This is just a trivia posting for all those folks who drive the 280 Freeway here on the Peninsula and may be missing or not seeing, an instantaneous 'scenic event' of their travels, other than the usual scenic beauty, such as the Crystal Springs Watershed/Lakes, along this very scenic route!
Whether traveling North or South, a driver has probably noticed that there are two important 280 Road/Highway Intersection off/on ramps located on 280 in about the middle of the Peninsula.  The two Intersections that I am referring to are the Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park and Alpine Road, Palo Alto intersections.
Whether traveling North or South, located between these two intersections is a 280 overpass bridge that one might barely notice.  However, if the driver/passengers might take a quick look either way on the underside of this bridge, you might quickly note that the bridge is neither overpassing a road nor a stream of water.  In fact, what you will see, stretching forth on either side of 280 from the bridge that I am talking about here, is a quite long and relatively narrow building.
This is the Klystron Building of the world-famous Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), which is almost 2 miles in length and passes directly under the 280 Freeway!  So, the next time that you travel 280 and pass over that bridge, just realize that under your car, atoms, electrons, neutrons or whatever, may be traversing the 2 miles of SLAC under your car!
And if you might be scientifically inclined, of course you can search here on Yelp for all the Yelp Reviews about the SLAC.  And if you are a most-inquisitive-minded and scientifically-inclined 5 year old "Mad Scientist" (or so inclined adult, as well... or just a scientifically-inclined sports fan, who wants to know scientifically whether the Mind and Consciousness of Barry Bonds is going to hit the ball or strike out!), check out the 'cutting-edge-of-scientific-research-and-reality' Review here on Yelp, for the Freedom, Independence & World Democracy (FIWD) Institute.  You may find it to be even more interesting than what is happening in the quantum realms under that bridge in Menlo Park!
