It's true, I've always been loyal to 2K Thai. The food is fresh and the service is always friendly and quick. I do have to admit, there are too many damn thai restaurants in Davis...so out of all of them that I've tried, I like this one the most. Also...unlimited thai iced teas rock my world.
One down side is that they only can split the bill once...but I understand it saves them from excessive credit card processing fees. -

I came here recently with two buddies. They wanted to try the pad thai and the yellow curry and one of the specials, this seafood pot with rice noodles. From my few experiences here, DO NOT GET THE SPECIALS. I have to say it was pretty tasty, but way over-priced and small portioned. Fine, you can't really expect such seafood anyway but I've never seen smaller pieces of shrimp in my life. I had to take out a magnifying glass. There was 2 even smaller pieces of scallop, 3 mussels, and some squid. The noodles (if you're Chinese, it was fun-see) cost like 2.00 for 10 bundles. They used probably 2 bundles, so there wasn't much noodles.
The pad thai and yellow curry were good and surprisingly with a large portion. They add a good amount of meat into the dishes. We were definitely full and satisfied.
Watch out for one of the waitors. He seemed like he was trying to make us order more than we wanted. He asked us 4 times if we wanted appetizers...2 times if we wanted thai iced-tea...and 5 times if we wanted three orders of white rice. Either he wanted us to get more...or he thought we were fat and hungry. Or perhaps overly waitory-friendly. -

This is probably the best place to get Thai food in Davis... or WAS the best place. They no longer exist and have moved across the street to become KetMoRee. I loved 2kThai because the vibe inside the restaurant felt so unique and Thai-like, the way it's supposed to be. Their Thai Tea was especially good. I always came here to get their Pad Thai or the the Pad Kee Mow. They were usually on the pricier side but still, always delicious...
Too bad they've moved.
I'm a little hesitant to try the new place.
It just doesn't seem so Thai anymore.
RIP 2kThai...... )'= -

Analogy:
You meet a girl. She's really pretty, wears nice clothes, seems like she has a good personality. Then you get to know her a little better, got out on a couple of dates, only to find out she's a chain smoker, solely plays the Grease Soundtrack in her car, has slept with half of your friends and votes Republican.
I wanted to like 2K Thai. The decor is great and suprises you as it's much classier on the inside than out. The service is superlative for a Thai restaurant. Our waiter promptly brought out the best Davis Water (yes, "Davis Water" is a proper noun...you know what I'm talking about Davis-ites) I've ever had. Evidentially, they soak their water with limes to get it to taste better. Alright. What a nice, thoughtful touch. I thought tthat, surely, I was in for a great dinner. We order by number and the waiter then rattles off the actual name of the dishes corresponding to every number we gave. A small feat which, nevertheless, made me gain a little more confidence in this place.
But, sadly, the food seems like an afterthought here. First off, every dish we got was bland. Thai food should be anything but bland. No heat, no spice, and, while I'm no fan of overly salted food, guys...ya gotta kick up the sodium content a bit. I can't emphasis the 'no heat" thing enough. We got what 2k thought were "spicy" dishes...which are so mild that they could have been eaten by a person with stomach ulcers and that person would not be phased....so I ask for the spice cart, which comes pretty standard at most every thai restaurant. I thought it was odd that there wasn't a thai chili to be seen in any of the dishes. Turns out, this place doesn't seem to use them, because what constituted a spice cart was a container of chili paste and dried red chili flakes.
Bleh. Nothing worse than boring Thai food. Avoid this place. -

2K Thai Food makes for a good first impression and offers an experience into one of the better Asian restaurants in Davis albeit it does not say much. 'Family-style' dinner entrees start at a reasonable $8 with appetizers hovering around $7.
For better or for worse, be prepared for a heavy dinner. Our opening Corn Cake appetizer was expectedly oily but good. The Pad Thai noodle dish is laden with a sauce that weighs you down, and makes more than two servings almost excessive. However, the Pla Sam Rod, a cooked Sole fish with a variety of peppers and sweet pineapple, was bar none the star of the show.
By personal preference I prefer light meals but 2K Thai Food is anything but that. Though if you are used to that kind of food or are looking for Thai cuisine in Davis, 2K Thai Food's modern ambience, notably prompt and courteous waiting service, and good food will satisfy. -

It's the best in Davis, so what are we complaining about?
Sure, it's not the BEST thai food ever, but then again, are we in Bangkok? No. -

I went to Davis on a random Sunday to surprise my wonderful boyfriend. I went with a friend and her family, and after the surprise ("Oh, you're here? That's great." Notice the lack of an exclamation mark at the end of the sentence.), he recommended 2K Thai Food.
I am a thai food fanatic. I don't know what you mean by it tasting like Chinese food (Sorry Rick E!), because it doesn't. Chinese food and thai food are on two entirely different mediums and to compare thai to chinese is unfair.
The prices were expensive and we were given small portions, but the waitstaff was nice and friendly. It seemed a bit overpriced for college students.
Generally a good experience. I'll probably dine here again if I surprise my significant other. -

I haven't eaten at many Thai restaurants before so I can't really speak with authority but I thought this place was pretty good. It's a little on the pricey side but I think that may have to do with the atmosphere of this restaurant. It's kind of a fancy-schmancy type of place with all the waiters and waitresses wearing bluetooth headsets and black uniforms.
Not really much to say on this one, food was good and will probably satisfy you if you have a Thai craving. The Thai Ice Tea was really good here but it was on the expensive side. I forgot how much but if you have to ask how much, then it's probably too expensive for you.
One thing I found amusing was the number of people working there. The place is on the small side yet they have like 2 waiters/waitresses per table. They also have 2 people at the door just greeting you as you come in and saying goodbye when you leave. Is that really necessary? All in all, not a bad place but nothing special. Good place to take a date though because of the atmosphere.
(1-5 with 5 being highest score)
Location- 4: In downtown Davis, good location
Price- 2: expensive
Cleanliness- 5: well kept. Don't have to worry about diseases
Service- 5: Read description
Shadiness factor- 0: I don't think shady people can afford to eat here -

Not the best, not the worst...
Came here with another friend of mine who attends UC Davis. We came here on a Tuesday night, so there weren't much customers. Out of all the restaurants I've been to in Davis, this is probably considered fancy and clean? It's decent...
Service: both waiter and host were very attentive & friendly (water was filled on a promptly manner)
Food: I ordered Pad Thai, and the taste is okay. (Don't feel any special)
Environment: dim lights, prompt seating, clean...
Price: Average; you pay what you get.
Parking: parking lot across the street -

A friend of mine took me here for dinner. Right when I walked into the restaurant I was surprised with how nicely decorated it was. For downtown Davis, I'd consider this place 'fancy'--with it's dimmed lights and elaborate Thailand themed decor. It's a little on the small side but apparently they have expanded to the nearby KetMoRee restaurant. If you're a student and you have family/friends visiting and want to take them out to a nice restaurant, I'd take them here (or KetMoRee).
Their menu contains the typical Pad Thai and various Thai dishes. I'm very indecisive so I made things easier by settling for the Pad Thai. I can't say anything bad about it but I've had better. For Davis, it will do. My friend ordered a chicken curry with rice. I don't remember which color/kind but it was pretty good. The curry flavor wasn't too overwhelming, the veggies were perfect (crisp and not soggy), and the chicken was tender.
The waiter was very friendly and checked on us often. They also deliver. Parking can be a pain since it's street parking. However, there's a small lot across the street if you don't mind walking. -

Maybe some of the reviews are out of date or based on prior experiences, but the place is pretty nice. My review should be fairly unbiased as I've never been to Davis before, but I've been at quite a few Thai restaurants here in SF.
We came here on a Friday night, around 6-7PM, and were seated right away. We were greeted very politely and shown to our seats promptly. The waitress was kind enough to thoroughly explain the specials for the week, which was much better than just saying "specials are on the board over there." Our drink orders were taken right on time and our main order shortly after that.
Everything arrived as expected and tasted great! Couldn't find a single thing wrong with any of the dishes we had.
Also, Mango Sticky Rice is awesome!! -

I've been here multiple times and I've always been pretty satisfied; they have a variety of Thai dishes, with lots of curry and spicy dishes.
however, there are just so many Thai places in Davis so I never really go here unless its my last option. I just find their portions pretty small compared to places like Thai bistro. They're not tiny but..they're VERY measured.
Oh I know its kind of mean to say this but I noticed that a lot of their employees are gay. I just think that's kind of cute and funny at the same time, and no I have nothing against them.
But yeah, most dishes are between $7-15; Their drinks are also on the pricer end for Davis.. $3.75 for a thai iced tea, $2.50 for a soda but they serve unlimited refills for both so I guess that makes up for it.
I usually always end up spending like $45 with tips on two people which is kind of annoying but thats why I usually choose Thai Bistro. However..this place is probably the cleanest Thai place in Davis :) -

PROS:
- upscale ambience (as upscale as you can get in downtown Davis... lol)
- pretty good Thai food
- their servers are always so attentive, but not annoyingly attentive
- i'm a fan of their spicy lamb :D ever since Kabul got run out of business, I was wondering where I could get some good lamb! 2K Thai is the answer
- bottomless thai iced tea. college students love that shizz.
CONS:
- a little pricier than the food that the average college student can afford, but I don't mind :P
- the place is a bit small (but they will be moving to a hopefully larger place)
- their lettuce wraps. it's one of their "specials" but PLEASE, i've had better mushu wraps at cheapie chinese restaurants!! it's just a no. lol -

I clearly should have read some yelp reviews before going to 2K. We were hungry, we were in Davis, and if the company hadn't been lactose intolerant, we would have gone to Woodstock's and been happier for less money.
It's just ok. Pad Kee Mow was edible but unimpressive in every way, as was the stir fried chicken with vegetables. And it's expensive (maybe Davis is just expensive?). Pass. -

Its been a while, but I used to come here every now and then back when my gf dormed at UCD. We have tried quite a few of their entrees, and our favorite i think would be the chicken pad thai (I'm a pad thai fanatic)
Good food, the staff is friendly, and I'd say the prices are pretty normal. No real complaints here. -
Review from Chris B.
My favorite of all the Thai restaurants in Davis. We would always go here for lunches with the workteam whenever somebody had a birthday. You can ask for "family style" and order off of the dinner menu for lunch if you bring a group like ours. The staff there was very accommodating.
Love the Tom Yum Gai soup, served in a big tureen and with enough lemongrass and limejuice to make it perfectly sharp. Thumbs up also for the red curries and the three-flavor fish.
The name still kills me. It was supposed to be a play on words when the restaurant first opened (presumably around the year 2000). So it's not Y2K, it's Thai2K, but somewhere in the translation it became 2K Thai. O.K.? -

My favorite Thai place in Davis. I found it hard to order things other than the red curry duck, which became my standby and test dish for other places after getting it here. When I was coming here a lot, we had a favorite server who was always really nice and attentive. I once came with my then girlfriend and I lost a bet about something, the stakes of which were that I had to ask when we would get our fortune cookies. We could see the wheels turning in the waitress's brain, wondering how she should respond. She was obviously confused and tried to explain that this was a Thai food place (to which we pretended to act as if we didn't see how that should matter), but eventually we did tell her we were kidding and she laughed.
I've been here many times, and I don't know when I'll next visit Davis since I haven't gone to school there for several years, but this will always been a good dining option. -

OKAY...if you ask any of my friends, i am ...errrr...WAS in LOVE with this place! in january of 05, i went here 12 times! lol. however, terrible service over and over again has kept me away. the prices are good, the pad thai is one of the best i've ever had, but the wait for the food and the snobby servers are enough to downgrade from a potential 5 stars (if they hired more people, had faster service and were nicer) to 1for dismal service.
unless you had tons of time to kill, i would NOT recommend you eat here. ugh..they told me we were too loud on my birthday too, but another group was even louder! the owner isn't very nice. don't go here on a tuesday. that's the regular cook's day off. the owner even told me not to go on a tuesday. lol. i am probably her harshest critic and she knows it. she also knows i love her pad thai. -

Even the worst Thai food--unless it is Chinese food passed off as Thai (such as at the now deservedly defunct Thai House on 24th Street in Sacto)--is at least decently tasty. I have experienced some pretty fine flavors at Thai 2K. But I've never quenched a hungry appetite there once in the 8-10 tries I've given them. A bowl of curry for $9.95 shouldn't be such a dainty little cup.
Decent quality, but deplorably low quantity spells disappointing value. -

2K Thai Food is a good place to get some Thai food in a more contemporary place.
I am not the biggest fan of Thai food but this place is good. I like the lighting and environment inside. All the workers are dressed well in black and the furniture is nice.
I like the tall glasses that they serve the Thai Iced Tea in.
The Pad Thai is good. I never venture too far from that common, basic Thai dish.
I usually never choose Thai food, but if I had to pick a place in the Davis area, I guess I would go here. -

I used to go here for their pad thai, but lately it seems that the pad thai has been drenched in salt. I usually like my food on the salty side, but that time around even I couldn't handle it. I struggled with my friend to finish our dishes. I'm hoping that it was just a fluke.
The best part is their packaging. From the decor, menus, plates, etc. it feels like a going out location. But the atmosphere alone cannot make up for the food. -

For the record, this place gets 3.5 stars. An ample menu, decent prices, really fast and attentive service. Better than average, but not great either. The green curry here is some of the best I've had in a while. But they will detect your white-ness and adjust the heat appropriately unless you stop them.
2K Thai has an understated, but actually secretly interesting ambiance to it. The decor inside has your standard thai-ish wooden chairs and tables and whatnot. But the back service area has some interesting wood work, the art on the walls is worth taking a gander at. Really...you wouldn't really notice any of it if you didn't try. I almost didn't. But it's pretty neat. -

My girlfriend and I gave 2K Thai Food a chance after finding out that our regular Davis Thai food restaurant is closed for a month. The inside of 2K Thai is clean and uses a lot of dark tones. The servers were nice, quick and equally dressed in dark colors.
The menu includes appetizers, salads, soups, curries, fried rice, noodles, seafood, bar-b-q and different a la carte dishes. Lunch dishes are priced between $8 and $10. Dinner dishes cost between $9 and $12. Thai iced tea costs between $3 and $4, with or without black pearls.
The two of us ordered a simple dinner with steamed brown rice ($2 each), Gang Phed Ped Yang ($10.95) and one of the month's specials ($15). The Gang Phed Ped Yang is a red curry with roasted duck, bell pepper, pineapple, tomatoes, carrots, green beans and basil. The duck wasn't greasy and tasted good. The special was a curry served in a coconut with scallops, mussells, calamari and shrimp. It was spicy without being overpowering and I liked all the seafood included in the dish. The dinner portions were appropriately sized and the Thai iced tea was refilled regularly. We had plenty of leftovers.
2K Thai delivers for free on orders that cost more than $40. There is a $5 charge for orders less than $40. The delivery range includes anywhere within a five-mile radius of downtown Davis.
I wish they offered a spicy curry with potatoes. I have yet to find a Thai restaurant that does. I would like a mix of the spiciness of a red curry with the heft of the vegetables found in yellow curries. This isn't much of a knock on 2K Thai; it's more of a suggestion.
I can't comment on how this ranks among Davis restaurants. I didn't order the same dishes at 2K Thai that I've ordered elsewhere. What we had tasted good and the service was excellent. I've read that a lot of people have had different experiences and prefer Sophia's Thai Kitchen, Thai Bistro or Thai Nakorn. I've good meals at those restaurants too. -

I've been to more authentic thai restaurants. I ordered the pad see ew which is a sugary salty noodle dish with egg, chicken, and broccoli. It was small in portion size. For our appetizer I had the chicken satay which was very bland. Our main dish was the chili pepper squid which was light on flavor. I probably would eat somewhere else next time but I have to say that the service was excellent and attentive.
Two hours later, I ran to the bathroom because I thought I was going to die. This place is dirty and this place is literally swimming with flies on the wall. Not to mention that although the inside is heavily air conditioned the kitchen and bathroom are not which should tell you about the sanitary conditions about the place. -

2k Thai gets an extra star just for being in Davis.
The food is good although very typical/basic. Could find much better Thai food elsewhere, but it IS Davis...
There's no authentic Thai restaurant feeling... no Thai guests, no Thai waiters (Caucasian boys in formal wear...). I guess its a pretty nice place though. My roommate Terry (shoutout!) and I still like it.

My favorite restaurant in Davis. I had been going to Thai 2K before it became all fancy shmancy. It is a family-owned and operated restaurant. The owner there is extremely friendly, i believe her kids are waiters and waitresses. They too, are attentive.
My favorite dish on the menu is Pad Kee Mow. The seafood soup is awesome as well. My ex-roomate lived by their seafood dishes.
i love 2k thai -

I'll keep this short. I only give it four stars because of all the other Thai places in Davis (which would get three) this is my favorite.

The service has always been good even when the food was inconsistent. The new decor is nice too although that's not that important to me. -

Wow...that Mary M had a piece of metal in her food and 2k Thai still got three stars!!
Well my food didn't have any metal so they get four stars. Its a pretty nice atmosphere, good decor, nice cool lighting. I got my usual pad thai with thai ice tea. Probably one of the better ones that I've had. Very good. Average plate comes to around 10 bucks each. They also had a cute waitress one time.... :-) At least I think that it was this place... -

Of the five Thai restaurants I have been to in downtown Davis, this one has been the best experience. The best food I have had on one occasion was Thai Bistro the first time I had been there.
2K Thai was a Philly Cheese Steak type place my freshman year and the sandwich shop aesthetics stuck around a bit during the beginning of 2K Thai's existence. It was cool seeing it over the next four years evolve into a classy looking joint. The food as always been very good, if a bit inconsistent. I guess the restaurant peaked food and experience was around 2003-2005 when it had fewer waiters, more family members (the woman owner was quite a character, I don't see her anymore) and seemingly more consistently great food.
It's still good in my book and better than most Thai food I've had since leaving Davis (weird, I know). -

This place was once very, very good. It was a humble family operated restaurant that served great good. My red duck curry was always perfect and the pad thai and fried rice dishes here were excellent, as well. A few times, the grandma of the family even brought my my take-out orders.
Lately, however, business has been too good apparently. The restaurant attempted to get ultra-modern and hired servers and wait staff that aren't needed in such a small restaurant. A lot of them aren't polite nor are they well-trained.
The two daughters of the family used to be excellent servers but the son who has been put in charge, it seems, is amazingly rude. The fact that he now cooks my food sometimes concerns me a bit and I have gone here far less often than I used to.
For the perfect meal, BTW, get a curry and then go across the street to the Kathmandu restaurant to buy some Naan. Yum.

It sounded cheap to me at first but for Davis it ain't to shabby. The servers are more professional than other Thai places I've been to. LIke Cha Am in Vallejo (Don't GO THERE!) the servers are older but all idiots....At 2k Thai the servers are young...probably college kids but alot more well mannered and even cleaner looking.
Just go and try it. Its good. I order the chicken satay...mmmmm....

Wow, spending nearly six months in Davis has caused me to neglect Yelp!
This past week I went to 2K Thai for the second time. The first time, I remember thinking that it was pretty good, but not great. The food was fine and the service was alright.
The second time I came here was for a later dinner on a Wednesday. It was probably about 8:40 when my date and I arrived for dinner. There was an open table to the right of the door, and another in the middle of the dining room. Along the left-hand wall, there were three or four larger tables which were set for six people...I asked if we could be seated at one of these. When the hostess seated us, I noticed a guy in the back motioning to her that we couldn't sit there...I mentioned the late time to her, and she left. Shortly after, she returned to tell us that we had to move, there was a waiter (busboy?) behind her...like she needed backup. Maybe they thought this queen was gonna go crazy?
They explained that it was policy to not seat two people at one of the large tables.
Ok, I can totally understand that if it was time for dinner, that they would want to keep the tables open...but this is Davis. On Wednesday. An hour before closing. I don't think a blanket policy regarding where patrons are allowed to sit should be held to such strict compliance.
We moved tables, after I reminded myself to check the inner bitch, and just behave. The food was fine, the table service was fine, everything that everyone says is true that it's pretty decent, especially for Davis.
I'm not going to give them any more of my money though...there's other places where I can get decent service. -

I've been going here since it's first opened and looked more cafeteria-ish than it does now (huge redecoration project done). I've always loved the food. But now they do free Thai iced tea refills, which is always a huge plus. I really enjoy their duck dishes; I have mad cravings for it sometimes.
Also, just for fun, go use the bathroom. They have a really cool sink made out of plate of glass. -

Thai food always struck me as being moderately overpriced. There isn't much more to the preparation than generic chinese food and yet the prices are consistently about 20% higher.
It's similar to how new politicians enjoy a shiny coat of in the moment juju but old politicians are universally despised. News flash for you geniuses, new politicians invariably become old politicians.
Anyway depending on taste, this place is tied with the other four thai restaurants in davis. -

I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. So when a ridiculously small error and simple complaint that should have been readily resolved results instead with the manager raising her voice and giving attitude to the customer, a restaurant gets a scathing review.
This was my second attempt and first success at eating at 2KThai (the first time we waited so long for a server we decided to go somewhere else). Our food amongst four people was decent to good (vegetarian spring rolls really the only stand-out). The problem this time arose when we realized we had been charged for three rather than two servings of rice, which could have been overlooked except that of the two non-rice eaters, one of us had noodles (no rice comes with it) and one of us (me) had an explicit conversation about *not* having rice (waitress: "are you sure you don't want rice, it's a saucy dish?" me: "I do not want rice"). When we told the waitress the bill was wrong, she said she "just ordered rice for the whole table" rather than two servings. We assured her that the question of $2 was not an issue but we didn't order the rice- to which she replied, "Was there any rice left?"
It should be noted at this point that the rice was served in a communal pot, so we have no idea how many servings were actually brought out. We aren't even sure if there was any rice left, because the busser took it away when we were done with our food. We thought the question was a little weird, but were ready to let it slide (this is a Wednesday night after all), even after the waitress had left our table without suggesting that she'd take it off our bill. But then we saw the manager being brought into the discussion (this concern comprised less than 2.5% of our total bill but evidently 100% of management attention) and overheard the manager asking the waitress again "was there any rice left?"
Why this question again? Unfortunately for 2KThai, management does not adhere to the 'customer is always right' policy and instead goes for the 'customer is lying and trying to get free rice.' The fact that we all know there are customers like this is beside the point.
They took it off our bill, and I almost left without saying anything about the whole leftover rice business, but as we lingered with our waters the question really gnawed at us. Perhaps females will understand this better, but the assumption by the restaurant that one or more of us has eaten more of her fair share of the rice invokes feelings of guilt, remorse, and plain old fatness. And yes, we were reading into it, but should the deduction of $2 from our bill really depend on whether any rice was leftover??? As I was forming Yelping thoughts in my head, I decided I should let them try to explain why all this questioning about the rice. The waitress didn't have a good explanation, so I asked for the manager. She was immediately defensive with the stellar opening "I'm sorry you overheard" the second round of rice questioning and explained that their policy was that if any rice was leftover, and we had been served 3 rather than 2 servings, they would have to TAKE THE EXTRA RICE BACK if we say we only ordered 2 servings. Come on. How do we even know what we were served? If we were taking home leftovers with rice (fortunately for us, we were not), would we have to give them back?
This whole story is really ridiculous. But it just got so bad when the manager blamed the waitress for asking us about how much rice was left ("I don't know why she asked you that") while she was out of earshot, but when the waitress came to defend herself, the manager said "I told her to ask you that to see if we needed to take the rice back." When I called the manager on her inappropriate handling of the entire situation, she began raising her voice to me and defending herself with jibber-jabber, calling attention to the entire scene in this little restaurant.
Ugh. It was bad. The poor, poor management suggests to me this restaurant will not survive very long. Davis needs some new places, anyway. -

I would say this is one of the nicer Thai places in Davis because of the ambiance and setting but the food is alright. Dishes here are priced the same as the competition in Downtown but portions could be larger. Usually get Pad Thai or curry and all I can say is that it's solid. Nothing really special but another good alternative to the other Thai places downtown. Recommend this place for small groups more than the other Thai places.

This place is okay. The service isn't that great: the food takes forever and the wait staff ignores you half the time. As for the food, it's tasty, but only because thai food is generally swimming in a bowl of coconut milk/curry or doused with several spices, so it can't be anything but flavorful. There are several other thai restaurants in Davis that offer better cuisine.
And by the way, they opened up sometime between 2002-03 because that's when I started desperately looking for a job...this place had just opened up and had a "now hiring" sign brightly lit in the front window. When I went in to inquire about the job and get an application (again, I was a DESPERATE college student), the girl gave me one glance and informed me they were in fact NOT hiring. I asked them why they had a sign out front and all of sudden, the girl didn't speak English. Enough said; I can take a hint! Sucks for them because I had 5 years of restaurant experience under my belt. I should totally give them 1star just for that!
