2 reviews for 2nd Story
So here's the deal: I'm affiliated with 2nd Story. I interned there for a while and now I'm a storyteller, so yeah, I've got a bias and think 2nd Story is the most awesome thing on the planet, but I'll say this: a year ago I wasn't affiliated and I was still like, "This is the most awesome thing ever! Ever! I am squirming in my pants!"
The down-low: we do performance storytelling. What that means is someone sits on a stool, we shine a spotlight on them, the audience goes all hush-hush, and then said person on the stool tells a really awesome story in a really engaging way, kind of like that one friend you have who's always getting into crazy shenanigans and then telling you about them over your preferred alcoholic beverage. 2nd Story is full of people who are always getting into shenanigans, and we'll have you saying, "No way!" and "No she did NOT!" in two seconds flat. This is not a stodgy literary series. This is rock-n-roll.
We have three to four storytellers go up per night depending on the venue and whatnot, and there's a 10-15 minute break between stories for you to order drinks or take a smoke break or, even better, to tell your own story to your date. Or your mom. And your story? That's the SECOND story, folks. Get it?
We've got monthly performances at both Webster's Wine Bar and Red Kiva (and other venues, too--check http://www.storiesandw... for the performance schedule), and we've also got an amazing festival that we put on in the spring, which includes nights upon nights of fascinating, heartbreaking, hilarious stories paired with delicious, palate-pleasing wines.
2nd Story is not to be missed. It's the perfect intimate date. It's the perfect night out with friends. Say it with me, folks: Hear Wine, Drink Story.
2nd Story is a performance event that combines stories, music produced by Serendipity Theater.
Talk about kick ass.
Three to four stories are told a night. Amazing stories. Stories that will make you laugh and make you cry and make you go "Hell Yeah" all at the same time. After each story there is a break, during which you are supposed to share your story with your friends or tablemates thus you have the "Second Story".
There are three different places stories are told per month: Webster's Wine bar, The Spot in Uptown and Red Kiva in the West Loop.
These are events not to be missed.
AND! AND! Every year there is a festival with nights and nights of stories told by many different people.
2nd story is totally worth your money and your time, for sure.
