    I love Zumba class!!!!
    I love POOL!!!
I love their juice and snack bar - the so-called "NrGize Lifestyle Cafe" totally rocks.

They've got great discount for certain company's employee - mine included. so so cheap.
AND you just have to pay minimum 2 months, after that, you pay by each month.
This is the most ideal gym for me anyway.

    "Three sixty-five days a year, twenty-four a day, seven days a week"

A decent alternative to my usual SOHO location.

Will admit during peak hours I am usually unable to get on some machines.  (with the exception of cardio).  That kinda sucks, and I have never experienced that in SOHO.

The pool etc. are an extremely nice amenity.  There is even a machine in the locker room that spin dries your b.suit in seconds.

I will agree with Jacob C.  that the layout leaves MUCH to be desired as far as arriving.  Walking through the ENTIRE gym is a bit much, but I can't imagine how they would've done it any differently.  The locker room, albeit it big always feels like everyone took lockers directly next to mine.  How does this happen?  Have also seen some guys wait for showers....interestingly enough SOHO has less showers and I've never waited.  Oh and guys, pick up your towels and put them in the bin, is that really so difficult?  Sheesh.

Food bar that includes wraps and smoothies is super convenient.  If you're not into that, take the exit located inside the main building and visit the many food places located below...which includes one that is gluten free.

I consider this gym to be one of the best in the city, next to Equinox.  No, it's not as pretty, but it has nearly the same amenities for more than half the cost, with the seduction of being open 24 hours, when I tend to work late hours nearby.

The equipment is new and plentiful, and the area feels spacious.  Even though it gets crowded during peak hours, I rarely feel squeezed in here.  It's nice to have towel service, and the locker rooms have various toiletries such as razors, shaving cream, hairspray, shower gel, conditioner and antipersperant, and there are about 40 courtesy lockers with self-setting locks, in case you forgot yours.  In addition to the machines, weights, TRX area, and various workout equipment, there is a (small) pool with a steam room, sauna and whirlpool tub in the pool area.  There is also a Kids' club, where they watch your kids while you work out, which must be awesome for busy parents.

One of the main reasons I love my gym is for my excellent trainer, Pete Mo.  He is tough, but very caring and motivated and keeps me on track and positive about my goals; sticking with me even when I'd lost sight of them for a while.  He really seems to care about what he does and is extremely dedicated.  If I didn't have him, I'd probably choose Todd (sp?) or Jason, who also seem very knowledgeable.  I'm very picky about trainers and insist on having someone who really knows what they are doing and ensures that you use correct form, to prevent injury.

I love the Spin classes here and all the instructors are good.  Aqua Boot Camp is fun and is taught by Damien, from the show Biggest Loser (very sweet guy).

I also really appreciate how damn friendly the front desk staff are.

    Bummers about this gym are:

    1)  the smallness of the pool which is cut off on one end by the load-bearing column and the whirlpool placement, so that there are really only two serviceable lanes for serious laps.  (However, there is a very nice lifeguard who keeps everyone happy and conflict-free)

    2)  Steam Room and Sauna are not hot enough (but I'm used to Russian Banya)

    3) The gym is located in the basement of the building, several flights down.  Some might find the stairs daunting; I don't.  However, because of the location, I find the ceiling to be too low.  The problem here is that the overhead lighting is too close and is very harsh on the eyes when you are facing into them while in various equipment positions.

    4)  I really wish they had more classes!  (hint, hint)

I love my gym. After checking out the disappointment of a gym at the 24 Hour in madison square garden, I came here. This gym is so much nicer. The cardio section has everything I need, and for the most part all of the machines work. Some of the TV's (especially on the Freemotion incline treadmills) don't work very well, but the sound does, and I usually just flip to whatever channels they have on one of the big screens. They have a wide variety of machine weights and a wide open area for free weights. I've only done one group x class, the TurboKick, and it was pretty intense, but also a lot of fun.

When I first started going here, they had public lockers with electronic locks which always seemed to be locked even if no one was using them. Just recently, they got rid of those and switched to manual dial locks, and since the change, it's been much easier to find an available locker.

    No complaints yet.

Not sure why expected the " turbo" kickboxing class to be good.  I've taken endless classes in NYC, so I thought, why not?

Let me count the ways it made me walk out.
    a) Room was pitch black, no A/C with a few clip lights on the floor. Couldn't see instructor.
    b) 50 ( 50+) people in the room who do not know how to kickbox or the  "choreography". WAY too many people.
    c) non-working microphone, no way to understand the instructor, although, it did work for the first 5 minutes before breaking and making this horrible piercing shattering noise for about a minute.
    d) " this is a really heavy choreography class" That's fine, but maybe bill it as a dance kickboxing class.  People wildly kicking without  any knowledge of form in an overcrowded room will lead to injury. Sort of like the girl who kicked me in the back.
    e) Most of the "choreography" was prancing around and throwing different body parts around. Back to my old, further away classes I go.

Walked out, got  a better workout on the stairmaster by myself for goodness sakes.

I've been to a lot of gyms in NYC, but I have to admit, I was shocked when I entered this one.  This is a beautiful gym that seems bigger than it really is.  Maybe it was the layout, or the abundance of beautiful women jogging on the treadmills distracting me.  Whatever the case, I was impressed and really liked the look and feel of this gym.

Now for the disappointment factor.  This is in regards to their Soho location, but I see 24 Hour Fitness as one company.  For such a big international company, they screwed me royally in terms of membership.  After weeks of negotiating back and forth, I finally got them to agree to a new monthly rate for me.  All it took was me threatening to email the CEO, VP, and file with the BBB.  That usually gets people's attention.  And I wasn't bluffing, I would have annoyed the head honchos to the point where they yell at someone for making me pester them.  I am definitely a pest when I want to be!

With that said, this location is ok.  Like I said, plenty of eye candy for the hormonal males, such as myself.  The weight room itself is not too great.  I'm not a fan of their non-adjustable benches.  They also only have 1 pair of each dumbbell weight.  So if you want to use a certain weight, be prepared to have to wait for it.  Wait, is all this weight talk confusing you about the weights in this wait room?  I mean weight room.

All in all, looks can be deceiving.  The treadmill filled beautiful people is a distraction from this gym's size.  It's really smaller than it looks.  (That's what she said!)

Not the must luxurious gym, but they hit the criteria great:

    - Nice staff
    - Clean
    - Lots of towels
    - Ample Classes
    - Trainers who teach the classes are awesome
    - People don't bother you.

It's not cheap, but hey nothing here is. Worth it.

This isn't enough to knock them down to three stars, but I need to vent.  This gym seems to have twenty personal trainers.  They tend to take the place over.  Good luck finding a spot in the stretching room, because they monopolize it.

Also, it's bad gym etiquette to talk to someone while they are in the middle of a set.  It's like talking to a golfer in his backswing.  You just don't do it.  But, this happens all the time.  I don't need a trainer asking me "are you almost done there?" when I'm pressing four-hundred pounds above my chest.  (Note: This may have been forty pounds.  I'm not good with numbers.)

All the Ultra clubs are high end and VERY nice.  Towel service?  Check.  Electronic Lockers?  Check (regular lockers available as well).  Pool?  Not sure, didn't look for one.

The only major gripe I have is that it's a couple of flights downstairs.  It feels like you are in a basement or something.  If you are a little clostro, don't go.  If you are ok with it, go.

    iPod docs?  check.
    Would I go back?  Yes.
    Bathrooms?  Clean.  3/5

Edit:  For those out of towners that want to get a work out in while you are on vacation in the city, the 24 Hour Fitness Clubs are all Ultra level clubs which means if you aren't an Ultra level person, it's $15 per day or $50 per week.

This gym has had several budget cuts over the last few months (or just cutbacks on the luxury).  1.  The electric locks are gone so bring your own.  2.  No shampoo and conditioner in the showers- just a foam that is universal- the same foam to wash your hands is supposed to cover your body and hair.  It takes about 30 pumps for a woman with medium length hair to cover everything.  (Mostly because the foam disappears by them time you get to your foot.)3.  No longer paper towels in an effort to be green- hand dryers don't work so people are just wasting physical towels.

The actual gym is nice- the classes make this gym. I don't wait for cardio machines with the rush hour crew because the instructors are top notch.  They are the only reason I'm still attending - for now.

Although this gym is small (that's NY for ya), it's a nice gym.  Sometimes the gym is hot, which sucks and ruins my workout, but other than that, I like this gym the most out of all the gyms I've been to.  During my time here, I never encountered a machine that was out of service.

I liked the towel service, I used 4 each time I went lol.
The women's restroom provide free things (ie. deodorant spray, razors, hair dryer, etc.) and towels for shower use.

I only used the locker once, but you have access to that and they don't require locks.

I went to the Derek Jeter 24 while on vacation with my fiance. We plugged in our membership number at the front desk & were told that although we have an all-access gym membership, the Derek Jeter gym requires an upgrade, otherwise we were to pay $15 for a day pass.

I'm from Oakland, CA & have been to the Pro Sport 24-Hr Fitness Facilities (San Ramon, Vegas, etc), which also requires an upgrade... clearly 5-star gyms (nice equipment, great turbo classes, spacious, clean, & convenient amenities like towels, hairdryers, & toiletries in the locker room).

HOWEVER, this 24-Hr fitness was not in the same arena at all. Standard equipment, low ceilings, crowded spacing, & standard locker-room facilities. The condition of this gym is equal to the all-accessable gyms in the bay area. We were told we no 24-hr fitness gyms in the area were all-accessable, so we didn't have a choice, but to pay the day pass. Lastly, the day pass was not good for a 24 hour period.

I give this gym a uni-star just for the convenient location near Hell's Kitchen & Time's Square, where we stayed on vacation... Thank God for Central Park... we opted for morning runs, a MUCH better alternative...

Today was my official first day working out w/ my trainer Nicole C. First of all let me say that everyone here has been super friendly. Nicole (another girl) who is the membership consultant showed me around and was knowledgeable about the gym equipment and was funny and down to earth. I also met w/ Maurice another trainer and Matt the gym manager. Again everyone is extremely welcoming and funny.

The gym is clean; the pool is a good size to get your workout done. They have toilet trees (shaver, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, mouthwash, tampons, towels galore and a machine that sucks all the water out of our bathing suits. The Derek Jeter location has a juice bar and it's not expensive. A good strength training area, a lounge area, free Wi-Fi and even a computer that u can use for up to 20 minutes. If you have kids they have a club for them. This place is just awesome, if you encounter any bad things then it must be the customers because so far so good. I live in the bx and work in queens, so out of all the gyms I decided to pick what stood out more than all the others. 24 hour fitness Derek Jeter gets my vote 100%. I'll check out the 5th avenue soon.

I dont know where some of the negative reviews are coming from. Let me tell you some more about my experience with this gym. I should start by telling you I have been a member of just about every gym there is. I also work out fairly late at night considering my schedule so i am there from 11pm-1am during the week and very early in the A.M on the weekends, due to parking problems.

I live in Queens near the 59th street bridge, so it is not a bad treck in for me by car. Gyms in Queens all suck. I need to obviously avoid rush hour during the week and afternoons on the weekends otherwise i will never find a parking spot.

Thats where my complaints stop on the experience. For the Manhattan crowd this shouldnt be an issue since they wont be driving there.

The staff is all very friendly. They greet me when I walk in and when I leave. They dont make any additional convo with me and thats exactly how I like it. I dont come there to deal with a salesman. anytime I had an issue and needed them they were attentive.

the place is spotless. Listen if your going to go at 6pm-8pm its going to be messy. theres a ton of people and its impossible to pick up after them immediately in a crowded gym. Having a woman push around a maintenance cart is not going to work. Think of how they work it in your office. The maintenance people come after rush hour to clean so they are not in the way. Come at 6pm and you are asking for a mess. When I am there late at night, there is a woman wiping down every single machine and spraying it, a guy vaccuming, and a man in the locker room cleaning the showers and the floor. There are always towels.

The equipment itself is brand new and there is plenty of it. When I see a slight tear on one of the bicep machines where you lay your arm due to use, it winds up being replaced within 2 days. A big plus for me, because im used to seeing gyms just leave it alone until enough people complained. Hooks on the big cable machines that always mysteriously dissapear at every gym, get replaced quickly as well. Its the little things that you appreciate. Someone mentioned there was no pool??? The pool is huge how could you miss it its right by the locker room?

For $70 a month its a great deal in Manhattan. you can go to Equinox for $200, or Chelsea Piers for $160 a month plus $20 a day parking in their garage.  Those gyms would probably be nicer, but is it worth it?
This gym has a nice crowd, no clowns. You cant beat the deal

Great central location in Midtown Manhattan. I love the atmosphere here. Its clean, they're friendly, and the equipment and classes here are great. Plus its very affordable. Less expensive than NYSC or Equinox.

I got such great results working out here as a member last year that I became a trainer here recently. I didn't give it five stars because it might not be for the ubber rich crowd. It's more for people who actually like to workout and see fitness results instead of standing around socializing the whole time here.

There's a steam room, sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi, lots of free weights, lots of machines, lots of cardio equipment, lots of classes, a kids room to babysit kids while the parents workout, a juice bar that makes fabulous shakes, good health and fitness supplement retail store, and awesome friendly staff members.

Gyms like this are the reason why celebrities and rich people stay fit...$75 for membership is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous in my opinion. I moved here from California and was super disappointed with Ultra Sport. I was a member at Super Sport in Cali, which was a lot bigger (yes I understand real estate is crazy here), had more equipment, a daycare, an indoor pool, huge shower stalls. Although I didn't really use most of that crap at Super Sport, I liked to know that I had the option to. I give this place only 3 stars; even though it is pretty clean and usually empty, but on those days that more than 15 people are running on treadmills it smells and feels like a sweat shop (if we are paying $75 a month, you think they could get some circulation going in there)...I like being in a sauna but not a sauna made by human odor and sweat.

Positive: TV's on machines, not super busy, clean, locker rooms are awesome

Negative: no pool, weight room is small, super stuffy when too many people are there.

I generally go to the 24 Hour Fitness in SoHo, but I had to run some errands in the area so I decided to work out at this location for the day so I didn't have to go back to SoHo. I guess what I really didn't like about this location (and hence the 2 star rating) was the layout. When you come in you head downstairs into the gym and you have to walk through pretty much the entire gym...past all the workout machines, all the weights, and even the window of people doing yoga or whatever just to get to the locker room. On top of that this location seems to be much busier than the one at SoHo and as a result I ended up having to wait for machines because there were other people on them...on more than one occasion, and this was in the middle of the day...so it's not as if it was the peak hours for the gym. I think I'll just stick to going to the one in Soho.

I would agree with other posters that this gym can sometimes get crowded, machines break, etc., I would point out that its signficiantly cheaper than Equinox, Sports Club LA, etc.  Plus, it obviously has longer hours, and the classes are free.  Good value for NYC if you ask me.

You're really not going to get a much better deal at this price.  The machines are well maintained, clean (you see the maintenance crew wiping down machines all the time), towel service that works, finger print scanned entry (dont have to carry your card), hotel style lockers (4 digit code), clean showers, complimentary soap, shampoo, gel, shaving cream, razors, kleenex, qtips... the list goes on and on.  There's a TV everywhere you look, never over crowded (i'm a cardio guy) and plenty of classes to choose from.  My only complaint is the 25% price hike in April but as long as the service stays the same I'll keep coming back.

Please note:  I can't same the same about the Flatiron or SoHo clubs...

The towels are thin like rags.  I have complained several times about the bikes because that's why I go there and the manager has never been able to get them repaired.  This gym needs attention and it feels like no one gives a damn.

So i have been a member of this gym for about a week and let me tell you.. It's pretty groovy! While the overall size of the gym isn't huge, they make great use of the space. All cardio machines, weight training machines and free weights are updated.. the staff are friendly and helpful.. The male locker room, showers and bathrooms are pristine.. all toiletries are supplied, in case you don't wanna lug with your stuff or simply forget them.. They have a sorta kid zone for parents that want to work out and have kids.. and they always seem to have a class going on, for those of you who like that kinda thing.. I'm extremely happy with my choice to leave my previous gym for this one. Definitely a must check out!

I basically lived in this gym from mid-2009 to mid-2010 when I had to let my membership expire due to this damn economy.  The place is in the basement of the Citicorp building and is huge.  Plenty of cardio equipment and free weights.

The gym is very popular and I watched the crowds increase steadily from late 2009 until when I left.  I got addicted to spinning thanks to two great instructors, Pete Mo & Cicely.  Be sure to reserve a spot in advance however, the 6PM classes are filled to capacity all the time.

I think the month-to-month membership fee increased from $65 to $70 a month on 1/1/11 for single club access.  The staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome after a long day at the office.

I sure do miss this place, gotta fish for some guest passes or trial memberships... :)

For now I give it four stars.  I have been a member of almost every gym in this city and the one thing I can say about this place is that it is month to month so really what is the risk.  If you do not like it, cancel...there is no lock up.  Besides that I like the gym because the location is very corporate so I find it does not get too crowded due to the fact that anyone normal rushes out of midtown as soon as they can clock out.  It is also nice because it is new and therefore relatively clean.  The locker room is great, has supplies or razors and other Duane Reade type items in case you are in need.  Oh and best thing ever is that they have digital locks so no need for a lock you can never remember the combination for or even remember to bring.   I

I did not find any of the sales people pushy.

Classes are few but good and uncrowded.

Also I am not the best in shape and I do not feel overwhelmed or  self conscious.

Cons:  the weight area is a bit small and compact so if you are a big lifter, you may see this as a problem
Also I would not like where the personal training section is if I had a personal trainer there....it is right there where everyone enters to get to the locker rooms and equipment.  Very disruptive if you ask me.

So in conclusion, the cost is 70 bucks (for NYC that is cheap) and its MONTH TO MONTH...no commitment, just what New Yorkers like

Ok Jeter, I supported you when you were in a slump, I supported the Gillette Razor commercials, but a gym?

So i toured the gym recently and It seems like the right place to work out. But, it has alot more fluff then substance. The worker there are mostly small and thin kids who probably don't spend much time exercising.

The facility is solid, with elliptical's, free weights and rowing machines. It is a little pricier then the local gyms, but cheaper then the swanky equinox. If you have the money for a membership, try it out. I for one will stick to making payments on the bow flex.

I've been a member of 24 hr fitness in cali before they started doing the tiers of club membership.    I have the old skool deal when 24 was just getting big on the west coast.   When i moved to NY, i kept my membership because it was pretty inexpensive.   Glad i did, because I can use this gym.   I am a current member of Equinox, and I was a member at NYSC a couple of years ago..   I just tried this gym recently.   I love how there's so much availability on the machines and weights compared to the other two gyms.  The cycle room has the same bikes as equinox.   I guess if i were to complain, it's that the classes are too crowded. but the classes are good.    I would goto this gym over the other gyms if I just wanted to do free weights and cardio and take 30/60/90 or Keoni's class.    A very well rounded gym :)

Hey kids, the second 24 Hour Fitness Club is now open in NYC. I'm a member at the one down in Madison Square Park normally but this club is too shiny new not to try out. The place is HUGE (by NYC standards). They offer more classes than the other location and yay it's the same instructors! Here's the breakdown thus far:

    Pros:
    1) I don't see how you would ever need to wait for a machine, there's just rows and rows of them and all smelling like new plastic and sweat free
    2) speaking of sweat, there's nice babywipes everywhere to clean the machines before use
    3) the spin room is actually decent here complete with dimmers
    4) there's a pool!
    5) TVs all over the place, I think I counted 5 just in the locker room alone
    6) now I don't have to be tempted by Shake Shack after a grueling workout

    Cons:
    1) the sauna and steam room are in the pool room, making them communal and coed. I'm all about being progressive here but there's no way I'm sitting in the steam room with sweaty men. oh the humanity!
    2) while it's great that they have a pool, it's shaped funny with only 2 real lanes. and no lifeguard.

Those are really the only complaints I have. Maybe with the third Soho location, they'll finally get it right. coed steam room = NO

I stopped going to the flat iron 24 hour fitness because the locker room was just horrendous. steam room was always broken, lockers always ran out of battery or somehow in an EMPTY gym all the lockers are locked... but this is also the case at this gym

i wonder if they actually check the lockers. Its just a huge pet peeve of mine!

why are the shower dispensers always falling apart or on the ground? or empty!! how are we expected to shower?

this gym is much better than the flat iron one as it as more benches and  a decline and a bigger area for free weights but what it lacks is hammer strength machines which the flat iron has.

Great facility! - Clean. Cleaning towelettes abound to wipe machines after use.  Towels provided.  Well-maintained machines (so far, they're fairly new)

LOUSY Service - Am an out-of-towner and a non-ULTRA SPORT member.  Had to pay $30.  No, $30 is not my qualm.  My complaint is they couldnt give me a receipt.  A RECEIPT!  They said they don't know how to reprint receipt/transaction.  Ok, that's fine.  Then give me a handwritten receipt. They said they couldnt do that. WTF?!  WHY?!  I said "Give me any proof that I paid $30"  They said there's nothing they could do.  They said there's no manager.  There's not even anybody who is in charge. Yes, that's what they said.  This is the US of A.  And in Manhattan.  And I couldnt get a lousy proof that I paid $30.  For all you know, it didnt go to 24-hour fitnesses accounting.
After this experience, I'll probably try other gyms.  But this is just my experience.  Check it out yourselves.

I adore this gym.  Lots of cardio equipment (I have never had to wait in over 2 years), clean, well maintained, good towel service, awesome staff.  It's true that the lockers fill up (and some are broken), but if the place wasn't busy, it couldn't stay in business.

I only take the Turbo Kick classes on a regular basis (Natalie is the sh*t, if her abs don't motivate you nothing will), but the others I've tried have been good, too.  I love that you check in with a fingerprint and don't have to keep up with a card, and that you can buy drinks and stuff with a PIN if you set it up.  I try not to lift during peak hours, because the weights do get crowded; easily avoided by lifting in the morning.

Don't know what people are talking about...this location has a pool, sauna, and steam room.  You have the option of a nationwide all club membership; I'm from TX and can work out when I visit home at no extra cost.  Membership prices are very reasonable, (remember to ask if you get a discount through your company!).

If you want to pretend you're going to the spa, or are looking for a place to socialize and show off your new workout gear, go pay more somewhere else.  If you want a nice, clean, affordable place to work out with great staff and classes, it doesn't get much better than this in Manhattan.

Coming from a land of nickels and dimes (24 hr Fitness in Calif.) - where you pay for towels and pay for lockers if you don't have your own lock - this state of the art location through me for a loop.

Free towels for workouts and showers.
Free lockers with wicked cool digital locks you program yourself.

[UPDATE: Don't I know yet if it's too good to be true...apparently this is a super premium location that costs a lot more than the "basic" gyms to which I'm accustomed.]

A TON of machines. I mean...the room was so big I thought I'd never get to the locker room.

Only minus a star due to the weird location / area for the balance balls + the fact that the showers are an exhibitionist"s dream. Translucent shower stalls...evoking the Seinfeld when George visited his mother in the hospital...except more graphic.

Still, while in NY I'll be working out more often simply due to the swankity swankness of this gym!

It was my first time at the 53rd St 24 Hour Fitness location. I was a little hesitant to come here, but it was the closest place to my appointment that I had afterwards. I felt like I was entering the labyrinth!! The workout area was in the basement, and the women's and men's locker rooms were all the way in the back towards the weight machines. The whole set up was just a little too claustrophobic feeling for me. I did end up burning 250 calories on the treadmill and half an hour on weights.
Upon showering, I realized how dirty this place is. The shower stalls were a filthy mess. The bathroom attendant was just sitting on the locker room benches laughing at the television. She didn't even move from that spot from when I checked in! The place was so dirty that I was scared to take my socks off. I think I even put them back on before walking back to my locker.
I noticed a juice bar upstairs, and before leaving, I needed a protein shake. I chose what I wanted with the staff member, and he informed me all they had was SOY protein, which I hate. Kind of made me pissed off because he should of warned me before I made a decision.
The staff at this location are not as cool as the one in SoHo. The machines are also really worn out at this location. It needs a major update. I didn't even have a chance to look at the pool, but I'm also scared to!!

About 6 months ago, give or take, I got my girlfriend and I memberships to 24 Hr.  Both memberships are now canceled.  The gym is always crowded, it smells awful, the locker rooms are disgusting, and so is the equipment, although it looks to be nice and clean.

This gym was way too cheap, and everybody and their mother joined. 24 Hr oversold this gym, they cant maintain around the clock, and they obviously aren't  going to stop selling.

Other gyms maybe a little pricier and may include a contract, but you get what you pay for nowadays.

This is the best 24 Hour in NY. The showers are always hot, and the lotion does not smell disgusting. Granted Soho looks snazzier, but I think this gym has better staff. I wish they had conditioner in the locker room though.

My first visit was on a Monday at 6:30p and it was busy! It was bustling until approximately 10p which is  a  huge difference from the 5th Ave location.

There is  a co-ed wet area including a swimming pool and steam room. Fresh towels are ample. The women's locker has electronic lockers and hygiene products such as razors, shaving gel and hair dryers.

The cardio equipment is newer and there is a small spin room and fitness studio.

Although I prefer the 5th Ave location because it it a little less crowded, this location gets four stars for the swimming pool, the aroma of spearmint in the steam room and the eye candy (men of course!).

People are NOT kidding when they say this location is crowded.   I came during off hours and almost joined but figured I better just check it out at the time I would normally go.  Thank God I did.   I would never go to the gym knowing I had to deal with that nonsense.   I will say this gym is fantastic if you have flexible hours b/c its very clean, good selection of machines, and the price can't be beat--no hard sell at all when I went for a trial visit.   BUT if you have to come 6-7 like most people--I dont recommend.   Fighting for locker space, people standing around waiting for machines (which have time limits, btw.  a pet peeve of mine).  Nothing relaxing or enjoyable about it.   Just left agitated. . . and happily joined a very uncrowded Crunch the next day.

I think this gym has everything you need. I use the free weights, pool, steam room, sauna & wifi the most, although I always see a lot of open cardio machines when I walk in. The trainers are really friendly and helpful. They give me pointers on my kettlebell exercises and weightlifting and never make an aggressive sales pitch. Yes, anyone coming from out of town will think this place is kind of a piece of shite for the price compared to what they're used to, but that's NYC. You could say the same about apartments, hotel rooms, salons...  Anywhere else this gym would cost $15-35/mo. but compared to other gyms in the city it is really nice and has all the amenities you could want for the serious fitness enthusiast. No, it doesn't have a boxing ring like Chelsea piers, no it doesnt have stripper aerobics like equinox, but do you really need that? And is it worth twice the price monthly plus an extreme deposit? Being in the same price range as NYHRC, crunch & NYSC I think this is definitely the best chain in the city. The best thing about this gym for me is that it's open 24 hours. I work some crazy hours and sometimes the best time for me to get to the gym is at 4am Sunday. I admit I prefer the soho location, it just seems more open and spa-like, but this gym is close to work and it's fantastic. Plus it's only $2-3 more/ mo. for all access than just this gym.

If you like high pressure, greasy sales tactics, then this is the place for you.  I went to take a tour of the gym last spring and foolishly gave the sales rep my phone number. Almost a year later I am still getting phone calls from this creep on a regular basis. I recognize the number now and dont even bother to pick it up.

I ended up joing the 24 hour in SOHO. Brand new, cool staff and great location. Take your business elsewhere.

My husband and I decided to leave Equinox and join this gym after taking the tour.   We've pretty much been members since it opened and our experience has been fantastic.

The gym is new and the equipment is pretty state of the art. My favorite are the spin bikes that have TVs attached and permits you to plug in your Ipod to listen to music and/or watch any videos you may have stored on your Ipod.  There is plenty of equipment and being that the gym is so new, there is never a wait.  Even as membership increases, there is so much cardio equipment that I can't imagine you would ever have to wait for a piece of equipment.

Great weight area.  I don't like that the benches don't move and there is no fly machine but definitely enough equipment to work every muscle you have and then some.  The gym also has some interesting machines made by HOIST (I think) that move with you as you lift.  I believe it's supposed to prevent muscle injuries and increase your ability to have a natural range of motion (don't quote me on that).

Good classes.  Of course they aren't as extensive and current as Equinox but I kind of like that.  All things new aren't  necessarily better.  The gym has a decent selection and if you have the time check out one of Ali, Pete or Felicia's classes.  All do an excellent job.

The locker rooms are large and clean.  There are plenty of lockers near the Spin Room, Group X Room and in the locker rooms.  Best thing about it is that you don't have to bring your own lock.  Each locker is equipped with a digital lock that you program at the time of use.

Let's see...what else...juice bar with some food, pool (WITH A LIFEGUARD), steam room and sauna, pro shop, towel service, etc.

The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, hard working and always ready to address any issues you may have.  Enough said.

Oh, and you can't beat the price compared to Equinox.  I think the only areas Equinox comes out on top is number of classes and abundance of locations, but that's not enough to make me go back to pay $170 a month when I now pay less than $100.

Check it out.  You won't be disappointed.
