I was actually working in the office building last week and was excited to see that the local 24 Hour Fitness was located right in the base of the building.

Yes, it's a very small gym and they definitely crammed it into the available space at the base of this office building. In fact it's interesting to walk around, because it seems like around every corner there is another room full of equipment and the Group X room is actually up the elevator on a different floor.

However, despite being fairly small and the fact that I was there just after the New Year on a Wednesday night, which meant it was very crowded, I did not have to wait at all for the different machines which tells me that it would be perfectly fine once the New Year's Resolutionaries give up and it's just us gym rats.

As for the parking, I can see how it would be pretty crowded. We had actually parked in the same lot while working in the same building all day, so rather than driving back to the gym, I decided to avoid the whole thing and just add a few miles to my workout by running from my hotel.

I do wish they had more classes available in the Group X room, but you may see me at the Tuesday night Body Pump next time I am working in Walnut Creek.

Overall, this was a nice place to get a workout and while I don't know how it compares to other gyms in the area, it was definitely much better than the typical exercise room at a hotel.

I was a long time member at the 24 hour San Mateo sport, but decided to try this location out since it's close to work.  This WC gym is clean and well maintained, but small and a little cramped.  Being an active type club they do not offer the variety and number of classes that a Sport club offers which was a big downer for me.  The instructors are good but the atmosphere doesn't seem to be as challenging as the San Mateo location, although the place is less crowded when I've been there which is a plus.

Tip: park at Bart if you go on the weekends to avoid the charge in attached lot.

Nice gym.  Nothing fancy.  Decent amount of weights, multiple benching stations, and ample machines.  What I like about the location, besides the hot girl at the front desk, is the fact that they have individual shower stalls in the bathroom, plus have new lockers, the same ones in the SuperSport gyms.  This location actually reminded me of one of the 24 hour locations in the fidi of SF.  Only downside to this location is that the parking blows, hence the 4 stars.  I'll definitely return when I'm in the WC again.

I'd slap this place with a 1-star rating if it wasn't so darn cheap.

This, undoubtedly, is one of the worst gyms I've ever worked out in. It's overcrowded with douche, unventilated, lacking equipment and has some of the most unfriendly and incompetent staff I've ever seen.

The guy who sold me my membership (Nick, I believe) was not only a crappy salesman, but has been rude each and every time I've walked into the gym. He actually sold me a $40/month membership and then I went home and found out I could have gotten one for $30. Way to be straight up with me, guy.

Since it is so cheap, I'll continue with this place. But I dread going to the gym - for a myriad of reasons.

I think everybody agree that there are some parking difficulties during the peak hours and it does get crowded at times.  Therefore if a member chooses to go there during peak hours, then they'd need to have the expectation for these shortcomings.

I am trying to put myself in their shoes here....but have you been kicked out of a workout area??

There is a U shaped area across from the bathroom that is somewhat separated from rest of the gym.  Ever since they remodeled to "expand workout area", that spot is often blocked off during peak hours for personal trainers.  In the recent weeks, those "do not enter" signs and orange cones have been removed due to members' complaints for limiting workout areas in what's already a small gym.

While working out in that area the other day at 7pm, I was asked "Do you mind to finish your rep and come back in 20 minutes to work out in this area?".  You can't be serious, because
    1)  we all pay the same membership fees and you can't just tell us to get lost to come back later
    2)  If crowd is an issue then 24 Hr should not have enrolled so many members, where there is no space for people to fully exercise (which is what the gym membership is for, right?)
    3)  the remodel doesn't benefit us because it actually makes our workout space smaller during busy hours.

"This area was designed for use by members working with personal trainers.  While ALL members are welcome to use the equipment, we request that trainers and their clients be given priority"- Sign by the entrance.

PS-  They really need to fix the incline function on the workout machines.  For some reason when input incline setting on 1 or 2, the machine eventually goes to -1or -2.  It's actually quite hazardous if you ask me.

I had to pay $6.00 for parking to workout for an hour and a half. That seems ridiculous to me. Sure, they validate for the first 20 minutes - wooptie doo! There's some parking on the street but they're full most of the time and/or metered. I'm quite sure it's not the gym's fault, but members shouldn't have to pay for parking to workout.

As for the gym itself, it's pretty quiet. I don't come during rush hour so I don't know how crowded it gets. Everybody there is pretty focused.
I give this place one star for parking situation but 3 1/2 overall.

Clean location, which is a lot already for 24hr fitness to accomplish. They also seriously need to look into reclassifying their gyms. This being an Active, it didn't have a pool, spa, or steam room. Most of the other Actives do. There is proper ventilation both on the floor, and in the locker rooms, which sadly has to be the advantage over other locations.

Parking is a challenge. You'll have to pay for the underground structure inside the office building the gym is attached to (there may be hours when it's free). Not much street parking, all metered (not sure on time limit). It is, however, 1 block away from the BART. Convenient for commuters to grab a workout before driving home.

I see a lot of reviewers who hate on this gym, but honestly, this is one of the nicer 24 Hour Fitness centers I've been to in the Bay Area. Yeah, it's kind of small and thus, it gets crowded sometimes. But it's pretty clean and the equipment and weights are relatively new. I'll stick to the company line and say that parking can be tough sometimes, but I used to go to the Berkeley location, and during peak hours, parking there was probably the worst thing ever since you have to fight for spots with the old people who are going to the theater across the street, as well as the hippies going to some jam band music concert at the place next door.

Wait, sorry... which 24 am I reviewing again? Oh, right. Walnut Creek. Anyway, I'm a fan of this gym. As a heads up, you will feel like you are trapped in some pseudo-version of Real Housewives, but I guess that can be a plus or a minus, depending on what you're into.

Very small, good for a quickie work out and I'm sure the staff and classes are great..however, I won't go back because I don't have the patience for the parking situation. You either gotta pay to park in the garage (DUMBBB), or scrounge for a spot on the street..which is always full. Bummer.

Parking is rough if you come during the day.
Mon-Fri parking garage is free after 5pm. It closes at 9pm but as long as you park before 9pm you can still exit after 9pm.

weights and machines are pretty busy during 8-9:30pm in my experience
I sometimes have to wait a while to get the machines I want.
This club lacks some of machines and equipment i want which is very disappointing.

This place is great compared to some other 24 hrs I've been to.  The only drawback is the parking.  There's not a lot of street parking and the inside garage is a small.  I think they only validate for an hour.  Anyways, the place has lots of equipment and machines, the changing rooms are large, the showers are hot.  Come on the weekends for easier parking and you're good to go.  There's a Bank of the West across the street which is closed on Sat and Sun.

I have been a member of this gym for a little over a year now. I really like the friendly staff at this particular location. Every time I walk in, I am proptly greated and told to "enjoy my workout." That adds a nice little touch believe it or not.

I used to go to the Concord location near the mall but found it to be way too crowded. This one can get crowded too, espeically around peak hours between 6-8, but way less so than the Concord location.

I like that when you come here, you can focus on your work outs and not be too distracted. Everyone seems pretty focused on what they are doing. I have been some places where it seems more like a club than a gym, with everyone trying to socialize the whole time and impress one another. Girls who wear make up and do their hair for the gym? Ummm, can you say trying too hard? I dont see too many of those here tho.

I really like being inspired by people who are in better shape than me. And when you see other people working out regularly it gets you motivated.

This gym is pretty cool and the membership is not that expensive. I only give it 4 stars because it is pretty small. If you want to go to a bigger location, you can try the Concord one, or the new super sport location in Pleasanton. But I like this location the best anyways.

The guy was really nice and printed it out for me. Fast forward: couple days later I bring my husband in and he has a free trial. This time a different person was there. He refused to print it out for us. I told him they did it for me and he refused. Fucking lame! Don't they want business?

This place is very clean. The kids gym is open during the times I need it to be. I only do the stairs, crunches and leg lifts with free weights so, I've never had to wait for a machine between 5pm and 6pm. Im out of there by 730ish so, all goes well. I only take away one star because I agree with everyone else that parking can be difficult. I park after 5 for free in the parking garage. Weekends, I park at bart and go between 9 and 11am.  My daughter LOVES the kids gym. We havent gone in a few months because I've been moving but, I look forward to getting back in routine.

I workout in the early morning 5-7 am and during these hours there are people in the gym but not too many. When I've been during the busier hours this place gets packed and annoying.

    Pros:

-Plenty of free weights, benches, and machines
-Lots of cardio stuff if you use that
-Equipment is not new or old...everything works fine
-Reasonable amount of people during off hours

    Cons:
    -Only 1 squat rack
-No decline bench press even though they have 3 regular and 2 incline
-Weights are almost never racked correctly
    -Extremely busy during peak hours

I'm afraid this particular 24 Hour Fitness has gone even more downhill...even with their renovations of which they closed down this gym for a month with hardly any notice (they still showed an online schedule of classes throughout the month of December), it was hardly worth it.  They removed classes without notice when the gym reopened and when I made written complaints, the Group X Director, Lauren Weir claimed that both of numbers had busy signals.  Funny, since both of my numbers come complete with call waiting and separate voicemails for other calls and I wasn't on my phone nor show any missed calls.

It took 3 e-mails for someone to actually e-mail me back.  The gym is small and very crowded plus they plant promotional tables to sell additional PT packages, etc in the middle of your path to the front desk to check in.  I have a super club membership so thankfully I'm not stuck with this lackluster excuse of a gym but still, it makes me consider joining UFC or Crunch Fitness instead.  The way the corporate treats their members and their staff leaves a lot to be desired.

Gym wise it's okay, but for a town like Walnut Creek it is pretty below expectations.

I have never seen a 24 without a parking lot until I moved to Walnut Creek. Plus the hours I work out the parking garage is typically either closed(yes that garage closes) or full. Before here I used to spend a lot of money at 24 else where getting supplements after workouts, but here I just go to Target down the street. I work out 3-4 times a week, you do the math 24 how much money you are losing.

I don't care if it's not in a centrally located area, move to a location with parking lot.

The facilities are clean and the equipment is always in good working order. I wish they had at least one more squat/power rack because there always seems to be a logjam there.
Childcare facilities are second to none. I can't speak for the personal training, but they always have people getting worked over whenever I'm in there.
I am excited for the grand opening/remodel that will be completed in a couple days.
Can we have some paper towels in the bathroom, please? The hand dryers just don't do the job.
Parking is a problem if you don't work, locally. You may have to circle the block a few times in order to find a free meter (and you'll have to pay to park).

A lot of people are trashing this facility - but for the money I pay for a gym membership, it's in the higher tier of 24 Hr Fitness Active Clubs.  Clearly they recently remodeled.  They have crowded a bunch of machines into the space.  Yes, they do have tables set up to sell promotional material.  I've not been to Crunch or Club One - I know they are a lot more expensinve than 24 Hr.  Maybe they are a lot better ... but somehow, I doubt it.  I have tried out a Gold's Gym, and I didn't get what the big deal was.  Bottom line - usually the locations of 24 Hr Fitness are in places where real estate is expensive, and the GM's are pushed to maximize their profits.

My 'home' gym is 24 Hour Fitness on Webster, in downtown Oakland.

In my experience (Friday afternoon, 2:30 pm), the people at the front desk are friendly (when I called and spoke with Xavier to ask WTH people parked, he explained that the garage costs $1 for 20 minutes during the day (wtf - I mean, this IS Walnut Creek, not SF!) and that they validate the first 20 minutes.  He apologized and said the only other option is the street (metered) parking.  BEWARE - some of the meters are 30 minute, some 1 Hr., but I found some 2 hr meters.  His manner on the phone diffused my aggravation by showing some understanding of my frustration - good job!

The place was clean, including the men's locker room (a pet peeve of mine, one that the 24 Hr Fitness on Webster and Alameda St locations could certainly improve on).  The shower heads are those cheap Motel 6 shower heads, either.

Weights were mostly racked (as opposed to the previously mentioned 24 Hour Fitness locations (another pet peeve!  I just don't understand why guys can't re-rack their weights - crimony, your mother doesn't work here!!).

On the down-side, it is an Active Sports Club, which means no sauna or hot tub.  Parking is a bitch.  Crowded floor layout in the most areas.

Okay, so after the remodel, I'm giving back a star. Since I only go there for the Group-X, I am a big fan of the remodel they did to the Group-X room. Hooray, no more skanky carpet. Love the nice new wood floors and finally feel like I'm not killing my knees on that stupid old carpeting. I would say since Lauren took over as manager for the Group-X program, things have improved. There are less "no-show" instructors for classes and she's added some interesting classes to the schedule that mix things up a bit. I WOULD have bumped it to 4 stars expect for a few things that still aren't quite right:

1.) They got new weights and steps for the room but no new spin bikes! The ones that are there are in pretty poor shape. Get some ones like the ones in Concord!
2.) Still no Sunday classes. Hey get Asha or another instructor to teach Spin or Kickboxing on Sunday. There are cool classes in Concord on a Sunday but it would be nice to have the option going somewhere closer to home on Sunday. I mean, HEY, you've got the nice new room, so use it!

Keep staying on the right track, Walnut Creek. It's getting better!

The only reason why I come to this location is that it's right across the street from my office, which makes it really convenient after work.

This place was recently remodeled, but you can only tell if you go into the locker room.  The men's locker room used to be a dump but now looks decent.  There are showers with doors now!

Unfortunately, they didn't replace the equipment during the remodel.  They added a few tv's.  However, that's annoying because the people who work there can't change the channels on these new tv's.  It seems like sometimes they're able to change it and sometimes they aren't.  I can't really explain it.

Around 6 pm, this place gets pretty packed around the cardio equipment.  The weights area gets busy as well but generally you can rotate around to find a machine or weight to use.  The free weights area gets really cramped at this time so be careful no one drops a dumbbell on you!

This place isn't the best, but people should understand that this is an active location and not a super sport or sport.  You get what you pay for.

Shout out to Joe for helping me use my gravity boots for the first time.  Also I stopped going to this gym for about a year or more and recently started up again, and they've done a nice job on the remodel.   The locker room is much improved.  Good staff, busy smart trainers, and enough regulars to establish a rapport over time.  As for the parking, I walk over, so I don't have any comments, other than to say that when the Bart track construction and the Dorito Brothers Volkswagen construction is complete, things will get a bit better.  For the value / price / amenities vs. the competition I would say that even if you paid for parking every day in the nearby garage, you are still ahead dollar wise.

They recently remodeled and at least the women's locker room is a lot nicer. I don't use the showers, but they were really gross before and definitely needed a  facelift. It looks a lot cleaner and nicer than before.

It's an "active" club so it's on the smaller side and doesn't have all the amenities of sport and super sport clubs. Most of the machines look like they had their fabric recovered and look a lot newer now even if the machine part is older. Treadmills and ellipticals are close together, so it sucks if the person next to you is smelly =/ During mid-day hours there are plenty of available machines and you don't have to wait. I'm not sure about the peak hours, but I'm sure it can get packed.

Staff is nice enough, although this matters less now that they use the fingerprint access thing.

I can't believe I've failed to review this 24 Hour Fitness when it's the one I frequent the most often.

I come here at least 3 times a week since my kids go to preschool up in WC.

Is it the biggest gym? Does it have the most modern equipment? Does it have the best bathrooms? No...

But it does have everything I need...and it's not a highly populated gym so you can usually get what you need right away.

Major complaints are that parking is a TOTAL PITA. I hate driving around for a metered spot and then realizing I forgot to get change to feed the meter, or having to park a 1/2 mile away and schleping my 2 year old the whole way in.

Also, there are not near enough treadmills. Get rid of some of those worthless elipticals and put in a couple more treadmills.

But what I love the most about this 24 Hour is Kristen in the Kid's Club. She is AMAZING. My 2 year old asks for her by name on a daily basis. "I wanna go to the play area and see Kristen!" "Do I get to see Kristen today?"

Every time I look in she is interacting with the kids; spinning them around, sitting on the ground coloring, playing hide and go seek.

I can workout in peace and know that my child is in great hands and for a mom, that's a great feeling.

I had a job interview in the area and wanted to try the gym out to avoid traffic back home.

This gym has no parking lot.  You'll have to pay $1-2 every time you work out unless you come after the metered parking turns free.

The lockers are tiny and a weird L shape.  You'll have to put your gym back in vertically.

It's a small gym.  The freeweight and cable equipment are in decent condition.

It's a minimalist's gym.  No frills: no parking lot, decent equipment, tiny lockers, clean enough.  Everything you need, but leaves more to be desired.

Walnut Creek, CA: There is rich and poor about this location of 24 Hour Fitness. Some rich; Mostly poor.

It is classified as an "Active" location, but it is on the poor end of that category in amenities. Many "Actives' in the 24 Hour chain have a pool, spa, sauna, plenty of parking, and more. This one has none of those.
    Poor!

The Group X room is out the front door, to the 5 story office building's main elevators, up 1 floor, and into a totally separate space. Decent size, but a hassle to go back and forth. Plus, no class, locked door! Poor!

The lockers are all split, puzzle-like half-heights; no full length for street clothes to hang well and fit all your gear.
    Poor!

The lockers, even in the men's locker room, are all a mauve color.
    Rich?

There are plenty of C/V machines. About 20 elipticals, 20 cycles, 15 treadmills and 15 stairmasters. Still, it was crowded for a weekend afternoon. (All those New Year's resolutions, I guess.)
    So-so!

There were enough weight machines and they had most of the typical types and multiple brands.
    Rich!

The free weights were adequate and people here actually put them back where they belong, unlike most clubs!
    Rich!

The parking, as everyone says, sucks, There is either the handful of street metered spaces, or the building's parking lot. They validate the first 30 minutes, but nothing after that. So that is $1/20 minutes of workout.
    Poor!

The members, being in a more upscale suburb, and located in an office building downtown, are cleaner, sweat and grunt less, talk in murmurred tones rather than shout outs across the gym, and are polite enough to wipe off their equipment!
    Rich!

There is a kids playroom and separate "executive" lockers, but no towel service, just like most 24 hour locations.
    Rich and Poor!

Overall: Poor place for rich people!

One of the nicer 24 hour fitnesses in the Bay Area.  With a big caveat: it gets really far too crowded after work hours. But if you go during the day on a weekend you feel like you have the place to yourself.

There's the normal selection of benches and dumbbells and barbells and they are heavy and you can pick them up.  One thing I don't like is that there's only one power cage where one can squat.  Very few people squat because it isn't that kind of gym, but there often seems to be somebody doing some goofy exercise they invented there.  It can be frustrating having to wait.

The gym is kept very clean and the bathrooms are modern and even have shower doors.  The classes area is nice and the yoga classes I've attended were not bad, except that the room is really long and narrow so it pays to come a little early and get a seat towards the center.

I haven't used the cardio machines but my friend says they're a little mis-aligned.  Anyway we live in California, get outside when you can and if you want to lose weight just eat less.  Cardio machines are a waste of time.

Parking is a  bother.  During the day (except on Sunday) everybody parks at Target a block away.  The staff is a bunch of bored teens who are off in their own world.

I  hate to leave bad reviews but this gym is rough. there is no free parking during the day at night you will be lucky to find a spot on the street otherwise you have to park a mile away and walk. thats just the beginning    . the customer service is semi ok but these guys get paid 8 bucks an hour you cant expect them to be thrilled to be there. the locker rooms smell horrible and they have for the last 9 years they could at least try to make it a little more subtle of a smell.(i know its a gym but come on this is bad!) the trainer i had Omar was awesome very helpful knew what he was talking about didnt make me feel like a total idiot. i was going to give it a single star but omar saved it and im giving it a 2

Small gym, one of the staff after 10 p.m. is a total .....but most of the staff is cool.

Limited equipment and space, older equipment but it's an okay place to work out after 9 p.m.

If Bakersfield is the armpit of California, then this 24-hour fitness is the armpit of Walnut Creek.

It smells like dirty socks, cow pies, and mold.  The showers have mold in them, and look like they haven't been bleached in years.  I can't believe they charge so much!  It's hard enough to be motivated to work out, let alone having the inspiration to do it in a dirty sock pile.

I used to be a big fan of 24 Hour Fitness, so when I moved up to Nor Cal from Los Angeles, I didn't hesitate to become a member of the same chain near my house. After being a member of the Walnut Creek branch of this chain for two years, I I just cancelled my membership over the weekend. Why?

As Andie brings up, this place doesn't have a ton of equipment, the bathrooms are a bit ill equipt (ie no paper towels) and outdated, and, worst of all (and my main reason for quitting this gym and finding another one), the parking is extraordinarly expensive. My old gym as well as the 24 Hour Fitness in Concord provide free parking, but here, you pay a TON of money; quoting Andie below, "The only possibilities are street metered parking which only allows 2 hr. max at $25/half hour or a garage which is $1.00/20 minutes or so. The only good news is that after 6PM, street parking is free and after 5:30PM, garage parking is free."

I go to the gym in the afternoons and late mornings so late nights aren't really an option. Finding parking in the evenings, however, can also be tricky...so just getting to the gym and parking your car can take 30 minutes or so in the mornings AND evenings. That's a work-out in itself!

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars (instead of 1) is because the staff are nice and helpful...but again - who wants to pay for your membership AND regular parking fees? Not me. I'm signing up for Bally's in Pleasant Hill and saving lots of money by not paying for parking 3-4 times a week!

Wow, where have you guys been working out? Reading these bad reviews kept me away from from this 24 Hour, but no longer. Clean and decently organized, and parking wasn't an issue for me -- I found space right on Pringle outside the gym. I consider 30 minutes for a quarter (that's how much it was for the meter where I parked) to be a bargain.

One star off because I couldn't find the abs machines. Where are they hiding?

I absolutely love to workout and appreciate others who share the same pleasure of maintaining a fit physique.

I like this 24 hour hour Fitness because the bathrooms are clean, the machines and equipment are clean, and the staff always greets me and wishes me a good morning, good evening or good night (I can't say that all gyms are this friendly). This particular location even has a tanning salon for those of you who enjoy a summer glow year round.

Additionally, this location does not (from what I have seen) have the typical gym rats who go to the gym just to check themselves out in the mirror while at the same time checking out everyone else. Members here genuinely care more about working out and less about how everyone else looks in their spandex.

However, like most gyms it can be very crowded. The lack of availability of equipment is usually tied to the time of day (peak hours 4-7 PM). After 7:00 PM the availability of the machines increases and the crowd thins.

This 24 is best after 6 pm because of parking. I warn you DO NOT COME DURING THE DAY. It's impossible to get a spot.

No pool, no sauna, no steam room. But if you wanna just get your work out on, then this is the place to get it on. Patrons do return the weight here.

Staff somewhat care here. This place surely does better on treating people than the Concord one does. Bathrooms are awkward.

People here aren't creepers like the Concord one. They don't usually hog machines, weights or cardio machines. Oh yeah.. I'll say that.
