Good stuff!  I've have a couple different things off the menu...my usual is the
*Pork Ribs, which are huge and sometimes look like they were off a Brontosaurus!  They have that great salty meat flavor and can taste the smokey fire they cook over.  Very juicy, different from a smoked rib, great BBQ taste.  Very salty as well, but in a good way, as most churrasqueiro's are.
*The Chicken is delicious.  They cook them over an open flame on a rotisserie. Always moist, with that distinct flavor of the fire in which they're cooked over, I think they squirt Franks Hot Sauce on them while they cook but I could be wrong, it is very good though.
*The Garlic Shrimp is good too, but my only complaint is that they're not butterflied so they have the vein up the middle of it that I'm not a huge fan of due to the fact it has their "poop" and other waste...lol
*The Chorizo  is okay, different from most that I've had, I didn't really like it from here, but I guess that depends on taste.
*The Steaks aren't the greatest quality of meat, tried their steak sandwich once, wasn't very happy with it, but the other menu items make up for it.
*The Short Ribs are that great, if you're getting ribs, stick with the pork.
*The Serradura is fantastic too, very tasty dessert.

Overall, I like the place, the portions are HUGE, and the rice and black beans are pretty good.  You can get red beans, or fries too. I only ate their once, and the service was decent, nothing special, but they did what they were suppose to do.  I would recommend this place w/o a doubt!  Very reasonably priced and definitely worth the portion size!!!

BBQ 28 was a recommendation from a friend and to my surprise I was rather disappointed with my visit. Rather than a Portuguese roll, I was given white slice bread, chicken was dry and not falling off the bone as in the usual Portuguese BBQ joints in Ironbound area and beef ribs were tough and tasteless. Everything was a bit too salty, no spoons for the rice and the eating area was cold.

Churrasqueria at its finest.  The portions are HUGE and well worth the money.  We often go here for lunch and I'm sure it's family style dining but we always end up getting individual dishes.  Needless to say, we leave completely stuffed and with a doggy bag that could serve as dinner for later that night.

try the picadinho (pork cubes and potatoes) and the frango no charrasco (bbq chicken & beef short ribs).  the platters come loaded with rice, beans and/or potatoes.

My friend was a huge fan of this place and so he got my husband to cater mu birthday with 28 BBQ. Every one at my party was salivating when they realized it was 28 BBW. Very affordable, tasty and huge portions. Cannot review service but we enjoyed the roasted chicken, rice&beans, and beef short ribs. No complaints except i wish i had eaten more. :)

Big portions, friendly staff, outstanding food, great prices!

Eat in, take out, the hardest part of this experience was snagging parking before the lot fills up.

Try one of the homemade deserts, too.  Will be returning soon.

Went here for a friend's birthday, and overall, it was a pretty good experience.
    The Good:
    - You can bring your own wine or beer.
    - The menu is simple and straightforward, the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender, and portions are generous. We each took home about half of our meal.
    - The service is super-quick and attentive. I got there late and they got me my food in almost no time.
    - The pickled veggies and black olives are a nice addition to the meal.

    The Bad:
    - SALT. I don't like very salty food, and this definitely left me feeling thirsty. The rice was especially salty, but then again I don't much like yellow rice anyway. The beans also tasted like they were from an industrial-sized can, but for the price, I guess that's pretty much to be expected. Which brings me to my next point...
    - If you order water, you can only get a bottle of water, not a glass or pitcher of regular ice water. They explained that the tap water there wasn't very good, but seriously - you're a restaurant, you should do something about that. Get a filter or something.
    - While the portions of meat that my friends got had very little waste, my chicken had a deceptive amount of bone, skin, and fat, so I felt that they got their money's worth more than I did.

Overall: not the best thing ever, but a very good value, and straightforward good food.

I was very dissatisfied with the service and the quality of the food in this establishment.  My friend, a Portuguese native, and I were looking for a good place to introduce others to Portuguese cuisine. However, we were sorely let down.

Upon arriving, my friend and I were quickly seated and given menus. After which, the waitress ignored us for nearly half an hour.  The place was mostly empty and there was really no excuse for the wait.  After the waitress finally came over, ordered our drinks and food. We asked for tap water and she instead brought us bottled water (increasing our bill) -- and she didn't even bother to bring us drinking glasses.  We had to get up from the table and walk over to her in order to ask for the glasses even though she could clearly see us and knew that we desired some service.  There was continued poor service through out the meal, though it did get better when we got a different waitress.

The food itself was decent. We shared a full order of the pork ribs and a salad.  The portions are large, but the meat was a little fatty and was lightly seasoned on the outside making it not very flavorful.  The bread served with the meal was bad; being old, soft and flavorless.  The salad was plain and simple.

After the meal, we ordered espresso. We think they poured regular coffee into the espresso cup while still charging us the $2.50 for the effort.  My friend simply refused to drink it, we paid the bill and left.

Without the extremely poor, and frankly rude, service I would say this is a 2-3 star Churrasqueria; mostly for the quantity/price value -- but with better options in the area I don't think I will be returning.

Typically, I don't like to write updates, but I am going to on this one.  I had this place rated as 5-stars, but I try to be very selective with my 5-star ratings.  I have lowered 28 BBQ to a 3-star, but that is still a very respectable rating.  When I first started going here, everything was always spot on but I have had some pretty so-so experiences on my last few visits.

The new dining room they built is nice - it gives you another indoor space to eat.  I feel like the service is hit or miss - some are better than others but it is usually decent.  On to the food.

The garlic shrimp app is awesome - they give you a ton of shrimp.  This is my favorite item on the menu at 28 BBQ.  I usually go with the chicken and pork ribs combo for my meal.  My wife usually gets a house salad for one of her sides and I really like the salad.  They have a great house dressing - it reminds me of almost like a raspberry vinaigrette.  I really like the chicken here - it is always spot on.  But, the ribs have been so off the last few times I have been here.  They have been incredibly dry and almost overcooked.  There has also been a ton of fat on them - leaving very little meat on to eat.  I was pretty disappointed by that.

The portions are huge - but, there is an absolute ton of rice and who is actually going to eat all that rice?  I always like the chicken but the ribs have been off.  Salad is good and they also have good fries.  Prices are very reasonable, almost cheap.  I am not going to stop coming here, but I may just stick with the chicken or give something else a try.

Checked this out quite some time ago on a trip to NJ.  Overall it's an amazing stop for some Barbeque.  Not the que we get in Texas, but still very good for Portuguese BBQ, which you don't see too often.  The people that run it are very nice and they give you what seems like a monster portion.  Two could eat off one dinner and be full easy.  Spice and flavors are all great too, my only complaint is the salt.  It wasn't to the point of me not eating it or really being that bothered, I can just tell when I need to lay off sodium for a few days and this is one place that will do it to you.  Still though, the salt isn't that big a deal, the food is still lip smacking good.

They seem to keep Spanish TV on too, which is great as I don't see that much in NJ.  Keeps me entertained.

Good food....and plentiful for the price. Quick turnaround with a comfy atmosphere. Yellow rice is delish and fluffy. Sometimes the meat can be somewhat salty, but the food is great.  Be careful when chomping down, some of the smaller bones get mixed in there.

A friend randomly suggested this restaurant.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  When you come in the front side, you're immediately hit with the smell of charcoal grilled meat goodness.

I usually decide between the half-bbq chicken or the beef ribs over Spanish rice.  The meats are sauceless but adequately seasoned aka DELICIOUS.  The meals are a terrific value at around 8 bucks IIRC.  They come with a choice of salad or fries.  Definitely a great deal for a lot of good food.

The menu is a varied selection of delectable dishes, freshest ingredients, and huge portion are to be expected to staisfy any palette. 28 BBQ uses only real wood charcoal in preparing it's entrees, coupled with special seasonings that gives the food its unique, natural flavor.

We had 28 BBQ cater my birthday part a few months back and we really enjoyed the experience. For about $150 we fed about 30 people and still had food left over. We got a full tray of short ribs which were very good and not to fatty. The meat is tender, but obviously not as tender as you would get with slow cooked pork. We also got a full tray of the chicken which was very flavorful and not to dry. For sides they gave us a full tray of french fries, full tray of rice, and a half tray of black beans. Pretty incredible considering the price. When we eat in here we either choose the outdoor porch area or the tables by the counter. There is also a dining room area, but I like either being outside or sitting by the counter where you can watch the food being made. If your going on a date share one of the combo dishes. They range from 14.50-17 dollars and is more then enough to feed 2 people. Chances are you will still walk out stuffed and with leftovers. Everyone that works here is very friendly, helpful, and will make you enjoy your experience. I will agree with Ann that the food is overly salty which is not what of my attributes of food, but its not terrible. Also they don't serve alcohol so grab your beer and wine across the street at Buy Rite.

Based on three visits (take-out) the food here is good but not great; I prefer the shrimp, also the bbq chicken; but I thought the ribs were ordinary. Big portions, good sides - french fries, beans and rice. It is usually busy which makes the small dining area crowded and noisy.  Outside seating would be OK. Prices are reasonable.  If I was to BYOB at this place I would leave the wine at home and bring a six-pack of Corona.
