Hoboken, NJ
I have been here several times for dinner. The food is very good, with my favorite dishes being the seafood risotto and the seared tuna. The views/decor are outstanding. On one occasion my meal served to me warm instead of hot because someone in our party's order had been mixed up, but it seemed like an isolated incident. The prices are high, but in line with the rest of the neighborhood.
If you are around when the weather is warm, definitely take advantage of the outdoor seating for dinner or for brunch. -
Review from John F.
Food was good, not excellent. That being said, 3 Forty Grill was overpriced. 2 drinks, one appetizer and 2 entrees for $120.00? Eh...
Like I said, the food is good and, by the way, the decor is beautiful and the views I the New York City skyline are outstanding. However, I'm not in a rush to go back. -

I recently had brunch here. I had the egg white veggie and brie omelet which came with 2 mimosas of decent alcohol content, some tasty potatoes, and a side salad. I ordered toast as well since it was not included with the omelets. The omelet was good, nicely cooked, and I requested a regular omelet (not just egg whites) which was not a problem at all. A cool thing about this place was their eco-friendly hand drying solution. Instead of blower machines or paper towels they supplied a basket of wash cloths, so you take a wash cloth, dry your hands, and then discard the wash cloth in another basket. Hardcore eco nuts may point out that the restaurant is still wasting energy by laundering the wash cloths, but I think just cutting down on the use of paper products is a good thing.
Also, it is worth mentioning the hostess was super nice, as was our waitress. You don't always receive the best service at restaurants in Hoboken, and I was really impressed with how nice and professional the staff here is. And the food was tasty. On the down side of things, there was not a lot of food. The omelet was on the small side, and the potato and salad sides were each a 2 or 3 bite affair. At $22 for the omelet and 2 mimosas I was expecting to be full. -
Review from Siv L.
Came here for dinner on a Thursday night. The ambience is very intimate, cool, dark. Great view of the Manhattan skyline.
Tried the lobster and crab bisque which was a very large serving, was creamy and had lots of lobster/crab in it. For my entree, I ordered the ribeye medium rare. I didn't care for the glaze on it but I liked the tomatoes and blue cheese that accompanied it. The sweet potato and pecan casserole was interesting but was too sweet for my liking - it didn't pair well with the meat, tomatoes and my glass of Cab.
Good option for dinner, especially for the ambiance. -

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Pretty quiet. Great decor. Great service. My only complaint was the lack of food on the menu. It was more like a prix fixe, which was fine, but sometimes I like a little variety with my brunch! I had the frittata- which was just alright. You pay more for the location/view then anything else!

I've been going to this restaurant since it opened and I have to say they NEVER dissapoint! I feel like family when I go and am always well taken care of. The atmosphere is wonderful and the treatment received from the staff is always top notch. I was in last week with some clients for dinner on Monday night and have to say the new menu was fantastic. We all shared a magnum from the raw bar and it was the freshest I've had in recent memory. I had the Filet Mingon and I have to say it rivals any steak at the so called best steak houses in NYC!! 2 of my clients had the Cider glazed sea bass and were in heaven!! Keep up the good work guys!!

Great view of the city with a nice, modern, clean decor. Food is good and drinks even better (I believer happy hour is until 7pm). Never had anything not delicious here, but be prepared, it's a tad on the expensive side.

Manhattan, NY
Originally came here for brunch but arrived too late and had to settle for the dinner menu.
The Pros: Sat outside since it was a beautiful day, great view across to NYC, Drink was pretty strong, Brunch looks like a good deal but didn't get to experience it
The Cons: Parking as other people have mentioned is a SCAM- on the weekends they charged me $20 and the parking garage said it would "come off of my bill" they took off $5 and they can only take off for one ticket per bill - I had to tell them my friend and I arrived separately and to split the bill then into 2 and luckily they did that. Had the worst bout of FOOD POISONING afterwards, felt like I was dying so that totally killed the experience :-(
I really want to still try brunch only because the special is a good but I'm really, really reluctant and will definitely think twice before I eat anything that isn't cooked until burnt at this place -

Everything was amazing... The food had a great taste and the servers where super attentive without been annoying. The price is excellent. Just so you have an idea 5 adults and 2 kids $269 with tip included. Great place for a romantic diner or just family gathering. We will def go back!

Review from Justin A.
I am reviewing 3 Forty Grill for brunch.
Brunch menu is $20 bucks with 2 mimosas or bloody mary. Not a bad value, but I wish it was bottomless mimosas for $5 more dollars or something. Two doesn't seem like that much.
Anyway, the breakfast fare is standard. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a crossaint. overall, pretty good sandwich - the eggs were not too runny which I like. The platter came with salad and some potatoes.
As far as the pancakes with berries, this also looked good. I wouldn't know how they taste, because they were gone in a hot second (certainly a good sign).
The only gripe with 3 Forty is service. The waitress was very overwhelmed. In fact, the bus boys seemed to bring drinks faster then the waitress could. She also took about 20 minutes to get us some silverware and couldn't be found when it came time to pay the bill. -

We often visit 3 forty for brunch becasue it is affordable and delicious. I have tried about 4 different menu items from Stuffed French Toast, Eggs Benedicts...etc. and have always left completely satisfied.
The "comp" parking is a joke....be warned. -

I have been to 3 Forty Grill four times, but not because I had a choice. My first experience was mediocre, and was for brunch. The food was decent, but the wait was way too long when there were so many empty tables. We sat outside and the view was beautiful (the main attraction and probably only reason why people still go here). My second and third experiences were due to birthday dinners, because people enjoy being able to have dinner there and then move over to the bar for drinks to kick off the night. However, here is when I absolutely began to hate this restaurant. First off, on one night, I was with a large party of about 15 people and we had reservations toward the end of the night. I would say 10 PM. The majority of our party arrived on time and was seated, but the servers and managers refused to serve them until the entire party arrived. However, we all knew what the others wanted to order and we wanted to order before the kitchen closed. Finally, they said we can order appetizers BUT ONLY appetizers because dinner menus were "closed." Not only were we forced to buy every single appetizer twice because of the portions being so small and our party being large, that there still wasnt enough food and we saw tables ordering dinner who got there after us! My next experience was terrible due to the managers. This place is run by a few middle aged women, whose lives revolve around this restaurant. Every time my friends or I have been here, these women are parading around as if they're running a presidential banquet. The one manager Kerryann or whatever her name, was seen scolding the servers numerous times throughout the night. It became uncomfortable to be seated where we were, because we could hear her RIDICULOUS complaints. The restaurant was busy, servers looked to be doing their best, yet she was being extremely rude. My last encounter there was for lunch, and it was horrific. The food was practically cold when served to us and it began to rain outside, but they refused to move us in. If I am paying for a meal, I expect it not to be drenched in the rain. DO NOT GO HERE. I've lived in Hoboken my entire life and this is the last place you should spend your money.

I came here today with a friend for brunch. The steak and eggs dish was delicious, but I do wish there was more steak. The restaurant is decorated quite nicely and has great views. I definitely plan to go back for dinner.

Review from Tom S.
Had my first non-brunch outing to 3Forty last week when I took some clients out to lunch. We were a party of six and couldn't get a reservation at 12:30pm on a Thursday. So, we made a reservation for noon. I still don't know why we couldn't make one for 12:30pm, as the restaurant never even came close to filling to capacity.
Even further, we were the first party inside the restaurant and were sat, in a completely empty dining room, directly next to the hostess stand. The loud, ringing reservation phone added for some ambiance.
Reservations and seating aside, we all ordered off the Hudson Restaurant Week menu. I thought that the grilled asparagus and warm goat cheese bruschetta was too heavy on the goat cheese, too light on everything else, considering the potential flavor of the other ingredients included (roasted red peppers, shiitake mushrooms, etc.).
I thought that the crispy southwestern chicken wrap was actually quite good, albeit a little basic. More substance than style, but sometimes that's what you need at lunch. The potato salad was strange. It looked fine, but I couldn't put my finger on the taste. Watermelon Jolly Ranchers? I know that sounds weird, but that's all I could think of.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went there for dinner couple of years ago and it was very good and tasty.
Another night I went there for drinks when it became a club and it was OK, totally different crowd!
I also went there for brunch recently, My omelet was nothing special, a friend got the burger and the fries were yummy. -

Went for dinner on Friday night with a party of 8. I do not recommend going with that many people. You also need to order your drinks ahead of time, as they take a while to get them made. I would imagine that if you are there for a dinner later in the evening, when the bar is packed, you can forget about getting a drink with your meal. It was uncomfortably hot in there, which takes away from the dinner.
It feels like a very trendy restaurant, with the dim lighting and the background music. I had the hanger steak with the mashed sweet potatoes. It was fantastic. The steak was very juicy and tender, and the potatoes were incredible. I was hoping to find some more of them under anything on the plate.
Food prices were decent, nothing crazy, but drinks are expensive. They were not too strong either. I would go back, maybe on a week night. And maybe in the winter, when its a bit cooler. -

I've been the 3Forty many, many times over the years - in the beginning for the bar, and more recently for the food. I was a regular there on Thursday nights for a long time to take advantage of the 1/2 price martini night. Their martini list is HUGE and my personal favorite has always been the caramel appletini with their homemade caramel. Thursday nights are generally very chill and a great place to relax and grab a drink with a nice ambience, as my best friend and I used to do. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is very different - crowded and your typical meathead Jersey crowd.
I've also eaten there several times over the years. The food has always been consistently excellent. Most recently, I went for brunch with a few girlfriends and for dinner with my family. My last visit was with my family on a Sunday, and although the food was great as usual, the service was incredibly slow. Regardless, I would definitely recommend checking it out. Everything I've gotten over the years, from burgers to apps to entrees to desserts, has always been wonderful. And you can't beat the view! -

Went with 7 others for brunch. Everyone got something different and we all agreed that the food was great. Everything was cooked well and the presentation was nice. The combo of prosciutto & truffle hollandaise on the eggs benedict was fabulous.
Service was so-so; the back-waiters seemed to be much more attentive than the server. At one point there was not a single member of staff on the floor for a few minutes which made it difficult to order more drinks.
Brunch prices seemed fair, menu item plus 2 drinks for around $20.
Food was quality, will definitely head back for dinner some time. -

I came here with my girl for a little appetizer and drinks before heading to one of our favorite pizza places. The 3 Forty Grill has a great location, it has a nice view of New York City. The atmosphere was Great. Wide variety of wine and drink selections. Staff are cute and super friendly. They don't skimp on the alcohol which I Love. Try their Raspberry Mojito.
Had Appetizers with the girl and had a seafood combo of clam strips, sea bass, and calamari. All three were breaded. Delicious. Comes with marinara sauce and thai chili sauce. Would come back here again. -

Came here with the fam for my dad's birthday and participated in the Restaurant Week menu. All of the food was delicious (we all tried different menu items and everyone loved their dishes). Cocktails at the bar were also great.
Unfortunately the service stunk and we basically had no waitress after placing our order. In addition, I would probably not return on a normal dinner night due to the high prices. The Restaurant Week menu was very varied and a good deal, but to pay full price for it....probably not. -

Hoboken, NJ
Decent food, great specialty drinks, and a very nice view.
3 Forty Grill sits on the west bank of the Hudson river in Hoboken, providing an excellent view of the NYC skyline (which around the holidays is nicely lit up). The interior decor is pretty reserved with more modern leanings, but nothing that would make you sit up and take notice. My wife and I walked in for dinner on a Sunday night and found the restaurant to be about 25% full. However, in the summer, particularly for weekend brunch, I have seen the restaurant all the way full.
Service was prompt and professional. We started off with drinks, and as 3 Forty Grill highlights their selection of martinis, we decided to give them a try. My wife had the "French Toast Martini" which was truly outstanding. It tastes just like a nice french toast in a glass. All the flavors are there without it being too sweet, and we would both recommend it.
We started with the Bourbon-Glazed Beef Tenderloin Tips. At this point, there was apparently a mix up in the kitchen as it took a good 15-20 minutes after we ordered for them to bring it out to us. The staff was very apologetic, and quite frankly, given the other service, I would write this off as a fluke. The beef was well seasoned, although a bit more medium than medium-rare, and served with the house BBQ sauce and nice onion jam.
I had one of the night's specials: a herb braised short rib over a Gorgonzola risotto with winter vegetables. It was very good. Fork tender without dissolving in your mouth, and the sauce was nicely seasoned. The risotto was very good, with plenty of hearty cheese flavor that complimented the meat well. The vegetables were forgettable, but I don't feel they detracted from the rest of the dish.
My wife had the sesame seared ahi tuna with wasabi dumplings over lo-mein noodles with a ginger-wasabi-soy glaze. Again, a very nice dish, although I would say I have had similar dishes done better elsewhere. But the fish was fresh, and the sauce was balanced and added to the overall experience of the dish.
For dessert. we shared the molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. I'd give it a 3/5. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly exciting, and lacked the eyes-rolling-back-in-your-head decadence that I'd like to see from such a dish.
Overall, I liked 3 Forty Grill, and would go back, but I might look for deals like their 1/2 price martinis on Thursdays, because it is a bit on the expensive side. Not obnoxiously so, but you can probably stretch your dollar a bit more somewhere else. Good location, good service, and good food, 3 Forty Grill is a good call for a more upscale dinner in Hoboken. -

Only ever gone during Thursday night drink specials for half priced Martini's, Margarita's, and Mojito's from 5-7; half priced Martini's all night.
While the food is ok, it's certainly not worth the prices that they charge for it. I suggest going for the drink specials, but eat elsewhere.
Pros: Drink Specials
Generally pretty quiet
Cons: Food Overpriced -

New York, NY
I wish the portions were larger...Although, it's pretty good because it prevents me from eating too much. They're giant plates, probably the right size of food. I'm just used to Cheese Factory sized portions.
Wow. This place is weird. Great location, great view of NYC.
We went for brunch. The home fries were surprisingly good.
The place was well ventilated, the bathrooms were big but no paper towels. Instead, there's a giant stack of towels. It was sorta creepy, these towels, like in a home bathroom.
It felt like The Stepford Wives in there....Tons and tons of blonde, blue eyed women of all ages, and then you have your typical Hoboken crowd. Nice view of the city, though, and right along the water. -

New York, NY
I have been here several times for brunch. The food, taste-wise, is delightful and fulfilling and the presentation only feeds into your hunger.
My favorite drink off their brunch menu is the Mango Mojito, perfectly compliments my usual order, Brioche bread stuffed with mascarpone & strawberry French Toast.
Atmosphere: It's nice and cozy, slightly intimate because of the beautiful view of the skyline (that's if you get lucky with the table by the window facing East.
Attire: wear your nice Sunday outfit. Now, this is where the minus one star comes into place. Unfortunately, most customers (along with some of the staff), are slightly snotty and you almost get that frowned upon look for showing up wearing ripped shorts and regular t-shirt with your hair undone.
Keep in mind I have only been here for brunch, which may reflect differently for the other times of the day. The evening staff on Saturday or weekday staff might not be as snotty as the Sunday brunch staff.
Good for kids? Eh. If your child can sit still for the duration of your meal, then yes otherwise I'd say no.
Having said that, everything else is delightful... -

I've eaten here many times and it's always pretty good, but I go a lot because I live in the same building. I've had the beet salad and a couple of the others salads, which were very good. Their appetizers are always pretty good too. I've had the steak and it was something I would order again as well. The wait staff is pretty attentive and the place is always clean and the hostesses are helpful. Overall, pretty good place with good atmosphere. However, the place is becoming outrageously expensive in my opinion. I don't believe the restaurant is worth what they charge, so I'll be going elsewhere more often and here less often.

I enjoyed my time here, Couldnt ask for a better scenario. I met up with a female friend from Jersey. I being from Brooklyn, She being from North New Jersey, Hoboken was a nice neutral spot to meet up. I never new how Beautiful Hoboken was, the view of Manhattan is Bananas! I tried making reservations for dinner but was unsuccessful. My friend and I met up on a Friday night around 8ish. The place wasn't packed but the tables for dinner were all accounted for. I was told we could wait in the lounge area in case a table opens up. What a blessing in disguise! With the Knick game on, some drinks and appetizers my companion and I nestled on the couch as if I were in my own living room. The ambiance was just right. Dim lights, low music and of course the NBA game lol. Drinks were just right too, Mango mojitos, margaritas, and martini's yes!!! Didnt want to go to heavy on the liquor i had to drive back to Brooklyn. I was soo comfortable here and the food was not bad. The portions are small, didn't really fill me up here. The lobster mac & cheese were creamy and plenty of lobster meat. I prefer the mac & cheese a little crispier. My other entree was a little cold but still flavorful. I think it was the short rib tips or something? I just know it was cuts of steak that could've of been hotter. Staff were friendly, our waiter took care of us. Will definitely be coming back here, i had a great time!

Solid, but not impressive. We had a reservation for a baby shower for Saturday brunch. Our table was ready, service was fine, and the food was tasty, but not plentiful. We didn't feel rushed at all.
For the price, good omelet, and not having to wait- 4 stars. -

We went here for my birthday dinner. We had reservations for 9pm and got there around 7:45 and walked to Carlo's Bakery only a couple of blocks from 3 Forty Grill. Then enjoyed the beautiful view of the city across the Hudson River. There's a park that is supposed to be open soon that's across the street from 3 Forty Grill which looks beautiful.
We had oysters on the half shell and they were really good, kind of small but still really good. I had two martini's the first one was Flirtini which was really good and not too sweet. The second one wasn't as good I think it was called Peachy...I should have known it was going to be too sweet by the name.
I ordered crab cakes with sweet potato fries and I really liked it. Its funny because before we even knew where we were going I said I wanted crab cakes and when I got there I was a little leery about what it came with but I'm glad I just went with it because it was delicious!
Then for dessert we had the brownie with ice cream and a candle for me!
The atmosphere in this place is really cool, it's got more of a club vibe and is pretty loud, so if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner this isn't where you should go.
They validate parking so make sure you take advantage of that, we didn't park in their parking lot and had to pay $30 because it was a Friday night! I couldn't believe it! Don't make the same mistake we did!! -
Review from Greg W.
I've always heard the food was good here but had only gone to the bar a few times.
Service and setup in there is like Miami (and I mean that in a bad way - I lived there for 3 years, much different than visiting for a week)
But the food was quite good. A lot of seafood based items with some steaks.
A good spot for birthdays with the bar right there. Prices were steep for the quality of the food, but not crazy.
Overall A-Ok. I would go back with a group if they wanted to go, but I wouldn't be the one suggesting it. -

I think 3 Forty Grill believes it can skate by with mediocre food and service given it's waterfront location. So not the case when it comes to this Yelper.
Eating out on the patio was a plus. Skinny glasses: minus. Seriously, you're just making more work for yourself. It's 80 degrees out and sunny - we're going to be thirsty. I ordered a grilled veggie pita - which sounded and looked yummy. Eating it was a whole other story. The sandwich was so unwieldy that everytime I took a bite, contents would go spilling out in every direction. The flavors worked well together, but it was so frustrating that I left one half of my sandwich untouched. Adding insult to injury was the fact that the sandwich was priced at $13. You kidding me?
Service was okay. I think our waitress was overwhelmed with tables so she didn't have a lot of time to devote to us. Not necessarily her fault, seems like management might need to staff a little better.
I will say that their martini list was pretty extensive, so I think it'd be worth swinging back here solely for drinks one evening and going for the lounge experience versus a dining one. -
Review from George B.
After a wild night I somehow stumbled here for brunch on a Saturday morning. Thank god the brunch came with two bloody marys (if you did the pre-fixe that is). I was with a group of almost 20 people and everyone enjoyed the experience.
I had a 3 Forty Omelette, which has bacon, spinach, mushrooms, cheddar, and tomatoes. It was very good and only cost $20 paired with 2 drinks. That's not an amazing price, but I'll take it.
There are a LOT of brunch options in Hoboken, but you can't go wrong with this one. -
Review from Crissy H.
I was so excited to come here for my pre-birthday celebration. From looking at their website and the yelp reviews - I thought I picked out a good place. However, as soon as I stepped into the restaurant I knew I was mislead.
First of all I was told to make reservations because the place fills up quickly - aka - it's hard to get a table here on a Saturday night. Wrong. There were probably about 50 people (including staff) here. I am not sure if it was a slow night or if it is always like that.
They sat us down right away. Of course we got seated at a 2 top that was extremely small. So small that it was hard to keep the bread plates and dinner plates on the table at the same time. Now, you would think that if the place was semi-empty we would get seated at a larger table - but I guess they didn't care if we were cramped or not. Also, the dinning hall had a cold feel to it (temperature and atmosphere) and it was soooo noisy.
As far as the food is concerned it was so-so, which should not be the case when you are spending 30+ a plate.
For an appetizer we had the chicken spring rolls. They were decent. Nothing really spectacular about them.
For dinner we shared the scrimp, scallop and lobster risotto and the filet minion with crispy fries. The risotto was packed will more corn and asparagus than risotto and there were only 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, and 2 pieces of lobster. Also, the dish was kind of dry and very small. Very disappointing.
As far as the steak - it was okay. Nothing that exploded my taste buds. The fries were crispy but not thin as I thought - they were more like crispy steak fries. Plus they had a ton of greased up onion straws all over everything. Kind of tasted like something I could have gotten at Outback. Again - disappointing.
The staff was also so-so. The waitress who was probably about 18 talked to me like I was a little kid. Very patronizing and annoying. Oh and they state that they validate your parking - but don't be fooled. They only pay up to $10 - so when it costs you $25 to park - like it did for us - you get less than half of your money back.
Overall no - good. Can we have a do-over? -

There's got to be better in the area.
Frito Misto appetizer had an off taste from the oil. If there were clams in the dish (as the menu stated) I didn't find them.
Hanger steak was properly done, of average quality. Broccoli cheese accompaniment might have been from a recipe from a Campbels soup can. Risotto cake was forgettable.
Wine list was compact, but priced right for the food.
Our table was "balanced" by the addition of a kitchen towel jammed under one side of the stand. It was a nice summary of the overall experience. -

Went for Hudson restaurant week. The set menu had great options. Food was delicious. They martinis hit the spot as well. If you have the money to spend I would definitely give this place a shot.
Great atmosphere for romantic dinner date and afterword we headed to the bar area where we were able to dance and enjoy our martinis while sitting on a couch. Great music!
Have been for 1/2 price martini nights which are def worth the price however the place always seems dead. -

The view from outside is worth it. Anyone who lays the hate on New Jersey does so with ignorance about the view of the New York skyline from this restaurant. Five star view.
Three star food. It is ok. The $20 prix fixe brunch includes either two bloody marys or two mimosas. That is totally worth it; get the mimosas though because I was not too impressed with the bloody marys. (My friend got my second one). My eggs benedict were pretty good; I even liked my hollendaise sauce. I hated my potatoes. Too heavy on the onions. My friend's left-over fries were a decent compromise.
Five star service. Our waitress was most friendly and attentive with even my bizarre requests.
Five star bathrooms. They were very clean. (After some of the bathrooms that I have come across while on vacation, I decided to mention bathrooms in my reviews).
Therefore, without actually doing math and bothering to accurately average my numbers (like Yelp lets you assign fractions of a star anyway), I will give it four stars.Listed in: Taking a bite out of the Big…

I always walk by this place and see that it is super packed, so out of curiosity, I came here one night for a late dinner. The lounge/club within the restaurant was just starting to get going and we were seated promptly by the door as we did not make reservations. The food was decently enough to satisfy hunger but that was about it. The cheaper sandwiches ended up tasting better than the entree, apparently the chicken was very blend.
I feel like their bathrooms need more stalls. For a restaurant that size, they need at least 5 working stalls. The night I was there only had 2 working ones which caused the inevitable long queue.
Also to note, if you don't like eating your food accompanied by semi-loud clubbing music, I highly recommend that you sit outside.
