they offer. I'm not sure if they do take-out or not, but my advice would be to get a pizza to go.Listed in: Pizza!

Oh, 3 Monkeys. You have done the impossible: Not just satisfy two picky in-laws but have them leave the establishment with smiles on their faces. With your delicious pizzas, cheap drinks, and attentive service the only thing I can do to repay you for this accomplishment is write this review. Bravo, my friend. Bravo.
I went here on a girls night on a Wednesday. Half off bottles of wine! Cannot beat that. With all of the delicious food zooming by me all night, I couldn't wait to return for dinner.
That opportunity came with a visit from my future in-laws. Now picking a food spot for the both of them comes a challenge: nothing too expensive, nothing too cheap, nothing too funky, nothing too bizarre..the list goes on. I knew the strict guidelines I was under but I also knew I wanted to take them to a place in the city that was just a little different from their hometown establishments.
3 Monkeys came out to be the ultimate answer. I got the Jungle Love Nachos and they were UNBELIEVABLE. My mother-in-law got the chicken salad wrap, my father-in-law got the Philly cheese-steak pizza, and my fiance the bison burger. I would recommend all of our picks and surprising enough, so did everyone that picked them.
If you have a group to please with very different tastes I would strongly recommend this place. -

$5 off large fire-baked pizza 10-11:30 PM Monday-Thurday (and $1 PBR on this Tuesday) made me =-)
They do have other drink specials on Monday & $2 Schlafly Thursday.
The pizza I got was the "fire N the hole" (maybe tomorrow, butt doubt it) W/ wing sauce, pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, pulled pork and "spicy" bacon. The flavor combo was nice. The wing suace was "sweet & spicy" and the pulled pork had bbq sauce plus I added Frank's so each bite flavor was a surprising blend. (not as hot as I thought it would be)Listed in: Sun & Suds

An Unamerican Parking Lot
In my thesaurus, if you look up the word America, you will find words like jean shorts, busch light, bubba kegs, and trucks. And in my America, I expect parking lots to accommodate these things. Not so, at 3 Monkeys.
Naturally, the carpenter drives an F150, sometimes she wears a ladder rack, sometimes she goes naked, and on this day, 3 Monkeys tried to fence her in. If you, like us, find yourselves travelling to 3Monkeys in a full sized truck or suv, do not park in the row of spaces that are lined up against the (north?) wall at the entrance to the lot off Morganford. These spaces may look appealing to a hybrid, but as soon as the row of parallels gets filled up behind you, you, your clutch and truck will spend at least 5 minutes of teeth grinding consternation just trying to get freed.
Particularly frustrating are the 50 giant signs posted within 3 feet of each other throughout the whole of the 3Monkey parking lot, decreeing that damaged or stolen vehicles are not their responsibility. Well, I would be mighty p.o'ed if I came back from dinner to my Mustang for America helplessly hitched with her haunches all tore up from some yehaw who scooted out too close.
Kudos to 3Monkeys for getting all of the off street parking in place for their customers. I'm sure on busy nights, it's most appreciated. But please, just do one simple thing for us Americans out there. Order some signs for that row of spots that say, Compact Cars only, sos we know where to park it.
Besides that, our Make Your Own pizza with ronis and bacon was good. The bacon was crisp and the sauce was flavorful and aplenty. I would have liked to see Make Your Own toppings a little less expensive. With two ours came out to 17 bucks, the price of some of the specialty pizzas. One caution here too, if you are with a picky eater, or not willing to risk 17 to 20 bucks on a specialty, you'll have to pay to get Make Your Own. Although I am not opposed to ordering several of the specials, most of the sauces, cheeses, toppings, and spice levels, make it hard to find a zaa that wouldn't be too special for mixed company to eat. See the zaa menu here: http://www.3monkeysstl... -

St Louis, MO
I keep coming back to 3 Monkeys - and not because it's almost within walking distance of my house. We love coming here because the food is delicious, the service is friendly, and everyone remembers our names. I should also mention, we almost always sit at the bar.
Since the last review, I got an Originals card - http://www.stlouisorig... - and have been racking up points to use on future visits. I also discovered a few more favorites on the menu: Sweet & Spicy wings, Philly Beef pizza, and the Four Cheese pizza with pesto.Listed in: Top Restaurants, Morgan Ford Pub Crawl

Three Monkeys has gotten three strikes and they are no longer a favorite place to visit. I do not know what has happened, but they need to fix it and fix it fast. The problem is not front of the house, they still have some of the friendliest and best service in town. The problem is in the kitchen, they are not up to the quality they once were. Did they change Executive Chefs?
We had a carry-out that was a BIG disappointment, during a birthday celebration with multiple friends we had entrees sent back and then the final was a Sunday Brunch that had us walking out saying, "WTF happened here?"
Please fix the problem, I want to be a fan again.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Vik S.
Just want to gave a quick mention of the happy hour here. It's pretty damn good. 4pm-7pm Mon - Fri (screw happy hours that end at 6).
$2 domestics, $3 house wine and more. 1/2 off appetizers. The BBQ smoked turkey wings were pretty awesome and very meaty, and it was a lot of food for the price. GIve 'em a shot. Chicken wings (breaded & fried) are also good, as is the spinach dip and the hummus.
The service is efficient yet very friendly and it's always been a good time here. For a table for 4 on Friday at 6pm, we had to wait about 20 mins. No wait on a Tuesday. -
Review from Chip K.
I like the space at Three Monkeys. Very cozy. Kind of reminded me of McGurk's with all the brick and the dim lighting.
That being said, the food was a mixed bag. We ordered their nachos, which had BBQ pulled pork (among other toppings) and was pretty good, and a little spicy. But there weren't nearly enough chips to accommodate all of the toppings -- we would have needed to take a fork to the plate to finish everything off.
The pizza, on the other hand, was... meh. We got the "fire in the hole" which had spicy wing sauce, jalapenos, more pulled pork, and bacon. It came out piping hot, way too hot to dig into at first. I burnt the crap out of my mouth and hands trying to take a bite.
But I found it way too spicy for my liking. The spiciness overwhelmed the pizza, and since I already had pulled pork on the nachos, I was a little sick of pulled pork by the time I was finished (but that part isn't their fault).
I had leftovers the next day (when I was no longer sick of pulled pork) and they were a little better, still too spicy, although I should add that the crust was good.
Still, I probably won't be going back unless someone asks me to go. In that case, I'll definitely try something else. -
Review from Kim K.
Let me just say that I'm not proud of the fact that I was at 3 Monkeys today for well over two hours completely tearing apart their Sunday brunch buffet. But it is a fact and in my defense I was not alone. My best friend and I were in the mood to eat and by God we did just that.
And we did it well.
Here's the dealio...brunch was 15.99 and comes with your choice of bloody mary or mimosa. Of course I got the bloody and I must admit it was pretty tasty. It was actually a little too heavy on the vodka (can't believe I just said that) and it could have been a bit spicier for my taste but I just added hot sauce and was good to go.
They jam folks into this place and I do so wish they had more room to wait for your table but that's a small gripe in the grand scheme of things. We were told that it would be a 30 minute wait and we were seated in 15 minutes. Sweet!
They rotated food often and kept the hot stuff hot and the cold stuff cold. Very much appreciated.
Three different stations of food fun. One--Fresh fruit, chilled shrimp, mussels, desserts. Two--Pasta station, omelete/fried egg station, pizza, carved meat. Three--Potato heaven, bacon, snausages, ham, pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, spanikopita, green beans, dumplings, veggie skewers, oh hell you get the picture.
Go to 3 Monkeys. Eat and drink. Enjoy yourself. Go home and take a well deserved nap. You're gonna need it.
