cool functional training equipment out but small area to use it. I like the atmosphere and the trainers seem really nice and knowledgeable.  It can get pretty crowded at prime time though, 5-7pm so beat the rush and get it in early or mid day. There are plenty of tvs for keeping your attention during cardio and their group fitness schedule seems very accommodating as well.

Let me start by saying I was spoiled with my last 24 hr which was a brand new Super Sport(and worth every extra penny IMHO)

So do I love this location?  Not really.  BUT it is the closest to me, the staff is pretty friendly (now that the rude chick up front got fired a few weeks ago) and they are doing their best.

The mens bathroom had toilet issues for months, but they seem to be getting it in gear and cleaning much more now.

The machines seem to rotate being broken, therefore giving the maintenance guy "job security. he is constantly fixing something.  I'd say at any one time 20% of the stairmasters are broken, and 15% of the dreadmills are broken.

The layout is typical 24 and it really does seem like they are doing the best they can.

The training staff is very active and GOOD!

I joined here a couple of months ago and am underwhelmed, even for my fairly low expectations. My overall impression is that this gym is too small for its membership: I got a crazy-low-priced 2-year membership for about $14 a month. Apparently, so has everyone else, and the gym can't keep up with the demand and the wear-and-tear on the machines. There are often several cardio machines that are out of order, and forget about getting a bench near the free weights during peak hours. Classes get full way in advance and they don't seem to be adding any more.

I wish there were more drinking fountains, more space, and more cardio and weight machines. I also wish the staff actively sought out people texting or talking on their cell phones while sitting on weight machines and kicked them off.

The highlight of this club is the staff, who are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Also, there's plenty of parking, which is a big plus.

I tried 24 Hour Fitness out twice while shopping around for a gym to join. There's nothing terribly wrong with them, per se, but they didn't really blow my hair back.

The lap pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna are really nice extras for the colder months. I went during peak hours (4:30pm to 5:30pm) and still didn't have much trouble getting cardio equipment or machines, though I didn't get one with a TV on it. I never tried a class, though they looked pretty cool... I kind of liked being able to watch the Zumba class through the windows while I ran on a treadmill.

It was pretty much a typical chain gym experience with typical prices ($35/month for all gyms, month to month).

    What I didn't like:

    - the locker room smelled like urine
    - the crowd at 24 Hour is definitely more of your bodybuilding/preppy/snooty crowd... not many college age folks walking around, though that may have to do with the hours I went
    - while the staff I met were nice enough, they seemed pretty focused on making the sale
    - though it was nice that there even was a lap pool at all, it was tiny and pretty crowded

Like I said, I'm sure this would be perfect for some people, but it just wasn't the right value for me.

A lot of the machines seem pretty old and beat up.  The elliptical machines especially are in pretty bad shape.  A lot of them don't seem to work correctly.  Other than that the gym seems pretty okay, I guess I am just spoiled by the Supersport I usually go to in Cali :)

It is a clean club and lots of options.  It is a more female friendly option than Gold's across the street (I was a member there before).

The only issue is the lack of group classes.  A few classes such as spinning and body pump are very popular but don't have enough classes, eventhough they have open spaces in their room schedule.  You have to show up almost an hour before class to get a spot.  No one has time for that and shouldn't be expected to.  I stopped going to spinning because I got tired of showing up and not getting a spot.  Repeated feedback to the staff on this issue falls on deaf ears.  They are happy to take on more customers but not fulfill the demand.

Lifetime Fitness is a fabulous club but much more expensive.  24 Hour is good overall but be aware if you are into taking classes that it may not fit your needs.  If there was a better optoin nearby, I would take it, but unfortunately there isn't.

I love the staff here. The girl, Amanda, who works the front desk is super nice. The gym manager is really nice too.

It is really busy most times that I go there but I still don't mind. Yes, a lot of the times the cardio machines have one that is broken down. However, there are still plenty of other things to do while you wait.

I like this gym so much that even though I got broken into here I still go back. The people behind the desk let me keep my purse there and have offered to walk me to my car if I need it to feel safe.

Rather than write a big long review, I'll just paste the letter I sent to them a little earlier in the year.  They couldn't be bothered to acknowledge my letter in any capacity and I quit shortly thereafter.  I've belonged to really nice health clubs before and this isn't one of them.

I wanted to drop you a line about the condition of the "Lance Armstrong 24 Hour Fitness" on William Cannon here in Austin, TX.  I went to your club tonight and was so disgusted and disillusioned that I immediately came home and began shopping around for another gym.

One would think that with the combination of a downward economy and the beginning of the year, gyms would be doing absolutely everything they can to attract and keep their clients.  I can assure you, such is not the case at your aforementioned facility.

I was shocked at the number of cardio stations that had "out of order" signs on them.  When I finally found one that worked, I began my workout only to find that the incline wouldn't work on this particular machine.  Meaning, I had to stop my workout and find a new machine.  Of course, this is quite a task given the number that don't work.

Upon moving machines, I noticed the game I was trying to watch was unwatchable because the flat screen TV was out of order (I believe it was TV number 7).

After my workout, I went to the locker rooms where I encountered, hands down, the filthiest locker room I've ever seen.  I defy you to tell me the last time those floors were cleaned.  It was so disgusting I didn't want to put my bare feet on the floor.  I almost took pictures but thought better of it given that it is a locker room.  The floors are filthy, the lockers are dirty, the benches had debris all over them, you get the point.

Toward the end of my visit I tried to use the "suit mate" to quickly dry my swimsuit and..... you guessed it, was "out of service".
On to the showers where, what a surprise -- the handle in my shower was broken.

All I could think of was how, in the toughest economy in a generation, I've worked so hard to keep my job and keep my customers and have done everything I can to shine and standout and how 24 hour fitness seemed to take me and my money for granted.

I'll tell you this, if any of my people presented a product like this to our consumers, heads would roll.  Shameful.

Last but not least, I respectfully request you remove the name Lance Armstrong from your gym.  Lance is a guy for whom perfection is never enough.  Your gym is a place in which mediocrity thrives on your very best days.

This place is clean and I never really waited for equipment unless it's 5pm and you want to use the treadmill.

Place has all the equipment you need to get a full body workout. They have a open floor workout area in the back which could be bigger because there are tons of people back there during peak times and the trainers train in that area.

The locker room is clean but it has the few that are not bashful that walk around naked. You know the ones I'm talking about...the ones that talk to you while need to reach for your stuff in the lower lockers and they have to stand a foot in front of you.

First off, thank God I only have to use this gym when I am in Austin visiting family.  If this was the gym in my home town, I would never pay to be a member.  I cannot believe how many of the cardio machines were not working at all.  The ones that were working had some function that was not.  If the tv was working, it was missing the headphone jack.  If the tv was working, the treadmill was not.  You get the point.  The only friendly service was the guy at the front desk that was very curious how my wife's day was going, but didn't even acknowledge me, figures.  Going to this location sure does make me value the 24 Hour I frequent in Houston.  Luckily, I did not have to use the locker room, or I would have probably given 1 star.  I expected a much better experience since this is a "Lance Armstrong" 24 Hour.

The only reason I even go here is because it's the only 24hr fitness gym in south Austin. Nevertheless, I go out of my ways several times a week just to avoid this gym at all cost, commuting in traffic just to reach the 24hr club at Hancock center.

I can't speak for all the "professional" trainers at this gym, but there is a couple that are as unprofessional as it gets. The ladies that work the front desk and a trainer named Laura seem to be nice and helpful. Some others are just trying to sell you supplements.

I haven't tried their group classes. This place gets 2 stars instead of 1 because of its location, cleanliness and equipments are in solid conditions.

The pros of this gym are:
    a) cost (super cheap monthly rate)
    b) location-right off Mopac
    c) cycle class  ( Lori is the best instructor)
    d) group fitness classes ( Melinda & Fannie are excellent)
    d) easy check-in system using finger print
    3
    Cons
    a) treadmills and other cardio machines are ofter broken
    b) dirty equipment (weights/mats)
    c) small pool with just three lanes
    d) most group fitness classes are not challenging, besides the above three mentioned instructors
    e) most of the members are not friendly-few exceptions
    f) Nothing like Lifetime Fitness- I was a member of 24-hour for 8-years and joining Lifetime was Life changing!

I agree with Don P.'s assessment that pictures of Lance everywhere just makes the rest of us feel unworthy. I love Lance, but I will never be him. And personally, I can't take the pressure. I'm not a "feel the burn" "just do it" "no pain no gain" kind of gal. I'm more into exercise so I can maintain a higher quality of life, while still enjoying things like bacon and sleep. I like yoga, gentle running, and dancing. But a gym really comes in handy in the dead of summer when I can't bear to be outside and want to be bathed in frigid air conditioning while I work out.

I don't really enjoy the vibe at 24 Hour Fitness. People are not that friendly, and there aren't many classes that appeal to me. They have a good hip hop teacher, but his idea of cardio is teaching a cool routine, and then speeding it up so much that Justin Timberlake sounds (more) like the Chipmunks, and even the people who can dance look like flailing lunatics.

I also find the facilities pretty skanky and dirty a lot of the time. The stretching mats are often encrusted, and I've used ellipticals that are sticky. Bleah.

They get props for having a whole bank of ellipticals and another of treadmills with personal televisions, but the reception is often crap, and only the right audio channel works on the treadmills. They do have a hot sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi, but everything is co-ed, and I don't relish sweating my makeup off around guys.

It's not a bad gym, but it's not for me.

    That makes 100!

A few months ago, I would've told you that Hell would be an icy, icy place before I would ever join a co-ed gym.  But I have a drastic amount of weight to lose and finally got tired enough to do something equally drastic.  So after checking this gym out with a friend who was a member, I took advantage of one of the special deals they were offering and joined up myself.

Let me just say...walking into any gym makes me feel incredibly self-conscious.  I assume everyone's looking at me like "one of these things just doesn't belong" but in actuality, I have been going here 6 days/week for about 6 weeks now and I have only gotten the bitch stare once.  Everyone working at the gym has been friendly to me and I have not felt judged by any of the patrons (other than these two young women I'm talking about).  That is a HUGE thing, no pun intended, and it is a very nice surprise.

I have found the gym to be very clean and I prefer this setup/decor way more than the outdated 80s version up north on 183.  Thought that one sucked.  This location feels like the Cadillac of 24 Hour Fitness gyms.

I agree that the Lance Overload gets a bit much (do I really need to see the yellow jersey and supposedly his shoes encased in a glass-front locker in the ladies' locker room?!) but I applaud one of the quotes on the wall that says something like, "Everybody wants to know if I'm on something.  What am I on?  I'm busting my ass on a bike eight hours a day...that's what I'm on."  Point well made, whether you believe the no-steroid claim or not.

The kid care is one thing that really sets this gym/location apart from the rest of the pack.  The people here are great with kids and seem to actually enjoy themselves.  I've taken my daughter to other locations (in Arlington & at the 183 location) and was not impressed, so I feel very fortunate to be able to rely on this quality of care.  My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves to go and actually looks forward to it.

I also highly recommend their personal training.  I've never ever done this before, but like I said, I was ready to do something drastic so I bit the bullet and signed up for 26 sessions.  After only 3 sessions, I went from doing 25 crunches on the ab bench to multiple sets of 50--without even really trying.  After 6 sessions, I'd lost more than 3" overall.  Nicole Haddad is my trainer, and she's great.  I was leery at first because she's only 24 and I'm old enough to be her mama.  But let me tell you, it's amazing what that little 24-yr old can make me do...and the results speak for themselves.

On a personal note, I'd also like to give a shout out to the pretty woman who wears her headphones on the way from her car into the gym and sings out loud while she sort of dance-runs into the gym.  YOUR MOOD IS INFECTIOUS.  I love the fact that you don't stop singing when you get "caught".  You just keep right on enjoying yourself and smiling--I tell you, it puts me in the best mood when I see you.  It's like finding a lucky penny...I always think it's going to be a good day when we cross paths.

Not a bad gym, considering it's within half a mile of two other competing gyms. It's large, with a weight room downstairs and cardio machines, circuit training, and two aerobics classrooms upstairs.  There is an additional third aerobic classroom downstairs dedicated solely to spin classes.  There's also a pool area, but I can't review that part of the facility much, since I've never used it.

The variety of classes is pretty good, but it seems like the schedule is dominated mostly with SET, Step, or Cycle. There used to be more kickboxing/shadowboxing and pilates classes, but then their best -boxing instructor left, and they installed some high-tech pilates machines and started charging additional fees for the pilates class.  Unfortunate, since those were my favorite and most frequented classes.

There are several fantastic 24Cycle (aka spin) instructors, but seating is so limited in their classes that you have to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of schedule to reserve a spot-- or pay $1 to RSVP a spot, without needing to show up early.  So...I'm paying to take classes I want to take. I'm sorry, what are my monthly dues going towards then?

Most of the treadmills and elliptical trainers have tv's with cable channels, which helps pass the time for those who secretly hate cardio workouts (or just simply don't have cable tv at home).  However, there's at least a couple broken tv's or headset connections on any given day, so if you happen to get one if those during the busy hours, then sorry.  Guess it's the static channel for the full hour!

This isn't the best gym in town, but considering its price (cheaper if you sign a longer contract, and I've been with 24 Hr Fitness since it was The Q Club) (I know, the Q what?), it helps me get the job done.

Well it is no Lifetime Fitness but this 24 Hour Fitness is probably the nicest one in Austin.  The plus side is that it is always clean, most of the time the paper towels are stocked and the cardio equipment upstairs has flat screen TV's.  Because the gym is new you will find everything is better in general.

Down side:  the staff is not friendly save for maybe 2 people; the flat screen TV's don't work half the time and have to always get repaired and if you come between 4:30PM - 6:30PM you will almost always have to wait in line for cardio equipment.  I purchased my 24 membership at Costco for $300 for 2 years.  This is a slammin' deal and I suggest if the offer is still around that you go get it so you can save the sales pitch.  :-)

I have been a member with 24hr for 5 years. I joined in Houston and really enjoyed it. When I moved back to Austin the closest location was on 41st street. It took awhile to get used to so many college students, but none the less I liked the layout OK....it still doesn't compare to the layout in Houston, which had the treadmills just one row away from the weights.

Which leads me to my opinion of the William Cannon location. At first, I really loved this layout of the gym. Cardio being upstairs, weights downstairs. Tons of choices, pool, etc. I haven't been able to peg until now why I haven't been getting the same type of intense workouts.

    .......
    brace yourself for the excitement
    ........

The treadmills are tucked all the way back! 3/4 of them have stupid tvs attached, which by the way, is WAY too close to be watching a tv. I really don't like watching tv when I run, I like PEOPLE watching. Check'n out who is working out, getting more motivated or simply wanting to show of my sprints. But none of that gets to happen here. All you get to see arethe people who are on the elliptical, lots and lots of horrible television shows and that is it. Talk about boring!!!!!!!! I used to run a good 12 miles on the treadmill and feel totally entertained at the same time. Now, with this layout, I can barely handle 3 miles before I'm totally bored out of my mind.

Being an avid runner, this has gotten to the point that I am freezing my membership and hitting up town lake again. Sure, you may say that this is just some lame excuse to why my endurance isn't up to par from what it used to be. I think not. At any given point I could take a break from running, even 3 months, and easily run 5 miles. With this location, running in the same spot seeing the same butt jiggle in front of me for that amount of time is just not sane.

If you are a runner and plan on doing so at the gym, this is not the one for you. Unless, you are the type that can't go anywhere without a TV, then it will be completely perfect.

This gym is almost the same set-up as the Gold's Gym across the street. Two levels (top being a mezzanine type with all the bikes and such where most of the woman go to work out) while the downstairs is where are the free weights are.

This 24 is unlike most I've ever been to. It's by far the largest one I've ever been to and barely anyone was there the times I went which is nice because I like to be efficient with my workouts and don't even like talking to friends while at the gym. Everything was spread out and easily accessible.

I wish more 24's were like this and maybe then I'd starting going there during normal hours (I only go to 24 at like 4am before work as that seems to be the only time weights are where they should be, machines are clean, and there is no weighting time).

In addition, their list of class offerings is perhaps one of the most extensive I've seen for any gym from Latin Spice to 24 Tease (yes I've taken a Tease class before), there's something there for everyone.

Overall I like this gym, and have been a member for 3 years. It's really close to my house and very affordable.  It has the basics that I need: cardio, a pool, classes, and childcare.  I don't use much else there.  The childcare has been great, and I've taken my daughter there since she was old enough to go at six months old.  I've seen a few roaches there in the showers and in the pool area which is really gross.  My biggest gripe is the cardio machines.  They need to replace most of them.  About only half of them are completely functional at any given time.  Most have issues with the tv, volume, or even the speed control.  If this gym wasn't so close for me I would probably go elsewhere for just this issue alone, since cardio is the main part of my workout.

I used to be a member at Premiere Lady, but needed a change. A friend dragged me to this gym on her guest pass. I would have never considered a coed gym otherwise. This gym has a diverse clientele, at every age and fitness level. This is a huge plus in my eyes.

The staff is super friendly. I have a VIP membership that allows me to take a guest. When my guest has a child, they will allow my guest to use daycare. The kids seem to love it there. I'm really grateful for this service, because I love having a gym buddy.

When signing up for my membership and taking advantage of free training sessions, they definitely try to hard-sell you on adding extras to your membership. I assume this is typical at other gyms. Otherwise they leave you alone.

OK, this is my biggest beef. When this club first opened, they added small TV screens to half of the available elliptical machines. They added these screens on the left side of the entire row. I wish they had added them to the right side, where the machines face the wall, not the window. This eliminates having the view of the light/outdoors from the outside windows from the front of the gym. I sit in front of a computer monitor all day long. I enjoyed my workouts on the elliptical with the natural view where I could empty my mind and get into my workout. Seeing another screen just reminds me of all the work that I still need to finish. I don't enjoy that much.

They turn the AC off at 10 pm in the summertime. At least they did last year. I actually like going at night, but it gets super stifling upstairs. I guess we are supposed to sweat though!

All and all, I like this place. Its spacious, there is usually plenty of equipment available, and they keep in pretty clean.

I tried to leave 24 Hour when, after changing offices, the locations became inconvenient...but 1 year and 30 pounds later, I realized that it was worth the extra drive to have:
    clean, well maintained facilities,
    competent trainers (Brian was Awesome),
people at the front desk who weren't snarky,
more than 2 working shower stalls,
equipment that wasn't rusty, sweaty or old
    great classes
    lap pools
the ability to cancel my membership at any time
reasonable prices (if you join when there is a special)
and friends who are also members who are willing to get up at the crack of dawn to work out with me.

There are a few things I don't like so much including:
The interior of all 24 Hours are basically shrines to Lance Armstrong
    No Central Location
Several showers don't get very hot

I can live with most of these things (well, except the shower problem...hopefully that will be getting fixed).

I gave Gold's a shot and was disappointed....especially when I had to wait a year to cancel....lesson learned.  When I find a gym I am comfortable in, stay there!

This Gym is great on many levels. I have been a member of many gyms since the 70's, so I feel qualified to rate this gym. They have the following positive pros: Most trainers are nice and not pushy. The club is mostly clean and the machines are in good shape. It has the usual gym props but without the overbearing music that Gold's provides. (I come to workout - not scream while trying to communicate). You can see the time from any angle at the gym and no one bothers you. The ladies are not snobbish but friendly. The hardcore bodybuilders are not egotistical but respectful.

The Cons: I sometimes see some of the employees smirking at the older people who come to workout (from their computer stations). That makes them uncomfortable guys so stop it. The shower walls and floors need to be cleaned better (I have seen bugs that look like crabs on the wall) So I won't be showering there too often.  I also notice that people like to stare. I alway try to concentrate and stay focused but the stare phenomena always makes me laugh.

(Edit:  review was for different location.  oops.  removed old review)

This particular 24 Hour Fitness is located in the gym triangle of Southwest Austin.  There's a Gold's Gym across the street and a Lifetime Fitness mega-gym opening soon across MoPac.  If you include the dinky 1-2-3 Fit! gym and The Little Gym in the nearby strip malls, it'd be a gym pentagon -- or would that be a pentagram?  Muhahaha!  Let me drain all the blood from this goat so I can finish this review...

What's great about this location is that it's actually open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (albeit closed on most major holidays).  The 24HF on 183/Braker closes at some ridiculously early time on the weekends.  False advertising!  If I recall, the William Cannon 24HF opened in the fall of 2006, so the entire facility is fairly new and more importantly -- clean.  There's nothing worse than stepping onto an elliptical trainer with multiple layers of dried crusted sweat on the handles.  Speaking of the cardio machines, most of them now have personal LCD monitors for your viewing pleasure.  Very cool for those of us that don't like wearing glasses/contacts to go work out and like to watch the tube.  They still have the eight or so 50" plasmas in the front of the cardio room in addition to the ones downstairs and in the locker rooms.

They've got your standard aerobic/pilates/kickboxing studio with all the fancy mirrors and such.  There's also a spinning room (durh) and swimming pool.  The meatheads seem to enjoy the extensive dumbbell selection.

    Allsomeness:
+  pretty clean.  they added some extra paper towel dispenser machines which is good for the OCD freaks
    +  plenty of cardio machines
+  lots of circuit training equipment.  seatpads are all color coded based on worked muscle groups to help with your workouts
+  auto-sensing faucets and urinals in the restrooms (see above)
    +  whirlpool, sauna, steam rooms
+  Viva le Lance!  I kinda like the rotating bike sculpture and all the motivational fluff on the walls.  It's better than the 24 Hour Fitness:  Barry Bonds or Michael Vick Signature Clubs, that's fersure.

    Suckiness:
    -  they turn off the A/C after midnight
    -  not a whole lot of free weights outside of dumbbell racks and few benches
    -  not a lot of leg press or squat racks
    -  use of the mini lockers require 50 cents
    -  no paper towels in the restrooms.  I once saw a guy try to dry his whole body under one of those air blower things.  I guess someone stole his towel
    -  no warm water from the sink faucets (ugh)
    -  the guy working the 3rd shift blasts gangsta rap on "11".  I'm sorry, your ipods and walkmans just can't compete against "11".

Tip:  said gangsta rapper doesn't check for memberships after 1am.  Feel free to bring in extended family and neighbors for a workout!  :)

I go to this gym solely for the Latin spice class with Fanny Gonzalez. From Salsa to Reggeton she's got it all covered - great music!!! She teaches 4 times a week and not only do you "very sweat" it's a friggin blast. The first time it's intimidating, but then you catch on. All levels!

Why do people feel it is necessary to walk around buck naked in a Gym locker room?  Are they that comfortable?  I know you need gto shower but that towel you use to dry yourself with makes a nice lava lava.   It is usually the older, larger variety persons who really don't care about walking around with their wobbly bits hanging about.  I also don't care for the guys who sit bare butt on the benches while they are talking on their phones or getting ready to get changed.   I'll never sit on the benches again.   Anyway, I think that is the way it is in all gyms but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Now to this gym....It is a pretty good gym.  The aforementioned Gym triangle is true.  Golds, 24H and Lifetime are all within a half mile of eachother.  24 is nice because it is not what I call meathead friendly.  Yes there are a ton of really fit folks working out in the free weight area but it doesn't feel intimidating as in other gyms.  Maybe it is the layout or maybe it is the clientele which is decidedly 30 something...which is nice.  They have a lap pool, an aerobics pool, 3 rooms for classes (Main room upstairs, the spinning room downstairs and the Pilates room (cost extra) upstairs. ).  The cardio equipment is new and generally clean.  The personal TV's on the treadmills are nice but it is really hard to watch a show and run at the same time. They look nice though.  I amen the comment about the paper towel machines.  There is a rule that you have to have your own towel with you at all times but not everyone thinks they sweat enough to have to carry one...trust me, you do.  Bottom line.  Large, clean gym with lots of choices for your workout.

I love my new gym and drastically bigger and newer than its downtown counterpart.  I usually do weights and cardio but you can also attend any class they offer for free.  I've only been to yoga but since the room is glass I've seen other people doing all kinds of funny looking things while I'm running on the treadmill.  In case you want to watch TV there are no worries here, its wall to wall plasma and even the cardio machines are stacked with channels.  Great place especially in the mornings when you can find most machines accessible.  Like downtown its much more crowded during the day.  Great staff, trainers and facility,  I highly recommend it.

This is the first gym I tried since moving to Texas.  I loved my gym in Chicago and nothing can compare.  So... this doesn't compare!  Things I liked: Friendly people (duh they were trying to sell me a membership), clean facility, good hours, lots of machines, not over-crowded.  Things I disliked:  No spinning?!, towels aren't provided, poorly working machines, no one on the floor to help.  It's not a bad place at all but I'm going to keep looking for the best gym in Austin!

The BEST BEST gym I have been to.  The reason - TVs on ellipticals and treadmills, the offering of pilates and brand new equipment.  I owe my desire to work out to this 24 Hour Fitness - somehow I can stay on an elliptical and/or treadmill up to an hour just to watch TV.  I like to go when I know something is going to be on TV - yesterday I watched the UT/ A&M disaster and another time I watched the premiere of Project Runway.   Also, I really like how they have the girl weights up stairs next to the cardio machines - after I hop off the cardio machine I can lift some weights, do some sit ups, and that is about all I do.  If you havent been - check out the TV elliptical and treadmills!

We just joined the 24 hour sport off 35 near Parmer.  I will admit the sales people are a little pushy but for the most part he wasn't trying to get us to spend more money he just wanted us just join in some way.  We were the ones to ask about the more extensive plan.  We signed a 3 yr membership for a pretty cheap price.  Probably the lowest I could have found.  As far as cost the salespeople even after we told them we would pay one price found 3-4 more discounts they could give us.  Overall the cardio room is pretty nice with a large variety of machines to choose from  and TVs to watch.  If I couldn't watch TV while I am there it would be tough for me to want to go.

I downloaded a 7 day free trial pass.  It was activated at the desk and I was sent to a "counselor."  I told her up front I already had a trainer and another gym membership, but I was looking for a backup when the other gym was closed or I was traveling.  She was extremely pushy about my signing up before I even toured the place.  When I told her "Maybe, but not now." she didn't say "Have a good workout.  Here's my card.  We'd love to have you" Instead she said nothing more and made a big production of tearing up and throwing into the wastebasket the application she had taken it on herself to fill out.  High-pressure crap doesn't work with me.  Essence of sleazy used car salesperson..

Machines were more than adequate for my needs.  Almost of them worked.  The place was reasonably clean.  Needed better ventilation around the treadmills.

I will be replacing my current second gym membership which is about to expire, but probably not a place that gives me surly attitude.

I love Domingo's step class on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and wish I could make the Thursday class but just a bit too early to make it there from work. It's my favorite class, and think its a favorite from a lot because the class is always full! he's a great instructor, and does a range of easy to advanced combos which I love because it pushes me. Can he teach more step classes please (whoever is the Class Coordinator)?!?! Thanks so much!

This club is filthy, several machines are broken, and the employees would rather stand around looking out the window than pick up a broom or a mop. I asked a manager to call 3 times in 9 weeks (still waiting for a call back). When I called to discuss problem, I was told that the manager was unavailable.
I finally spoke with the Service Manager on the phone and she made excuses why they cannot keep the club clean. She actually told me that she could not go in to inspect the men's wet area on the men's side. What? No guys available to give you a heads up? Evidently, they cannot keep the machines working because there's only 1 service tech for all 4 clubs. Hire more in this down economy? Nah.
So, I canceled. And they dinged my cc for an extra month. Great. Well, I warned you 24 Fitness, this is the bad review I promised. I wonder if it'll cost you more than that extra $30 you grabbed.
       Don't be fooled--this place is a pit.

Shiny and new!  Helpful staff and lots of good equipment.  But oddly arranged and small stretching area are the only down sides.  It has two pools, a hot tub, sauna, and lots of flat screen TV's for your viewing pleasure.  More treadmills and ellipticals then you can shake a stick at so theres always open equipment even during busy times.

I just quit paying $64 a month at Pure downtown and bought a 2 year 24 Hour Fitness membership to save a bit of money.  Although I live downtown, I have gone to this gym a few times because I find it to be really nice.  There is a nice mix of people and the equipment is relatively new.  As other reviews have stated, it seems pretty clean.

I have also worked out at the 24 hour fitness in Hancock and it pails in comparison to this!

I've been a member of 24 hour fitness for a long time...5 years or so.  I was first a member in Portland, OR and when I came to Austin I was pleased to see that there were 24's here too. I mainly go to spin and step classes...the instructors at 24 are great and keep you motivated and having fun. My only complaint is that I wish the 24's in Austin had more weekend classes, especially Sunday late afternoon/early evening.  Such a great time to come to the gym and no classes!

24 Hour Fitness offers a 7-Day "Free" trial so you can go check out the gym and experience it for yourself.  Sounds good right?  Nope, you're not getting that free trial w/o going through prolonged discussions with a membership counselor over the additional supplements (vitamins) and personal training you'll need.  I wasted 30 minutes of my time talking to their pushy salesman (think used car dealer).  I repeatedly told them I was just interested in the gym membership, but they were intent on trying to sell me things I didn't want.  Not to mention that the price they quoted to me for membership was higher that what could be got from ordering online.  Eventually, I gave up on the trial membership and walked out of the place never to return.  If I were Lance and aware of the pushy sales tactics used at 24 hour, I wouldn't want my name associated with the place.
