This event will never score lower than 5 stars unless Dick Cheney hosts it and he charges every single shot of chowder.

This year there were :
Clam category - 8 entries
Creative - 5 categories
Seafood - 5 entries
Clamcakes - 3 entries

I wish I had a pen with me to take a note. Each competitor had quite distinctive taste and they were all worth mentioning. But I just pick those I remember.

***Clam Category
- The Montauk Yacht Club(Montauk, NY)
This chowder must have fondue cheese in it, and I found it suited to NE clam chowder. Thumbs up.

- The Pier (Newport RI)
Thumbs down. I didn't like it. Too much bacon!! I know pork taste good and produce the tastiest fat. But don't cheat! Don't buried the flavor of clam!

- Stella Blues(Warren, RI)
My memory is a little hazy on this one. This one might have been another one that overused pork. Too much ham? If I were wrong, Sorry Stella!

- Lisa Cucina(Cranston RI)
Among Newport dominating entries in Clam category, I had somewhat sentimental attachment to this place as they are from Cranston, RI(I technically lived every weekend there when I was dating a girl from Cranston). And this was one of the best so far. They kept good old traditional clam chowder with a hint of celery. And it suited very well.

- Windward Restaurant at The Hyatt(Newport, RI)
This one also had cheese emphasized flavor but not as overwhelming as The Montauk Yacht Club. It had a *hint* of cheese in flavor.

This year, I didn't only spend 2 hours there. My friends and I went back again a few hours later after long walk through Sachuest Point to walk off the chowder we ate in RD1. So in total, we were there almost 4 hours combined. And it was awesome.

To get most out of it next year, I would recommend to be there by noon and out by 2pm for RD1. Then walk off the chowder by checking out Masion, Cliff walk or Sachuest Point for 2 hours. Then go back there around 4. Some vendors closes as soon as voting booth closes at 5. So if you want to go back again, go back by 4:30 at the latest.

This year was the first time I attended this event, and I was very impressed! There was so much chowda there, that I was overwhelmed! I'll admit that I'm a traditionalist when it comes to clam chowder, but out of 8 entries it was still very difficult to choose my favourite! I enjoyed the cheesy flavoured one, and the celery flavoured ones the most. But, I did not enjoy the ones with bacon or ham in them. There was also one that tasted like oyster which was a shock to the taste buds. (I think I had to get a beer to wash that flavour down.) The clam cakes were also excellent. I didn't eat as much as I could have- I wanted to save room for some ice cream. :D
