For a Celtics fan to love this gym, you know it has to be good. Honestly, I don't mind working out in a Magic Johnson-themed gym. He's one of the two Lakers players I can stand (the other being Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he was awesome in 'Airplane!'). If there must be a Purple and Gold gym, I'm glad it's Magic's mug plastered all over the walls instead of Kobe's.

The classes are awesome... My favorites are Cycle with Wes (Mondays at 6PM) and BodyPump with Allison (Thursdays at 7PM). They have lots more classes available, and even have Aqua Zumba in the pool. Although it was an upbeat class, there is just something wrong about doing dance moves in the water and feeling everything jiggle around. Came close to having a nip slip while doing the quick "running man" movements of the arms. Yikes.

The pool is in good condition, although you WILL smell like chlorine even after taking a shower. Speaking of those showers, you should wear sandals in there... Just... Do it.

Air quality is good. Nice to actually be able to breathe when working out.

Helpful, non-creepy trainers and friendly front desk staff.

Unlike the 24 Hour closest to my home (Hermosa Beach), this gym is not a fashion show. Women like myself come here to get their sweat on and have a real work out, not cruise on the treadmill at 2.0 mph with makeup on, hair down, and searching for their sugar daddy. One thing I wish the Magic gym DID have that Hermosa currently has? A separate room for spinning. Maybe if the bikes were set up beforehand, we'd all get to start our spin classes on time? A girl can dream, I suppose.

This is a really good gym.  I was nervous, because I've heard bad things about 24 Hour Fitness gyms in general.  But, after reading the reviews here by a few of my yelp buddies and because they had a really good deal, I got a membership without even visiting first.  It was a good choice.

They have a LOT of cardio equipment.  That's about the only thing I can do since my pregnant belly gets in the way and I'm really not supposed to be doing any heavy training.  I've yet to go in and not be able to grab a piece of equipment, even when it's busy.  Granted, now I'm relegated to the bike machines since about a week and a half after joining, I broke my toe in karate class.  Accident prone much?

The women's locker room is pretty big.  Since I'm not sweating much, I've only used it once and usually just go home in my workout gear.  Yes, my attractive workout gear is now a pair of yoga pants and an old mens t-shirt.  Hey, you get into what you can fit into.

Staff is really friendly.  They always greet you when you come in and say goodbye when you leave.  You catch more meatheads with honey.  That is the phrase, isn't it?

My only grip is the WOMEN'S RESTROOM.  Come on ladies, were you raised in a kennel???  STOP PISSING ON THE TOILET SEAT AND LEAVING IT.  WTF?!  Are you that lazy?  You're at a gym to teach you NOT to be lazy.  Wipe your nasty cooch juice off the toilet when you leave.

So yeah, I like this gym...minus the nasty bitches in the bathroom.

LOCK UP YOUR VALUABLES INTO AN IMPENETRABLE FORTRESS or leave them at home. Make sure your trunk can't popped open if they break your window. Equip your car with a poison gas alarm and a remote detonator.

I had my car stolen from here. They stole all my work tools & my laptop (damage $3,000 worth of tools & stuff). They've had MANY thefts here, over and over again it happens. It's a regular occurrence. Cars being broken into on a regular basis and they say they can't do anything about it because the structure belongs to another business. Another person had their car stolen from here a month before mine.

It was a great gym that I never hesitated to go to until this happened. Then I started hearing all these stories about thefts & break ins.

Compared to the other 24 hour fitness gyms I've been to, this one is massive! Tons of equipment all in working order to get a great routine in.   I was here visiting friends and wanted to hit the gym.  I was unfamiliar with this gym, but I don't like that the locker rooms are sequestered all the way in the corner, and you couldn't see it from the entrance unless you actively sought it.   It's nothing to complain about and it certainly allows you to get the gym workout you are craving.  I  haven't attended the classes, but from previous experiences, I know they get packed early and it's a good idea to prepare for a backup.  It seems like they have a plethora of classes to select from though.  The next time I'm in the area, I will definitely be stopping by here again.

I came here to take a Group X class, so I only got to do a quick run-through at this gym.  Here are my impressions:

Group X classroom:  quickly heats up, it's not well ventilated.  The size is okay, and the speaker system is good.  I find it ironic that I can see Jim's Burgers outside the window.

Upstairs weight area:  not as spacious as some other locations I've been to, but they did have everything I would have normally looked for.  Not crowded despite getting here at 6:30pm, the usual peak time for gyms.

Downstairs cardio area:  Nicely organized, and also not a lot of people waiting.

Parking: a well lit structure next to the gym with easy access to stairs no matter what level you park on.  Dont' be afraid to drive up a few levels to park and get into the gym!

I dont' know what the Magic Johnson aspect of this gym is, save for the huge photo of him on the wall.  I'll be back here though :)

Having been part of 24 Hour for 6 years this is not as much a review as a "when you going to remodle the other locations"...
If you live in Pasadena, this 24 hour is the best gym of the big companies.
you have Bally's, LA Fitness, oldtown 24 and Hastings Ranch 24.
My gripe is the old town and Hastings... They are old, run down and in need of major work to be on par with other 24. I used the West Covina, Rowland Heights and the new Downtown. To a T... everyone that belongs to 24 will say the same thing. If I was a manager in especially the oldtown location i would want more business, I would be bitchin like a cat in heat on a hot tin roof.
Come on 24, give us two more nice gyms!

This place is a hidden gem in the Altadena area. Parking may be a difficult to find in the structure because the structure serves the entire shopping complex.

This facility was clean. However, I was trying to use the free weights and they seemed to be limited in some weights. Also, there was an absence of mats in the regular workout area. However, if you go into the rooms where they have classes, you can get a mat from there. In addition, after your workout, I noticed there was a Subway sandwich store next door so you can supplement your workout with a healthy diet.

This gym  is way better than the ones in San Francisco. When I'm in town, I like going here.

I like the basketball court. I try to avoid the peak hours as much as possible.

Plenty of equipment to go around.

if you are hungry, there is a subway  next to hit.

If you need to get your eyes checked, they have that too.

First - there has been many many break-in in the parking lot for over 2 years now!  In the past 12 months the number of break insskyrocketed.  On the average, there are 3 cars broken into per month!  24 hour fitness totally ignores this.  They do have a security guard, but he does nothing but stay inside the gym while watching people work out while their member's cars are broken into.  Shouldn't he be patrolling in the parking lot?  HELLO...  If you don't believe me, check out the Altadena Blog page.  They list all the break ins. You will be shocked!

Second - this gym is dirty!! ICK.  They don't thorought clean the equipment.  They often clean the mirrors.  HELLO!  That is not where the germs are!  The shower are icky.  When they first open, it was a nice place.  WAS....

Huge parking lot, great staff, the place is ALWAYS clean, full size basketball court,  high ceilings, pool, etc. Home away from home.

I love this gym. If you come here often,  you'll get to know the regulars at this gym. Really cool people. Helps motivate you to keep going knowing you'll prob see some of the regulars here.

I cant think of anything I don't like about this place. Thanks Magic Johnson. *thumbs up*

I used to really like this gym -- still do, but a couple things first:

Plus: There's plenty of machines and weights.  I can get both exercise and the physical therapy I need done.  Good selection of drinks and beverages, although I bring my own, since I don't really have extra cash to spend.  In general, the areas are clean.  I can always park here, so  I come here, even though Glendale and Pasadena are a few miles closer.

Minus: One thing I wish they would do is rack the weights more often.  It's hard to find weights sometimes.  Also, a suggestion: provide an accompanying cloth towel or rags with the sanitizing spray.  We go through *tons* of paper towels -- although none in the restroom.  I guess they don't have or want a washer/dryer.

Big minus: keep an eye on your stuff.  Not the staff's fault, but there are rashes of thefts, both in the gym and parking lot (just had an iPod that was a gift stolen).  At least they let you know there can be trouble.  However, I wish they would be more proactive here, and not just warn people, but try to find and remove the thieves amongst us.  Maybe I'm spoiled.  When I lived out-of-state in another city, nobody worried about his or her stuff.

Hot shower availability recently has been spotty.  E.g., this week no hot water from Sunday-Wednesday.

They do have a "Kid's Club" for daycare, although that has limited hours.

This place is awesome unlike the Glendale Sport by my house which makes me think that I'm going to contract a disease using the equipment and has me feeling odd that I'm the only chick without makeup on...

This MJ Sport rules. It's clean, big and for the most part, people who workout here are considerate of each other by cleaning up after themselves.

Parking can be a pain anytime before 9:30, kind of like those last ten minutes on the treadmill.

The staff? Well they're extremely nice and helpful.

But the best part of this gym? Magic Johnson is around every corner.

Going up the stairs? BAM! Magic Johnson is smiling at you. Trying to focus on the tv while doing cardio but something in your visual field is distracting you? BAM! Magic Johnson smiling at you while holding a basketball!

    BAM!

Weights much? We'll I do. I come here occasionally as my way-out-of-the-way gym to get in a random workout a few times a month. It's nice to not be in a VERY crowded gym. I must say though, it can get pretty crowded sometimes, especially in the weights area.

It has a great cardio area on the first floor with plenty of machines to always have one available, but the weights area can get pretty packed. Go here if you're trying to get a quick cardio workout in, but if you're trying to do anything else (for example weights and abs) it might take some time to get your full workout in.

I've yet to take a class here, but it seems as thought there's plenty of them to find exactly what your looking for. And don't worry about the locker room/showers/bathroom; there's only one each, for men and women, and despite how crowded it gets, they always seem to be fairly clean.

I would bring your own towel though. Unlike some of the higher end gyms, this one doesn't provide any towels for you to use. Bad for a guy like me who always forgets his towel!!

    Tsk tsk Dimitri!

This gym is great. I rarely have to wait for any of the machines or weights and for the most part they are clean. There has been a few dirty stations, but that's bound to happen.

I like the fact that I can breathe when I'm in here. Most gyms smell like sweaty balls and feet mixed... it's pretty gross. This gym smells like windex which is far better IMO. The parking is in a structure and I hear that there has been a few break-ins, but I've not experienced it myself.

The staff is cool and unlike most other gyms not very pushy. This is a plus for me, because when I go to the gym I'm usually pressed for time and want to make the most of it.

I used to come pretty regularly for the 24 Dance classes taught by Alfred on Tuesday and Thursday nights, but I come much less frequently than I used to.  Maybe I've been coming for too long, 'cause I'm getting bored with the same old music he keeps playing.  I wish he'd play more current stuff.  He also wastes a lot of time changing CDs and joking around with the crowd (like running after people who try to leave early, etc.).  I know the class should be fun and interactive, but seriously, it's getting kind of ridiculous.  I came to work out and get my heart rate up, not stand around watching him be playful with the attention whores (and believe me, there are plenty).  The people in that class are getting really annoying.

He's almost always late too.  The class used to be at 8:00, but he could never make it on time, so they moved it to 8:15, but he still usually doesn't make it by then.  We usually don't get started warming up until about 8:20 or 8:25.  It's just not worth it for me to drive so far and waste my time anymore.

Problem is, I can't seem to find a regular schedule of Group X classes that suits me at the closer gyms.  Enough with the freakin' Zumba already.

This is the best and Only gym in Altadena and... the best 24 Hour Fitness- Sport in the area! Here are my reasons why...

Even during peak hours I can at least get on a machine for cardio; there are plenty of those machines, at least 40-50. Nearby these machines, disinfectant spray and paper towels are available for anyone who wants to be extra careful.

The air quality in this gym is always clear even when you wouldn't expect it to be. For example, when the gym is full of people you can still breath. It's a miracle.

The indoor pool and jacuzzi area appear to be nice. The wet and dry saunas are situated close by so you get a nice view of the pool while you're sitting inside; at least in the dry sauna you can see out of the window.

The 2nd floor has a well arranged weight area with a separate basketball court and secluded classroom. And, If you're anything like me, you'll appreciate the fact that not everyone can see how bad your dance moves are when you're taking the 24 Dance class lol...

Despite the separation and seclusion of certain rooms, there is plenty of natural light in every area inside the gym during the day. This is because of the floor to ceiling-sized windows on the 1st and 2nd floor.

At night the gym is also well lit both inside the building and out, including the walkway leading to the parking lot. When a section of the gym is not being used, the censored lights turn off. Who knew that a huge gym like this, open 24 hours, could be such an energy saver?! Yep that's right. Magic Johnson did:P

Overall, I don't have too many complaints about this place. It would be
nice if the sauna floors were mopped more often especially since they are used so much. (During peak hours it's standing room only). And a few machines need maintenance from time to time for various reasons but, that's normal for any public gym. In my humble opinion, it seems to take no longer than a week for most things to get fixed at this 24 Hour Fitness.

Now, if only Magic would build one of his movie theaters close by, Altadena would be crackin;)

Came here for the first time today.  It's much better than the 24 on Colorado.  This gym is not as muggy and the air quality is much better.  Of course I came at midnight, so I'm sure it's probably usually not as empty.  But even at midnight, the other gym is humid and busy.  I like how the TV in the cardio area is everywhere so you're not bored, no matter which machine you're on.
Went upstairs to see the weights area.  It's a bit crowded and the free weights and machines are all in one room.  Not too fond of that.  But on a brighter note, there are plenty of ab rockers so I don't have to wait.
So far I'm happy with this gym.  I'll try to stop by earlier so I can assess how OT is during peak hours.

Being born and raised in Los Angeles, when I think of the name Magic Johnson, I always think of 4 things:
    - the ghetto ass Magic Johnson Theaters in South Central L.A.
    - his cheesy talk show called the "Magic Hour" during the early 90's.
    - the Great Western Forum
    - and all the Championship banners #32 brought to the LakeShow during the 80's (BTW, Boston Sux! Boston Sux! Boston Sux!)

But now... When I think of Magic Johnson, I think of spin class, yoga, zumba, TKB, precores, treadmills, and stairmasters. This place is probably one of my favorite 24 Hour gyms I've been to and I've been to more than 3 dozen gyms across the U.S. This place is clean, nice ambience and has a sucker free population that attend this place... There's no need to go Kanye West and give it up to the the douche bags, scumbags, or a$$holes at this gym.

    What I liked?
    - Clean
    - Basketball Court
    - Swimming Pool
    - Sauna
    - Spin Class
    - Reliable Machines (for the most part)
    - Friendly Staff
    - No Juice Heads or Hobags working out!

    What I don't like?
    - it gets packed around 6p-7p and parking can suck
    - Some machines are off balance and can mess up your rhythm
    - Can smell like a fish market and jog balls at times.

There's no other greater inspiration and motivation than Magic Johnson smiling at you at every corner: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Every gym has its flaws. But, it's so hard to find a clean, spacious, well-equiped gym like the Alta Dena 24. Magic Johnson photos grace the walls and sprinkles a little bit of joy in everyone's fitness hearts. What? Yes, I feel it.

I've had enough of you, Glendale 24, just by the lack of equipment, the ventilation, and the people who work out there. (I'm calling you out, girl who works the elliptical in Ugg boots and a Venti Starbucks iced coffee in hand) The Glendale location is... a joke, plus you have to pay for meter parking, unless you park before 6 AM or after 10 PM.

They have a pool and basketball court at this location, which is better than a regular 24 and not paying the "Super Sport" price. Parking at the structure isn't a hassle, unless you come at peak hours, but that can easily be avoided.

If you complain about this location, I will keeelllll. Just kidding, but go ahead, do a lap around the surrounding 24's and see that the grass is greener at Alta Dena.

Also, I recently read a warning note that people having been stealing personal belongings, so watch your things (and your back) and you'll be fine. That scares me a little, but I should be fine after I worked out and I'll soon be buff, right? right?!! ;)

I want to like this gym, I really do.  But I can't recommend it in good faith. The last few times I've been there, the men's locker room/bathroom was filthy. I don't know if it's because of the poor design of the urinals or the poor aim of the men -- all I know is that you better watch you step.

Aside from the restroom, the gym is spacious and well-organized. Cardio equipment is downstairs and weights, along with classes and a basketball court are upstairs. The staff seems responsive enough (save for cleaning the bathroom) and the members friendly. Another bonus: there's a Subway in the same plaza and a McDonald's across the street. McDonald's for the free Wifi, of course.  ;)

One tip: instead of running on the treadmill, I'd recommend running around the Rose Bowl a few miles over. Just make sure there's not a game and the weather not daunting!

My go to gym! The Glendale one is the same distance but I prefer going to this one because 1) free parking 2) it's a lot cleaner! I usually avoid going at the times where there's a lot of people which is anywhere from 6-9pm. Clean, roomy, friendly workers, and theres a pool!

    PROS
    -friendly staff
    -clean gym
    -free parking
-very close to my area (Glendale/LC)
    -intense/fun classes

    CONS
-parking can be a bitch on M/T/W around 6pm ish
-may have to wait a few mins for cardio machines (treadmill/elliptical)

great place to get fit...and kinda awesome that there's a Subway right next to it! (although there are temptations nearby...like McDonald's, a burger place, Panda Express...)

This is one of the best 24 Hr Fitness gyms I've been to.  I've tried a few in the San Gabriel Valley, and they're either TOO crowded (like the Arcadia facility) or the machines are just really old and crappy.  This gym can get crowded, but that's only if you're going during peak hours, and the machines are relatively newish.

I've attended the yoga class that Richard teaches on Monday nights, and the spin & lift class that Mich leads on Tuesdays at noon.  They are both excellent instructors, and I think very highly of them.  Mich's spin & lift class is a really great work out and definitely kicks your butt!  She changes it up every week to target different parts of your body, but it's still a complete, total body work out.  :)

Great staff (in other words, no d-bags).

Clean - very clean (I always see the staff wiping down stuff, which is
awesome.  I've NEVER seen the Glendale one do that!)

Excellent variety of machines & amenities.  And at least when I go, there's not too big a wait, if even.

Parking is one of the best for a 24 that I've ever come across.

My only qualm, although it doesn't really bother me on a regular basis, is that the basketball gym smells like well, gross.  First visit inside and the BF got mad as I couldn't hold back my expression.  But I guess you get used to it, just wish that they'd open up a window or two or put some fans or ventilation.  Anything really.  It smells like a pig pen.

Note to Wednesday night spin instructor...

Can you pleaseeeeeeee switch up the music every now and then?!?!?

I absolutely love taking spin and I think the instructor is fantastic and in great shape, but the music just drives me crazy.

I'm not totally opposed to trance or house...but I can't do it for a full hour, it doesnt get me pumped up or motivated.

Maybe we can throw in a little 80's or pop here and there...

Music can make or break a work out for me and when that hardcore trance is playing in the background, the 1 hour spin class starts to drag and feel like a 3 hour spin class.

Just knowing that I'm pumping iron inside of Magic Johnson gives me the chills. The inside of Magic Johnson is a lot roomier than other  24hr fitnesses. If I did cardio (gay), I would point out that there are plenty of machines for every woman that wants to run from that cake they ate earlier.
If you're looking to get your yolk on so you can make up for a lacking personality (like moi), then the upstairs is for you. It looks pretty spacious but I don't think it has more machines (yes, the size is an illusion).
The people are usually courteous, always asking if I'm done with the machine, where I reply "This is a lifestyle goddamit! I'm never done!"
There is also an indoor basketball court. Surprised?  Me neither. The games are pretty fast paced. So if that's a little intimidating and watching games where dribbling is optional and absolutely no defense is played, then take a seat.

All in all, This 24hrs Fitness by far the best one I've been to. I gave it 4 stars because I have to drive all the way from downtown. Why don't I go to the one by my house or even glendale?

    1) Downtown 24 is gayer than a Turkish bath house
    2) Well if you've been to glendale... well yea...

I started coming here because of my discount from work and I wanted to go to a co-ed gym so I could work out with the bf. I started looking for a trainer so I would prevent further injury of my neck. Michael, my trainer is wonderful and patient with me. I've already lost 4% body fat in 6 weeks!! 5 stars for him.

Unfortunately, the gym itself has some issues. I do like the variety of cardio and resistance machines, but sometimes they lack exercise balls. It can be very crowded during lunch hours and 5pm to 8pm.
The bathrooms do not have towels or paper towels to dry your hands.

There is free parking that is shared with Bank of America, Subway, and Ranch Market. Parking can be tough, but I always find a spot on the top level where my car melts in the heat.
The temperature is nice and there are TVs everywhere. They also offer a kids playroom as well.

This is my favorite 24 in LA. Not the closest, but my favorite just the same. You can find a parking spot during rush hour! Four stars.

If you are like me, you are an avid reader of yelp reviews and thereby the recipient of the most fabulous eatery advice on the planet. As a result, your butt might be growing larger by the second. You might also be gruesomely engaged by yelp talk threads thereby leaving you irrevocably attached to your couch, unable to move, even to use the facilities. Maybe it is just me in this predicament.

My weight has fluctuated greatly in my life and the older I get, the harder it is to drop the good twenty pounds that I can pack on this body of mine. Diet? Hah! Exercise it is.

This particular 24 is exactly what the doctor ordered. -A no fuss, no stress environment where a girl can feel safe and comfortable getting the necessary sweat on daily that one needs to be getting in an effort to burn off the good million calories a day that I eat thanks to yelp!

A pool, cool fitness classes worth taking, a basketball court where I swear to you, future NBA stars are training! and no lines for my most necessary cure for the size of this booty! Cardio machines galore.

Baggy Harvard law sweatshirt, hang on a sec, EX! I still hate you! I just like your old sweatshirts! Where was I? Oh yeah,  hair in a bun and no make up is how I roll into the gym. This is a gym where I fit in.

A highly recommended 24, especially to myself who needs to drop pounds STAT!

Horrible gym! Dirty, equipment doesn't work properly, and very crowded at all hours. I spent more time waiting for equipment than I did working out.

Also, what is with the bathrooms? There are always a bunch of dudes in there running around with their dongs swinging in the wind. No one wants to see your junk right when you get out of the shower.

Don't get me started with the constant puddles of piss in there along with s**t plastered all over the toilet. Some of these dudes have crooked dongs and plugged up holes to make that kind of mess. Damn!

It's a cheap gym and you get what you pay for. I am much happier spending more money to attend a nicer gym. In this economy, that should say enough about this gym.

Far from where I live but there's a basketball court where the people playing don't believe they're in the NBA, just a buncha people who wanna play for competitive fun...I live closer to the Northridge supersport and I pay for it, but when I want to get some games of bball in, I definitely don't mind making the drive.
