They have the freshest produce next to whole food. I don't think I have ever found another produce shop around this area that produces such quality fruits and vegetables. They groom their onions and produce as if it was their own child. They are constantly maintaining this place. This place and the owner of Drunken Sushi keeps this block immaculate. I am almost embarrassed that my office is not as clean as theirs and I think I have a pretty decent looking office spot.
Freshly squeezed Orange juice in the back of the store is definitely worth the money. This is not a cheap establishment but you do get what you pay for. ORANGE JUICE!!!!!

This place is only about three blocks away from my house. I come here all the time to buy fruits and veggies. Apart from being a good place to pick up produce, the staff, as I learned one fateful day, are very lovely people.
I was home sick with a cold, but there was no food in the house so I went here to pick up some stuff. I felt okay as I was walking there, but as soon as I entered the store something started feeling very wrong. I grabbed two apples from the shelf. (I had planned to do more shopping than that, but at that point I started to feel very sick.) Part of me wanted to throw down my shopping basket and run out of there, but I brought my apples to the register.
"Is that all?" the cashier asked.
"Uh-huh..."
"$1.33 please."
I opened my purse and took out my wallet. I pulled out a ten dollar bill (first bill I saw that wasn't just a one) and put it on the counter, kind of staring at it. My head felt very hot and there was a sort of pulsing feeling. I thought to myself, "I should say I don't feel very well." And then there was a bright light and silhouettes coming into focus. I realized I was lying on the floor in front of the counter. I propped myself up on my elbow, and an employee told me just to stay there and not to get up, which is a really hard thing to do when you're thinking to yourself, "OMG I'm on the floor. That's really weird. I better get up!"
A man who worked there asked for my name and how old I was. I told him, and he repeated the information to someone on the telephone. 911? Really? I sat up and gathered some things that had fallen out of my purse on my way down, then slowly stood up with the help of the store employees. They were all very kind and showed great concern for me. "Do you want to sit down? Why don't we go sit down over here?" "Do you want something to drink? Let me buy you a Coke." He brought a can of Coke over, but the store manager who made the call said, "Oh, they said not to have her drink anything." Boo. I wanted that Coke, haha. But I guess it was for the best. Yet another employee came out and brought me my apples and the change for my $10 in a plastic bag.
These guys showed genuine concern for me, and were 100% caring and helpful in every way. I don't think I could have fainted in a nicer corner store.
Thanks for taking such good care of me while I waited for the ambulance! (The apples were delicious, by the way.)

Today I have a cold and wandered all the way to the Walgreens on 19th and Geary to get some medicine. Well of course all they sell is the very basic of essentials for life. I wasn't about to get their processed O.J. because I like mine fresh to up my vitamin c.
After walking there and walking back because I kept missing the muni I decided to go into this Market. Fresh Cara Cara Oranges/Gratefruit that are so sweet and fresh. Also fresh squezed O.J. for like 8.50 for the large bottle. I needed it. So, I bought it. So fresh. Actually everything in here looks so fresh. Now, I'm back on the couch nursing my cold in comfort.

Fresh produce but you pay for the convenience of the location big time. I mean come on, 9 bucks for… Read more »
I used to come here two/three times a week when I lived in the neighborhood. Good selection of fresh produce and those little things that you need for your last minute dinner plans. Friendly people who always greet you with a smile and really mean it when they ask you "How are you today?"
I live near a chain grocery store nowadays, but it's really nothing like the little corner store. I still like to drop by there when I'm in the neighborhood and get my favorite bread and fresh fruit.

A really awesome middle ground between El Grande (cheap, but not always great) and Thom's (great, but definitely not cheap) for produce. There may be a few things missing (i.e. no orange peppers), but chances are good you'll get anything you need and can hit El Grande for anything that's missing or too expensive. As a bonus, they have selves of sauces and whatnot to save you a trip to the dreadful IGA. I scored some awesome horseradish mustard here. Also the beverage selection is better than any of the convenience stores around, and guy running it is hella friendly.
P.S. - Also love how they play dance music on weekend nights. Helps me smack my bitch up before cooking a delicious fish.

Expensive, but at least you're paying good money for good items. A great selection of fresh breads and local tortilla chips. Small produce section, which is overpriced, too, when El Grande Produce is one block away.
Overall, I go here only when I'm looking for something specific I know I'd have to drive to get otherwise.
These guys are super friendly and always helpful. Their veggies are fresh and reasonably priced for the neighbourhood and they have one of everything else you could possibly need.
For some reason though every time I go here they are blasting "Kissed a Girl" on the radio and I almost feel like that should count against them somehow. Oh well.
This place has fresher produce than Whole Foods at much better prices. Very good presentation too. The guys that work there are good people - one time I asked about how sweet their oranges were, they cut one on the spot and told me to try it.
Fresh bread is delicious.
Expect to get fleeced on beer, wine, and other grocery store stuff that you should be buying...at a grocery store!
After all, this place is a produce market. Stick to that and you'll do fine.

This place has some of the best damn orange juice I've ever had. Definitely better than Trader Joe's. Doesn't compare to Odwalla. Wherever it comes from it tastes as if it came directly from the freaking orange straight into the bottle.
Produce selection is decent if a little pricier than other places in the area, though it generally looks better too so it's a trade-off. Good ice cream selection, but no liquor so there's a trade-off too.
+1 for the orange juice.

the food is always fresh, the avocados are big and hearty it is everything you need in a grocery store,
it is way more than just your average corner store, the prices are so cheap for the fresh produce

The orange juice here, hidden in the back of the store on that ice that comes in Sno-Cones, is sweet nectar from heaven. I'm certain it's filtered through clouds and rainbows, then lovingly placed in little jugs with baby-sized handles. Flown to Earth by celestial beauties especially for you.
I wondered, with the cost of gas,Vasoline, and other petroleum products at record-highs, how this form of juicery could be afforded. That's a lot of miles, wing maintenance, cloud tolls, mist tax, etc.
The very sweet lady at the front, who is there every time we go for our good herbs, explained to me why I could never make it from the back of the store to the register without slamming half the jug. The OJ is squeezed here- sometimes twice a day, depending on demand. And it is delicious.
Perhaps a bit pricier than other markets 'round there, but they consistently offer beautiful produce. No picking through a bin to get the perfect pear, because they ALL are perfect pears. Aidell's sausages, organic cheeses, and creamery milk in glass bottles for the mucogenic lover in you. Fabulous Dutch Crunch- the kind where the Crunch is dripping off the loaf- by the register. Candy bars to tilt the scales of healthiness as you depart. What's not to love?
Mmmmmm.... Juice.

I've come in here once or twice. One one side, you have Tigers Liquors. Down the street, you have El Grande groceries. I guess you could consider this shop in between the best of both worlds. You can get your liquor and your groceries here. And a few other things, I s'pose, without having to walk to De Lano's up the street. Like a bottle of grape seed oil I bought, that I was hoping to fry some chicken with. Unfortunately, it only filled my deep fryer about a third full. Or a bag of blueberry scones sold right next to the cashier register. I took them home and they tasted like crap, really doughy texture and lacking in taste. You can skip on those. But every now and then you need something simple. Some fruit. A pack of cigarettes. A bottle of sriracha sauce. This place is as good as any.

My landlord owns this produce market. He practically owns the entire block. Not many people like their landlord, so I feel blessed to tell everyone on yelp how much my landlord RULES. He kicks a large amount of ass, for the following reasons: He let's me pay my rent weeks past due, he lets me park in the loading zone, he comes over and unclogs toilets, sinks, and does confusing man things, like flipping switches in the fuse box, or connecting red and green cables to stuff to make the stuff work. He lets me buy cigarettes and beer, even if I'm short changed. And once I bought condoms and a bottle of wine at 10am on a Saturday, and he didn't give me one weird look. And asked if I wanted matches.
But the number one reason why my landlord rules is this: In the 3 years I have lived in my apartment, I have broken 3 windows, averaging about 1 window every year. This last Friday night I broke my 4th window! My landlord has not only cleaned up the glass, but paid to fix the windows and each time said, "well, good thing you aren't hurt!"
I'm surprised I'm not homeless.
Oh, and this produce market has WAY fresher produce than El Chico down the street. You pay slightly more, but you don't get any nasty brown marks on your fruit, or mushy tomatoes.

Apparently my landlord owns this market in addition to my apartment building. I haven't met my landlord yet; but, Starla knows him well and says he's a really good guy.
Even if he weren't a good guy I would still love this little market at the corner of my street. I'm all about supporting neighborhood businesses and 25th & Clement Produce Market makes it very easy for me to do so. They are incredibly well stocked - you can pretty much do all of your grocery shopping there - the only exception is that they don't have a large selection of frozen food or fresh meats. That's okay, it makes me eat healthier. Veg is good for you. The prices are reasonable and I simply ADORE Heather (the wonderful lady who works there on a daily basis.) She is super friendly and has two dogs and bought Starla's pussies a laser pointer.
I'm happy to live in a neighborhood where I have a business like this to patronize. I may never shop at Trader Joe's or Whole Food's again... well, at least not until the next time I can't live w/out a big, raw steak. ;P

Starla's landlord owns this place. He's awfully good looking. (hint: he also owns AK subs next door and works behind the counter sometimes...YUM YUM).
Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to whine about the fact that I am on a diet stricter than the nuns at the catholic school I almost got kicked out of as a teenager. The raw diet. Not too bad until you figure out "raw" is basically uncooked fruits and vegetables and not a whole lot besides. If I liked fish, maybe I could incorporate sushi. But as it is, sushi's out too. Nut butters and hummus are about as exciting as it gets these days for me.
Luckily, this market stocks mountains of the freshest, tastiest veggies and ripest, sweetest fruits I've yet to curse under my breath, while dreaming of large pepperoni pizzas and hearty slices of meatloaf surrounded by mounds of garlic mashed potato...
But seriously, the produce here is awesome and very affordable. They also stock an impressive array of cheeses (can't eat), high end snacks like gourmet cookies and crackers (can't eat), specialty soups (can't eat), high end deli meats and prosciutto and pancetta (can't eat), and an amazing, vast variety of very well-priced olive oils (can't eat). I know they have all of these things because I have taken up wandering the aisles, eating these items with my eyes instead of my mouth. On the upside, they do have an array of nut butters (can eat), hummus (can eat), and chocolates (can't eat but do anyway).
The cashiers are always friendly and know most of the people in the neighborhood. If you live or work in the neighborhood, this should be your go-to spot for all things edible. Prices are easily less than the IGA or Thom's on Geary and they have a wider variety of organic and non-organic items than the other markets in the area.

Great corner store for picking up reasonably priced produce or other random stuff like ice cream, a 32 oz of beer, a soda, pita. The guys that work the register are nice too.
I miss this corner store so much - I have moved from 1 block away to 15 blocks away.
The produce here is in such good shape and overall they have GREAT prices! I love that I could come here and get a whole meal: wine, bread and Ben & Jerry's pint included - a definite one-stop shop.
sniff, sniff - I miss you 25th & Clement Produce Market.

This is my all-time favorite place to buy produce - it's so fresh and so reasonably priced, I just love it. Whole Foods is the only place that can hold a candle to 25th and Clement (except maybe the farmer's market), and as much as I love WF there's no way I can shop there as often without breaking the bank!
Another former neighborhood spot. I absolutely love this place. Enough that even I live 2 miles away, I will still shop here if in the neighborhood.
I can't believe how cheap the produce is. I would walk out with 2 huge bags of produce and they'd say, "$11.39 please" Then I'd fall over and say, "WHAT?!?!? I LOVE YOU! Can I marry this place like Pee Wee Herman married a PB&J???"
There are also lots of other necessities here. I can't remember ever coming here and not found something I needed. Their regular stuff is pretty regular priced. Beer is expensive but good wine can be found cheap.

Unfortunately I do most of my grocery shopping at 3am and Cala foods is the only place that caters to that part of my lifestyle. This usually means I get horrible produce for embarrassing prices.
But when I get off my ass, and get something done in the daylight hours, I get exquisite fruit and veggies for good prices at 25th & Clement.

The 25th market is not as expensive as most of the other grocery stores in the area. It is my favorite little market to stop in and grab some fresh veggies and fruit.
Everything here is so clean and efficient. I always come here if I'm missing an ingredient for a recipe, or if I want some green beans to go along with my pasta. The best thing about this place is that you don't have to worry about brown bananas, moldy raspberries, or sour milk; everything is of the highest quality. It is expensive relative to other independent markets, but shopping here is just so EASY that it's worth the extra dollar or so per shopping trip.
I especially like their fresh vegetables: the green beans, the mushrooms, the carrots, parsley, MINT, lettuce, cabbage, etc. If I see apples and oranges cheaper at El Chico down the street, I might buy them there, but I'll always buy vegetables at 25th and Clement.

Fantastic produce! A little pricey but still cheaper and higher quality than the 24 hour grocery store down the street that keeps changing it's name. Organic and conventional options.
Also, I'm terrible at choosing melons and I love melons. Luckily the guys that work there are always willing to help me. So far, every melon that they have picked up for me has been quality.
The rest of the store is very expensive but great if you need to pick up something quick (pastas, canned foods, etc.).
Update: I am coming back here more and more, now that 6001 California is declining. Still fresh and clean. They have heirlooms for $2.99, 6001 doesn't have any.

I hadn't thought to yelp the produce market, but it is a staple in our lives. Why? They are consistent in quality and hours. Fair prices and for a small store, you can get almost everything you need. We walk past El Chico to get here. At El Chico, the staff is sullen, sad. On 25th, they are cheerful and polite. El Chico is where produce goes to die.
If you find the russian delis in these parts a bit confounding, you can always fall back on this classic produce closet. The goods here looked top-notch (perhaps, as Jen D notes, owing to their impeccable organization). I also found some sweet pita bread (rare for a non-ethnic store). Naturally, this is one of those "if you're in the area" places, as most neighborhoods have their own equally-good equivalent.

Being only two blocks from my apartment, this market quickly became one of my tried and true places for produce when I moved to the Outer Richmond last year. The produce is pretty good and very reasonably priced (provided you are buying in-season) and the staff is friendly and helpful. As others have noted, the groceries themselves aren't inexpensive, but it's good in a pinch for last-minute items.
Excellent produce! You will not, or at least I cannot do the majority of my shopping here but I can pick up some of the best produce in the City here. Just got some killer oranges and apples. And no need to travel to Whole Foods and fight the crowds!
Also a great place to pick up a pint of Ben and Jerry's and Beer. You know the necessities of life fruit, beer and Ben and Jerry's!

Great little neighborhood produce store and worth it for me to walk the 6 blocks. For such a small shop they carry a ton. The selection is really good from veggies and fruits (always at a good quality) to cheese to spices and pastas. I know that if I forget something from my "big" grocery run I can always head ove rhere and find it. The people who work there are also very nice.

Funny story that happen almost 8 years ago in high school. My friends and I were walking down to clement from geary st. on 25th ave one day to take the 29 bus to stonestown. In between geary and clement, a punk kid and his friends SPIT water and juice onto two of my friends head from above apartment and it was a lot for no reason at all. We didn't even notice them until it occurred. Well this is where 25th clement produce comes in. We were so angry we decided to set a trap for them to come back from their hiding spot to hit there next target from above. As they came out we decided to hit him with a bunch of raw eggs to teach them a lesson. Well we didn't want a full dozen of eggs only half, so the worker there hooked us up and cut a box of dozen in half for us. I thought that was truly a nice lady. Operation egg the jerk was a success!!!

We've been coming here for a couple years now, but, oddly enough, have only recently realized how friendly everyone is there. I always ask them which fruits are good, since I suck at picking produce, and though I've had a couple weird peaches (it's the end of the peach season, though) they are more than happy to cut open melons and any other fruit to show you that they're not all gross inside. Last time, they gave me such huge slabs of their yellow+white peaches+nectarines that I had to stand around eating them all for 5 minutes before I could actually buy anything. And they don't get upset when you pay in pennies.

i come here for all my produce needs. 25th & clement produce market has the best quality produce for a great deal. avacados are generally way below average supermarket prices and their oranges are always the juiciest. OH! you have to try the freshly squeezed orange juice that they sell. it's the new crack.
the employees are the nicest guys and always willing to help you find things or recommend other stores where you can find products that they dont carry. just an all around great store thats going to get my business as long as i live here :)

The 25th & Clement market wonderful little produce market. It doesn't have the selection or the low prices of the El Chico Market down the street, but what it lacks there it makes up for in quality and ... arrangement. All of the produce looks gorgeous because it's stacked and arranged in such a nice way. All of the melons/fruits/vegetables look like artwork in a weird way. And you know you aren't going to get mushy/bruised stuff here - so sometimes it's worth paying a bit extra for (on more than one occasion I haven't bought brusied/old produce from El Chico and come here to find top-quality stuff). And even at that, it's still reasonable compared to some of the big markets. If you're in the neighborhood and need some fresh fruit or vegetables, it's worth popping in here.
Living in the Richmond you have a lot of competing produce stores that offer low prices- it takes a while to figure out which ones have consistently good quality produce and which ones are a fluke. 25 & Clement always has good stuff, so I never mind paying a little more to be sure that when I split that avocado open it's going to be fresh and green (not mushy and brown). Plus- have you tried the bread?! There is one loaf of bread (right next to the check out counter) that they get delivered from some bakery daily and IT IS HEAVEN. If for nothing else, go for the bread!
Everything you need to cook a meal plus cider $2 cheaper than the liquor store across the street. There is a $10 minimum on credit cards and a $0.50 charge on debit.
I prefer the mom and pop type grocery stores to the chain stores. This place has fresh fruits and at decent prices to compete against the chains.
I had to buy a toothbrush and the only one they had was probably five years old (maybe older), but at a cheap price (under $2). It's fault for buying a toothbrush at a produce store. Cherries were awesome there.
I come here every once in a while. They have really good produce, but that's about it. I wish they had a larger selection of other foods. But, the produce is a lot better than any of the other markets around.
this place is a joke compared to 6001 california market just a short walk away. I only come here when I have to. ie. when 6001 is closed.
Great little store. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, good selection given the size. Produce is usually high-quality although leafy greens are sometimes of questionable pedigree.
