I've stopped going to this location for several reasons. Not that it is really that bad, but I found the staff to be unfriendly and it is a bit far from my house. I do like the fact that is is really close to the freeway, so if you go before work, it is not a hassle to get caught in traffic on the freeway and get frustrated because you are now running late. It is a bit weird that the cardio machines are placed against mirrors, so you are pretty much staring at yourself and your increasingly tired and sweaty physique. It does have the largest free weight area of any 24 location in San Jose and I hardly ever see a machine out of order. I do like the smoothie bar as well.

Parkmoor - nice and large
This particular branch is amazingly large. Even when compared to the Super ones down in LA or what have you......ok well nothing really compares to the Super branches (more like mall filled with weights really) but as for the local area it's pretty big. I like the room and space you get here. Even though I work out during off hours this place is empty when ever I go here during day light hours. I don't think it's 24 hours open so minus a star for that. Otherwise I wish it were closer because I do think it is cleaner than most other branches.
I live about 2 minutes away from this gym. I'm so close that I think I could bike here faster than I could drive. But if I biked to the gym, I wouldn't need to flipping go to the gym, as I would have just exercised to get there. I would also need to have a bike, which I do not, since some lovely soul in Colorado decided to steal my bike when I was away on spring break in Mazatlan back in college. But I digress.
I like the layout of this gym. It's open and easy to maneuver around the machines. They have a separate room for free-weights, and a good selection of both cardio and weight machines. They have a juice bar thing where you can buy bottled beverages, as well.
I started out coming here because I was seeing a personal trainer (and by seeing I mean paying him to make me work out) who got transferred to the Hillsdale location, which is the only reason I stopped going here regularly. Now that I have gotten to the point where I, sadly, can't afford my personal trainer anymore, and I NEED to be working out regularly, I will most likely be coming here again, although I just discovered their newest location (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which rocks!
My only real beef with this location are the other clients. They are always flipping talking with each other instead of working out. So inevitably, I will get stuck on a machine right next to the guy gabbing away on his cell phone, or the girl who is finding all sorts of long lost friends that day at the gym. It drives me bonkers. I don't go to the gym to socialize. I go to get rid of my gut, which I lovingly refer to as my fat-baby. Once I am done with that task, I am all for the socializing, but I will most likely do that somewhere other than the gym.

I came in with a card given to me by a member; "30 free days for you and 3 friends!" it said. It was given to me in November. There was no expiration date listed.
My partner and I went in to see about signing up for these 30 days. We're given a form and told to fill it out while we wait.
Erik comes over, calling me by someone else's name. We're led to his desk.
We tried explaining to him we were kind of in a hurry, my husband had to get back to work. He had to look at every page of the binder, his spiel was not memorized, or all that enthusiastic, for that matter.
He told us we could "trade in" the 30 day trial for a good discount on membership, and went to ask someone about what that discount would be. Though it seemed to me the whole purpose of a trial membership was to let the gym "sell itself" so he wouldn't have to. He came back and told us the current month promotion, to say nothing of what 'extra' trading in this free trial would do.
He came and left several times, asking people about what discount that could give me versus through my school, and so on, even though we really weren't ready to sign up for anything. We finally clarified we wanted the 30 days, then he had to go check to see if it was actually good for both of us, despite the card clearly saying "for you and 3 friends!"
Manager comes over, falls out of the chair, and says he can't give us the 30 days, because there's a print date on the card that says 2006. Note, it was just a PRINT date, not an EXPIRATION date. There was no expiration date.
He says the best he can do is give us 9 days free. Why 9 I don't know, as it seemed to be a numeric entry field and they probably could have put whatever they wanted (especially as manager?)
While we wait and wait for all this to be processed, some employees about 10 feet away are laughing at Erik's sock color and goofing around. Rather reminded me of high school.
FINALLY we're done with the agonizing process, not getting what was clearly given as a marketing promotion. I take my guest pass and go to the locker room to change. But when I come out....there were absolutely no cardio machines available (except a couple broken ones, of course).
So we were given the useless runaround, no apology for their inability, and are made to feel like they are doing us SUCH a big favor by giving us 1/3 of the free time we were supposed to have.
And you want me to spend $120 to stand around? If I'm going to pay for a gym membership, I want to be able to USE it.
Three attempts on 3 different times and days...cardio equipment (elliptical, stairstepper, treadmill) were NEVER available. I'm not even going to bother spending the gas to try going again.
Two stars; the facility was relatively clean, but the treatment and lack of available equipment has thoroughly convinced me not to give them my business.

I love working out here! Trainers are friendly and always ready to answer your questions, its clean, nice layout and always clean! The reason for 4 stars is the parking!! It can be a nightmare on a regular basis! Not their fault, but it is the location they picked! I also get unfriendly vibes from some of the young girls checkin in! Kinda snotty at times and will stare me down...I find that rude and uncomfortable since I am slightly over weight and doing what I can to trim down before my wedding...overall though its a great place!
Jeez, from reading other Yelp reviews on this place, it makes me feel like I'm at a different spot than the rest of y'all. This place has been begging for my written review going on a few years now. I should start by saying that it "can" be a decent gym in which to work out if you are not looking for real cleanliness, a friendly staff, and a fully functioning set of equipment. Also noteworthy is that between the hours of 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., it is a zoo. I had temporarily forgotten this today, as I tend to go before 4:30 most weekdays, and wound up getting the ever-so-in-your-face reminder of the local neighborhood vibe: obnoxiously loud handful of guys who feel compelled to "whoop" whenever someone they know walks past. Then, the obligatory knuckle tap (what is this obsession guys have in touching fists???). This gym during peak hours is a social scientist's dream - fake boobs, real boobs, tall, short, flabby, tight bodied, steroid use, wrinkles, total range in age and ethnic variation, cauliflower eared wrestlers, shy bookworms, sweaty weight lifters, cardio junkies, tatted up cholos, homos, heteros, fully made-up-to-work-out older ladies, those seeking to look, and those seeking to be looked at.
The music is louder during peak times, and I suppose it's to overpower the interest in people communicating at a "normal" tone of voice when working out near each other. Definitely a spacious gym in terms of square footage, but it feels cramped in many areas. The women's locker room is gross, as are many of the machines which people often don't bother wiping down after use. I'm sorry, it needed to be said. Additionally, I have my serious doubts about the expertise levels in their personal trainers.
It's relatively close to where I live, but I am soooo looking forward to the opening of the Almaden Plaza 24 Hour Fitness this Friday. At least that new gym will be clean, and when I popped my head in last week to check on progress, all the guys near the front door were smiling. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

One of the staples of the 24 Hour Fitness chain for the San Jose area. This gym has a lot of cardio machines and is pretty up to date with new equipment. The classes are extensive and the room is very spacious.
This gym probably has the largest free weight section amongst all the bay area 24 Hour's. It's awesome. It's got free weights on both sides of the room, and plenty of benches in between.
Like most 24 Hour's the parking lot sucks during peak hours, but even so, you don't have to walk that far if you have to park near the post office.

This is a big gym. On the plus side, this gives my wannabe-recovering fat ass lots of different things to try without feeling too close to my fellow gym patrons. On the other hand, it can feel a little overwhelming.
I do like the variety and number of machines, though. And I think this was the first gym where I felt like I wasn't the only fat chick. I also tried the Monday night yoga class this week and it totally kicked my ass. I'll be back.

still love this place! I love the stretching area...and it's the best location to do that!

4.5 to this place!!!
Bright, airy, and love the layout. They even have a juice bar +++
Parking can be an issue because it's in the same strip mall as the foodmaxx. Either way, the only reason I took off .5 stars is because it has no pool, and no basketball court and small "dressing room" for women. It does however, have a visible group class room, lots of trainers, and FLAT SCREEN TV's! Moreover, love that this location is fairly close to my home. Unfortunately, traffic after work is killer and I can't get there in time to get a machine. Prime time is 6-745, so subsequently, I opt to avoid traffic and head to Mountain View or Sunnyvale.

I like this gym. I've been going there for a while. Lots of machines that actually work. I've been to gyms where a lot of machines are out of order. There is a guy there named John that does all the maintenance and keeps them up and running. I've been there at all different times and never have a long wait to use a machine.
The free weight room is another story. Very, very unorganized. You will find a 20 lbs dumbbell next to a 80 lbs dumbbell. Good luck finding the matching 20 lbs dumbbell because it's probably across the room. I once asked the manager if they could ever take some time and organize the weights and he said "that would take hours and wouldn't last." I've been to other gyms and the weights are at least close to each other. This one is a mess!
They have many cardio machines here. Never a wait to use them. I only use the elliptical. There is a row of about 12, but people only use 6 of them. The other six are really old. They also have many treadmills and various machines to get your heart pumping.
I recently started using a trainer. I have been going to this gym for over six years and never wanted to use the trainers I saw there because most of them didn't look like trainers to me. What the hell do I know. Then I noticed a trainer there that actually looked like a trainer and seemed to know what she was doing. So I gave her a try. She kicked my ass! Her name is Stace. If you are thinking about using a trainer ask for her. She's great.
So all in all, it's a nice gym. Lots of regulars that practice gym etiquette. Front desk staff is nice. Not that expensive. If you are looking for a gym this is a good one to try.

All I can say is THANK GOD THEY STARTED RENOVATING.
The last time that I went to this gym (maybe 3 or 4 months ago) the locker rooms were nasty, nasty, nasty. The tiles were gross, there was a stench about the locker room, and the lockers were in need of serious repair. I went there last Saturday, and found that they have renovated the locker rooms (FINALLY!) with new lockers, new tiles, and the smell seemed to have gone bye bye.
They've also replaced all the TVs with sexy flat panels, as well.
Machinery seems to be in pretty good repair, and they replaced a bunch of the bikes to new ones, too.
Overall great gym. Much larger than the Hillsdale one, with a better assortment of machinery. I still like the Hillsdale one better, but will go here once-in-a-while to stir it up for my people-watching habit.

I am a recovering ClubOneaholic, and had a great deal of difficulty coming to terms with my decision to forgo my Club One membership in favor of financial responsibility and join a cheaper (i.e. dirtier, older, and all around suckier) gym.
I went to the Sunnyvale and Hillsdale location and figured I was just going to have to suck it up and tolerate my new work-out locale.
But then I went to Parkmoor and it was well-lit! and it had high ceilings! and for whatever strange psychological reason, the spacious feeling made it all OK again.
My membership included 5 personal training sessions which I had very low expectations of, so when the manager asked my if I preferred a male or female trainer is said 'Just give me someone good' with just a little despondence and resignation in my voice.
Well, he did. I met with Stacy Dickinson for 5 sessions over 5 weeks, and she is fantastic! She invented a game called Wedding Dress Bootcamp, and the sessions were fun, and certainly had me work WAY harder than I ever do on my own, and I'm no slouch.
So I do miss the personal TVs at Club One from time to time, but this location is the saving grace of cheap gyms.

It is what it is. I like this gym mainly because it's convenient. It's also well-lit and the weight room is separate which I like... and it has great Group X classes (but so do the other ones).... it's a bit older than some of the other 24 hours I have been to but it's all good. Now if only I could see the TV (they got new LCD's!) from the treadmill I would be set... I get extremely bored staring at the posters on the wall when I run.. and looking at myself in the mirror is distracting..

This 24 Hour Fitness location is my home away from home. I spend my time here doing cardio, free weights, and weight machines. The cardio equipment is generally in good, clean condition, and what I like about this location better than Hillsdale is that there is generally not a wait for the equipment. They recently installed paper towel machines and spray bottles of cleaner to wipe down the equipment before or after use. As others have said, the free weight area at this gym is big, albeit a little bit stuffy. The weight equipment is in good condition, and the instructions are easy to read. In the summer, this place gets a bit stuffy and I wish their A/C was a bit more powerful, but the facility is very large, and usually not crowded. The locker room is recently renovated with larger, newer lockers. The showers are not bifurcated (just one big shower room), and the bathroom doesn't seem very well ventilated. There is a juice bar with various power bars and juices.

Pretty big place with lots of equipment. There is a huge room with two walls of mirrors for free weights, a large open room for machine weights, and two areas of cardio machines, and a large gym, a decent (but kind of small) locker room, plus lots of parking out front in the strip mall. They have everything you could need. But it is not that special or sparkling clean. Just ordinary, not too old, not too new. Just a plain gym with everything, including a lot of people during the afternoon rush. Including some really rude black dudes who were just sitting on the weight bench just talking about how they don't like white people. I don't care what you think, just don't say it so loud.
this is my favorite 24 hour fitness!! it's big, clean and new!! i like that is has a huge selection of cardio machines and a separate weight room too. there is also a group x room all the way in the back! the locker rooms are kind of weird though. it reminds me of an ice skating rink bathroom. there is never a wait for the cardio machines and they have 4 stairmasters!! the weight room is pretty messy but i only use like 12 pounders so it's not hard for me to locate. there is also a juice bar here so you can get a smoothie after your workout!!

Good free weights section. Good range of machines, and not too crowded especially if you go weekend mornings.
Shower rooms could be cleaner, but usually is just about acceptable. Urinals seem to be out of commision more often than not.
Not really 24 hours. which pisses me off - not that I go to the gym at 2am in the morning, but what the heck, they should call themselves," 24 hour fitness, except on weekends and bank holidays when we are 19 hour fitness."
Oh and if you go early enough in the mornings, you'll sometimes find pot smokers in the changing rooms. A little annoying if you are not that way inclined.
Machines are well kept though, for an older gym.
(Addition on the 1-dec-2007) Every 24 hr fitness I frequent seem to have their own weird people. I've recently begun to notice Mr Belagio. Not quite sure why he does it, but when he is in the showers, he turns on all the showers and makes kind of a shower fountain. Totally innocuous, just kind of peculiar.

this is an ok gym with decent amount of equipment. I like it because it does a well job in separating meatheads from people that just want to maintain a healthy cardio-vascular work out. There's a also a basketball court and they hold classes.
the staff, just like any other franchise, sucks. Their over aggressive tactics makes you not wanting to ever join - which i haven't. I just got lucky and continued to get in for free. Ha!
anyhoots - if possible, go for something cheaper - a gym is an ok gym if they have well maintained equipment.
