Yay for a gym that's a little closer to home. Another yay for everything still being so new.
So minus 1 star for making the Group X classroom so small. =( Maximum capacity is 44 so You BETTER get to class EARLY or at least be there in line. They can use a fan or turn up the AC a notch for their kickboxing class but I guess it helps to make you sweat? I prefer it cooler. The Instructor was umm.. so farso good. No complaints here. =)
The kids and I absolutely love their Kid Care center. Video games, slide, coloring, movies and so much more to keep the kids entertained. I think we've found a new home... =)

A new gym is kind'a like a new car.....at first you enjoy every minute in there, but after a while, it's just a gym. This spot is still new to me so it's helped me get motivated to start gettin into shape again. New equipment and a nice set-up. Oh and they've got an elevator that takes you up to the cardio room in case you're too lazy to take the stairs or just want to save your energy for the cardio (??!!). This spot is a lot better than the one off of ST and Cottle that I used to go to, so it's worth the drive.
All new equipment, nothing bad to report. Music very loud, if you can't stand loud music this is not your place. Unlike other 24 hour fitness where you have a range of ages the average age is between 25-35.
If you are reading this review...please don't come to this location.
It's not as great as everyone says it is. In fact, it's just another gym, in another strip mall, with a bunch of trainers and machines in a 2 story building. No basketball court, and just regular people working out. Truly...nothing special.
Okay...truly...I love this gym. I don't want it getting crowded. It's truly amazing. The machines are new...so new...that they even smell new. They have so many fun toys here. They have this cool ab glider machine, 2 stretching machines that help you stretch, and these cool precor machines that make you feel like you are on the moon. If you have been, you know what I am talking about(2nd floor, those nifty glider/elypto/step machine hybrids).
-Lockers rooms are so nice
-Designated work out area for personal trainers. WAY TO GO 24 FOR LISTENING TO CLIENTS!
-nice and super clean
-staff is happy(shoot, who wouldn't be? I was)
I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! Now I see where that 3 year fee went! Nothing beat a $20/year membership, and that's why I stay with 24!

Just went tonight for the first time after reading Bobby U.'s review. I was VERY happy with this place. I live about 2 minutes away from the Parkmoor location, and was working out with a personal trainer at the Hillsdale location for about a year. Being brand new, this place is so much nicer! I love that the equipment is not only brand new, but upgraded models from what is available at all of the other 24s I have been to. I was actually a tad bit overwhelmed by the fancy machines, but then when I realized to my amazement that people were ACTUALLY WORKING OUT here, I wasn't terribly concerned that everyone was watching and laughing at me fumbling with them.
Granted, I have only visited once, and was only there for about 45 minutes, but I didn't see one person talking on their cell phone while "working out," I didn't see anyone picking up on anyone, and when I went to the ab section and saw the coolest ab exercise ever, the girls using it were friendly as I gawked at it, and consequently, them.
I like the feel of this place, and while it is farther than Parkmoor, it is brand spanking new. And while it is smaller than Hillsdale, the machine are actually functional. AMAZING!
Also, there is a Safeway right next door, which I find terribly convenient. There is also a movie theater right there. I must check it out now. I just learned about a whole new part of the world going here! Thanks, Bobby U.!!

This is a new facility, opened late February 2008. I like it because everything is new--machines, lockerrooms. It's quite clean, which is great. It's a bit cramped, and they don't have a devoted stretching area (so you have to hope there is room upstairs by the ab machines to put a mat down. I haven't had much trouble, except during afternoons when the pilates class is in session. Then there are only 2 or 3 mats available.)
The staff are nice, some of them coming from the Santa Teresa location. It's a cool gym, and since I don't need much more than weights, machines, and cardio, I'm set.

Oh hells yea! A new gym!!! I was there for opening day and thought I died and went to heaven. Ohhh the smell of new carpet, the machine seats effortlessly moving up and down, the beautiful hard wood floor in the GX room. What more could a girl ask for....well one thing would be an ab area. What's with that whole area for the trainers? Ummm where should I do my abs? The other day I had to try and make a little bit of room inbetween the wall and the hip abuductor machine. No bueno!
I love the fact that the cardio is on the second floor and of course I have my favorite treadmill up there. It sits right in front of the A/C duct...ahhhhh cool air while running. Novel idea!
TKB on Monday nights is awesome! Debbie works us hard!! 24Dance on Tuesdays is fun. I've only taken it once but Melissa seems to know what she's doing so I'll be back. 24Lift with Tammera on Thursdays is awesome!! Love her class!!!! Oh and yoga on Saturday mornings is great too!
I travel to San Jose weekly from LA and although I love the gyms in Southern Cali more since they are newer and cleaner..I went hunting for a gym that was clean and new in San Jose. This gym finally accomplished my goal.
I've tried several gyms in San Jose and this place is the newest and cleanest. The only thing I don't like, is that when your in the cardio room upstairs, the Air Conditioner is blasted and while your sweating you're also freezing. I swear I'll get sick that way ya know? So I disliked that idea. But the machines are new and clean so its pretty nifty.
Oh and the dance classes are fun! The instructor currently teaching the classes on Tuesdays is really good!
*Brand new, top of the line, fully functioning machines!
*Mens locker room is spacious, well divided, and the shower stalls have doors! (sorry guys, Shows over)
*Staff seems like they actually want to be there, not at all like prisoners working off debt to society by selling gym memberships.(Take note 24 Hillsdale!)
** Doesn't smell like jockstrap/gym socks/sports bra that has been in use for multiple years without the benefit of soap and or water!
I think I'm in love!

Coming from Club One it wasn't too hard of a fall since everything here is new.
A few downfalls that will probably will be fixed is the stretch/ab area is so minimal. (The tiny area upstairs near the stairs and elevator doesn't suffice), and the studio where classes are held is locked when not in use (due them not having locks on their free weights yet).
I'm looking forward to them getting out all the kinks.

4/7/08 update:
I am thrilled that my request for lower volume on the upper level and changing the music genre was well received and immediately implemented. Club manager Jason was friendly, professional, and cordial. Any concerns, talk directly with him. A man of action.
4/4/08 update: Okay, I've now gone to work out here 6 times in the past month and the only thing keeping me away is the f****n music. Perpetually set on loud, always the same hip hop/R&B station, and I can't stand another moment of it until something changes. Even wrote and email to the club manager detailing my angst. To be continued...
Original review:
The feel of new equipment in a gym is something I'd never experienced before today. No sounds or straining pedals as I rode a stationary bike, smooth gliding velvety surfaced treadmill as I walked and read my book, and the weight machines were glimmering. Ahh, I hope the obnoxiously loud and "whatever, they have people who work here to clean up after me" people don't gravitate to this gym...
The optimist in me hopes it won't turn to s**t. On the surface, Almaden Plaza has gone through some much needed "gentrification" and cleaning up. 24 Hour Fitness is one of 3 new businesses having opened up within the same month. Sparkly new treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, stairclimbers, and stretching area on the second floor. Thirteen large flat screen televisions for those who want to tune in while working out. Downstairs are all the weight machines and free weights, personal trainer area, locker rooms, kid's club, and solitary room/studio for group classes. In its first week of being open, this gym went from being not even a quarter filled at 5 p.m. to nearly packed at 6 p.m. - especially upstairs, and people were streaming in the front door. I'll be sure to go earlier from now on because I hate crowded gyms.
Spacious, well planned out, and easy to move freely without feeling cramped/cluttered from one location/station to the next.
Music at a non-invasive volume BEFORE 5:30 p.m., lockers plentiful inside the locker room, 8 individual showers with DOORS!, and welcoming entryway with 2 plush chairs alongside sales area and counter for getting card scanned. Classes listed on this week's schedule were: mat Pilates, Zumba, Camp24, 24Cycle, Yoga, TKB, 24S.E.T., 24Dance, and 24Lift. Pretty impressive!

I love this gym. The staff were very nice. The machines are brand new. It is much cleaner than Santa Teresa. I will be going to this one from now on.
This gym is soooo much nicer than the one on Santa Teresa that always has broken machines and looks dirty.
Worked out here for the first time tonight, hoping it would be less crowded and cleaner than ST, and it was! It's so clean with nice locker rooms and brand new machines. Definitely makes working out more enjoyable when the gym looks as nice as this one.
People at the front desk didn't seem very friendly, so that is why only four stars not five.
I will definitely be going to this one instead of ST from now on.
This is where I start my reconfigured new Bod!!!!! New equipment, New ME!!! Check it out!!!!

I'm not a fan at all. I was so stoked to hear a new 24 hour was opening up and so damn bummed to find out it was nothing I expected. Granted, its not full of old Asian ladies with no sports bras stepping on treadmills on either side of you and talking in another language as though you aren't standing there TRYING to get a serious workout in like ST but its SMALL. They really didn't think this gym all the way through. There is no stretching area unless they consider the small ab zone the area for stretching. Everything is crowded downstairs with no room to really lift weights without being in everyone else's way and the classes area is always locked. When i asked one of the employees if they had an area to stretch they looked at me like i was crazy. Um hellllloooo stretching is pretty damn important, EVERYONE should be doing it, therefore, there should be SOMEPLACE to stretch. The guy ended up telling me that there was a stretching cage. Okay, one stretching cage. That's their solution. Pretty lame.
On the upside everything IS brand new and thats fine and dandy until the gym starts filling up and getting run down just like the ST 24 hour... The showers are already starting to get that grimy look in between the tiles.... If club one can keep their floors sparkling and white, 24 hour can. Right?
They do have a personal training area though which is pretty cool for those who use the trainers but it makes me jealous of all that space i could be using to do some stretching or stability ball exercises..
I dont know, i'm pretty disappointed,

Awesome, new 24 Hour location. The equipment is great, including the set of equipment designed for a quick workout that moves your body as you pull or push on the bars. All of the equipment is brand new, top of the line stuff. The locker rooms are clean, with nice tile floors and wood-veneer lockers and wood benches. The showers have doors, which is nice, and the shower area looks clean. The locker rooms don't (yet) smell. Hopefully all of the above can be maintained, because that seems to be the biggest weakness of the 24 Hour chain: keeping their gyms clean. I've gone to this location at various times of the day and week, and it has never been so crowded that I couldn't use the equipment I wanted, unlike the Hillsdale location down the street which gets crammed during peak hours. The cardio area is upstairs, and I have a feeling that area is going to get mighty warm during the summer. They do have large AC units up there though, so I am hoping they can keep it cool. I would give this place 5 stars, but they don't have a sauna and steam room. The check-in staff is also lacking some basic friendliness. Other than that, the location is perfect.
24 hour fitness is coming to willow glen!! this brand spankin' new 24 hour is not only 2 stories tall but also an active club! i can't wait to get my workout on here! there is going to be brand new equipment to use and group x classes as well! this new 24 is located off of almaden expressway on almaden road in the shopping center with safeway, dippin dots and a movie theatre! what a great location for a new 24 hour fitness! i will be coming to this place pretty often because of the new equipment. i love new gyms!
