Big slice of New York style cheesecake, two coffees, $10.  The cheese cake were more on the light side, I prefer more cream cheese in the recipe.  There are lovely fruit tarts and pastries here.  Here on a weekend night, most of the other customers were girls for some reason.   I had a panini here a while back, and it was pretty tasty.  Three and a half stars, rounded down.  It's a nice place, the atmosphere is a bit more commercial than I prefer.  Street parking is a bit difficult in this area.

Definitely one of my food vices; and this place always goes on my radar when I'm in or passing through the area.

Simply put, practically everything here is delicious -- I've never had a baked good here that missed, from their flaky breakfast croissants to adorable, crumbly mini Italian cookies to their decadent cakes and luscious tarts.  The paninis here are pretty decent too, though if I'm coming here -- I'm saving all that stomach space for the sweet stuff.

Particular favorites include Berry Blossom Cake (sponge brushed with orange liqueur, layered with assorted berries and white chocolate mousse topped & edged with white chocolate shavings), Pear Tart Tatin (and refreshing take on the usual Apple Variety), the Pear-Almond Tart (same as previous but with wonderful almond aromas) and their individually sized molten chocolate cake (you may as well say goodbye to all the other chocolate lava cakes you've encountered).

I've also brought Susina cakes to many a celebration, and it never fails to amaze guests in looks and in flavors.

The only downer I can imagine is that parking can be a hassle, but I rarely encounter trouble finding a space on the street.

I sat inside Susina for FIVE hours today. I loved it.

I was supposed to work from home today b/c I felt pretty lousy, sick, and tired. BUT, I saw how bright the sun was shining outside and I had a craving for some yummy baked goods so I decided to take my poor self for a nice treat~ And of course, I turned to Yelp! I decided on Susina because I've been there once before a long time ago and I couldn't remember what I ate but what I do remember was that it was absolutely delicious.

Everything looked so gorgeous and yummy, I felt as though I was a kid at a candy shop. I needed a good lunch so I ordered the prosciutto panini (tomatoes, prosciutto, some greens, and mozzarella) and the gunpowder green tea. The mozzarella was gooey and the bread was perfectly crunchy. The green tea came in a pot, and for the next 5 hours I was there, it was refilled 3 times by the nice servers.

I originally went there for their dessert so of course I got some. Hehe...I ended up asking for one of each of their mini french cookies...one of each of the 20 different varieties. The server put them all in a cute little box and tied cute little ribbons around it and placed a cute little Susina sticker on top. I took it to my seat and when I made sure he wasn't looking (he spent time making it look nice!), I tore it open in 2 seconds and had my first cookie. I told myself I would eat 2-3 pieces and save some for my roommates...but I ended up eating most of what was in the box.

I brought my laptop and did some work while nibbling on the cookies, once in a while dunking them into my hot green tea before placing them into my greedy little mouth! I was more productive at Susina than I usually am at the office!

This place is relaxing, gets a lot of sun and is fairly quiet for a popular cafe - I definitely felt a lot better than I was this morning.
At my next work meeting, I will propose moving our offices to Susina - to raise productivity, of course.

(Street parking available, must pay for wireless internet)

What a LOVELY cafe.

So pretty - so girly - so lovin' it.
So very delightful to come here with my sister.

This was the last stop for my very own bakery/cafe crawl.
What a bloody hot day to do a crawl - this place cranks the A/C so that you totally forget that it's even hot outside. I'm glad I checked this place out on a Sunday afternoon - I can imagine this place would be super packed during the work week at night.

I love scones and biscottis. The only biscottis they had were mini ones. Now on to the scones, they had 5 to choose from. Bliss.
Apricot Ginger, Raspberry Polenta (i got this), chocolate chip, blueberry, and one more.

I got excited when I heard Polenta - altho my sister immediately told me to simmer down - that's just a fancy way of saying they used cornmeal instead. Nonetheless, I congratulate for offering a different type of scone.

We tried the miniature/bite-size dark chocolate fruit tarts. Did not take a pic of this. But we had the raspberry one with pink cream & the blueberry one with white whipped cream. Loved the snap of the dark chocolate.

I love any places that leaves out samples - which surprisingly - most places dont (other than Trader Joes & Borders bookstore cafes). Anyways, they had brownie and chocolate cake teeny tiny bite size samples out in teeny tiny paper cups. Their brownie is a brownie is a brownie. But the chocolate cake had a lot of texture and different layers - it was decadent and rich.

PROS
Girly Ambiance
Clean
Interior Design

CONS
Not as large of a selection of pastries as I had expected

i went here tonight. I had read alot of reviews here and I also was looking at the menu online. I wanted to get a salad. I figured they would make etc. They said that if it is not in the case with the sandwiches they dont have anymore. I didnt like what I heard. I do not want a pre made salad. Not fresh eck!!! I then ask for a salami sandwich. I told him to go. He put it in the machine. Then went to help somebody else out. Its like 10 min later and he is like OH sorry. My sandwich was over cooked. I got home and basically had a sandwich with paper stuck to it. I got a cookie just to try. Havent tried it yet though. I really dont see myself going back there. A big disappointment!!!! I normally love going to bakeries etc.

This bakery is adorable! I came here with a friend and shared slices of their Bear and Berry Blossom cakes. Both were delicious, but the Bear was a little too sweet for me. The Berry Blossom cake, on the other hand, was absolutely perfect. I'm usually not a big fan of white chocolate but this cake was amazing!

Holy Dessert Cow!  Susina is a breath of fresh air.

Susina is a combination of a traditional Victorian Candy Shop, Fine Bakery and late night coffee & dessert shop.  Who could ask for more?  Almost everything is made there - and the espresso drinks surpass any run-of-the-mill Starbucks.

The owner is ever so nice - and is actually conscientious about the ridiculous rising cost of baking ingredients.

Anyway, this is a great place for any occasion.  Have dinner out - and save dessert and coffee for Susina!

This place is great for a first "online"  date.

Serves some food (that not only doesn't look fresh but kind of fake) but it has incredible desserts (strawberry shortcake anyone). You order, have your food given to you and pay for it all at the same time which is great b/c if you've arrived and within ten seconds after seeing this guy (who looks so little like his photo you're ready to take back your ex AND his mother) you're ready to leave,  you don't even have to wait the extra time it takes for your server to get you the check before telling  him, "I'm sorry, you're a great person, a very  different looking  person than you posted on your profile, I'll admit but nevertheless..." and then running home to watch "Make Me a Supermodel."

Also, if you are a student and want to hang out for a couple of hours and study you can and although you're not obligated to actually buy anything although I do. I consider it the cost of "renting" the chair.

I LOVE SUSINA!  This place is adorable.  This is a great place to grab a cup of coffee + dessert and chat with friends or to read a book and study. (They're next to a Starbucks on Beverly.  But, why would anyone in their right mind choose Starbucks over Susina!?)

The first summer, I discovered Susina, I frequent the store at least once a week!

I first fell in love with the Individual Chocolate Molten Cakes.  They warm the cakes, so each bite becomes a warm, yummy, chocolate, gooey goodness.

Next, I was obsessed was their Berry Blossom Cake, made with three layers of sponge cake filled with fresh berries and white chocolate shavings.  Now, I'm obsessed with their fruit tart.  They have a great shortbread crust!

After frequently visiting Susina for dessert, I started ordering their sandwich and soups too.  You can't go wrong at Susina.  This place is a must try if you're in the Beverly Blvd + La Brea area

me and a girlfriend made an indulgent visit AFTER having dinner elsewhere..teehee.  it was kinda late and i was surprised to see a bakery packed!  we had to stake out a table in the story book-like cafe.  i couldn't resist a cup of hot chocolate, and it didn't disappoint.  paired that with a slice of vanilla cake with a creamy filling of almond pieces, and a sliver of ganache...HEL-LO HEAVEN! :)

I'm a girl. And often, a girly girl. And more often than that, a sentimental girly girl.

So when this sentimental girly girl had to say au revior to the guy she's seeing because he gets to go to Paris/Europe for two weeks, it's not going to be a fun experience.

But Susina softened the blow.

We were able to get our coffee/tea, sit outside and enjoy the l.a. night air... while I reminisced about my times in Paris and he got excited about the times he would have there.

And Susina offers the perfect atmosphere to reminisce about those times and dream about the upcoming ones. It has a nouveau-French feel. Not authentic Par-ee... but it did have a certain feel. (It was too clean to be authentically Parisian).

They have the most amazing-looking pastries (but after dinner, we were both too stuffed to indulge....)  Their coffee was exceptional... and the tea looked fantastic (in a french press). They also have a great selection of specialty candies and all things that are cute and expensive to eat.

I'll definitely make my way back to Susina... maybe when I get to say bienvenue de retour, and we can BOTH reminisce about our times in Paris. And maybe even if we close our eyes, feel like we're still there...

A perfect spot to stop for coffee and a chocolate croissant to share with someone special before heading off to work in the morning...

Okay, super cheesy but it was the best morning ever and such a great way to start the day.

Just make sure you ask to have the croissant heated and you'll definitely be reminded (in the best way possible) of just how much butter really does go into them.

Super cute french inspired cafe--tables were filled when we came in but we managed to snag one soon enough.  Paninis looked really good for $7 each--my bf tried the smoked turkey on wheat foccacia and it was DELICIOUS.  The bread was perfectly crisp and they serve it with mini pickles.  At first, service was really bad bc the guy skipped over us for ordering and then burnt the first order of panini but offered drinks on the house.
All of the desserts looked delicious adn it seemed like everyone was ordering this huge white cake slice (triple berry maybe?) which I'll have to try next time.

Why would anyone choose Starbucks when Susina is right next door!?

A great panino served with Gherkins, an amazing cake or sweet (Berry Blossom Cake, or Banana or Coconut Cream Pie is my usual choice), and a nice hot Elixir have been a favorite weekend lunch since I moved to LA. (The missing star is because they are so often out of my favorite Elixir, Virtual Buddha.)

Also, the Soup Du Jour and Specials (like lasagna) are always worth trying.

Parking is usually easy on Detroit if you get there before 2pm on the weekend. There is also a private lot behind the bakery, but the Susina spots are usually full.

And, while you're there, get a tarot reading from Aunt Jackie (call  818.571.1710 to make an appointment; $40 for a full 30-45 minute reading). Come with an open mind, and between Aunt Jackie's reading and Susina's good eats, you'll leave happy.

A rare 5 Star rating from me goes to Susina Bakery and Cafe.  This place has the most delicious, decadent desserts.  They also have very light, less filling fare.  I loved the banana cream cake and another cake with light layers and whipped cream.  There's quite a selection when it comes to teas and coffees too.  Great place for a date or dessert after an evening out.  I agree with other Yelpers, parking is not ideal as Susina is near a busy intersection.  Make sure you grab a table when you arrive, the place fills up quickly.  Great atmosphere too.

Yummy cakes and deserts.  This place is one of my favorite bakeries to go to when I need an indulgence.

I've only tried their baked goods and desserts and it was all so fresh and yummy!

I know they are most well know for their triple berry cake, which IS very delicious with its mountain of fresh cream and fruit, sprinkled with crumbled vanilla meringe.   However, Sweet Lady Jane's triple berry cake is better. =P

My favorite cake here is the Bear cake which is a devil's food chocolate cake!

They give big slices here too!

You've GOT to try the Bear. It's my go-to cake for birthdays and its ridiculously yummy. I've also had the lemon berry cake and it was very delicious. The thing I love about Susina is that the cakes aren't overpoweringly sweet. Everything is light and airy while still being decadent.

It's hard being so Alpha all the time.

I know I make it look easy - what with my overwhelmingly pungent male pher-o-mones and my bo-honking machismo.

However, dear Yelpers, let me assure you that The Gar does power down once-in-a-Blue Moon, much like Michael Knight has to garage his high-performance, super-dope talking car K.I.T.T. every so often.

So in between episodes of vanquishing territorial nemeses and ravaging nubile nymphets, I like to tap into my more, shall we say, genteel side by tidying up my appearance and popping into Susina, which is oh-so-proper.

There I like to let the dulcet tones of Classical music dance into my ears and the sweet-sweet scent of potpourri waft into my nose, replacing thoughts of pummeling and smashing with ruminations of Les Beaux Artes and Haute Culture.

Instead of guzzling mead from goatskins and gnawing on barely cooked prey on the battlefields of Conquest, at Susina I can sip delicately-flavored Chamomile tea and sup on sumptuous panini and baked goods.

If you need respite from the madding crowd, lay down your arms and go to Susina. It'll give you the rest you require.

But, men, don't stay there too long and don't visit too often -- or you will develop a man-gina.

Four stars!

Susina bakery offers an amazing, abundant amount of baked goods that are flawless from presentation to taste.  I resist the urge to drool all over myself and the display case whenever I go there.

While I love baked goods one of the main reasons I keep going back is the delicious sandwiches they serve.  They have (small) flavorful yet subtle paninis that are a perfect way to start off a hung-over Saturday or Sunday morning.  Their Elixirs (juice-like beverages) go great with anything.  Not impressed with their coffee but maybe that's because I only like Starbucks.

Parking sucks and due to the immense popularity it can be difficult to find a table.

The perfect ending to anyone's evening.  Cute place.  Delicious desserts.  Just a nice place to kick back and hang out.  A great place to meet someone for a cup of coffee or tea.

While the Berry Cake comes no where close to Sweet Lady Jane's,
the Chocolate Raspberry Cake will save our soul -- or...at least ease your stress from trying to park in the neighborhood.

My fiance introduced me to this place several years ago. Its his go-to place for dessert, especially late at night.

It's a charming bakery and their display case just makes you want to drool. So much, that you just can't decide what to get. Their little cookies are oh-so-cute and delicious not to mention. It's a cute gift to give if you are heading out to a party and just want to give the hostess a little thank you gift.

Their owner, Jenna is extremely wonderful. She's the best! She's that awesome that we are having susina bake our wedding cupcakes and small 8 inch wedding cake. I'm so excited to use them as a vendor.

Susina Bakery rocks.  The cakes and pastries here are just ridiculously good.  I've sampled a number of their treats and have yet to try anything that wasn't completely delicious.

Last August, I ordered my husband's birthday cake from Susina.  I called in the order by phone and service was very helpful and polite.  Picked it up a week later and the service in the store was similarly courteous.  The cake was ready, it looked fantastic, the people behind the counter were very friendly and chatty.  I'd ordered the cake style called "Bear"- basically the most insane chocolate confection ever.  It was SO good.  Our friends raved over it at my husband's party.  I will absolutely be ordering special occasion cakes from Susina in the future.

Finally!  A bakery that's open late.  I never understood why bakeries were only for morning people.  Us night owls need a place to get good sweets too.  Susina's has amazing pastries, desserts, and drinks.

My biggest complaints are that the prices are pretty steep for the drinks and desserts, and there is often not enough seating (bring a jacket in the winter if you want to brave sitting outside).  There does always seem to be plenty of parking in the back though, which is nice (or if not, street parking is available).

*ducks to avoid random flying pastries*

Post food-coma from Pink's, the bf and I stopped by Susina on a long walk  down La Brea. The cakes and cookies looked gorgeous in the window, but the coffee and croissant we shared were overly flavorful. Parking also appeared to be terrible.

Susina's screwed me up!  I had JUST started this whole "I'm only eating minimally processed, low sugar" thing and then my friends and I went to Susina.  Granted, I'm not known for my self-control but I've been pretty good the past couple weeks.  However, that all changed at Susina.  I had this piece of cake that tasted somewhat like tirimisu. Chocolate and caramel shavings all over it.  Moca flavor.  Sigh.  It was amazing.  I'll have to start my little "diet" again in earnest.  But it was worth it.  Yummy stuff.

This is the screenwriter's dream coffee shop. Susina serves one of the finest cups of latte in LA and bakes some of the most authentic croissants around. Their portions are a bit small and meal prices a bit too high but the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere more than make up for it. No one seems to mind if yo spend and hour two here, finessing your script over one, two, three cups of coffee. The Prosciutto pannini is highly recommended for lunch as is the quiche.

If Giada from Everyday Italian likes this place, then of course it'll be awesome!
My friend introduced me to this place and I fell in LOVE with it. The bakery is cute and cozy, and has so many yummy cakes, pastries and cookies. The first time I came here, my friend had to pull me off the glass because I was embarrassing her. haha. It can get a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth the treat every so often. The sandwiches here are pretty good too. I like the veggie one even though I'm not vegetarian.

My recommendation? you have to try them all! But if you really can't choose, go for the BERRY BLOSSOM- the crumbled meringue and white chocolate shavings add a nice touch to this cake.

I wish it was my birthday every week.
Then! I won't feel so bad for chomping on Susina's Berry cake on a weekly basis.
You walk in, you see the cakes, cookies, pastries, salads and paninis in the case. You look up and there are pretty little chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

It's like you walked into High Tea. Remember your tea set? =)
Best things at Susina;
1.The Berry cake
2. The Banana Creme Pie
3. The Peanut Butter Chocolate cake
4. The Fig Tart (OMG)
5. The itsy bitsy little tea cookies!

I'll be back ,Susina....this is my last forkful!

FAQ

Q: Do they have croissants here?
A: Only the best croissants this side of France. Come early, buy boatloads because they go fast.

Q: Do they have tiny little pastries there?
A: Most definitely. Delicious.

Q: I just want a sandwich, do they have those?
A: You've come to the right place!

Q: Okay, what about fresh fruit?
A: One of the best fruit bowls on the planet.

Q: Do they have $8.00 greeting cards here?
A: Yah. Support your local artist. Even if it's $8.00

Q: Do they have good tea here?
A: Damn good.

Q: FINE. What *don't* they have that I would crave?
A: A Captain Morgan and Cola. But I'm sure they can arrange something if you got in real good with the bakers.

FYI ... Don't buy a boatload of croissants. I'm sure the people behind you would hog-tie you and steal your croissants. Don't Be A Croissant Hog! (Do I sense an awesome new trendsetting bumper sticker?)

I was surprised in that I would like a place like this.

It was a place that I always wanted to go ever since I read Heather R.'s famous cakezilla review. Somehow I have this eerie sneaky feeling.

After reading through the reviews, I noticed girls outnumbered the guys reviews by 7 to 1 ratio. So of course I wondering if I'm going to encountered this when I made the visit.

You betcha!

The bakery shop have this nice looking Vienna style bakery decor. It made me think of the kind of cafe Amelie would be daydreaming in. In a  very cool way, it does have that feminine touch. It's not like I would go sterile in coming here, but it does give me an impression that chicks dig this place.

The first thing I see when i walked in was a bunch of cake out on display. Right next them are some of the baked goods and pastries. Then on the far corner was those sandwiches and subs. The poor ol' sandwiches seemed to be least popular as they were left in there a long time.

The first thing I grabbed was the many different versions of fruit tarts: http://www.yelp.com/bi... . These are like in bite size and the tart are just a chewy delights in your mouth. I was able to grab the raspberry in a chocolate cover, a blackberry tart, and a tri-raspberry tart. Those bite size tarts are a perfect snacks.

Then I was able to grab some cookies home: http://www.yelp.com/bi... . I love those double chocolate covered layered with strawberry jam in the middle. It's like chocolate covered strawberries without the the stem. The striped cookies are a cool zebra colored mixture that goes well with your milk.

The big sensation was the chocolate souffle http://www.yelp.com/bi... . Now that in a nutshell would have been the crowning achievement in most restaurant. There are some Yelpers who remained nameless would judged the entire meal based on how good the souffle was served.

Let's just say this souffle served with a meal would passed with flying colors.

The tart itself wasn't too bad priced. The cookies were charged $20 per pound. (poor me would only take a quarter of pounds worth). The Souffle was the bigger ticketed item. Overall, all three item would rang me up around $17. For a bakery items, that would be a back-breaker for most people. To me, it was well worth it.

If these delightful little snacks and desserts are that good., I'm willing to try their signature cake. In fact I might even considered the cakezilla to be part of my wedding. I'll definitely make room for her as I am RSVP her a seat right next to my table with full attention. That is for sure.

Oh, the question of the ratio to this place...let's just say it's a definitely a date place and a great place to meet women out there if you are single... I was one of the only three male customer at the time among the sea of women. A definite chick's place.

I've been coming here since it was called "Sugar Plum" (same owner but she changed the name). The pastries and cakes are fresh and taste like they were made to order just for you. I love the tiny custard tarts with the one big blueberry on top.
Scores extra Hollywood points because I saw Thora Birch there and she smiled at me.:)

Susina! Susina! I love ya Susina! You're only 5 days away! This is what I sing on Mondays when I think of visiting this marvelous bakery cafe on the weekend. I love this cafe with all my heart and soul and I mean it. I stand in front of the display case drooling at the prettiest cakes for a good 15 minutes before I make up mind.

The European and American desserts and pastries are just heavenly and the atmosphere is one that is both charming and romantic. I have yet to try the food there, but I hear it's great!

But my favorites by the talented pastry chefs include:

Berry Blossom Cake - white butter cake, fresh fruits, you'll be done in 2 minutes. Melt in your mouth pleasure
Red Velvet Cake - this is how exquisite red velvet is done..
Chocolate Hazelnut Tart - a chocolate lovers' dream that stimulates senses you never knew you had...

The coffees and teas are fantastic. The bakery's staff is very friendly and helpful.

You won't be disappointed! Great place to take a date to after dinner as they are open until 11pm! I'm salivating now...

Susina has the most delicious baked goods in town.  Favorites include the apple fante, blueberry scone, tomato and cheese croissant, and white chocolate/berry cake.  The goat cheese/roasted vegetable sandwich is also fantastic, as is the chai latte.  The staff is super friendly, especially the weekday morning staff, who treat their regulars like old friends!  Bedecked with green chandeliers, the space itself is quite charming.

Also, breakfast pastries are half off after 10PM.

I'm a little bummed that they stopped selling Valerie.  I ended up buying some random chocolate instead, but it's just not the same.  The biscotti is wonderful!  Very light and extremely flavorful.  I also love the cherry tart and the berry cake.  I just wish they had better parking, but can't complain too much.
