WOW not only is this the serenest beach around, the people are "genuinely nice"....people smiling without any reason had me quite perturbed. I'm used to nyc where you're either ignored, purposedly stared through, as if you're wearing an invisibilty cloak and don't exist, or scowled at. ha ha...okay I'm exaggerating...but nonetheless it was an eye opener. "The people" appear to be genuinely happy......it's sooo peculiar...it had me for a loop...tee hee.
like huh?? duhhhh...wha??? that was me....the whole time
del mar seems to be the most scenic area of san diego. a person can get lost just driving around there....blissful.

This beach really is a hidden gem. Very good to great surfing, seldom crowded except during the summer months, and, most of all, it has probably the CLEANEST and NICEST showers and restrooms for a public beach in SoCal!
Add to that, the locals and regulars here are genuinely nice, which took some getting used to for me. After getting married and moving to SD five years ago, my spouse, who grew up in Point Loma, said that I had to do two important things to adjust:
#1 Lose the edgy attitude one sometimes develops after living in SF for three decades.
#2 Accept the fact that people are nicer and more relaxed in SD than in the Bay Area.
My first time walking on a beach in Del Mar a lady who walked past us smiled and said Good Morning.
"What did she want?" I asked my spouse.
"She's being nice."
"Why? Does she want money?"
"No. People say hi just to be friendly."
"Is it because they're after drugs?"
"My love, you have to chill out."
"You don't think she was a hooker?"
"Stop it already."
"Gotcha."
