I stayed at 254 East Vacation over President's Day weekend. I recommend this hotel if you are an easy-going traveler who doesn't need a lot from hotel staff. As the other reviewer mentioned, this is a converted apartment building, so a stay here feels almost like a house-swap. There is no front desk and check-in consists of simply getting the door code prior to your arrival, walking up to your unlocked apt and picking up your keys. Checking out is kind of similar but in reverse.
I chose this hotel because of its location (very close to my daughter's apartment) and I was very pleased with my choice.
Things I think you should know if you're thinking of staying here:
It is a walk-up. If stairs are a problem you should request a place on a lower floor. We were on the 4th floor which was really only an issue on arrival and departure (like many NYC apts, the hallway/stairway is pretty narrow).
It was very clean and well-maintained. My apt bedroom had the precautionary bedbug mattress covers, there was sufficient storage and space to feel comfortable when spending time in the room.
The kitchen is studio sized and decently outfitted with cookware and table settings, so perfectly adequate for basic cooking.
As they inform you right on the website, there is free wi-fi but it is only available in the downstairs hallway, so I never used it.
The location is great even if you don't have family just a few blocks away. We walked to Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There was a subway stop 5 blocks away and tons of great places to shop and eat in the immediate neighborhood (see my review of Candle79 for my hands down favorite). I also liked Spice which was a half-block from the hotel!
All in all, as long as you can live without front desk and housekeeping amenities, this is a great and reasonably priced hotel. -

OK, so I looked at about a million hotels in NY before booking this one. It's close to impossible to find a halfway decent room for under $150 a night unless you want to share a bathroom (call me a paranoid germaphobe but i do not) --especially if you're booking for 3 adults.
So I run across East Vacation which was an apartment building converted into a hotel so it feels like you're house-sitting someone's place while you're there.
We ended up booking the Loft suite which was very quirky and random but not without charm. It's set up like this: It's a long skiny place with high ceilings. At one end is the couch/foldout bed with side tables, a large ottoman/coffee table and small TV. At the other end is a set of stairs going up to a nook that's pretty close the ceiling and has just enough room for a queen sized matress with another small TV recessed into a nook. In between is a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and various pots/pans/glasses and utensils --also a little counter with stools to eat at. The low-ceilinged bathroom is tucked in under the loft bed. Almost all the storage is accessible by climbing a ladder to a set of mirrored cabinets above the kitchen. The ladder rolls and is attached to a track like in a fancy library room. (you'll see in the pictures)
All the appliances were fairly new and nice and the bed was fluffy. There was no cable (which irked the boys but was fine with me cuz it forced us out of the room to find entertainment) And the internet connection was slow and spotty at best.
One of the best things about staying here was that we felt like we were part of the neighborhood. It was a nice mix of big residential apartment buildings with tons of restaurants and small stores on the ground level. It was a treasure trove of eats and within walking distance of so much more eating and shopping.
We were on the ground floor at the front of the building but there was very little street noise since E. Vacation is kind of on a side street off the main drag that is 3rd. It was hard to identify it that first night because there's no really clear signage or building number but we figured it out since eveything else on the block was a house.
It was unseasonably cool when we went so we did ok but the AC was all the way over near the couch so if it was really hot weather that loft bed would be sweltering I'm sure.
All in all it was a good stay in a great neighborhood. -

Very rude and extremely harsh on phone forget what he is like once you arrive...stay clear of this place..and I work in the hotel industry...I would never send anyone there even if it was the last hotel available. Danny needs to speak properly and get some manners.
