We were in the mood for brunch and decided this was the perfect time to teach our 2 5 year olds about eating in a nice restaurant.

240 Union has always been a place for an elusive date night drink and I was delighted to discover that they are serving brunch now!

The highlight of our meal was the Deviled Eggs and the inexpensive Mimosas.  Don't order orange juice for your kids.....it's cheaper to order them a mimosa. I'm not kidding.

The Blueberry Pancakes, Egg on Brioche and Key Lime Pie were all very good.  I'm anxious to try more items on the menu and next time I'll take a shot of the AquaNet in the ladies room.

Where else can you go and see old man Coors himself?  I love 240.  The salmon was perfect, simply grilled.  Wine list is on the boring side but so what...I still LOVE this place.  Service is typically good to excellent.

You get what you pay for....I wonder if their chef is a big deal kind of guy?  Denver doesn't seem to give enough focus on the men and women creating the magic.  The chicken had a sauce mixed with spinach and cabbage.  To die for!  Maybe the best I've ever had.

The gentleman who owns 240 was the late Noel Cunningham's partner, business partner that is.  Strange world we live in.  Pass on some smiles and positive vibes please.  Never know when that little gesture can make or break someones day.

    Cheers!

Can't believe that I grew up in Evergreen and Wheat Ridge and I have NEVER been here!  Well - no longer!  For my 41st birthday my best friend took me to dinner at 240 Union and I got the most decadent thing I could find - Country Fried Lobster - with green beans and an amazing cream sauce, started off with beet salad with goat cheese, and finished with Toffee Turtle Pudding with carmel sauce.  Delicious!  The service was great - for my birthday desert came with a candle and without a charge.  Class place - so sad I didn't find it soon - will DEFINATELY be back!!

I have been here 2 times. Decor is a bit out dated. Looks like a high class place from the 80's. Great wine selection...however the bartenders obviously make enough money to not worry about welcoming new guests. The one issue I had was seeing a chef walk on to line while tucking in his shirt (hands down the pants), wiping his nose with his hands, and then continuing on to work with food. With an open kitchen, actions like this are very concerning to guests. Bad mouthing regular guests is also a turn off. Experience here has potential...bit needs work.

We had dinner there pretty late the other night, we could tell the staff was ready to call it a night....however, they were very professional, served us with efficiency.  The mussels were not the best I've ever had (small and a bit over done), but the portion size was excellent.  I think if we were there earlier they would have been fine.  We also had salmon and it was very good.
We'll go back when on that side of town again.

The new summer menu is out and it really good!!!

We came in for a business lunch and as always the service was prompt. Everyone in my party had something different. I has the Cod with a tomato and summer veggie broth with a lemon cream sauce. The fish was crisp on the outside and nice and warm on the inside. The broth was by far my favorite part I wish I could take a bath in it. Ok well maybe not that far.

My colleges had the skirt steak which I believe was updated from the spring menu by the time I had a chance to look at his plate his food was gone my guess he liked it! The other had the classic burger which has been on the menu for years for a reason.

So overall still one my favorite places to eat, they are getting a face lift right now so parking was odd. But should look great when done!

I received a gird card to this place so I tried it and was very impressed.  I also felt very out of place because I'm just a poor college student, and the rest of the customers were older business people.  I don't think I will go back unless I receive another gift card.

On a blistery recent Friday evening, we decided to have an appetizer at 240 Union (I have enjoyed very fine dinners in the past) and sip wine at the comfy bar with pro type bartenders. We settled for the crab cakes and were totally shocked with the small size-good flavor but about 1/3 the size of most crab cakes. Upon confronting the bartender, he merely mentioned the taste far outweighed the size (I thought about hiring him for my commodity trading team). Very crispy, light breading, lots of lump crab meat yet just a few bites for $13. So, we decided to develop a top 10 list of names for these tiny bites-

    Crab Minatures
    Crab Buttons
    Crab M and Ms
    Crab Cake Bites
    Male Crab Cakes
    Hey you-almost a Crab Cake!
    Tiny Town Crab Cakes
    Silver Dollar Crab Cakes
    Tapas Crab Cakes
    Son of Crab Cakes

The crab cakes are a real rip-off for the price, and I don't recommend them unless you are dieting.

I came here for a company dinner the other night. It's conveniently located across the street from my new gig in a strip mall that houses other restaurants/shops.

The first, and only thing that caught my eye was the Chicken Fried Lobster Tail. WHA? Fried and Lobster in the same sentence? I went ahead and ordered this with a small hearts of romaine salad (w/o anchovies).  I was expecting more from this dish. The fried actually took away from the tender lobster taste. This would have been much better without the breading, but then if that was the case you couldn't have called this dish chicken fried in the first place.

We tried other things like the calamari, which, I do not normally eat, but it was suprisingly good here. It was served with fried green beans and jalapenos all tossed in a sweet chili sauce. Superb!

I'd come back again, but won't be getting the lobster tail again!

240 Union's "Chicken Fried Lobster Tail" was listed as a top 100 must eat in Denver, so I gave it a shot:

    Rating: 7.8 (out of 10)

    Price: $26

The Skinny: Could anything sound better?  Simultaneously invoking the thought of crispy fried chicken and delicate, moist lobster - this dish promises much and nearly delivers it.  The crust is what you've come to expect from anything chicken fried - golden, ruffled, and crisp.  The lobster inside was cooked very well - soft and tender, yet firm enough to stand up to the crisp shell.  And the tarragon sauce was genuinely fantastic.

So... why not a higher rating?  Well, although on their own, the components were executed very well, the issue was that when you combined them, it was a little like simply eating a wonderful piece of fried chicken.  For me, the shell overpowered the subtle and delicate flavor of the lobster tail, giving you a feel only for the tenderness, and missing out on everything else.  Having the feeling of eating a terrific piece of fried chicken is nothing to complain about, mind you, but it doesn't quite make it to the lofty standard that the description implies.  Still a really excellent dish - and I cannot say enough about the delicious tarragon sauce.  I want to put it in my cereal.

I've got a picture of the dish up on the blog in my profile

I've got to differ a bit on this one from the prior reviews. The food is excellent, and I have never been disappointed by their seafood creations.  Food-wise, it's contemporary american, with a bias to seafood dishes. Add a little kick with fun items like the lobster corn dogs and its undeniably a solid, quality kitchen.

My issue is the atmosphere.  Perhaps I eat at the bar too much where their smoke ventilation is damn awful, or perhaps it is the just-plain-weird mish-mash of (really) bad art on the walls but I simply don't enjoy the ambience of the place.   That and the fact that the setting is strip mall based in a fairly uninspiring part of town (apologies to the Green Mountain crowd) and it just can't get past 3 stars in my books.

Beautiful restaurant on the west end of Denver metro against the mountains. 240 Union has been a favorite of mine for many years, and I always make a point visit each time I am back in town, and the management always remembers me by name!  The service is great, even one time when we couldn't make it until late on a week night and ate at the bar, the bartender was very accomodating and helpful regarding the large wine list.

The ambiance is fantastic with several different rooms to suite the mood you are looking for.... (the wineroom, the enclosed patio, the larger private room, the main room with views of the open kitchen with wood grill and skylights, and the bar/ lounge) but like a previous review said it can be noisy. It is a popular place (paricularly around the holidays with company parties) so if you are aiming for a quieter time, try weeknights or try for an early dinner right when they open around 5pm.

The food is FABULOUS!! They now have a fantastic happy hour and are also serving Sunday Brunch... I can't wait to try it!
    Highly recommended!

    LUNCH: weekdays only
    DINNER: 7 nights a week
RESERVATIONS: not required by highly recommended
DRESS CODE: there really isn't one, but most people are a little dressy or coming from work.

The ambience, service and decor in this restaurant is delightful. Overall, I thought the food was quality. We shared the Calamari and I had the Lobster Melt. The Calamari was unique with the green beans and jalapenos but the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. Definitely order to this to share because of it's richness. The Lobster Melt was good because it had thick cut crispy bacon on top and it is lobster, so of course it was good but it was too heavy for me. The lobster was drenched in mayo and then melted cheese, so I couldn't taste the lobster and it was way too rich. I only finished half of my plate. The wine list here is quality and the service was good. I will go again but try something else next time....OH and we shared the key lime pie for dessert and it was delish.

This was the one spot I actually did make it to during 5280 last time around and i was so glad I did!  I wasn't really sure what to expect, for someone once mentioned to me that it was "really nice" and I never quite know what that means.  I'm not much for getting all dressed up to go out to dinner, but more of a look nice and be comfortable at the same time kind of gal.  I figured I'd meet those 2 in the middle and give it a try.  "Really nice" was definitely right, and in a very good way!  To sum it up into one word: Quality.  However, how fun would it be if that's all I said about this place:) The upkeep of the restaurant is good and the staff is very pleasant and on top of things.  We were greeted immediately and sat in the back where the dining room splits off a bit.  Now I know it has been a while since our experience here, but we'll never forget our server.  She was very upbeat and positive and outgoing and funny.  She made a comment about drinking our wine with us and was very smily the entire meal.  I do have to be honest and say that I don't remember exactly what we ate, but I do remember one dish being a steak and the other ?????  However, I can tell you, I did not forget how happy we were when we left.  We absolutely had a blast and enjoyed every bight!  We talked in the car about how delicious the entrees were and how this was such a "nice" place to go.  I do think that on a normal night, this might be a little bit pricier than what we usually do for our dining out (which is probably why I did 4 stars and not 5), but we will definitely be back when we are ready to slightly splurge on another awesome dinner out.  We do like to have our spots for the quick eat and the loud nights out, and then of course for celebrating or special date evenings.  So this would fall into the latter of the categories.

DEFINITELY TRY THIS SPOT OUT.  IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO GO!

OK, this place bills itself as upscale, great fish, a lineage from fine restauraneurs of Denver. For this, we paid alot of money and got  mediocre to bad fare. The best looking item on the menu was "sold out" at 6:3pm, baked striped bass...Hmm..that was fishy, way too early to sell out on a Sat. night.  So, alternative, grilled Atlantic cod, have had many times, should be moist, white fish, no fishy taste...WRONG! dry and very fishy, not a good sign. One of us had salmon, it was OK, but salmon is a no brainer in most places. The fish tostada was on a hard, fried corn tortilla, Rubio's has better fish tacos....for alot less and with less grease. The dessert, a chocolate moussy cake was undistinguished. Save money, save gas, avoid 240 Union.

Relaxing, upscale atmosphere + reliable food. This is your go-to spot for business meals in Lakewood. On this visit, I had the chicken waldorf salad. It arrived on a bed of nice butter lettuce. But the salad seemed to include  an odd seasoning that detracted from its taste -- I would have preferred more fruit with it also. The service was prompt and courteous, as always.

Came back after a bit of a  hiatus, since I don't live on this end of town. Calamari was OK to share, as the sauce, what little there was, was a bit on the sweet side, would have liked a bit more, along with some heat. Good idea to mix in some fried jalapenos and green beans but try and break them up in the fryer so we don't have a large lump to break up at the table. Mahi-Mahi was the fish of the night and very delicious. That being said, I ordered the seasonal swordfish which had no flavor, served on a blah slaw. Should have stuck with the pork chop, which they do beautifully there. By the way, to the waiter who said "If you like the pork chop, something similar that you would like would be the Cioppino." I may like it but I'm still trying to figure the direct correlation between a piece of grilled pork and a seafood stew.

We recently had our 3rd and last dinner at 240 Union...so unfortunate, as we're often on the West Side and need a regular spot.
The restaurant itself is awesome -- very me.  Cool, hip looking dining area with an exposed stainless kitchen.  I like the covered patio.  Even though it overlooks the parking lot, they've managed to make the space romantic and inviting.

The problems lie with the food and service -- neither are consistent.
Our 1st dinner, a late Friday night, we had an excellent tasting meal, perfectly prepared...however, the waiter tried his best to throw cold water on our experience ( that's my attempt at a pun as the waiter disappeared, and we served ourselves water from a pitcher sitting on a bus station)  We were obviously being punished for arriving right before closing.  Just as we arrived, the last of the customers were leaving, and instead of telling us they were closed, the gentleman (possibly owner or manager) seated us.  I would have preferred to try them another night versus being rushed through ordering, and eating.  The waiter made no attempt at hiding his displeasure at us being there, so while the food was good, our experience wasn't so good.
The 2nd time was earlier.  The woman serving us was terrific.  Even though she was busy, she brought over 2 wines for me to try.  Unfortunately, the fish dish we wanted was sold out, and we went with a veal dish.  I subbed out veggies for the starch, and winded up with 3 snap peas and a few asparagus with about 3 ounces of overcooked veal medallions atop.
This last time was the worst.  We both ordered the Rib Eye -- the absolute worst tasting piece of meat I've ever had, and one of the most expensive at close to $40.  It was just a sin.  No more than 10 Oz's, grizzle and visible fat all around, without even a sear mark.
    --  It looked gray
If I ever wanted to send something back it was that.
Oh well...another restaurant  bites the dust
