I am overcritical when it comes to pizza, and I don't recall much about the pizza, but hey, the cheese steaks are great, really great. The people that work there are super nice. It's also very clean.
by FAR the best cheesesteak in Northen Liberties.
5 stars for the cheesesteaks, but I can only give 4 cause I have not tried much else. The fries are yummy, I've gotten them a few times and they are the crispy double fried kind that I like. The onion rings are good too.
Don't go here UNLESS you have no other options.
I stopped in last night with the drunk munchies. This place happened to be open, and it happened to be on my way home. And then I wasted $6 on the worst italian hoagie I've ever had.
How can you fuck up a sandwich, you ask in disbelief. Well, you can... and they do. The bread was like the kind you find on a 7-11 sandwich, and it seemed suspiciously like they used pre-sliced, packaged cold cuts.
2nd street is a mystery for sure. Some people really love it! Real people that I've met! They exist! These are probably the same people that think Dick Cheney would be a fun guy to hangout with. Their opinions are as crappy as this pizza. If you think good pizza is a big goober of dough covered in runny sweet sauce and expired cheese you might be one of these crazies that likes 2nd street.
As for me, this pizza is only good for soaking up the excess beer and alcohol in your stomach before going to bed. It is the pizza of last resort.... I mean, it is still "pizza" I guess...maybe?
The pizza here is awful. But the hoagies and wings are good. DO NOT GET THE PIZZA. Service is still fast.

The service was good here and the food was ok. Nothing to write home about but being decent and… Read more »
Well I was delivering beer to one of our NoLibs regulars and thought to myself, "While I'm here I might as well grab a beer and some lunch at Standard Tap." Unfortunately it was 3:30 and I couldn't wait around a half hour for the Tap to open. So I figured I passed this place enough times, I might as well TRY it, right? Wrong.
I walked in and ordered a plain slice. When the cashier asked for $2.35 I was so shocked I blurted out, "How big are these things?!" The cashier, who didn't seem the least bit amused, assured me they're the biggest slices I'll see in my life. Wrong again.
I waited for them to heat up my slice and looking around I began to think I should have gone elsewhere. And when they served it up I couldn't have been more correct (unless I was at Lorenzo's, but in that case I would probably be too drunk to remember/care). Pretty typical Philly pizza thing going on. Thick, undercooked dough with a hint of corrugated cardboard. Too sweet, too tangy sauce that came out of a can. Cheap mozzarella. Ugh.
Moral of the story? If you're in this area looking for pizza, and not something that's going through the motions and just resembles pizza, go to Rustica.
This is the worst pizza I've ever had. Seriously, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The dough is way too thick and they put way too much cheese on. "Well I like my pizza thick and I like lots of cheese!!!" --you may say - but seriously, you will not like this. They also use very little sauce on the pizza - which is another negative. The only other thing I've ordered from there was a meatball parm sub twice - and both times there was so little sauce on it that i had to heat up my own sauce and put it on. Totally unacceptable.
This pizza was not very good. It reminded me of greasy pizza hut pizza.
The service was alright in that they didn't delay anything or give me a hard time.
I guess I'd just pay a buck or two more and just go to Rustica across the street.
The pizza was great! The large pizzas are HUGE. Staff was pretty friendly. Delivery was kind of slow, but it was superbowl Sunday. Kind of pricey.
By FAR the worst pizza I have ever eaten. I stopped in here once as I was running errands on 2nd street and preparing for a 3 hour drive to north jersey. I figured I'd grab a couple slices to eat o the road and keep me company.
The closest comparison I could give would be those little bagel pizza bites. So if you're down with those, go for it. Personally, I like a light crispy crust and ingredients that I can taste - two things this pizza joint knows nothing about.
2nd Street Pizza is probably THE BEST pizza shop I have encountered in Philadelphia. Their pizza slices are enormous and absolutely delicious. The selection at 2nd Street is vast, and while famous cheesesteak havens like Geno's offer a c-steak for $7, you can get a c-steak and soda at 2nd Street for half that price.
The service is always great here, no matter what time of the day or night. The owner is very friendly, and the food is always deliciously satisfying (and doesn't hurt your wallet).
funny that *anyone* would call 2nd st. pizza the best they've ever had, with Rustica right down the street. 2nd st. pizza is fine, whatever, but it isn't anything gourmet. it doesn't come close to rustica, and wouldn't beat out Germantown pizza (a few blocks north) either. plus it doesn't have the *feel* of a great pizza place, as both Rustica and Germantown do.
So, yeah. it's fine, but nothing special. the slices can be HUGE - monsterous, really - but they don't have flavor to match.
I haven't eaten at the other pizza places in Northern Liberties but comapred to some of the jawns near my place in University City--this pizza is alright. The price is cheap considering the size of the slices (which are seriously huge) and the service is fine. Yeah, the taste wasn't anything special, but it was acceptable. My biggest complaint is the dough which is too thick for my tastes and a little on the soft side. The decor of the place is kinda cool and the booth seats are comfy.
Best pizza ive ever had, tons of other great food, great prices, great service.
Ummmm....I don't know about the first review, but 2nd Street Pizza was average-to-cardboard at best. Almost no cheese or sauce, this carbo-loaded dinner is a cheap option, in price and in quality.
