Review from France F.
Seattle, WA
This downtown Seattle location is a great Sport level club, not fancy but has most everything you need. Friendly staff, open layout, some newly updated equipment and nice amenities like pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. It does get busy at peak times, so you may have to wait at times for a cardio machine or specific piece of equipment, but I haven't found that too much of an issue personally since I usually try to go just before or after those peak hours.
This gym also offers some great fitness classes and instructors. I especially like Chee's Muscle Blast (which I wish was offered in the evening), Medora's Zumba (she makes it feel like club night), and Kyle's yoga (he kicks my asana with his Ashtanga every time!). These instructors are all 5 star! My only complaint is that as good as they are, these popular classes can get very crowded and so it would be nice if they would offer additional days/times.
In general, I really like the 24 hour availability and, as I spend a lot of time on the Eastside as well as Seattle, it's convenient having a membership that allows me to use different 24 Hour clubs locally, as well as when I'm traveling.
Extra Tip - Membership prices can really vary but if you are a Costco member you can get some great deals. Look at http://costco.com for deals on "Sport" level clubs and at the warehouses directly for a special 2 year "Super Sport" deal. -

I recently moved back to the city, and was concerned about going to a gym in the city. I had heard horror stories about the condition of this 24 hour fitness specifically, but it seems to me that the times are changing. This gym has a ton of new cardio equipment, new weight machines, and a staff of highly experienced trainers!
Overall I am impressed!
I also just started training with Ryan, and she is amazing! She's really focusing on the goals I have set for myself and helping me to stay motivated. I have been having so much fun getting back into the gym and really focusing on a new healthier me! I definitely 100% recommend training with Ryan! -

This review is for Danielle Bregent, not the club its self.
Danielle teaches the most amazing yoga at noon on Mondays. It is a vinyasa flow class that never gets old!. Danielle takes the time to change it a bit each week to target different areas as well as keeping it fresh, which I really appreciate.
I've been coming almost every Monday for nearly a year and I can say Danielle's class has really pushed me into the shape I want to be in. Thank you so much Danielle! -

I Love Love Love Love Love Love this gym. I have been a member for over 10 years.. and I can truthfully say that they have the best staff now!!! They are so encouraging, knowledgeable, approachable and motivating! I love my trainer, Andrea! I couldn't imagine being a member of another gym. This gym has the best, top of the line gym machines, Precor AMT, newest treadmills, Ellipticals, I love the Sauna, Steam Room and Hot Tub! Last but not least..the classes are fantastic!! My favorite is the Step class at 9am on Saturday and then 10am Saturday BodyPump!
Going to my gym is a not a dread in my day.. it is a daily treat that I give myself.. I truly enjoy it..and I enjoy my results! I used to weigh 250lbs, I am now down to 143lbs!! -

Having been a long time member with the 24 Hour Fitness, Downtown Seattle, I could find any variety of class offerings and just as many really excellent and inspiring instructors such as Chee N, Emily C, George S.
For the last year, with the club not as accessible to me, I found it much too easy to make excuses ~ time, accessibility, methods.
After one session with Kyle D and his all too convincing reality-check that there was no reason that should keep me from caring for my body and health by exercising daily.
For a 6 week Personal Training series with him, I've achieved:
* Each Sunday at 24 Hour, a challenging session with Kyle ~ he tweaks and adds exercises to what he has prescribed for me.
* Monday thru Friday / 15-20 minutes a day at the gym at my new location of work ~ on my own ~ alternating Functional training and cardio exercises charted out for me~
* Saturdays a free day!
Weeks 6 to 8 (present) ~
* Every other Sunday at 24 Hour, training session with Kyle
* Monday thru Friday / 20-30 minutes a day on my own
* Day 7 ~ Encouraged to find a form of exercise (barre, reformer, yoga) that I can call my own
The future ~
* Continuing the above ~ (I'm attending an October wedding in Maui)
In short: Kyle broke down the barriers and made it all doable ~
* 15-30 minutes x 5 days a week / an hour on Saturday and training on Sunday
* Functional Training alternating with cardio. (No perplexing machines . . . yet!)
* Using both 24 Hour and the gym at work
A piece of cake!!!! -

Moms, dads, caregivers, you must check out the Kids Club at this gym. I bring my almost three year-old and six month-old every morning, even when I'm too tired to do much more than stand on an elliptical machine. The high-quality, warm childcare and well-designed hours make the Kids Club my go-to for a daily hit of sanity. You can leave very specific care instructions. For example, the attendants call me whenever one of my kids gets upset. The staff are able to hang in there when they're unhappy, but they let the parents decide when they want to be paged. That kind of flexibility makes working out a reality rather than a pipe dream. And you certainly can't beat the price. I pay about $60 a month for my membership and unlimited use of the Kids Club for two kids.

Review from Ryan W.
Always super busy whenever I'm here (usually around 5:30pm) They offer a very nice sized weight area down stairs with plenty of free weights and a pluthera of machines. Despite the amount of equipment offered, you'll still have to wait sometimes to use something just due to the sheer volume of people in and out of there. They have a 4-lane 25-yard pool which I've used a few times to lap swim. It's definitely nice and refreshing to jump in and get some swimming in after a hard spin class.
My favorite aspect of this 24-hour location is the amount of classes they offer. I mainly do the spin class, and they offer on average 4-spin classes a day! As well of all the other classes (yoga, power sculpt, zumba etc.) They make it really easy to join a class no matter what time of day it is.
Definitely one of my favorite branches in the greater Seattle area! -

The Gym, the New Years Resolution that never gets resolved =).
I've been a member of 24hr and specifically this gym for a number of years. I go off and on and have to admit this is a great gym. For people that are looking for a place to work out and feel comfortable working out in, this is a great place to go. LOTS of different types of gym equipment, the main floor is primarily cardio and a huge selection. Upstairs is where you can take classes, and downstairs is all weights and a pool.
Parking isn't to bad. You can park on the street or there is a parking lot that you can park on for free as long as you get your ticket stamped at the front counter. The parking lot isn't open 24hrs, I believe it's open till 10PM. They make an announcement before 10PM to let everyone know just in case they aren't listening.
Overall a good gym to be a member of. -

Seattle, WA
After moving from one side of Lk Union to the other I had to find a new gym because it was taking way too long to get to LA Fitness (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) by bus. I looked at Rain Fitness but it's small, expensive, and they tried to steal money from me (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). I then went to 24 Hour Fitness because it's close to both my home and work. I signed up that very day and while I do have some complaints, I have no regrets.
The Good:
-- 24 HF is a large gym (3 levels) with lots of equipment. When I go after work it's crowded but it's not too bad on the weekends. You may have to wait for a piece of equipment or work in with someone or even use a different machine than you wanted, but if you are flexible you can get it all done. And there are tons of free weights.
-- Several upgrades have taken place in the 7ish months I've been a member. Many of the cardio machines were replaced in Dec and they also got new warm-up mats which is great cause most of the old ones smelled like stinky feet. They added some fancy training thing that looks like a jungle gym on the main level.
-- THERE ARE ENOUGH LOCKERS! The locker shortage issue was a huge problem at LAF so it is a joy and pleasure to always be able to find a locker, even during peak hours.
-- I see people (OK, really mostly one guy) cleaning on a regular basis. Like at LAF I don't really agree with what they think is worth cleaning and I wash my hands 2 - 3 times per visit, but at least there aren't huge dust bunnies under every machine.
-- The monthly cost is cheap, about $33. And I really appreciate that I'm not locked into a contract as my membership is month - to - month.
-- 24 HF is of course open 24 hours. I have yet to work out at 3am but I could if I wanted to.
-- Unlike at LAF I have never been harassed by some eager new employee trying to drum up business. I avoided eye contact with most employees at LAF lest I risk being pressured into a personal training package. I don't feel that way at 24 HF and just about every staff person I've interacted with has been nice and helpful.
The Bad:
-- Because of the pool on the lower level, it can get really humid down there and smell of chlorine. I was a bit overwhelmed by it when I joined but apparently I've acclimated. But beware if you are sensitive to chlorine.
-- The Case of The Disappearing and/or Broken Machines. This is my biggest gripe. 24 HF closed for a couple days in Dec to replace a bunch of the cardio equipment, install the aforementioned jungle gym, and do some remodeling. In order to make room for the jungle gym most of the resistance machines that were on the main level were moved downstairs. More shuffling ensued on the lower level to make room for the relocated machines. And some machines were apparently shuffled out the door, never to return. Including the one I discovered tonight, I'd say about 4 weight machines disappeared. And none of them are machines that were terribly similar to others so I've been forced to adjust my routines quite a bit. In addition to this great annoyance, the overall number of cardio machines decreased. There's alot more empty space on the main floor than there was before the Big Shuffle (there are more stationary bikes now though, yipee). Plus, none of the stair machines were fixed or replaced and more than half of them have been out of order for MONTHS. Super aggravating.
-- It's not as clean as it could be, especially in the locker room. I've never seen anyone clean the women's locker room.
-- There are no paper towels in the locker room. This DRIVES ME INSANE. Not only does this mean you can't always dry your hands when the dryers are being used to dry hair, feet, swimsuits... (and 1 has been broken for a couple weeks) but there is also no way to wipe up water and yucky stuff. The counter is always wet . At least there are paper towels and sanitary spray available in the workout areas.
-- Some of the TVs in the cardio area are broken (and have been for months) and I have yet to figure out how to change the channels. I miss the one TV per cardio machine at LAF!
-- Some of the weight machines are absurdly close together. I recently felt like I was straddling the guy on the machine in front of me. Awkward!
The Noteworthy:
-- Instead of having a keychain barcode, 24 HF checks you in using a fingerprint scan. So don't join 24 HF if you plan on a life of crime.
-- This particular 24 HF is like a gay club where people, some of them straight, happen to work out. If overt gayness offends you, this is not the gym for you.
The Things I Know Exist But Can't Comment On:
-- Pool and hot tub
-- Childcare
-- Retail area
-- (Spin) Classes
-- Personal trainers
24 Hour Fitness is far from a luxurious, sparkling gym, but convenience and affordability will keep me a member as long as I'm in the area.Listed in: High Maintenance, Workin on My Fitness

Seattle, WA
I joined 24 Hour Fitness, pre-Biggest Loser, before this location was built at a temporary location that is now a Subway in early 2000 and had to look at CAD 3-D drawings. Before that I had membership at other health clubs that kept on getting bought out and then they'd raise the fees or change the terms even though I was told "lifetime," which means as long as they still owned it. 24HF seemed like a safe bet due to their size and numbers rather than smaller clubs I that kept on getting bought out. I got an incredible membership offer before it was built which I hope "lifetime" means at least for when I'm around?
The facility shows some wear and tear in the tile work, but that is because whomever they hired to originally do it did such a poor job so it gives the impression that it's not clean. The staff has extremely friendly and if you make suggestions they listen.
They have Kid's Club here (for a fee) so you can bring your toddler or young child in the mornings or late afternoons (closed during lunch time hours) during the week.
They have a lap pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. Sometimes the sauna and steam room don't work because stupid impatient people splash the thermostat with water to try & get the heat to come on faster and instead break it for everyone.
FREE EVENING PARKING in the garage Monday-Friday 5-10pm. They have LOTS OF CLASSES: spin class, yoga, & whatever is the fitness trend. They regularly update their equipment to the newest and greatest and the tv's all have earphone plugs.
When traveling I have used my membership in other states at other 24HF.
The only semi-negative which I knew before I joined, but keeps the membership fees down, is you have to bring your own towel. They do have paper towels with sanitizing spray to clean machines/stations before/after you use them.
I got a great rate because it was during construction and I paid up front for more than 3 years and then got a flat fixed rate for lifetime which is less than what some martial arts mcdojos charge a month. Look for announcements for a new club opening and go sign up there and get the cheap initial membership.
I am extremely happy with my inexpensive membership at the Downtown 24 Hour Fitness. This has been the best investment in maintaining my healthy lifestyle, looking and feeling fit and sexy! -

I have been to this 24 several times in the last 4years as an out of town member. I have Sport level all access. I used to goto the Golds in the Convention Center. All the negative things people have said about this 24, you could say about Golds. This 24 is close to The Roosevelt hotel, so it works for me.
Since I travel a lot, I see 24 Hour Fitness locations in all kinds of situations. They are all corporate owned locations, but 24 does not seem to have a national standard that any of them follow. Complaining to Carlsbad HQ does not seem to have any effect.
I am ok with the Seattle - Yale Ave location, but all of the clubs in all states could use some corporate quality inspections.
Also as a general rule, if you've been training in any gym, always wash your hands before touching your face. Also wash your hands before AND after going to the toilet -
Review from Skyler D.
I've been going to this 24-Hour Fitness since before they opened their doors. I was one of those folks who bought a membership when the announced they were opening up. It was the best deal in the area. It is still very cheap.
That said - it is one of the dirtiest gyms I've ever been to and they rarely ever (more like never) fix their broken equipment. I've mentioned the broken equipment to employees and have had them go try them out, see that it's obviously not working, and say flat out that it's working fine.
The majority of their front desk staff are friendly and smile with the exception of one new guy we say this past Friday evening - he was awful and ignored everyone who needed his help until he was done texting/playing with his phone.
Needless to say - it's a gym. They have equipment for me to use to get my workout. They have showers for me to use if I'm remodeling my bathroom.
Just wash your hands REAL GOOD after you visit here (and use shower shoes and touch as little as possible if you must use the locker room). Oh, and don't go during their after work rush hour...no actually do so that I can work out with fewer people after hours :) -
Review from Adam C.
After being a member here for about 5 years, I figure it's time to share my thoughts on this place. Read this review before you join!
The good:
- Open 24 hours.
- Has heavy things for me to move around.
- Price. I got 3 years for $200 at Costco. I can go to other locations, but this is the one closest to my home.
- Attractive and seemingly knowledgeable/qualified trainers
The bad:
- Parking. Factor this cost into your decision as to what price you pay for your gym membership. See the photos I attached. If you work out between 8 and 11 AM, you'll pay $10 for an hour of parking in their garage, or $3-8 for street parking. You'll drive in circles to find sparse, free street parking in the evenings, including after the garage closes at 10PM.
- Cleanliness. Having worked out here at least 3x/week for 5 years, and at all hours day and night, I have only seen cleaning staff on about 3 occasions. When I have seen them, they're wiping down mirrors or the never-touched parts of the equipment. The machines often stink, the weights almost always stink, the floor stinks, and the men's lockers warrant a bullet point of their own.
- Locker rooms. I can't imagine the ladies' is much better. I flat out refuse to use the men's room if possible. Owing to the tile floor, it is always wet. A cleaning staff member should mop it every 15 mins or so during the rush hours, but I have never seen someone clean the floor. The toilet area is poorly ventilated and stinks. The lockers are beat-up and often have long-term locks on them. See next point.
- Upkeep/maintenance. 14hr has numerous signs stating that they'll clip locks left overnight. This is not true. One has been marked with a tag, by the staff, since November 2010, and still resides on the locker. Since the men's room is nasty, I go upstairs to the locker bay there. For the past 3 years, several of the lockers have been occupied by abandoned locks, and the management still won't clip them. There is a dying TV which is unwatchable yet has remained there since July. The pads are getting worn out. Things like the drinking fountain near the pool are falling apart and don't get attention.
On the whole, it depends on what you want from a gym. If all you need is a good price, flexible hours, and a Capitol Hill location, this place is adequate. If you want much more, you might be asking too much of this 24 Hr Fitness. -
Review from Ian B.
Ive been to many "sport" level 24 hour fitnesses, and Id say that this one is pretty good, but, definitely not great. Like other 24 Hour Fitnesses at this level, theres a 4 lane pool, expansive cardio area, sauna, and jacuzzi. They offer free classes, and my wife and I have gone to the zumba and yoga in addition to a lot of weight lifting and cardio. My main complaints are that there are a lot of unlabelled cardio machines that dont work. On the positive side, they replace their equipment often and keep things up to date, and the cost of the membership is for myself and my wife together is pretty exceptional.

Love, love, love this club. I really love the kids club workers the most. Ms. Noby and Ms. Danny and Ms. Anna really took care of my baby girl. They went above and beyond just being a baby sitting service but really engage and encouraged her development in the short times she was with them. Such a wonderful service to get a hour or so to workout knowing my daughter is in safe and loving hands. Thank you!

24 Hour Fitness Trainer Chrysta Pahlman has been my Trainer since the first day that I started hitting the gym again 4 years ago. She turned out to be the the best trainer there, helping me to lose over 50 pounds and fixing every one of my previous health problems, from high cholesterol and high blood pressure, to an extremely painful lower back.! Now she is helping to the next level, looking better than I have ever looked before.

I'm here for the classes...and occasionally the pool. Barbara is a great instructor, most often seen dancing, singing, and unloading an insane amount of energy at the 5:30am classes (I know that's a crazy workout time but sleep when you're dead, right?!) She will own you, in a good way, at her Step and Stength Interval class.
Debra and Shane are equally great cycling instructors - a couple others weren't my cup of team (note to self - if I'm ever mic'd, do not sing along under my breath to my mixed tape and for the love of good music, do not put nickelback on the playlist!).
The step class on Saturday mornings is fabulous (yes, fabulous - you'll understand why this is the only word that can describe it if you go check it out). Sometimes you need to sign up for classes in advance, just figure out the ones you want and get to the gym 20 min early.
I always park on the street in the mornings for free - it's easy to find a spot.
Showers are pretty disgusting. Wear shower shoes! -
Review from Winona R.
I like this 24h fitness location a lot! They have a variety of classes available (which I am taking advantage of more and more to keep from getting bored), a pool/hot tub, a large locker room, and friendly employees. They always greet me by name as I am signing in (I think the fingerprint sign-in thing is weird, but whatever) and tell me to have a great day when I leave. I've never taken advantage of their personal training, but friends who have were quick to offer glowing reviews.
This is not an upscale gym, but they have everything you need to get in a great workout, with tons of machines and free weights, so you can always find what you need even in the after work gym rush hour.Listed in: I feel pretty, oh so pretty...

Seattle, WA
I do not have too much of a problem with the overcrowded free weight area, fingerprint stealing check-in, the creepy people that spend hours in the hot tub, or the most disgusting bathrooms I have ever been in. The membership was cheap, and for a reduced rate I expected this gym to leave much to be desired.
What I do have a problem with is one of the staff raising his voice at my pregnant wife for politely refusing his offer to sell her personal training sessions. I understand that the staff probably makes peanuts without selling personal training sessions, but I also understand that neither my wife nor I chose that profession (or corporation) for this individual.
I find it unbelievable that an employee of this company would be able to belittle a PAYING CUSTOMER, causing a scene, without a manager or any other staff saying anything.
We will not be returning to this sh!thole. -

Not my favorite gym. But I like that I have so many options regarding workouts here. This is by far the cheapest gym membership that I have ever had. There is a pool which is also a plus. Even on a really busy day there is always plenty of available machines. I don't care for the locker room. It could be a lot cleaner. I also feel like I am working out in a warehouse. Other than that it's a good gym.

So, I've only gone one time and was a little nervous about this location because I've been to others that aren't that great. I did belong to a shishi club that was twice as much and I loved it--except they didn't have a lot of cardio machines.
Well, this place gets the 4 stars because they have TONS of machines and while the place isn't hospital clean, they aren't filthy and I went right after work (like everyone else) and there were a lot of people, so the fact that it wasn't spotless isn't surprising.
I purchased my membership online-no high pressure sales pitch for training sessions or their APEX product!! YAY! -
Review from Anthony P.
Seattle, WA
Most of my past gym experiences have been at the universities I've attended or worked at and they have always been stellar. 24 Hour Fitness is sort of on the other end of the scale. It's not horrible, but it's nowhere near good.
On the plus side, the staff I've encountered have always been very friendly and helpful. There are a variety of classes included with the membership and a wide range of equipment without much wait during the times I've gone.
The negatives: like many of the other reviews, cleanliness is an issue. I have only ever seen one person on staff cleaning. That poor guy can't take care of the whole gym! And the men's locker room and showers are pretty gross. I've noticed lately more and more equipment with "out of order" signs. They did recently do a re-org of the cardio equipment upstairs, so I hope that means new or repaired equipment is on its way. But I'm not holding my breath.
Ultimately, you get what you pay for and my membership here for 2 years came to about $13 a month, so I guess I can't complain too much. -

This Gym like any place has it's pro's and con's. What I love about this 24hour fitness is that it is actually open 24 hours, unlike other 24hour Fitness gym locations I have been to. They do not have the most updates fitness equipment, but they do have a good variety of machines and classes to keep things fun and exciting. I try to make it out to the gym at least two hours a day and I have not gotten bored yet!
The only issues I have with this location is that it is not the cleanest and it does not have air conditioning, or at least it doesn't appear to have it. The evening staff are very friendly, but I had to come a few times during the day and the day staff seem to be a bit grumpy. The membership is affordable, it has a day care center which is great and parking is simple even though it is downtown Seattle! -

I was a little concerned after reading the reviews on here about visiting this gym while on vacation but decided to try it out. I've been a 24hr member for 6 years and have been to ones all over the country and honestly I don't understand the bad reviews of this gym. I used it twice while in Seattle and it seemed like a great gym.
The equipment was solid and with three levels there was plenty of room to get a good work out. I did not use the locker room so I can't speak to it but my gf and I did take Ray's spin class and he was a great instructor with great music. I gave this gym 4 stars because both days the girls running the front desk seemed kind of b*tchy. -
Review from Brynne H.
I have to write an update because something good is happening at 24, but in the most hilarious way...
They're cleaning more. Not hilarious, right?
But it's a little more hilarious when you're there at 4am, and the janitor literally only vacuums around cardio machines that are in use. I can't tell you how much I love watching the expressions on people's faces as he bends over next to them trying to vacuum between the treadmill they are using and the ones next to it. Priceless.
Of course, it's all fun and games until he comes to my treadmill...
Seriously, though, it's been months since I've seen an empty paper towel dispenser or spray bottle. That's a vast improvement from a year ago, so kudos to that! And the newer janitors, while creepy, are at least in fact cleaning.

Fellas, make sure you do not leave valuables in your locker even if it's locked! Two hours ago someone broke into my boyfriend's locker (locked with a combination lock) and stole money, a new ipod and two phones. We notified the manager Jared and apparently this has been a problem for the past week! I always thought we'd be safe with a combo lock but apparently these thieves are skilled at figuring out how to unlock it. I guess it's key locks for us going forward! I hope this idiot gets caught!
Aside from this unfortunate incident, the gym is okay....could be cleaner. The toilets in the women's bathroom are utterly disgusting. Why do I come here? Because I love the turbo kickboxing classes. -
Review from Deeann M.
Seattle, WA
Disgusting. If your idea of getting clean after a work out is shower stalls with so much mildew that I thought it was modern art, then this is your place. Despite several months of complaining that only two of five or six women's shower stalls had curtains, no one has bothered to go to Target and spend $9/ea for some new plastic liners. (The ones with shower curtains, well, you don't want those curtains to touch your body, so maybe it's better without them.) I've complained about the cleanliness (lack thereof) for months, without a budge.
As soon as one of the desk clerks confided in me that people have been complaining about the locker rooms since she started working there a few years ago...well, that was the end for me.
I canceled my membership today and am going back to the downtown YMCA. They may not be open 24 hours, or even on Sundays, but at least I'm not afraid of catching something in the locker room. And the YMCA has actual towel service! Have you heard about this neat idea of going to a gym and they will provide clean white towels for you?! It's stellar, and I hope it catches on as a new trend in gyms across America. -

Did you buy your tickets...to the gun show! (say while showing off biceps)
This place is huge!!! I've worked out at a lot of 24's here in WA and in CO but this is one of the biggest.
It kind of an odd location but it's easily accessible from the freeway. There is parking in a garage that they validate, three floors and two separate group X class rooms (one for spin and one for all the others).
Now if only I could figure out how to get the instructors from CO to teach at this gym...
Can't comment about the trainers, kid's club or pool area since I only came to take class. But I will say that the employees at the front desk were very friendly and greeted me both coming and going.
The fat girl has to keep the skinny one happy so we will be back. -
Review from Arie M.
On the outside, this is an unassuming 24 hour fitness sport, but once you go in, you realize they are actually very large and several floors. They have everything you're looking for except maybe for a decent view or parking given they are in downtown.

Seattle, WA
It really is open 24 hours, as some 24 fitness' aren't really open all day, every day. It has a lot of cardio machines, there's a pool, lots of weights in the weight room. There's also a variety of group exercise classes (zumba anyone?), but most of them are early morning and evening. It isn't too busy in the mornings and early afternoon. However, if you come around 430-7pm it's pretty packed, all of the machines are taken up, and it's hard to find a spot in the group X classes.
The location is good, the variety is great, but the parking is lacking. During certain hours of the day the parking garage is free for members. Street parking maybe hard to find as well, but it's definitely walkable if you live in the downtown/capitol hill area. -

Ugh - this place is a real-life Global Gym (Dodgeball). I had a membership here for about 8 months and finally had enough. I'm in shape, young, and not a stranger to gyms. I was either being hit on by guys or being the spotlight of whispers and snickering by girls. The place felt like it was more for networking than exercise. The sauna is also co-ed where I had my side pinched by a stranger! He explained himself after I made it clear that his behavior was not okay, apparently he "recruits models"pleaaase.
The staff was very disorganized and mildly unprofessional. Maybe they're spread too thin or something? Don't know. Don't care.
The only reason why I don't give it one star is because its pretty clean for a 24 hr gym, and its HUGE. -

I used to belong to the Seattle Athletic Club, formerly the Seattle Club down there in the market. Even with my employer picking up half the monthly dues, I was shelling out over $60 per month for not a lot of equipment and a whole lot of attitude from other members. My job quit sharing the cost, and I ended my membership. And sat on my ass for three years - and my ass got bigger - and how.
Anyhoo - I had my annual check-up a couple of weeks ago and found out that I not only have a big ass, but high cholesterol. I need to start moving around a little bit, and given my mommy status - best if I can do it at lunch.
So I bite the bullet and join 24 hour which I can walk to from my office. I am slightly frightened because I am thinking this is a gym full of fake and baked Peso's waitresses and guys trying to get in their pants, but I want to live, so I go.
I am pleasantly surprised! I go at around 3, before the meat market rush I am thinking. There are about 10 times more machines than the SAC, an even trade for the lack of spa like quality in the locker room. The place is almost dead - perfect! There are people with bigger asses than mine! EXCELLENT!
I jump on an elliptical and go. Hot damn, I can still do a level 7 cross-train. I rock. Next I need to do some weights - I find this great little set up in the middle of the cardio floor. About ten machines in a circuit, meant for a 24 minute weight training work out. I know how to use most of them and do. All sweaty, feeling a nice little endorphin rush. Yay.
Head back to the office, excited to return the next day. And all for $35 a month. Kick ass, thank you 24! I look forward to a long and ass shrinking relationship with you!
UPDATE:
Three dollar childcare. Yeah - I love this place.Listed in: The Making of Badassica, Yay for Me! ROTD!

It's a gym. It's overcrowded. It sometimes smells bad. It has a lot of equipment but even more members. It's cheap, conveniently located. I had a payment mishap once, it got fixed promptly. It can be dirty, it can be very creepy at times. Like I said, it's a gym... a mediocre one

Review from James E.
Previously I gave this facility 4/5 stars, but that was when I first joined the gym October '07 and had a personal trainer.
Then I contracted pubic lice from the locker room June 9.
Here's the e-mail I sent the corporate office:
I will be canceling my membership on Friday, June 13. I discovered pubic lice Monday evening, and I have every reason to believe I acquired this infestation from the locker room. I have noticed, on several occasions, the lack of hygiene in this facility: lack of sanitation solution and paper towels for equipment; lack of soap in the locker room (both showers and sinks); and standing water on the locker room floor.
I've had to shave my chest, pubic area and legs due to this infestation. I am currently washing and drying my bedding and towels as I type this message, and Monday I will need to re-apply lice shampoo to my body. I've never had pubic lice in my life and I am thoroughly disgusted and upset that I have to endure these parasites--all because I was using the gym facilities.
I've been told by several staff members that they do not use the showers in the locker room. I've also had friends cancel their memberships because of various infections they've acquired by using the locker room. What I fail to understand is how a nationwide fitness company cannot provide a hygienic environment for its patrons.
I wrote a review of 24 Hour Fitness on Yelp that gave your facility 4 out of 5 stars. At this time, I want to retract my review as I cannot trust my health and safety in your facility.
I paid in full for a VIP membership last October which included 20 sessions with a personal trainer. I do not expect to be reimbursed for the trainer as I valued Kristin's expertise. However, I do expect to be fully reimbursed for my membership because of this infestation which has now caused me pain, embarrassment, and the inability to work out as I am afraid of infecting others.
I appreciate your prompt response in this matter.
Here is the reply I received from the club manager, emphasis between asterisks is mine:
James, I do apologize for the experience you have had in regards to the cleanliness of our facility. When do you notice the club looking the worst? I can assure you that we do go through and disinfect the locker room area twice a day and have a hourly check for any things that need to be taken care of right way, these type of activities would not build a habitat the lice would breed. I will look into this issue today and see if we have any signs that there are lice anywhere and then let you know. *I do know that we have not had any other instances in this club of lice in over a year that I have been here.* Again, I understand where this could be a very embarrassing and frustrating situation, so I will let you know what I find out when we look deeper in the club for signs of infestation. Let me know if there is anything I can do in the mean time!!
My reply:
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've only used the facility in the morning hours. Several times I've used the equipment only to discover paper towels and/or disinfectant wasn't available for cleaning. Recently the club didn't have any soap in the locker room; how people were able to wash their hands after using the bathroom or take a shower after working out is unknown. I find your claim of sanitization efforts hard to believe when simple hygiene using soap and disinfectant solutions were not maintained at a satisfactory level.
My daily schedule consists of home, your facility, and my office. I can say with every confidence that both my home and office do not contain any possible access to infection.
You stated "I do know that we have not had any other instances in this club of lice in over a year that I have been here." Having experienced your facility since October of last year, with your own staff telling me they do not even use the showers, and having seen the ventilation shafts above the showers coated in layers of dust, I have every reason to conclude my contact with pubic lice is from your facility.
Again, I am not seeking reimbursement for the personal training sessions I used with Kristin. However, I do want a full reimbursement of my membership. Please grant my request and I will consider the matter closed.
I looked the other way several times when the facility didn't have proper cleaning tools or soap (for 2 days!), but I should've joined my friends and left the gym months ago. But no, I stayed, and now I've got to wait until next Monday to re-apply Rid and hope to God I can resume a normal life. -

Whoa, this gym attracts whiney reviews like moths to the light. Alright, we're gonna need to hunker down and do a Pros/Cons list. What say you we do it South American-political-renegade style?
Che Guevera's:
1. The locacion es IDEALE.
2. es muy economico
3. They have a saltwater piscina, hot-tub, sauna and el bano de steamo
4. mucho mucho machinos.
5. Huge variedad of equipment (including the legendary Commercial stairmaster, a revolving treadmill of steps!)
6. Muy bueno trainers; our old one let me and Nick get away with double-training together
7. They are about to instalar new state-of-the-art TVs
8. um, HELLO, they are open 24 horas a day.
Hugo Chavez's:
1. It's a burgeoning retail chain, which means el desperado sales staff. Just go in there knowing more or less what you want. These people are only trying to make a living.
2. The Women's bano is disgusting
3. Si, it's crowded after work but isn't that better than being depressingly deserted like Gold's?? You NEED the excitement, it's the gym.
Hmmm...let's see...ocho to tres......Viva Che!!

I admit it, I've been spoiled rotten by the UW's IMA. But when 45,000 students automatically pay for the facilities out of their tuition, you bet every machine has its own TV. But this isn't about the IMA now is it?
The main draw to 24 Hour Fitness was the free group exercise classes. You'd think that a club in downtown Seattle would have overflowing classes and a waiting list but nay, most of the classes are first come/first serve and I've never been turned away. Although note that all cycling classes do require signing up in advance.
The GOOD:
- Yoga + Hip Hop. Both classes are insanely popular but so worth it. I can't remember names, I think one of the hip hop teachers is Dom? An Asian guy and he goes at a steady pace w/ a few breaks but you learn a lot packed into an hour. To a fun mix of music too! Hey o Lady Gaga.
- # of Weight Machines. You hardly have to wait to get the one you want and they're color coded by what area of your body it targets. Pink = Abs and so on.
- I forgot socks once but thankfully, they have a little store of things by the front desk. Voila! Problem solved! I think they have childcare too ... crazy.
The BAD: Nah, let's just go right to the ugly shall we?
and the UGLY:
- It never seems terribly clean but that's the fault of the club goers. I see maybe 4/7 people actually wipe down their machines after a sweaty session on the elliptical. Ew.
- The locker rooms get really cramped at peak times. The benches are small/narrow so its difficult to put your things anywhere or change without worrying about all your stuff falling on the floor.
And as a side note, don't get tricked by their constant 'membership specials' - if you ever paid initiation, you got gypped buster. If any of your friends has a membership, you can prob get tacked on as a family member for less than $30 a month and with the Costco membership, its about $13 a month for 2 yrs. -

I haven't been to many gyms, but this one is definitely the one of the nicest ones I've been to. Like I said, I haven't been to many gyms, so take that for what it's worth.
I try not to overanalyze the gym too much. I really don't care what kind of people are there. I come to the gym to work out and mind my own business. However, the staring takes a little getting used to, but if you're focused on working out, it's easy to ignore.
They have plenty of equipment so you'll rarely have to stand around waiting for your turn on something. I love the fact they have a pool, a hot tub, a sauna AND a steam room. They also offer great classes you can sign up for! They have huge lockers in the locker room, as well as showers and plenty of space for the ladies. They also have tanning beds, if you're into that sorta thing.
I got my gym membership for next to nothing, so it's hard for me to find reasons to complain. However, the gym can be a little "messy" at times. The locker room is clean enough. But, the steam room and sauna constanly have water bottles and rags in them (which doesn't make sense because I thought people went to the gym to NOT be lazy).
Either way, it's a great place to go workout whether you're the mood for a quick jog on the treadmill, an hour long cardio workout, or just to sit in the hot tub and steam room all night like I do. -

Lots of gear, it's cheap & month to month, and not as cruisey as the Golds was on Broadway, but there are so many silly problems that could be easily rectified (heh).....
Broken machines, standing water, the drinking fountain that has been out of order for weeks, so you get stuck behind schmucks filling up their jugs at the single working one downstairs. I love the little sign they have on it, stating "out of order, estimated repair date: __________ (blank)"
and and and! one of my ultimate pet peeves manifested thanks to the slacker trainers, standing and hitting on chix RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS. You shouldn't have to push past some under-tall, over-biceped, tinted windows Neon driving Justin with a popped collar taking up the busiest 6 square feet in the entire establishment trying to figure if it's a Last Supper Club night, or a Cowgirls Inc. night. These monkeys are riding their wages with the least possible effort, I think things would be better if the staff was replaced with a wrench a screwdriver and a mop.
Bonus knock: the team member or associate or whatever flat out lied to me when I signed up, saying that parking is always free in the garage.
Oh, and if at all possible, avoid the putrid locker room and bathroom, breathing poopsteam sucks. -

This is one of the better clubs in the area, along with the new one in Lynnwood. There's plenty of equipment, everything's clean, and the staff is friendly.
Two words of caution:
1. The club regulars are young and good looking, which can distract you from your workout.
2. If you're a straight guy and get annoyed or offended at gay men trying to pick you up, I wouldn't recommend hanging out in the locker room too long. -

Take the Spinning class with Zac. It will kill you and then change your life*. HOWEVER, the bike maintenance is seriously lacking. So I took away a star, 24 Hour. You're on notice.
*hyperbole alert. But seriously, he's awesome and this class will eff you up, but in a good way.1 Previous Review: Show all »
