Review from Michiko H.
Honolulu, HI
I've been to the downtown and mililani 24 hour fitness and compared to the one on Kam I have to say the Kam one is the best. Its a 2 story building were the top floor has the treadmills, cycles, basket balls, stretch area with weights & balls, gym shop, and drink & protein bars. Bottom floor has all the weight machines, dance studio (for all the classes), swimming pool, and sauna.
I have to say this Gym does get busy at times so if you don't mind people near you than your fine.Getting a spot on the treadmill is hard at times between 5-7:30pm.
Also their classes are kick-ass! If you do zumba make sure to go on Mondays @ 6 I forgot the instructors name but she's great and popular! All the other classes like hula, cycling, kickboxing, and fit training is excellent. Also I love their sauna and pool! its always nice to detox by sweating and full length workout with a good swim.
Lockers though are a smelly and if your paranoid bring a lock! -
Review from Josh D.
Honolulu, HI
What I like about this gym is that there is an abundance of parking, the towel service and fairly new machines. Somethings that took stars away were the lack of variety for machines. The Kapiolani had variety of back machines, abs, shoulders, legs etc. but at this gym, you had to use what was available. Another thing was that considering that this is a super sport, it needed more restrooms. only two toilets for the men along with the community one for family? It seems like there are more showers rather than toilets... which is used more?
The group x room is a shame... It gets crowded every night yet the basketball courts which are larger, handles a fraction of the amount of people that takes classes. The ventilating and air conditioning system is horrible and almost everyday the mirrors fog up because of the body heat and the sweat that they have to open up the emergency exit door to cool the room down. I don't understand why they can't have occasional classes in the basketball courts that can handle larger crowds?
All in all, it's an alright gym and it does have its pluses. The gym needs to start getting other classes involved though such as TRX or RIPPED that the other competitive gyms offer. If I'm going to pay membership a month, I would like to see a variety of classes that appeals to all it users. -
Review from Emy R.
Kapolei, HI
I've been going to 24 Hours Fitness Pearl City for several months and since this is the only gym I've been to, I can't compare it other gyms but I love this gym. There are 2 levels. Upstairs has the cardio machines and a basketball court. Downstairs there are free weights and weight machines. Group room for classes, pool, sauna, whirlpool and locker room. Haven't tried any of the group classes but apparently they are very popular as the classes usually have people lined up for them.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. If you have any questions about the machines they will actually show you how to use it and give you advice on how long to workout on it and what resistance to use. If you want to work a certain area of your body, you can ask the staff and they will tell you what machine or weight to use.
Disinfectant and paper towels throughout the gym, so you can wipe down your machine before and after you use it.
Towel Service which is great since you don't have to bring towels from home.
Showers have body soap.
They sell chilled protein drinks, water, and other beverages, They also have protein bars and other merchandise, like apparel, locks (if you forget to bring yours) etc. If you put your credit card on file, you won't need to carry any cash with you. You can just pay with what's on file and you even get a discount.
Lots of parking and if you workout during the evenings like I do there is security always around so you feel safe walking to your car even if it's late at night.
It can crowded and busy during the evenings. I go there about 7pm and most of the machines are taken but usually by the time I finish stretching and warming up, a machine will open. If you're working out by yourself, it's not too bad. I've noticed people who are there with a friend or two, usually want machines next to each other but that's kind of hard. If you're not comfortable with crowds go in the afternoon or early evening. Personally the crowds don't bother me though.
Downstairs in the weight area some times people hog the machines. They're not using it, instead they're sitting there talking with their friend or texting! If you're done, move on so other people can use it.
Women's showers can get gross sometimes. People leave their soaking wet towels in the shower stalls, disregarded razors, shampoo bottles etc. Clean up after yourselves and don't leave your disregarded things in the stalls. How hard is it to pick it up and throw it in the rubbish that just so happens to be right outside the shower stalls? Come on. Don't expect other people to clean up after you. That's just disgusting.
Special shout out to Shayne,Tabbie and Xandria who are usually at the front when I check in. They are always so friendly and helpful. -

Eugene, OR
3.6 stars if I could.
After coming from the Leeward YMCA, this place is the Cathedral of Milan. It is huge and has A LOT of machines. A basketball court, a cycling room, a 24 hour pool plus a steam room/sauna... this place is fancy. Getting in is a finger scan and a lot of lockers have a self-setting lock. It makes attending the gym really convenient.
The machine diversity is pretty good however there are machines in every nook and craney and some of the machines don't indicate the muscle groups it works on. That's a bit of a disappointment to me. Weight room really on has one machine of the same type but there are a wide variety of machines to chose from. For the aerobic area, there's a lot of machines of the same type. Definitely a good thing for when it gets crowded.
And this gym does get crowded! At the Y, I was a bit spoiled. On Sundays I'd share the workout room with 2 or 3 other people... Definitely not the case for this 24. I've visited the gym during peak hours and I refuse to go. I usually head over after 9pm. At 9, it's still pretty crowded but I can get an open machine. By 10 it's thinned out. Mondays are the busiest and, as usual, throughout the week it lessens.
Going late at night does have it's downfalls. Today was the first day I tried the pool so I had to venture further into the female locker room. It was disgusting. Used Q-tips, hair, random plastic on the ground. Every locker room has its grossness but it all looked out of place with the fancy, upscale decor of this locker room. It wasn't too bad but i'm thinking of ways I can avoid changing there (like wearing my suit to the gym).
As far as the aerobics area (treadmills, elliptical, cycles, etc), only a few machines have a tv attached. Those tvs are really limited on channels. I know HSN, CNN, CBS and whatever KITV is on... then a few more channels. The overhead tvs are limited to whatever it's on, which is unfortunate because half the tvs are on ESPN. It doesn't make sense to me and it's a bit frustrating. I really want to watch HLN and i've seen HLN on those tvs before but idk. Once, before I left, I asked if those tvs can be changed; one girl said yes as long as no one is watching it and another girl said they aren't allowed to according to their boss. It's whatever, but I do wish there were more channel selections... If only there were some Disney, History, Discover, Animal Planet, or anything like that.
For a long time i've always wanted a gym that had an empty room with a tv and dvd player. That way I'd have a place in the gym to work on Insanity or P90X or something. I think that'd be great... just wanted to add in my suggestion. -

Another awesome boot camp!! Like the last one, this was really different from previous ones. This one was more focused on toning, having more weights and some of my favorites: TRX and (mini) slosh pipes! :D But there was of course the killer cardio exercises too like burpees, agility drills, and box jump style stations. My new knots and aches that I can already feel coming on from today will just have to become friends with the knots and aches from my last workout a couple days ago. :)

I love coming here! The staff is friendly and always willing to help. It gets busy at times but that's expected when the atmosphere is so great! I also like the fact that they tell you about specials and discounts! Keep up the good work 24 hour fitness

Review from Rise D.
I still go to this gym but am really disgusted by some of the inconsiderate people who work out here. JUST PUT YOUR USED TOWELS INTO ONE OF THE MANY BINS LOCATED ALL OVER THE GYM. The custodians are there to maintain cleanliness, not there to pick up your used towel that you were too lazy to dump into the bin yourself. Re-stack the weights instead of leaving them on the floor. Cannot believe how many people do not pick up after themselves. And don't forget to wipe down the machines! The stairmaster I went on was sticky!! so gross!!!!

Review from Jesse T.
I've been a member of 24 hr for several years now. I haven't been to all of the locations but the locations themselves are pretty convenient. Maybe they might need one in Kapolei? Since everything is getting built out on that side. Having the convenience of being able to go to any 24hr fitness on the island is a definite plus for me considering that I'm always all over the place.
Because this location is a Super Sport, the price to go this place is more expensive. I believe it's around $50/month. I, on the other hand was fortunate to get the 3 year up front deal. Every year afterwards is only $120/year. They don't offer this deal anymore from what I've heard.
This place is located in Pearl Highlands. In the same vicinity as Sam's club, Regal Theaters and Ross. So there's a lot of parking both covered and uncovered (top level).
This 24hr has a lot of machines and stations. They have:
-Lots of Cardio Stations
-Lots of Free weight Stations
-Lots of Machine weight stations
-Big Cycling Room
-Basketball Court
-Small Swimming pool
-Small Jacuzzi
-Sauna
-Aerobics room
-TRX Station (Newly Added)
-Boxing Station (Newly Added)
-Locker rooms with showers
-Child Care
***QUICK TIP***
Although this place is pretty big, it still can get really busy. I would say peak times when it's the most busiest are from around 4pm-10pm. Everyone comes after work so try to avoid these times.
I'm in the process of getting back into shape so I've been coming here a lot. I know a lot of us yelpers eat a lot so If you don't have a pass, get one and try to live healthy and work out on a regular basis so you can have a longer life and yelp more!!! Hopefully I'll see some of you guys here and if you see me, don't be afraid to say Hi!!!
Final Comments: If you're curious, go check it out and ask for a guest pass. You might have to fill out paperwork though so they can follow-up with you to join. Let's stay healthy everyone!
Overall Rating: "EXCELLENT" This 24 has the most up to date equipment even though some of them might be temporarily out of service. It happens... Check it out!Listed in: I Work Out!!!, SHTF

Review from Nikki A.
Machines are awesome there, however everything else is the opposite.
Went there to try it out with a guest pass. The front desk girl said "sure!" I filled out a info. card and waited a while for a rep. I told him I have a regular membership and I've been a member for 10 years. I usually go to Bishop or Kapiolani. I wanted to maybe upgrade to the Sport since my boyfriend goes there. The Rep. said unfortunately I have to pay $20 for a day or just upgrade. I was shocked! I couldn't believe they wouldn't let me try it?!?? My boyfriend and his 2 friends were already inside. So, I called my boyfriend to come back out. My bf told the rep that he probably wanted to cancel his upgraded membership since they wouldn't let me test it out for free. The rep. told my bf he needed to slow his roll and that he was thinking about letting me go in, but now my bf ruined it. Who says that? My bf apologized sincerely and so the rep. said okay and let me in.
It was 7pm on a week night and OMG there were sooooo many people. I couldn't even work out with my friend because there were no cardio machines together. Most of the empty cardio machines were broken. The downstairs machine room was filled with guys, more than I see at the other gyms. Super uncomfortable for girls to be working out by themselves. There was no where to work out so I ended doing cardio the entire time.
I'd rather save my extra $240 a year and go to Bishop and Kapiolani. The machines and weights might be older, but at least its comfortable.
I also, don't really want to go back to a gym where the rep. was very demeaning..... -
Review from Mel G.
I've worked in the fitness industry at several different places before so take that experience.
As far as gyms go its pretty clean and if you time your visit right, not too crowded. I mainly signed up because they had a indoor fitness pool. I can be a wimp in the winter and like having the water a bit warmer. I have been swimming my whole life and love being able to do laps year round. Well first off they have so many chemicals in this pool you feel like you lost a few years worth of skin layers. Second the "pool mafia". There is a group of extremely rude elderly people who get angry and yell at you if you splash them. They say you're getting their hair wet and so on. Everyone there thinks they are being ridiculous and people stop coming in for laps. The Manager gave them several "last" warnings and finally we just quit for his lack of initiative and continuing to suffer for something we paid for. You shouldn't have to deal with rude people and get stressed out while working out. That's supposed to relieve stress.
Besides the horrible pool situation which the manager keeps sweeping under the rug, the personal trainers are abundant. I had one session with a super nice lady. They all seem knowledgeable and fun.
When my friend quit the manager seemed to care less, but was visibly irritated when I cancelled as I was the 3rd in line to do so. Just some things to be aware of if you consider joining.
I will not be going back next year though. I'll just get a wetsuit and deal. -

Parking here is great and it's covered! You never have to bring towels because they provide the towels, small or big. Best time to come here is morning between 5:30 and 7:30 am because it's not that crowded.
There's sauna and steam room and an indoor pool also. They've got tons of classes if you're interested in taking cycling, kick boxing, zumba, yoga etc....they got it. -

I've decided that Justin Timberlake was right I need to bring Sexy back for myself! If you see a picture of me back in high school you would have thought I was starving myself but believe me I was eating 5x more back in High School than I am now. Yep my lucky jeans decided to leave me :(
So my bf and I decided to finally make a commitment and sign up for membership. It was after 11pm and we wanted to sign up and possibly start using our membership the day after. I was surprised that there were actually still membership workers still there available to take you on a tour and sit down with you and talk to you about the fees and etc. And the assistant manager assisted us with our membership and he was so helpful and very knowledgeable of the services they provide. I am for sure not the most motivated person when it comes to working out so I decided to hire a Personal Trainer for the first month. They have 3 (1 hour) sessions with your trainer available.
I really like this gym because it is massive it is called a Super 24 Hour Fitness so they have to live up to their name!
On the main level, there are
+ lots of machines to get you started with your workouts
+ they have a full size basketball court
+ a mini sport snack store
+ TV's to watch while working out, yep I was watching Sex & The City during my whole warmup exercise. It sure does take your mind off the time and get you going!
+ Lockers to store your bags, shoes & etc.
+ Kids Room for you little ones to enjoy while you get your Sexy back.
+ Towels & used towel drop box
Bottom Floor:
+ Pool & Jacuzzi
+ Private room for classes to attend (free to all members)
+ Weight Room
+ Bathroom
+ Separate area to work with yoga balls, mats to work on your abs
This place is worth paying for and especially the personal trainer... My PT is Brenda and she is such an awesome person to train with. She knows what she is doing and also is getting her masters in Nutrition. She definitely cares about her clients and focus on the things that I want to work on. She takes her time and does not rush me during our sessions. We set goals for my workouts and she gives me a list of what I can do at home to adapt to this type of lifestyle. At the end of our sessions we talk about my food intake and the good veggies & fruits.
I honestly should have enrolled in membership years ago but I am glad I am making something out of this. The only drawback is that it does get smelly because of all the people in there but can't really complain about that because I maybe the stinky one too (well I hope not) :)

Review from Thomas O.
Back in June, I evaluated myself.
From top to bottom, I made it a point to find what aspects of myself I wanted to improve and what I was already doing that will keep me going in the right direction.
One of them is getting into shape. I've never been "thin," nor have I felt that I needed to be, but I'm getting to the age where my health is only going to mean more and more as I progress through the years. Getting my health on is my priority right now.
My other problem is that I sit at a computer all day for 7-8 hours.
Working in an office is pretty suffocating for me.
I enjoyed working in a store because I got to move around whenever I got bored looking at something. The work day just went by faster. Now that I'm working extra hours in a confined space, I get stir crazy. I also make friends which is when I was able to get the hook-up for a discounted membership to this premium super sports club.
I snatched it right up and came here that night. I've been going here ever since, but I also have access to other clubs like Bishop and Mililani if I ever need to go somewhere closer to home or school.
I like Pearl City because it is of course the newest and largest club in Hawaii.
Their mix of machines is astounding and I can always find one that I'm willing to use.
I like to try different ones to see which I like better. I'm very partial to the ellipticals, crossplanes, bikes, and the Hoist weight machines downstairs.
I hope that I can stick with this as school will be keeping me busier than ever. I just need my buds Nicole and Riana to come with me :)

You def have to go at a certain time of the day if you want to a specific work out, unless you don't mind working in sets with people. Best times I have found out to go are 6am, 12pm. Have not gone after 12pm. Before these times I have noticed that the cardio machines are always full, benches are always used and the squat machines are always being used. There are not alot of medicine balls to do ab workouts. The two small ares to do the ab works out are normally full. But just wait 10 mins and a spot will be free.
Other than that the this 24hr gym is really nice. It is very big and the equipment is not close together unlike its sister gym in Mililani. -

Waipahu, HI
i've been a member of Pearl City's 24 Hour Fitness for over a year. had to recently cancel my membership because i haven't been going as much as before. the cost of a monthly membership to this gym is expensive and i wouldn't want to waste money for something i don't even go to anymore...
this was my first gym that i've ever joined. overall, i think the gym is quite nice. when you enter, u see the front desk. they have towel service, which is great if you didn't bring your own towel. some of the front desk people were nice and welcoming. unfortunately, a few of them just talk story to eachother and not pay attention to other members and make them wait for service. they need to improve on that.
on that floor, u can find the cardio exercise equipment such as elipticals, stairmaster, treadmills, etc... they also have a basketball court.... downstairs is dedicated to weight training and the group exercise room. you can also find the locker rooms, showers, pool, sauna, etc...
it does get crowded during the evening hours and people have to sometimes wait for others to be done using the equipment. i mostly go there to take their fitness classes.
i loved going to the Zumba and Turbokick classes. Brandy's Zumba class is full most of the time, but so much fun. Dennis' Turbokick class is awesome, as well... get a real good workout. would be nice if they expanded the group exercise room to accommodate more people for the popular classes. it gets so crowded in there. everybody has to squeeze in to get into a spot. not a lot of room to exercise sometimes.
overall, i think this gym is not bad at all... it's just that membership is expensive. if they would lower the price of membership, then it will be ideal, but i don't think they will do that. oh wellz... -
Review from Jenn Y.
This is my gym. I come here about 3-4x a week to workout here.
Membership can be pricey since this is super sport gym and they offer towel service. The staff is very friendly, the place is very clean and they keep up with the maintenance of their equipment. They have a pool, sauna and steam room. The trainers are friendly too. I learned a lot from them however it can be pricey. They have a lot of classes to help change up your workout like yoga, Zumba, pilates, Piyo and Will power and Grace. I go to all of them in the morning. I use to work out in the evening but it can get packed.
I have to admit I never really been a fitness person but coming here has been great and I have been able to keep weight off so I am happy to have a place to go to where I can de-stress.Listed in: Frequently visted places that…

Review from Chad Y.
I just moved to this area, so this gym is new to me. I normally don't like breaking in new gyms. It just throws off my workouts, but this one is so pretty that I don't mind it so much. The new equipment is awesome and it is a little nice to have towels you don't have to bring yourself, however, I would be fine not having to pay $10 a month just for free towels. And they don't always have the small ones, so sometimes you have to lug around the full size ones. It looks like everyone in the gym just came from the shower. Kinda ghetto! $10 is not a lot but just saying, get with it 24hr! lol. I am looking forward to going to the pool one day. It looks nice and after you can have a steam... with a stranger... if you're lucky. Hahaha. I'd rather not, but who knows. One thing about this place is that it is on different levels and if I want to do some cardio after weights I have to climb two flights of stairs! What is the deal with that? You want me to do more cardio when I want to do cardio? I say boo! Because sometimes when you are really hitting the stair climber and your backside has taken all it can you don't want to walk MORE STAIRS. Besides that I like this gym.

I love this gym. It can get very crowded in the evenings but the facility is always very clean, the staff have been very helpful and the classes are phenomenal.
The gym itself is absolutely huge and the equipment is really well maintained. There's also a sauna, pool and steam room if you need to veg out after a hard workout.
There are two levels for parking so you never have to worry about finding a spot.
I'm here all the time and absolutely love it. -

You ever wanted to maximize your time in paradise? Did you ever want to do as many sweaty-touristy things before you hop on a night flight, but were too afraid because you'd be too odoriferous for that long flight back to the mainland? A lei you'd be-- not.
Fret no longer. Do what I do (if you have world wide access membership to 24 Hour Fitness that is). Just continue your hot, sweaty, dirty chores, around Oahu, then hop in one of these clubs, work out a little, then take a shower, change to new travel clothes, and finally hop on your rental car to head for the airport and Aloha!!
(I like this 24 Pearl City, location. It's clean and staff seem friendly. It's a bit crowded in the parking area, but hey, I'm not from here. All I know is, it is just about the same standard as carefully cared for 24 Hour Fitness in the Bay Area.) -
Review from Bryson C.
Kaneohe, HI
Whether you need to get in shape, or you just want to maintain a healthier lifestyle, there's really no place better than 24 and the new Pearl City location is just wonderful. All of the gym equipment is new and runs well and the staff is incredibly helpful.
When you first sign up, you get hooked up with a training session and my trainer was excellent. He pushed me pretty hard and I walked out of there feeling like a bag of bruises, but I know that he helped out a lot with some workout tips and long term goals.
They also have a wide array of fitness classes for those who are interested like Zumba and Hip hop, etc. I don't take part in those classes, but they seem incredibly popular because there is always a good amount of people in there working up a sweat.
There's also a basketball court where you and some friends can play and there's a pool downstairs where 2 or 3 people can swim laps at a time. By the pool there's also a steam room and a sauna, neither of which I've had a chance to use yet, but I plan on it sometime soon.
The only gripe I have about the place (which isn't really a fault of their own) is that once people get out of work, they flock over to the gym and it stays crowded for several hours. During this time it's almost impossible to get on any of the machines. Luckily during the Summer I've been able to work out in the early afternoon and there's no trouble getting on any of the machines.
Overall, though, this place is great. The only reason it got four stars is because of how crowded it gets, but if you go early or late enough, that shouldn't be a problem at all. -

I LOVE this 24!!! There is an absolute TON of free parking, and it is in a very conveninet location for anyone on the West Side. They offer free towel service and all of the staff are extremely friendly and knowlegable.
The Kid's Club is HUGE and the staff here are amazing with children of all ages. Lori, Andrea and Spencer are my son's favorites. They are AWESOME!!
The abundance of GroupX and Cycle classes make going to the gym daily a fun and exciting experience because you never get bored. When you get stuck in a rut, want to train for an event or just want some help getitng into a good routine, their trainers are great and there are plenty of payment plans to fit anyone's budget. Clyde pushed me to my limit every time we met and really helped me reach my fitness goals.
When you are pau with your workout the locker rooms feel luxurious compared to other gyms on the island. They also offer a beautiful lap pool, sauna, steam room and spacious hot tub to round out your routine.
This is by far and away my favotire gym on the island and I highly recommend it to anyone who can make it to Pearl City. -

Pearl City, HI
Upside:
Location, lots of parking, free towels, big and spacious, nice locker area
Downside:
Gets extremely crowded pau hana time, paper towel dispensers and spray bottles of cleaning solution in the weight areas often times are empty, with so many people using the facility they need to deodorize the place more often (have they heard of Febreeze?).
I have tried the Zumba classes at Pearl City, Kaneohe, and Mililani. Some instructors are really good .............like Mike, Yumi, Tiffiny, Junior, Shinobu, Hiromi, Ida. Don't take Zumba with Terry. She's not very good, her choreography is not great, it's actually boring. And she insists on doing things like the tango even when there is a slight groan from everyone in the class.
Don't know why there is no Zumba class in the evening at Pearl City or Mililani on Tuesday nites.
Overall, I like this facility. -

i absolutely love the parking here and i have no trouble finding one. all of the other 24hr locations have terrible parking and i finally found one with excellent parking. once you go in, you have towels and rags provided for you so you dont have to bring one. very updated with the latest exercise equipment but sometimes very confusing to use. i was using a equipment to work on your back but it was actually used to work your legs (something like that. haha) i love how they have a indoor pool, sauna, and steam room. locker rooms (mens) are kinda dirty and have that funky weird smell. showers are amazing! id rather take a shower there than take one at home. haha

4 stars for their UPGRADE! Have you been to the Pearl Kai 24 they had before they opened Pearl City? My friends and I nicknamed the place, "Hollywood." Reason being that all the guys that went there always enjoy staring, and not just at me but EVERYONE. I remember groups of guys would take the chairs from the Group X room and sit around and watch people pass by as they talked about what supplements they would buy. Real classy...Ugh what a complete dump. The place reeked of some sour stench and whenever those crazy lifters would drop the weights the whole building would shake. Treadmills and machines were rusted or broken. The 24 staff failed at keeping the place clean. Parking was very limited as well. I would literally drive to Mililani to work out, and I live in Aiea...
The reason for my long rant about Pearl Kai is to showcase how much of an upgrade Pearl City is in retrospect to what was offered to those who live in the area. I'll admit I was pretty perturbed that they told me I had to pay an additional $10/month in order to go to this gym. Hello? I have an All-Club pass, the name says it within itself All Club, why should I be paying more? Whatever, I'm over it.
So I can agree and attest to many of the peeves about this gym, but let's just say this is much more of a sleeker and cleaner place to work out.
Some of the pluses to this new amenity in my nearby neighborhood:
+ New biometrics technology allows you to check-in without having your 24-hour Club pass
+ Towel Service, glad they got rid of the restricted hours of towel service. At least I'm not aware that they have restrictions due to the time I work out.
+ The "Hollywood" lurkers don't seem to come around when I'm there
+ More treadmills available to members.
+ More Group X classes to my liking. They now have added a few later evening classes which I love.
+Way more parking than Pearl Kai.
+Clean locker rooms
Some peeves I have about the place:
-Not sure if it's just me but a lot of the levers to adjust the heights of the machines are jammed.
-Like I mentioned, I was pretty upset to find that I have to pay an additional $10 for the Club.
-The Group X Room needs another door, one for entering and one for exiting?
-The Group X Room floors are so slippery. I have had my close encounters of slipping and falling flat on my face while in a TKB or Zumba class. I have seen so many people slip on the floor. Abunai! When you're having a good workout, you don't want to be stopped because you need to watch your footing.
I hope they still maintain this gym once they start building other Super Sport Clubs. For now, Pearl City is the newest and hottest club in Hawaii, since it's so new and innovative. But let's hope they maintain this one, after all, members are paying a lot more in dues. Supposedly, Kapolei will be getting a Super Sport Club as well in the very near future. We'll see how well this one does once it's no longer in the spotlight. -

I like coming here because it is less than 5 mins away from my job. Its great that the monthly fee is only $50, the machines are top of the line, and the workers are friendly BUT the cleanliness of the locker rooms and water fountains needs to worked on more frequently.

Big workout area, peek times gets super packed. Its sometimes annoying to see the weights area crowded with people that just stand around socializing and don't even use the equipment. I just wish the fees weren't so high! I think I might just join CrossFit or maybe PowerHouse Gym.

I get my fitness on at 24 hour fitness. I enjoy taking classes. My favorites are step, 24 lift, 24 set, and yoga. I really want to try hot hula but the times they're offering aren't conducive to my schedule.
I personally think that it's a total rip off for people to be charged greater than $50 a month to be a member at this gym. I was very lucky to have purchased a membership that included 3 years for a set price and $29 per year thereafter. The people in this area was stripped of a gym and then slapped in the face by having to pay extra per month to work out here. Yeah, they tell you some BS that you can drive all the way to town or all the way to Mililani to work out. What if you live in Aiea or Pearl City and a gym in that area would be the most convenient? Again, I'm lucky I had a membership in place prior to this asinine choice. Because I would have canceled the membership and gone to Powerhouse Gym if they charged me $50 or more a month. -

So I'm a 24 Hour Fitness junkie. I've been to the 24 Hour fitness gyms in California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. In all of them, I could not really tell the difference between "sport" and "super sport". The only thing I see different is whether or not it's a two story building.
This 24 Hour Fitness is your run-of-the-mill 24 Hour Fitness gym considering the machines they offer as well as the facilities. In all the 24 Hour Fitness centers I've been to, including this one, there is always nowhere to stretch out. That stretching area upstairs is a joke. How can you expect to do your stretches without being too embarrassed to be watched and gawked at by women? That aerobics room downstairs are usually being used by some class.
Let's talk about downstairs. The atmosphere feels like you're working out at someone's basement. There's really no natural lighting that reach the corners of the room. There's no color coding of machines to easily recognize what general body part they're supposed to enhance. There doesn't seem to be any defined walkway areas. More often than not, some wide shouldered/bodied people are socializing and blocking mid-stairway. That really makes me mad and makes me wonder if that's a fire hazard.
Ab machines are few. I counted only three declining benches that can be used for sit ups. One bench is located downstairs infront of the mirrors. The other two are located upstairs and placed onto the side as if they were an afterthought.
The pool, and the whirlpool are basic amenities. As for the "towel service," you can't depend on it. The worst part of this place is the lack of common sense in the whole operation. 24 Hour Fitness has changed its policy of yearly memberships to monthly. Here's the kicker, they don't accept cash. I say, it's far more convenient for someone to change his/her mind to renew or cancel membership if cash was accepted. 24 Hour Fitness only accepts checking account, credit card, and debit cards.
There are many things wrong with this place and the modern policy of 24 Hour Fitness. Looks like they were cutting corners when they developed this place and simply glamorized it by lacing it with plasma TVs. Too many glitter and not enough substance. -

Pearl City, HI
Overcrowded with people who are there to take up space and socialize. I don't have the time or patience to waste money here. I like the idea that it is close to my house but seriously it is too crowded at e hours that I can go. I don't have the luxury of going all hours of the day or night like what was suggested by me. My son also stopped going and joined a gym with more classes and better equipment. Sorry but I used to be a fan until now. This may work for you just not me.

I think this 24 is still my favorite by far. There is always a lot of parking. But I warn you that it gets crowded a lot....so go either really early in the morning or really late at night. That's what I do. And if you wanna shoot around, I recommend bringing your own basketball. It's just much easier.
The best thing is that they give you towels :) Mililani doesn't, so when I go to the gym, I have to bring my own towel to shower and stuff.Listed in: late night munchies, daily basis

(The New Pearl City 24 hr fitness)
Ill keep it short but sweet. Kapiolani 24 seems bigger!! and I question why its a ULTRA Sports club when its almost exactly the same as Mililani? (new lockers? new machines? new pools? - NO racquetball?? NO track?? -- what you paying 10 dollar extra for? -- free towels?).
Everything is so brand new--- so what? things age after awhile and all I see are some broken machines waiting to be fixed as if waiting is a big issue there now.
I sure hope the pool is kept clean. Cause I can imagine the number of people that swim in it and do things in it. I hope it doesn't deteriorate like another place, where the flooring is all deteriorated and long due for the needed maintenance..lol.
I mean, what are you really paying the 10 extra for? And how come people that signed up through the Costco 24 hr fitness thingy, can't pay the extra 10 dollars? why do these members have to cancel their membership and resign? (we'll credit u back this and that...blah blah blah..so they say)
Hopefully there's some good security there now because I heard there's a lot of break-in that area especially on the second floor and the upper parking lot ( Believe me it happens, even in that busy place).
Can someone answer, or give some logical explanation as to why its a ULTRA sports club when I dont really see a real difference between Mililani and Kapiolani?? -- im just thinking its gotta be those safe lockers....lol
Probably just a matter of convenience as far as location ? (shrug)
(hope my account dont get canceled) -

This place is ok. There is always a bunch of people here and it is nearly impossible to get on a treadmill. I have never seen towels in the locker room for the showers. Actually opening weekend there were some, but went today and there weren't any.
When walking in you think is there really this many people in here. Yes there is, it is unbelievable. I really think that most of the island comes here to work out. Once you get on a treadmill since they are still relatively new they are nice to be on, and you can always tune to a sports channel on the TV or the News.
My wife went one time at 2am and she said there wasn't that many people then, so currently I think thats when you have to go so it is not swamped with people. -

(Although many other people have done reviews here and I'm probably repeating most comments, I'm gonna do this anyway)
I enrolled here about 3 months ago after I came back from graduating college, and had packed on about... well more than the freshman 15. The overall gym itself is big, not as big as the IMA at UW, but big for a local gym. They offer a wide variety of classes and have friendly personal trainers.
The machines I usually use are all on the top floor, which are the cardio machines. They have ellipticals, treadmills, stair master, cycling, and rowing machines. The bottom floor hosts all of the muscle building machines. A tip that my membership representative told me is that if you want a full body workout, go down the line from the corner mirrors (where the leg press is) all the way to the ab machine (by the men's changing room).
This branch is clean, lots of machines, and great to get a good workout at. The downside is that it's SUPER busy in the early morning and around pau hana time. If you want to go when it's not crowded I suggest going between 9a-3p and after 10pm. -

I definitely have to say that I like this gym way more than any other probably for it's sheer size. The machines are newer (TV on the ellipticals) and the facility in general is not as beaten up as others (like that of Downtown's). Of course it can get a bit crowded which is usually during the rush hour time of 3pm - 8pm when people are getting out of work and need to get their workout on. But any other time of the day there's a nice flow of people, where it's not too crowded or too empty. In the wee hours of the night it's the best! Haha.
I do wish they had more times for certain classes like Yoga or Pilates but of course there are only so many instructors. Overall, it's a good place for breaking a sweat with a little motivation. -

This update has been looooooooooong over due.
I was very tempted to give this place a 1 star rating. Why? Well since you've twisted my arm I shall share!
Has anyone ever experienced having one of the treadmills jerk underneath you whilst running? For some of us heavier folks this was quite common place and apparent a few months ago (maybe longer) and stayed that way for quite some time. I had mentioned it to the staff and left messages for the GM. All reassured me that it was getting looked into and that whatever it was it would be fixed. 1 month passed then 2. To be honest I had lost track as to how long they let this problem continue. I had pretty much given up warming up on the treadmills and got pretty good with the jump rope =)
Then one afternoon I decided to give the treadmills of certain death another try. I scanned the room and observed a few people jogging/running at a decent pace on some of them. So I give it a go. As soon as I got it up to about 6.5 the belt below me started jerking under the pressure yet again. OK fine so I'll try another one. What would be the chances that they haven't addressed this issue and that all of them still react this way? Well I hopped on every available treadmill and ALL of them still had this problem.
There was this gentleman that was observing me play musical treadmill and asked me if I was experiencing "difficulties" with the machines. Apparently he was and has been enduring the same problems for quite some time as well. So we sat around and waited for one of the "managers" to grace us with her presence. She was in the process of giving us another cookie cutter speech until the older gentleman interrupted her stating that he was some sort of lawyer and that he was about to file complaints/charges against them for negligence and whatnot.
*edit* Oh I remember! He said that he would willfully use the faulty equipment and would probably get injured thus resulting in a negligence lawsuit =D
Within a week all of the belts of the treadmills were replaced and the problem was no more. All it took was what, a few months and a lawyer threatening to sue them for having unsafe equipment for them to remedy the issue.
The location is still a good with with many amenities and (mostly) helpful staff. My only other qualm about this location is that it gets insanely crowded at about 4-5pm until about almost 11pm on weeknights. So I then started to venture out and see how the other ones on this side fared.
in short, Kapiolani 24hr is my new home gym. (hmm I sense another review a brewin)

I love this place! First of all it just recently opened (Nov 2009) so the facility is still nice and sparkly! I loved the yoga classes, new equipment, pool, shower area (complete with a machine that wrings your clothes dry for you), Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room... oh and did i forget to mention the FREE use of towels and they even have a Kids Club!!!! How cool is that!
Here's the link for information to their facility: http://www.24hourfitne...

Been a member since they opened this location. It's very clean, well kept, and there's lots of parking. It does get crowded from around 4-8 and the group X classes can get packed but IMO that's to be expected from any gym. The woman's locker room is nice and clean and I've actually seen the staff sanitizing the showers and benches. The swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room are very nice luxurious touches as well as the towel service which was temporarily limited to certain times but due to customer complaints (to corporate office) was reinstated as a full time service offered.
