Make no mistake--this like a step above a prison gym. Stuff's falling apart, kind of grimy, kind of smelly. I've seen dudes on the elliptical machines barely breaking a sweat so they can stare at the asses of the chicks on the treadmill in front of them.  The parking lot at night is a little frightening.

The upside to all of this? Hardly anyone goes here. If you want to complain about not having TVs on the treadmills, there's the Super Sport down the street. If you want to work out and get any machine you want with no waiting, this is your place.

(Just wash your hands.)

This 24Hour Fitness is being run into the ground by its mother company, and for good reason; the mother company built a 24Hour Fitness SuperSport next door and is hoping folks who REALLY REALLY like the San Antonio shopping center are going to upgrade to Super Sport.

Where to begin: rubber mats are breaking apart, TVs are old, equipment is often rundown, the pool is tiny, the exercise room (with the hardwood and the mirrors) is in a separate building that is locked after hours so you cannot go in there to stretch, locker rooms are almost NEVER clean, sales staff is typical 24 Hour Fitness...

This gym was semi-decent for years. However, with the lease up in about a year and a half, I suspect this 24 Hour Fitness will be no more. Wonder what's going to move in here?

Ewwwwwwww, this place is gross and in serious need of a face lift.

I wandered in for a quick workout and my first problem was finding the locker room. There aren't any signs to tell you that, in order to get to the it, you must walk to the back of the gym, make a U-turn, go through a door and down a long dark hallway, hang a right and you're there.

The location of the free weight room is equally as obscure. It's completely cut off from the rest of the gym and is down another long dark hallway from the locker rooms.

All the equipment is old and in need of some serious upgrades.

When your workout is over, I wish you luck, because you're about to brave the locker room and showers. (I would almost say that your real workout is about to begin) The locker room and showers feel slimy and really gross. I'm usually not very squeamish, but they left me feeling more dirty then when I entered.

As a side note, it's kinda gross to walk by an old naked guy using the hand dryer to dry his junk. Ewww!

24 Hour Fitness should gut the whole place and remodel it so it's easier to find things and update the equipment.

Based on the other reviews for this gym, Instead of giving them stars, this gym belongs in a black hole where it should close down for all eternity!!!!

Now that I work in the Los Altos area, I wanted to checkout the local 24 hour fitness. I saw that the Mountain View 24 fitness had spin class at 6am and decided to give it a try.

I have been going to the Richmond 24 hour fitness spin classes for the past 1.5 years and which I might add, is an awesome gym.  I come to the class and find these ancient looking spin bikes that have rust all over the wheels. God it was gross! The spin class was in a Group x room so I had to drag the damn bike across the floor to get closer to the spin instructor. As the spin instructor saw me dragging the bike across the floor, she asked me if I ever took spin class before. Umm..no Good morning, or can I help you with that bike? etc..I told her yes, I've taken spin before.

As the spin instructor watched me set-up my bike and warm up, she kept picking on me saying things like, "don't stretch on the bikes, keep both hands on the bike handles,  etc... This lady was uber mean, boring, no personality, absolutely no energy and bad choice in music.

i left the class very unsatisfied with my workout. Now comes the ladies locker room. Found 3 showers with no shower heads. Just a spout of water coming out.  I will never come back here again

I am surprised by all the bad reviews. I'd give this gym 4 stars for value-for-the-money (open 24 hours and has lots of cardio and weight machines). My rating does not consider the locker room or the pool because I have never used either of them.

I usually go 2-3 times a week and use the stationary bikes and a few of the weight machines in the main room. They supply paper towels and cleaner so you can clean your machine before using it. Given the low-price, there are no clearners that consistently clean the machines.

+/- signs represent intensity of positive/negative sentiment

++ depending on time, less busy than most 24 hr fitness locations, especially compared to the "super-sport" next to this location. things die down after about 11pm or so, w/ only 4-5 people using the facilities.
++ 3+ freeweight racks, which are sometimes in short supply in mega-gyms. also: no stupid policies prohibiting compound exercises (deadlifts, military press, etc.)
++ decent mix of people; mostly professionals & student types doing their own thing rather than weight-dropping, advice-giving roidheads.
+ laid-back staff.

--- as pointed out by multiple folks before me, ventilation is lacking & the shower/locker room areas can induce retching.
-- more of a puddle than a pool--barely enough room to do laps.
- ancient tvs in the cardio room--feels like you're watching 4 or 5 large blobs of color swirling around on the screens.

summary: previous reviews have been brutal, & although some complaints are legitimate, a few don't make sense. the place certainly isn't "filthy"--it may sometimes smell like it, but it's a gym. equipment isn't in pristine condition, but it certainly isn't deteriorating/rusting. lastly, if you need a trainer to point out that you need to stretch before compound exercises, that's not 24 hr fitness' problem.

on the whole, an alright option for late-evening/night workouts, especially for those who want to do free-weights & want to run their routines w/o much interference from a busy crowd. look for a larger location if you're dead-set on using a trainer or have an ubersensitive nose.

We've continue  to go here because for the low yearly price that we've been grandfathered into, but this place has gotten seriously disgusting.  The group x room always appears dingy - floor is covered in crap (dust/hairballs) and even puddles of gawd-knows-what.  The gym itself has lots of machines that are posted with Out of Order signs.  No - I would not upgrade to membership in the super-sport across the street. It's a total racket to let this place go to squalor in order to entice people to use a semi-usable gym for more money than they signed up for.  Time to move on.

I'm going to be harsh...

This 24 hr is like the bottom rung on the ladder of gym quality: the locker room smells like death, it's usually pretty hot and there's next to no room to stretch before working out.  I don't understand why people think it's a good idea to walk around barefoot or even lie down on the mats to do abs, for that matter--yuck!

Having said that, the gym is usable, and it works... this location has most of the equipment--actually, just barely--that you'll need for a good workout including cardio, free weights, and machines.  Usually just one or two of each machine and slight variations on the mechanics.

The free-weights room is hidden in the back behind the pool and doesn't get crowded, which is nice, but there's also no water fountain.  To get a sip of h20 you have to exit, walk down the corridor of death on stinky ave. (past the locker rooms) ;( and back out to one of the main workout areas.

The front desk staff is pretty friendly, and I appreciate that, but if you can afford it, work out elsewhere (uh like the Super Sport next door, I guess).  Haha!

I would give Zero stars if I could.

I wanted to take a tour of the facilities before I signed up, and the staff refused. I simply wanted to walk around for about a minute to see what was in the gym, and they wouldnt even let me do that. They required that I pay the one month fee before I even step into the exercise floor. This is ridiculous; I have toured the YMCA and Gold's without having to sign up for a membership. I didnt know about the 7 day online trial period (you have to bring a printout in otherwise they wont let you in the gym).

The person helping me was a fat asian guy with glasses...dont know his name, but he thinks he is awesome. He got upset when I said I didnt want to sign up without first taking a tour. I was finally going to sign up, and then cancel my membership, just so I could see what the facilities looked like, but you can only cancel on the fifth day after you sign up. It took this guy about 15 minutes to explain that to me. I felt like I was at a used car dealership, because he was constantly pressuring me into signing without giving me any facts about the gym

The next day, I got about 3 missed calls from a 24-hour employee wanting me to sign up. If they really wanted me to sign up so much, they shoulve just given me a freakin tour of the building to begin with.

24 hour is always crowded, and has about half the cardio and weights Golds Gym in Mtn. View does. Gold's costs about $18 a month, and 24 hour costs about $26. You do the math.

i just became a member of this gym in early september. it was either this or gold's gym on n shoreline. when i join a gym i look at its group x classes because those usually, if taught right, are better and more enjoyable workouts than just getting on the elliptical, which i do when there are no classes i like. i usually make it to the 6:30 strength training class on wednesday nights. i wish they would offer more interesting classes at 6:30 because there's no way i could make it there in time for the 5:30 class.

the facility is ok...the women's restroom smells mildewy and, well, like a public restroom...could use some improvement there...i haven't used the showers yet and have no desire to.

i've been to better gyms, but for the price i'm paying, it is not below expectation. i just don't understand why their group x classes are in a different building, technically you don't have to be a member to go to these classes, except those with high attendance and they actually have someone at the door checking off the sign up list...

24 HOUR HARASSMENT is how this should be named. I signed up for a 7 day trial and since then, have received no less than 59 missed phone calls from them(Serious!) after the end of my trial period.

What is disturbing is that the nosey tramps running this place have neither the courtesy nor etiquette to understand that when you cannot reach a person over phone, you need to leave a voicemail stating the purpose of your call. Not once did these cheapskates ever do that. But they keep trying my number with such tenacity.

Well I'm never going to answer your call so keep trying another 200 times and waste your time, you useless bunch of loafers! And I'm leaving this review so that it drives away another 100 people on Yelp from trying out 24 Hour Harassment.

And by the way, the 84 other bad reviews are enough : the place is stinky and filthy
I wish Yelp would seriously ditch such a shady business from being a sponsor.

This gym exists for one reason only. To get you to upgrade to the Super Sport that is a short walking distance away.

I used to frequent this gym when I worked nearby. But now, I don't work. It was only for convenience.

It took me a few workouts to figure out that the free weights area was in the back, past the pool. The free weights area smells like ass and chlorine.

The cardio equipment is outdated and the whole place is a sweatbox anyways.

Then you walk to the Super Sport. And pay extra for sandpaper towels.

I'm not a huge fitness buff, so this gym provides everything that I need.  I chose it for 3 basic reasons:

1.  Price.  When I signed up during a promotion, it was the cheapest per month deal out of all the area gyms.  I don't want to pay 50 bucks for using a treadmill a few times a week.

2.  Location.  Really close to my house.

3.  24 hours!  I don't want to be limited by gym hours, and I'm a total night owl.  It's really convenient to be able to go to the gym at 2 am, at least for me ^^.

As for the facilities and equipment, well it's not the newest or the best.  That's what the Super Sport across the parking lot is for.  But my gym needs are pretty basic, and this gym meets all of them at a very reasonable price.

Here's the deal: you get what you pay for. I got in on my mom's plan a few years ago for 10 bucks a month. So I cant complain too much, but I know that some of you are paying a lot more to come to this rat hole.
I really dont look forward to coming here. How am I supposed to get on a workout routine when all i wanna do is keep my distance from this place?

1. Smells like sweaty ass cheeks
2. Pervy guys oogling you
3. Three feet of stretching area
4. Mats are disgusting, black and smelly
5. machines are old and some of the elliptical machines creak and make noise while exercising
6. The locker room is gross and smelly, the bathrooms in there are rarely cleaned
7. The group fitness classes can be a positive, but a yoga class AFTER an exercise class is soo smelly/sweaty.

Figure out a ventilation system, dammit! I hate this place, but Im not ready to switch to a decent club with high monthly dues.

This place is filthy.  The equipment is scrunched together.  The pool water is foggy (dirty).  I wouldn't even take a shower there because of all the oxidation of the metal everywhere.  My sig. other bought me a membership and I went one time and then told him to get his money back.  That is bad when you are gifted a membership and it's so bad the person asks you to get your money back.  I would like to go back and take pictures of the rust everywhere and post them.

I signed up with this gym when I first moved to CA in 07. Got a pretty good deal of $700 something for 2 years, no initiation fee (please, like I'll pay to be initiated!) and free personal trainer sessions.
After almost 2 years I have to say I agree with every negative review on here.
Cons:
1. Trainers have questionable knowledge. I have knee issues, my trainer was having me do squats that caused pain so I stopped doing them. I heard another trainer recommending the same to another client last night. Reading on google I discovered the key is stretching, which this guy didn't even recommend. Like many places, the trainers seem to be more interested in talking with each other or working with/watching the already buff people rather than the motivated cream puff who has paid them money. Even little things like keeping an accurate count of reps seemed to be beyond my trainer--he simply didn't give a rat.

2. DIRTY locker room. Always long hair in the sinks, stopped up drains, broken door locks on the toilet stalls, water, hair and crud on floors. Many women do not dry off in locker room and merely drip their way to the lockers and stand there, dripping some more. No air circulation and I am repeatedly told that the air handler is down and being fixed.

3. No stretching room

4. Staff that rarely walks around to check on cleanliness, working machines, or loud, screaming, 'roid rage lifters who almost get into fits over machines. I have twice discovered broken machines (ones that would cause injury and thus a HUGE lawsuit to gym) and told the staff. They would only go put a sign on the machine if I followed up 2 or 3 more times. I went in for a body fat analysis before my workout last night and it was 4 points HIGHER than it was a year and 20 pounds more ago. WTF? NO customer service and little product knowledge.

Pros:
1. Great yoga class Sunday am. It is my church. I feel welcomed, peaceful, and sore.

2. 24 hours--it's convenient with hours and locations. No matter where I am working I can find a gym nearby.

3. The gross locker rooms get me motivated to get in, get out and get exercising.

4. I haven't gotten a staph infection or swine flu...yet.

One thing which has changed recently is management is filtering non-members out of Group-x.  So, that's GOOD I add a star.

After this gym gets closed, I will leave 24 hr fitness.

Management made a decision to under-size BOTH Group-x AND the Mens locker room in the Super-sport.  Those are the 2 most important things to me.

After this gym closes, the value of the Super-sport will go way down.

The Super-sport does have some services which might appeal to you (but not me):
Basketball, Nice Looking Pool, Kid Center, Lots of machines, Nice TVs.

This is where I opened up my membership. I was getting pretty freakin' fat and this gym was right next to my work, which was making me pretty freakin' fat.

I came here a couple times and could not stand it. It's way too crowded, way too hot, and way too smelly.

This place needs to be bigger and properly ventilated. I also hate the layout.

I hate this place so much I am going to stop writing now...

A few things:

1) IT'S SO HOT IN HERE
2) Let the place air out, please!
3) More stretching space... I'm squished in an area by the weights and it's frustrating as hell trying to stretch my legs while also being concerned I may kick the person behind me in the head

I come here during the week after work so I can avoid traffic getting back to the city... it makes me miss the Van Ness 24 Hr.

I find it slightly ironic that this 24 Hour Fitness is located on Showers Drive.  Why?  Cause the locker rooms there seriously smell like a**.  Poor ventilation seems to be the culprit of the mal odor; or just plain, smelly people.  The strange configuration of the whole facility makes it seem like a maze.  With a Group X room outside of the regular gym, another facility that seems to be in the back by the swimming pool (that I've never seen the entrance to), plus the regular gym with cardio equipment makes it really confusing (well, for easily confused people like me, anyway).

The new facility that is opening directly in front of the current facility will hopefully be a welcome change to the rank nastiness that can be had at the gym.  Definitely not one of my favorite 24 Hour Fitness locations in the area.

Filthy gym.....I wonder if they even have a cleaning crew.

Outdated and worn out. Everything from the tile in the bathroom, to the cheesy early 90's decor, to the old big screen TVs, to the equipment.

No stretching area. Well, you can stretch in front of all the people doing weights, on a filthy floor, in a space about the size of two coffee tables.

This is by far the worst gym I have ever been to. They are building that new Super Sport and charging $70-80 a month which might be worth it. Honestly though, I have a feeling it will be just as nice as the new Golds, but double the price.

Not really sure yet how I feel about this yet. I've only been there once. It's close to my house and all I'm really looking for is someplace to lift some weights and do some cardio. I'm considering a membership, so we'll see...

The cardio machines are nice. They have all my favorites and enough that I can still get one when there are hundreds of people here in the evening after work.

I'm confused by the bring your own towel policy. I've never heard of this in my life at any gym. So that's weird.

I'm also slightly concerned by how much I feel like a piece of meat in this place. I just tried to get my workout in without looking at anyone, because I was, more or less, afraid... I'm married yet somehow people forget to look at my ring finger and I swear were looking me up and down (this is out of the corner of my eye because, remember I'm avoiding looking at anyone for fear of giving the wrong impression) in front of my husband!

On another day, during a tour with the sales guy, we walked into the pool/hot tub area and I saw about 7 questionable Mexican guys in the hot tub who were looking me up and down, their eyes and looks practically trying to get me to tell all of them I wanted to have sex with them. All this while I was fully clothed and looking far worse than my best. Hot girls in swimsuits, beware! Unless of course you are one of the several women that come in here CLEARLY seeking attention... and possibly shouldn't bother...

UPDATE (1/31/2008): Changed from 3 to 4 stars. I decided to join the club and I really like it. Yeah, maybe it isn't the cleanest, but what do you expect with a bring-your-own towel policy and hundreds of sweating people on each machine? But so far I like it. Up-to-date equipment, machines that are fixed pretty quickly if out of order. And went to a spinning class that was pretty fun!

Update 4/7/08: Changing back to 3 stars. Now that I've been here awhile, I often have trouble getting the machine I want. It also always smells funny and it's so poorly arranged. I hope it improves when it goes to super-sport. I really love the classes there, though. Especially 24 hour lift.

I joined Yelp for 2 reasons: a) relentless peer pressure from my friend Thuy, and b) I wanted to write a review of the San Antonio Ave. 24hr fitness that hopefully would be read someday by their management .

Summary: very cheap if your employer subsidizes memberships, but lots of broken or ill-maintained pieces of equipment.  Poor air circulation.  Pool is just, n-a-s-t-y.  Locker room is also dirty.  Friendly people working at the desk, but IMO they should re-task some employees away from pushing memberships and trainer sessions and into maintenance/sanitation/housekeeping.

This place needs air!  Gasp, there are almost no vents or fans or half-dressed women waving palm fronds.  Especially they need air in the 'cardio' area where a few dozen treadmills, stationary cycles, and elliptical trainers are kept.

In the cardio area there are 4 old projection TVs tuned into various news channels and big networks.  I really don't care about that so much, but do note that when I travel on business, I find that flat panel HDTVs are more the norm in health clubs.  Main complaint is that the first row of precor treadmills are mostly broken - they work, but on some the belts are loose (which could cause you to fall), heart rate monitors don't work, or they bang/squeak loudly when operating.  I always try to use the one 5th from the window which I have deduced is the most reliable.  But it's a health club and they should all work right.

As many have already noted, there are no well-demarcated areas for setting up a mat and doing basic stretches and calisthenics.  What people do instead is just squeeze in a corner of one of the weight rooms or use a fire exit hallway (which also gets no air).

Pool is just wretched nasty and the entrance requires you to walk through weight lifting areas to get there from the locker rooms.  So there are trails of wet footprints and wet flip-flop prints in the hallways that connect the weight rooms.  People need to be required to take a shower before going into the pool area, rather than dipping in the water while they are covered in sweat.  There is more, but I don't use the pool.  I would advise Yelpers against using the pool, too.

Weights and weight room(s) are okay but the gym members frequently do not replace weights after using them.  During busy times, dumbbells and plates are left haphazardly around the bench areas with no regard for who might need them next.  True, this behavior is human, common to most gyms, and not expressly 24h's fault, but that's what they have employees for.  Every now and then I see somebody cleaning up the weight racks, but it's rare.  There are incline, decline, and flat benches for free weights, along with many different resistance training machines.  Stick with free weights and dumbbells, I would use the cable or lever actuated weights only for spot training.

What is needed IMO: one or two more squat stations (I think there is only 1-2 now), replace the pool with a boxing, basketball, or volleyball area.  Any possibility of a guy/girl friendly group sport, pickup games where people could socialize w/ each other?

Crowds: tuesday, wednesday, and esp. thursday nights are a full house from 6-8p.  Those are the hours when it seems there are more young people than usual.  Later than 8p on any night is a good compromise between packed and deserted.

Social: not too many females, fewer young ones, and when they're in the gym they look a bit scared or they have headphones turned up to avoid interaction.  I can't blame them given the vast majority of lechy 35+ males who are the users of this gym.  Unlikely that I would use this place to meet women if the situation were more balanced, but if you're really looking for a meat/meet market, go on Thursdays from 5:30 to about 8.  I am far from a muscle head but I do like the more serious gym user over the person who walks 45 minutes on the treadmill watching TV and talking on the cell phone.

It's late Friday night and I'm curled up in front of the TV after a crummy week and I am just blissfully in tears happy to be home.  Doing nothing.  This is what I do.  This is how I roll.  My attempt to decompress as of late.  Netflix is throttling me and without the 'jects and Stringer and Avon Barksdale, I'm grudgingly surfing the channels:  Anna Nicole Smith is a man (mildly entertaining), other news (no), Jerry Maguire (hell no).  Oh what's this?  The 2006 Met-Rx World's Strongest Man Competition rerun (my 3rd time -- yes, I am sick girl)!  I'm thinking, damn, I really need to get my fat ass into a gym again.  Kauai is going to creep up on me.

Watching Boris and Jarek and Filiou (GO USA!) tossing sand-filled kegs over 14.5 foot walls like bean bags is quite another thing from actually sharing a weight room at 24 with a similar class of beef cakes.  It's kind of intimidating when you're toting 3 lbs 'bells -- therefore, I stick to cardio.  Outside of the fact that MV is INSANE during peak hours, like koreans lining up for a cabbage sale at the crack of dawn, its redeeming quality is the rows and rows of cardio equipment (especially the treadmills with the mini fans).

A few years ago, I decided that I needed to try shedding a bit of fat. I was 26, working long hours for a small company, and didn't really get to see my friends too often. Having a gym that was open pretty much all the time fit my needs, and wants, quite well.

While I did do some weight training, a majority of my workout was on the cardio machines, the ellipticals specifically. There were about 4 large TVs in front of all the cardio machines and I'd find whatever one interested me (usually it was comedy central), tune my personal radio it, and just get to it for 2 hours. I lost about 40 pounds that year and haven't looked back.

lol 24 hour fitness is like the worst run, most retarded group of business people ever.  I was a member in high school, then i moved away for awhile.  When I moved away I was paying 20/month.  I thought this was pretty sweet.  When I tried to come back the guy tried very hard to sell me a 3 year plan at full price, which i laughed at.  since we were about the same age i was seeing if there was some way he could hook me up and I could do the same, but he could do no better than retail.  Which I knew was a joke and laughed at.

A few weeks later my friend, who is a paramedic was over.  He said he pays 10/mo to go to any 24 hour fitness and he could get others on his plan.  So we went in, I signed up and have a 15/month membership until i feel like canceling and I can use any gym I want.  I went to the 24 in waikiki 3 times over vacation and I know they were charging people $23 to use it for one day.  gg 24 hour fitness!

I can't believe the reviews here -- this is "one of the better gyms in the area" ???????????????

What?

I joined here Monday. I am cancelling today. Basically, I have the willies. This place if frigging filthy, and the bring your own towel policy does not help -- most people (including myself yesterday) forget their towels, so they sweat all over the equipment, then move on to the next piece to sweat some more. It's really, really gross. I used the spray bottle of whatever it is yesterday and paper towels, and after I wiped the bike down, I realized my paper towel was now brown.

There's tons of cardio equipment yes, but it's spaced so close together than there's tons of people RIGHT next you and practically sweating on you.

The staff was Ok -- Zac who signed me up ROCKS. However he was wrong about the "fat burning zone" when it comes to heart rate. That's a myth that doesn't exists -- research it, google it, etc. It's simply not true. The other trainer told me I should aim for high reps and low weight. Whatevs dude. I'm looking to burn fat and build muscle. I'm not going to do 15 reps with 5 lbs. They just seemed a little green and not-so knowing.

But really, it's the filth. I can't take it.

I didn't get the feeling that this was a Sports gym when I first entered.  There seems to be three separate rooms: cardio, weights, and one with a bunch of machines (I'm not sure how to classify them, but it's all the legs, arms, abs stuff).

What sucked was that the cardio machines didn't have headphone jacks for the TVs; you have to tune into radio stations to get the audio.  Also, I felt like a lot of the machines were crammed into too small of a space.

It's packed like it was a Bally's (Bellies?) location, but other than that, it's a pretty standard 24 Hour (Fatness?) location.  Bring your iPod for the cardio machines, since you will not be able to see the game scores on the non-HDTV displays.  Knocking off stars for the dilapidation, but this should be an amazing club when they finally move to the new location across the street.

I recommend the back rows for the cardio machines, because you can see the displays better.  This recommendation has nothing to do with the fact that there are rhythmically-moving elliptical machines right in front of me.

The proletarian gym of the peninsula, 24 hour fitness just gets the job done cheap for the masses.  No basketball/raquetball courts nor whirlpools (at least at this location) , but otherwise they've got plenty of equipment.  Don't expect clean or shiny, and the layout is a little weird with the free weights 30 yards from the machine weights, and the aerobics in a different building altogether.

Also, expect to wait during busy periods.  If they'd stop trying to sign people up faster than Dianetics, there'd be some available machines, but it also probably wouldn't be so cheap nor open 24/7.  I'll take the good with the bad.  It's just a gym.

The sales manager was sooooooo pushy when trying to get me to join. So I got really bitchy and personal, and got him to admit that he needed me to make a sale that day or else his boss wouldn't give him the vacation time that he wanted.

To me, that's not a good excuse to force people to join a 3 year contract at a shitty gym.  I had no remorse.

Oh yeah, and the other time I went to a 24 Hour Fitness was in Sunnyvale. I had to pick up my sister (or meet her) and she was in the gym area. The people at registration let me through but then a sales manager kinda shouted, "Hey you! Are you interested in gym membership?!"

Okay...

I thought my local 24hr Fitness was only acceptable, but compared to this location, I'd think my local one is pretty upscale.  This place has the oddest layout.  The free weight room is detached from the "main" gym floor, which requires you to walk through the locker room area, which smells like old sweaty socks.

They have a decent selection of cardio machines, but they don't have ample room for stretching or doing ab work on the floor.  I haven't been inside the women's locker room, so i can't speak to that.

Regardless of all my gripes, I'm glad there is a gym close enough to the office that I can hit when I slack off in the morning and can't get to my own gym.

This place is nasty and overpriced. They spend all their money on pushy sales people instead of equipment or maintenance. I recently closed my membership and now go to the club of mountain view, which is not only much better but also cheaper. And the people who work at the club of mountain view seem to have the goal of the members being healthy....not generating revenue like at 24 hour fitness!!!

A good place to get back the testosterone laced vigor of one's youth, and say HELL NO to impudent idiocy, a rather dangerous affliction in arms reach of any man living in the loving confines of the Female Free Zone that constitutes the entire South Bay.

Although not the biggest or newest in the 24 Hour chain, the Showers Drive location has all the basics you ask for.  Aerobics studio, pool, totally separated free weight area, tons of resistance machines, even more cardio equipment.  I can't speak too much for the personal trainers or locker rooms, as I don't do the personal trainer thing and I can shower at home (live less than 2 miles away).

The icing on the cake for this particular 24H is late at night, when house radio pumps out a good selection of current hits and 80's flashbacks.  "Float On" by Modest Mouse, "Two Hearts Beat as One" by U2, "Der Kommisar" by After the Fire, "Bustin Out" by Rick James and other retro tunes spring to my frontal lobes.

Get in.  Get out.  Shut up and train.  Or as a wise old redneck once said, "If you ain't got your health, you ain't got shit!"

Not the best gym, not the worst.  It's kept clean and stink-free (well, almost).  I had a personal trainer and feel that he did not provide me with anything I couldn't do on my own, nor did he teach me how to work out more effectively.  But he was really cute and since I was paying him he couldn't try anything, so I just got to watch him and he couldn't touch me.  Ha, ha.

I've never had to wait for the cardio equipment, but I do find myself waiting for the weight machines often.

This 24 Hour is moving across the street over by Target and becoming a Super Sport!!  I like this gym when I am in the area.. It's big and has pretty much everything you could ever want!  A pool, tons of cardio equipment, weight machines, a separate free weight room, knowledgeable personal trainers, a pro shop and a separate Group X room in another building!  It's weird because I always see this blonde guy who wears a headband at different 24s!  He is a serial club hopper!  Haha!  I can't wait for the new Super Sport to open!

I like being able to work out at 2am [yes, I know it's unhealthy to work out this late, but my whole life is off schedule, so it's fine], but the staff is INCOMPETENT!

Let me just say this - they cancelled my membership, because these bright kids couldn't manage to update my credit card information. I'm so over it! Bye-bye 24 Hr Fitness!

I'm reviewing the classes and not the actual facility.  Go on the nights when Terri does the 24 Hour Lift classes.  I swear in the month I was going on the weekends...I lost 3 dress sizes.  She does mad amounts of squats and she actually knows what she's doing.  Also since the classroom is separate from the actual gym...you can stroll into the class without having to lug your gym card everywhere.  I'm so glad they're not making me carry that extra weight!  *wink wink*

*edit*
I forgot...the reason why I have chunky thighs again is because they cancelled all of the Sunday classes.  And they were popular too!!!  So lame.

The location of this gym is good and parking is good.  The layout is a maze and probably one of the worst.  Now they built a SuperSport in front of this one, but you can't get in without a upgrade.  It's lame that they are running both gyms, this one is really old but what get's me is that it's DIRTY.  Why can't 24 hour fitness just raise it's fees or do something to make their gym's clean.  It's really bad when you have dust on the floors so when you do situps you kick up dust.  I love the fact that I can use any gym and I use gyms from SF to Southbay, wish they kept up their gyms.
