Wonderful place - full of different cuisines, and fresh local produce, breads, pastries, cheeses etc.
I especially like Cheeky Meat Pies which offers absolutely delicious food. -
Review from Angela L.
This is the BEST place to go for fresh fruit, veggies as well as a few desserts and breads.
Great place to go on a Saturday morning and take a walk around. Ther is a great place to grab, coffe and a crepe. I have brought a few out of town guests here and I think they are always suprised to see something like this in Dayton.
Don't forget to stop by and see Ann @ Desserts by Ann K! She is a great lady to have a chat with and you will love her desserts. She makes a vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting and caramel sauce -- topped of with crispy something or other's that is amazing. She had me craving them when I was pregnant! -

We had family visiting last weekend and decided to hit the 2nd Street Market. We enjoyed shopping the many stalls, especially the Wegerzyn Garden shop. Best day here is Saturday, as all the vendors are available...many do not come on Thurs/Fri. Lots of food choices and samples are available. If you are in Dayton on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, do yourself a favor and hit the market.

This market has everything that you could want and more!!! Have done the weekly shopping here a few times and it is definately cheaper than the grocery store and quality is much better!!! Veggie selection is prime and most venders mark what the local stuff is...Thei spices place is awesome and all of the little eateries there have food that is jus divine....make sure you take your cash with you!!
Also the flowers that are sold there are very inexpensive and high quality!!! I will be spending almost every saturday morning there!!! -

This is so much fun on a Saturday morning. You can find homemade dog biscuits, fresh grown vegetables, spices, free range chicken, arts and crafts, even a clown to make balloons for the kids.
Hungry - what do you feel like? Chances are they have it. I had The.Most.Wonderful.Crepe.Ever. Really. Prosciuhutto, brie, and blue cheese with a pepper relish. OMG. There was even a nutella and berry crepe for the baby. Messy but she loved it!
And finally - flowers. Beautiful and cheap flowers. The later in the day it gets the cheaper the flowers. I love flowers and I love the 2nd Street market. -

Wow! How have I lived in Dayton for as long as I have and not have known about this place?!?!?!
After a crappy weekend of a cancelled flight to Philly and lousy weather, my friend convinced me to stop whining and took me here.
I was so impressed! While it is tiny (yes, it has nothing on a bigger city's market), it was just like a miniture version of all of my favorite city's markets! There was a live band, freshly baked bread, fresh vegetables and fruit, ethnic foods, and many little shops. I almost forgot about US Airways cancelling my flight for a split sec!
I think if you live in Dayton and have not checked this out (I'm sure all of yall have...I'm probably the last to know about it), you SHOULD! Totally worth an hour of your time! -

I'm going to draw a correlation between food and music, if you don't mind, just stick with me. Like music, food was presented locally by talented creators who made some part of their living by passing on their product. Nowadays you are presented with something in the form of music, just like you're presented with a form of food. The representation of the musical artist is there, but behind the scenes are the agent, lawyer, record company, sound engineer, mixing editor, and dozens of signed contracts. The food we eat can be viewed in the same way; there are scientists, marketers, producers, manufactory, truck drivers, and packaging, all to bring you a meal under florescent lights while listening to adult contemporary music in the background of your local grocery. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and take in food and music for the masses. But, if you've never been to Second Street Market, you're missing a gem in the Gem City. Just like musicians at a local show, there's nothing between you and what's being on stage. "How did I not know about this?" "This is great!" "I didn't know Dayton had something like this." Consider yourself informed, check it out!

The Market is a great place to shop and dine on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Weekdays are less crowded, but there are a few more vendors on Saturday and lots of samples. You'll always feel welcome, newbie or regular, but once you're a regular, the vendors will know your name, or at least your favorites, and help you with ease.
The retail selections vary greatly, but my favorites are the foods. You can get all the necessities from the Spice Rack, fresh baked bread from Rahn's, European cookies from Azra's, organic tea from Caffeine, homemade mixes from All Mixed Up, locally raised meats, handcrafted cheese, fresh produce, and so much more.
While you're there, be sure to eat! For breakfast on Saturday, Baan Thai Noi has an awesome Thai omelet and Annie's breakfast sandwiches are simply perfect. Azra makes this delicious gyro with feta for lunch that I love. Black Rooster's pasta is made to order and always satisfies that carb craving. -

When my friends or people who are not form the Dayton Ohio area say that Dayton is a dying city, I always point out that we have an amazing farmer's style local market that is open on the weekend. Its sponsored by the city which is pretty neat and the land is owned and operated by 5 rivers metro parks. Pretty cool in my book.
This is a great place for a bite to eat if you are looking for something unique while out shopping. Saturday mornings it is worth getting there early, parking is free but if you arrive after around 10 good luck finding a place to eat, let alone park.
If you are a fan of organic, locally grown produce and meat then this is the place for you, with tons of different vendors that change from time to time.
You never know what you might run in to when you head here, so its worth a trip, they always have cheap flowers on sale so pick some up for your lady friend, she'll be happy
Some places take cash, other's credit so try to have some cash on hand to save time. -

Ever since I first went to St. Lawrence market in Toronto, I've had a soft spot for open markets (it's so much more fun to shop in a local market than a grocery store) and 2nd Street market is a great one.
I was pleasantly surprised by the great variety of vendors, from bulk foods to produce and flowers to wine.
To give you an idea of the range of products available, I originally intended to just check out the produce but ended up leaving with 10 lbs. of whole wheat flour, a carton of pad thai, locally produced honey, tomatoes, cardamom, homemade fudge, a necklace shaped like the state of Ohio, cheesecloth, and a whole rabbit. Doesn't get much better than that.
Buy local! -

What a truly great thing to have in Dayton. I just can't believe I never knew this place was here. First I knew that a majority of the vendors only take cash, but I forgot to go to an ATM before I got there. The ATM machine was out of money when we got there, so we decided to walk around first to see what there was to offer. The ATM got refilled with cash in about 15 minutes, so that was a good thing.
It was a little packed but nothing too terribly inconvenient. It was raining though, so I imagine there would be more people there on a nice day. I tried the chicken pad Thai from the little Thai restaurant and it was absolutely delicious, some of the best pad Thai I have ever had. For going in March they had a lot more vendors present than what I expected. I'm excited to go back when it starts to get nicer out. -

Located at 2nd and Webster in an old railroad dock, where trains still roll by on the elevated track. I personally come here for local veggies and meats offered at competitive pricing. There are also artisan breads and other baked goods. A variety of food choices from the restaurants including fresh-brewed organic coffee. Desserts by Anne has the most delicious cake I've ever tasted. KJB Farms sells antibiotic/hormone -free pork that tastes great. The annual Ohio Wine Festival is a must-go-to. Plenty of free parking. Bar & grill in adjacent building.
Bottom line:
Support local farmers and artists. Get great deals on groceries. Sample a variety of food. Buy art, coffee, food, wine, clothing, pottery, flowers, etc. Bring cash and a bag. -

The 2nd Street Market is one of the most underrated places in Dayton. It's an old train depot that has been turned into the market. Apparently you can still find writing on the walls from soldiers as they went off to war.
I went for the first time on a Thursday. We talked w/ Stephen at the coffee shop Caffeine. He's got some great organic, free trade coffee and he let us sample the different brews.
We got bread and giant soft pretzels at Rahn's breads, and a gyro at Azra's. It was hard to pick what to eat, so we'll be going back for more.
In the summer the entire street our front is shut down and is turned into a farmer's market. Saturdays are the most active time, with up to 30 additional vendors setting up shop.
Unfortunately not every vendor accepts credit card, so bring cash. There is a National City ATM onsite. -

I went to the 2nd Street market last friday for the first time in several years. I'm so,so glad that I did. I managed to get almost all of my christmas shopping done in the span of an hour or so. It felt great to support local businesses while getting everyone unique gifts. One particular highlight was a wonderful (and very fairly priced) store selling Peruvian arts and crafts. Also,if you have a baby or small child definately check out Bright Beginnings. It's a tad on the pricey side, but they have beautiful organic cotton clothing and toys for infants to toddlers and they accept credit cards! There's lots of food too including a crepe place which I plan on trying next time. Lots of vendors take credit cards, but some don't so make sure to ask or just stop by the atm located near the enterance. The market was really crowded when we were there so I suggest planning accordingly and taking a large shopping bag too. I made the mistake of not bringing mine and ended up with a million tiny little bags in my hands as I shopped around. I'm really looking forward to returning soon!

We spent a rainy Saturday here and it was still a great experience. Our initial visit was combined with the Market's Ohio wine tasting event and both were much better than expected. The Market itself is wonderful with lots of local merchants ranging from booths specializing in Ohio grown and made produce and foods like Maple Syrup to tomatoes to booths that are a little more crafty in nature. There are also some tasty places to grab a bite to eat. I had a savory crepe with prosciutto, brie and blue cheese and husband had a good gyro. We shared a beef empanada that was a little more sweet than we enjoy, but a good portion size.
Despite it being a rainy day, we were pleased to find that many of the Ohio wineries still showed up for the wine event despite their outdoor set up (the market itself is indoors so the weather is not a good enough reason to skip this place over) and with umbrellas in tow we were still able to try a variety of great wines. It is amazing to see how far Ohio wineries have come in within just the past few years. I have been told that this is an annual event, so be sure to check it out some time.
As for the market, well we are going to be back this Saturday! -

So what do you do when you find yourself in the sketchy part of Dayton, Ohio? Go to the 2nd Street Market! This model of urban gentrification is a dying mid-level American city's desperate attempt to draw upper-middle class suburban dollars back into the downtown. And, boy, did it work! This place is great! If you're a hip, young, urban/suburban professional, you'll feel right at home with the artisan breads, fresh flowers, and authentic French crepes.
Unfortunately, the only downside to this market is that it really only attracts a small, select clientèle - monochromatic and slightly pretentious. -

2nd Street Market is a great place to take visitors on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. It's cash only, but you can go to an ATM on site. I strongly suggest the Dharma Deli for delicious food. There is a wine shop, a coffee shop, stalls selling cuisine from all over the world. There are usually multiple farm stands where you can buy produce (check it - it can be conventional, organic or hydroponic). There are also local businesses selling their wares in there. I hope you go there and enjoy!

Lots of choices. Today i went to Baan Thai Noi and had the Red Chicken Curry w/chicken satay, mini eggrolls and fried rice. It was delicious, tender, inexpensive and filling. I've also been known to get the cabbage rolls and mashed potatoes at Azra's. Get there early as possible because stuff runs out. Oh, and for dessert, make sure you find the pie lady!

My favorite place for lunch on Thursday and Friday. The Raw Passion Bistro, Annies, Crepes Boheme and Azras Mediterranean as well as many other are great. If you want Artisan breads Rahn's is the best although the selection is much better on Saturday. All mixed up has some great homemade gourmet mixes (cowboy beans is the BEST). If you need spices, stop in and see Homer at the Spice Rack. Great selection and good prices. There are flowers, wines, jewelery, hand made soaps and more. Stop by if your in the area or make a special trip it's well worth the effort.

The 2nd Street Market is a very cool place to check out if you find yourself in downtown Dayton, all local vendors, freshness, and unique items abound! Situated inside an old train station, evident by the ceiling and wall structures, the 2nd Street Market has something for just about everyone. It's kind of like an upscale foodie flea market / farmers market of sorts, you won't find any NASCAR collectibles or velvet posters being sold out of the back of some guys van here! Instead you'll find fresh locally made cheeses and bread, honey, locally grown organic veggies, and a slew of very unique eateries along the way. Lots of samples can be had in order to earn your business. There are craft shops with hand carved items, wellness items, etc. You won't be disappointed! The only negative that I can think of would be the very limited hours of operation and it is slightly crowded with pretty narrow walkways, I still say it's a 5 star location though! Dayton is lucky to have a place like the 2nd Street Market!

This place is great. Anytime I'm downtown on the weekend I stop by here to people watch and check out unique vendors. My daughter loves the crepes and I'm always looking for grass fed beef and chicken. My wife loves to get fresh cut flowers. Anyways, it's fun and I may even move downtown just to be close to it.

I LOVE 2nd street market! I recently discovered it and was super impressed. They have a place to eat that is all vegetarian, which is so rare in Dayton. They also have a vendor that sells "green" items and I purchased the cutest set of bamboo silverware. I will definitely be gonig back!

This is a great place if you are in Dayton on the weekends. It is a farmers market with a pretty small group of vendors but they have a lot of food selections. Not a breakfast place but good for a Saturday brunch (closed Sunday). They have everthing from great stuffed cabbages, slow vegan foods, and Puerto Rican food. Worth a trip if you are in Dayton.

The Deli at the Webster Street Market is a great location for lunch downtown, or for a quick snack. The sandwiches are top-notch, the portions are pretty large, and the staff is very friendly. It's kind of at a strange end of downtown, and it's too bad that they're not open just a tad longer during the week. The do make a great fish sandwich, and their corned beef and pastrami are worth it. They also have a neat selection of food and groceries for sale. The Deli is the best part of the Webster St. Market (and the only part of it that is open during the week). Enjoy!

This is a great place for a weekend brunch that I highly recommend to anyone in the Dayton area. Lots of great local food vendors to sample from and this place is particularly busy Sat mornings. I would recommend people going there early, around 9 am on Saturdays, because by 10 am it really gets packed and by this time it is a bit of a challenge to find parking and especially a table. My main frustration with the 2nd Street Market is that it usually takes me 10-15 minutes at least to hunt down a table the times I have been there. But everything else is a big thumbs up! For those who like to shop organic, there are vendors who are selling organic meat and produce there at very affordable prices. As far as food vendors, there is a good variety there for everyone. The Baan Thai Noi restaurant sells a delicious Thai omelet. The crepes are always a huge hit there and be prepared to wait in line for those. I've also seen alot of people with monster salads and creme puffs from the vendors there (not sure which ones). Sadly there used to be a Latin American vendor there that made great empanadas, but i've heard they've moved to a new location. The fresh flowers sold there are dirt cheap and will probably be going there the next time I will be buying flowers for my special someone.

The National City 2nd Street Market which is run by Five Rivers MetroParks is an enjoyable place to eat / shop particularly on Saturday mornings. If you have not made a trip down to visit this facility I highly recommend it. In addition to the regular vendors there are many special events held at this facility.

One of the first places we visited in Dayton. I agree with an earlier review - it's an attempt to breathe a bit of life into a sleepy downtown, and it works. It's a great little hangout with cool stuff for sale: Amish cheese and butter, grass-fed beef, chicken, veal, and pork, vegetables, flowers, and all manner of hard goods. Then there are the great little eats kiosks: Thai, vegetarian, crepes (highly recommended), coffee (also highly recommended), Greek, Hungarian, a chef's case, and more. It makes me want to find out more about the MetroParks programs. Try it out.
