Los Angeles, CA
This has been my gym for 8 years. My apartment building, a mile away, has a fitness center that is decent and relatively well equipped but the relationships I have cultivated with fellow members in this gym over the years is what attracts me to this gym most of all. Since we moved upstairs into our new space the effectiveness of the gym took on a new dimension. It's spacious and it's layout allows for focused workouts. I appreciate that all the members that I work out with are in consensus that no loud noises and grunts are allowed in this gym. We quickly stand together and let the steroid monkey know that the best place for him to work out is down the street on Fig and 7th.
Two week ends ago the gym was closed for an upgrade and when it opened on Monday most of the faulty equipment was fixed. The place got a whole new look and is fresh and inviting. I enjoy this place a lot and is a true haven to achieve ones fitness goals.
My reason for not giving this place a 5 stars is because it is not truly 24 hours and closes early on week-ends. This gym is open 24 hours starting Monday at 05:00 through Thursday. On Fridays it closes at 10:00PM and on week-ends it closes at 06:00PM. Today after my workout I wondered when this gym will become a true 24 hour gym. 8 years ago I didn't have a problem with it because the place was really deserted on week ends but these days I am seeing a lot more people here to justify it being open around the clock like the name implies. -

Dear 24 hour fitness center
The Economic Climate has changed the world for the good and also for the bad. Many companies in order to stay relevant had to adjust and be flexible in order to survive. Where there is a lot of completion for smaller and smaller number of dollars, good customer service becomes an issue of survival. It is really strange that it takes the ecomny to tank for companies to step up there game when they should have been providing great service all along. While product is important, customer service can make the difference between creating a life-long customer and losing a loyal customer. I'm sure we've all heard those wonderful stories about Zappos refunding customers for shoes long after the final return date and Nordstrom refunding a customer for his snow tires (or was it chains?), an item they do not actually sell. Its good experiences like that which make us loyal, even if their prices aren't necessarily the lowest. I've had some great customer service experiences at 24 hour fitness center in Hollywood and some very, very bad experience at the downtown location that has pushed me to write this letter. But just as good customer service can make people fiercely loyal, bad customer service can lose much more than a single sale. Which, I plan the write about on my blog
On December 14, 2009, I went your location in Downtown Los Angeles located at 505 South Flower Street level B. I have been a customer at 24 hour fitness center for over 15 years during this time period I have always paid my fees without fail.
During the last 3 years my finical situation has changed and I have paid mostly on a monthly basis instead of a quarterly basis. I had to adjust my financial situation like most people had to make adjustments. The important fact is I have maintained my memberships instead of dropping it like most people do with finances are tight.
My payments are due on the 1 and usually I pay it before the due date or a day or two later. My problem with 24 hour fitness center downtown location under the customer service management of Ms Gaston is she has consistently gone out of her way to give me a hard time. On several occasions she has told me that I could not make cash payment and that I had to have my payment paid electronically. (I used to pay electronically but changed it when my account was compromised)
She told me this despite the fact that I had called someone in the corporate office and was told that I could make cash payment. She has done this on at least 3 times and usually someone else at another location will accommodate me and accept the payment like they should. I usually try to avoid this location because of her but because I am in this area a lot I am forced to go there.
On December 8, I went to this location and she informed me that my payment was late and I told her that I had made the 12.00 monthly payments and that I would be changing it over to a monthly basis instead of the 36.00 quarterly amount. I had applied for a new account but I had not received my new account number. Today despite being a loyal customer for over 15 years I was told that I could not utilized the services despite the fact that I had paid my monthly fees. I guess if I was a rich celebrity like the many I have seem working there pretending to be employees she would accommodate me .I guess being a loyal customer of 15 years is not enough ....When we provide bad customer service, do we think about the long-term impact of that? Will that person come back? Will they tell everyone the place is bad or will they begin to look at other companies? All it takes sometimes is one bad experience. On the other hand, when someone receives great customer service, they will come out of the experience feeling like 24 hour fitness center great. I wish I could say that but I can not. Ms Gaston needs to understand that as a manager of customer Service Company guidelines are guidelines .A good manager knows when and how to be flexible that is the hallmarked of a good manager -

This 24 hour is what it is. Its close to work, so thats a plus!
i dont know if its because its underground or what, but the group exercise room is constantly hot and moist, even if you're in there for yoga, blech.
A lot of broken machines, and a handfull few that still have the "30 minute" club limit on them. nothing worse than being in the zone on a a treadmill only to have the thing stop on you - major buzz kill. I do like how you can see a clock from this one any where in the gym, and Larry, the yoga and pilates instructor is great. -

This place works wells for me because it is located in the basement of my building. It is a definite upgrade to the location that was here about 10 years ago. The previous joint would not even rate 1/2 star.
Spacious weight and cardio room. There is also a separate wood floor area for classes. What I dislike about this location is that it seems as though something is always under repair. This week the gym will be shut down from 3/9 to 3/12. Two weeks ago it was the sauna and steam room. One of the urinals was out for months. All showers working at the same time has been spotty. In addition, the locker room is too small. Not much you can do when the gym is right below your office though. -

Do NOT use the 7-day trial pass that can be printed out online. I used it to try this place out & have not been left alone since then. I only went to this gym once & I have been contacted via cell FOUR times in the past 3 weeks. It's ridiculous! I basically get an automated message every week from this place!
If you are planning on trying it out, DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR CELL # when filling out paperwork for the trial pass.
Also, co-ed showers, wth? -

OK so this will be fast and easy....
Alright so the gym is located in the same building as Chaya (which can be a bummer when you are hungry) and you are charged $1 for parking. That alone is a turn off mainly because if you go to the gym often ... that's more money out of your pocket. People say it gets crowded but to be honest ... I've seen worse. Equipment is kinda old but for the most part it all still works which at the end of the day all you want is a workout not a fancy new machine. Weights can be all over the place as well but you usually find what you need. All in all if you are just looking for a good workout, no putting excuses, no complaining and no whining this gym will work for you. IF you are looking for a Spa then you're better off going elsewhere. -

The location is OK for LA. Compared to the OC locations I'm used to, this location gives 24 a bad name. VERY crowded during peak hours (4-8). 24 should think about opening another location downtown or at least renovate this place if they want to hold on to their members. I came here for about 2 months then vowed to never come back. The gym is hot, the locker rooms smell like piss, and it's too overcrowded. There's a good group of obnoxious meat heads in here that are obsessed with their biceps..it's pretty hilarious.
On the plus side, the staff is always helpful and friendly. I guess that explains the 2 stars.
I never thought I'd pay $100+ for a gym membership but all it took was an experience here. I'm now a member of Equinox and it's worth every penny. Thanks 24! -

This 24 Hour Fitness is located in the underground mall below the City National Bank building. Since it's only 5 blocks from where I live, I cannot comment on parking, but since this is Downtown, expect to pay. Compared to other 24 Hour Fitnesses, it's not the best, but it's also not the worse. My biggest woe is that this place is not truly 24 hours and closes early on nights where I may have a late work out. This place is only 24 hours Mon through Thur. On Fri Sat Sun, this place will closed at around 6 or 7pm. Sure, it's probably for business and staffing reasons, but that's a big reason why I'm a 24 Hour Fitness member and not a Ballys or LA Fitness. Other than that, this underground gym has a nice and spacious group x room alongside the cardio equipment which fills a good half of this spot.

I've been to 24 Hour gyms in Oakland and San Francisco, but the downtown LA location is pretty disappointing. The locker rooms smell bad, some of the equipment is out of order, and the place is very crowded. Also it's located inside what looks like abandoned underground shopping mall, bizarre location. I paid $15 for a one day trial and won't be going back.

I really like this gym. I can't speak on the parking situation cause I walk there after work from my office a few blocks away.
Honestly, for a space of this size, I can't ask for anything more. Folks it's located underneath a skyscraper in the downtown of a major city, so space is at a premium. You have to understand that it's not going to be spacious like the OC gyms you may be used to. Big cities tend to be like this.
Yes, it can get crowded, I go at prime time (6-7:30 on weeknights), but nevertheless manage to get great workouts in. They key to this is that I've ditched cardio machines pretty much for good. My cardio these days consists of circuits with jumping jacks, burpees, pushups, squats, all done back to back without stopping. So no more waiting in that treadmill line for me. And in the weight room, most guys are cool with working in with others.
The staff is great, plus the male trainers don't walk around as if they own the place the way trainers do at some gyms.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is cause there do tend to be treadmills & urinals in the locker room out of order more than one would like. -
Review from Alex V.
Well first off lets be honest here, this isn't a 24 hour fitness. This is a partially 24 hour fitness. They're not exactly open 24 hours now are they? Well they are in the weekdays, but not on the weekends. I didn't bother checking the hours before I came here, seeing as the name says 24 hour fitness and all. Boy was I disappointed. So a little over an hour into my workout, I'm told Hi we're closed, it's 6. I looked at the girl completely confused, like what the hell are you talking about? How can you be closed, this is a 24 hour fitness? to which the response was, well we are on the weekdays. So I didn't even get to finish my workout which was a total bummout.
Yeah it has all the other stuff that pretty much every sport has, but who cares, because you can't even get a full work out on on the weekend because they're not open. Also the mats in the stretching area are those cheap black ones. The Active I go to has nicer mats than that. The black ones are super budget.
Ok and the final insult to injury at this place, the parking is free with a validation for 1 hour, so you better work out fast or you're gonna be paying like 1$ every 15 mins. So yeah, this gym to me pretty much sucks and is totally inconvenient. Don't really want to go back, but out of necessity, I'm sure I'll end up there. -

I recently joined 24 hour and got the all club membership so I'm still trying to find out which location I like best so I cant stick to it..since I go to Southwestern, this place is on my way home and I tried it out one afternoon. First of all, the parking situation absolutely sucks. The lot is a block away from the actual place which I don't like only for safety purposes and you have to pay for the parking ($1 w/validation)! The gym itself is buried in the corner of this huge food court/mall thing for all corporate ppl who work in downtown. So it's kinda annoying to have to weed through all the people and yummy eateries to get to the gym.
The gym itself is pretty good. I like it because it's not multi-level so it's easy to see where all the equipment and sections are. It doesn't smell bad and is pretty well ventilated as well. The staff here are nice too; I set up my log in info with one of the trainers here and even tho he tried to sell me a package like they always do in the beginning, he really wasn't as pushy as I had expected. I came here in the middle of the day during the week so it wasn't packed at all and the ppl that were there seemed chill. I wish the parking situation was more convenient because I probably won't come here often. -

This particular 24 hour fitness is adequate. It's not the worst one I've been to, but certainly not the best. It's a 24 hour Sport, but lacks some of the amenities at other Sports locations. The area is small and includes a room for Group X classes, a sauna and steam room, cardio equipment, and weight equipment.
The equipment is mostly new and in good condition. The classes are great. This gym offers the most cycling classes. This will truly own you. My whole body got destroyed. There is also a great core class, boot camp, and pilates. Again, totally owned from beasting in these classes. Many of the other 24 hours do not offer pilates and have very limited time slots for cycling classes. This one has like 4 or 5 during the week. It also has Zumba, abs, bodypump, S.E.T, and Lifting classes.
My main complaint about this location is the weekend hours. This is due to the location. The location is convenient in downtown, but is part of a center that closes early on weekends. It closes at 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays =(
Pros: Great classes, easy to reach location, good service
Cons: Small gym, crappy hours, parking is a biotch -

You know what, after joining and cancelling the Ballys/LA Fitness for about 24 hours due to NASTY conditions, and patrons, this gym is all I can ask for. Gold's seems nice, but the price is too steep. Girl just needs a treadmill, stat. I don't care for all that zumba and aerobics, just a place simulate those awesome Balboa Park runs I used to take in San Diego. This gym is clean, and in a cool underground spot. I can walk from home, but I did drive on the way home from work. Street parking on Figueroa is ample and the whole financial district is empty, and seemingly safe at night. No complaints! This is perfect. Warning, there is a pretty big night crowd ( after 10pm, weeknights) For about $30 a month, it's all good!

Pros: Clean enough, friendly staff so far, and decent amount of cardio machines.
Cons: Pay parking, only 2 squat racks, crowded free weight area, and getting flashed by dudes walking into the bathroom.
Regardless of validation, it's disgusting having to pay a dollar every time I go to the gym on top of paying 40 bucks a month. Also the hours suck for Friday/weekends. -

I'm only giving it two stars because of the local. Let's face it if you're in the downtown area, it's pretty sweet to have access to a 24 hour fitness nearby! But other than that this gym is way too small! And if you go in the evening it's extremely packed so don't surprised if you have to wait awhile to use a machine! Also a lot of the equipment is extremely old and run down! Especially the treadmills!! They look do beat up that when you use them it feels like its gasping to be out out of its misery!! And the staff wasn't too knowledgable about the equipment! To sum it up, worst 24 hr fitness ever!!

This place is getting more and more crowded and they're still signing people up. I go to the gym around 7-7:30pm and most times are unable to get on a treadmill. Forget about the weight machines, as they are all in use as well. The place is way too small for the amount of people that show up. It's also super hot in there. With the amount of people they allow, they need to get the air circulating better.

Downtown LA needs a bigger 24 hours!
But this gym gets the job done. I glad they added more evening classes. Now i can go home and eat a light dinner then head over to the gym for a 7pm class. They have Zumba! I'm trying to get there for a weds class.
Couple downside to this gym.
1. cardio deck is over capacity at busy hours.
2. there is a wait for machines on busy hours.
3. the steam room and the sauna are filthy. Smells like sweat and body odor. GROSS.
4. Not enough spin bikes! you have to come 2 hours before the class to sign up and still good luck with that cause people are crazy! Also if you want to reserve a day prior to class...you can with a fee of $2!!! I know its not much but dont we already pay a membership??? -

Parking: There's a structure at 4th & Flower. 24 Hr Fitness will validate your parking for up to 3 hrs. Costs is $1 w/ validation.
The Gym: go down the escalators at the corner of 5th & Flower. Walk through the stores and make a right in front of Mrs Field's.
W/ all the one way streets I ended up getting lost trying to find out where the gym actually was. I called in and the staff was nice & let me know where to park & where to find the gym.
Overall the machines seemed nice & new in comparison to a lot of their other locations. They have flat screen tvs and the ceiling is high so it felt open & cool. -

This is a huge gym with many types of workout equipment machines and free weights. It is very well run. One problem is they are slow to fix broken machines. I've seen some machines have a "out of order" sign on them for three weeks or more.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. -

I've been to a dozen or so facilities in the So. Cal area and I'd have to say this place ranks in the top 3. The equipment is fairly new and is kept in good shape. I'd say there's at least 60 areobic machines, although you'll find a half dozen or so out of service at any one time. Not much of an issue during the weekends or after 7pm in the weekdays--the place gets pack with people hitting the gym after the work day.
Parking is downstairs and you'll pay 1 dollar with validation up to 3 hours. However, on Mon-Fri before 7pm or so you'll have to park in a parking structure across the street. -

I work out at this gym about 5x week. Here are some quick facts/suggestions about this downtown gym:
-It's below ground, underneath the City National Bank Tower. Moreover, below ground is a retail shopping plaza with a GNC, Starbucks, Post Office, restaurants and bars among many others.
-If you live/work within at least a mile, don't drive, however, there is validation service.
-M-F it's open 24 hours; Sat-Sun it's open 7am-6pm
-It's a small-medium size gym, therefore, areas will feel tight
-limited amount of free-weights and strength training machines
-appropiate amount of treadmills, precor, cardio machines etc.
-spin/dance studio is fairly large
-locker rooms are divided between secured rooms and everyone else.
-best time to work out is in the morning.
The customer service at the this gym is excellent. I feel they do a good job maintaining the gym and making sure all equipments are in working order on a daily basis. -

It's not open 24 hours...
It smells, machines are always broken, women's bathroom is GUH-ROSS. There is a mix of d-bags, USC students and professionals.
I come because it's conveniently located and my membership cost is like $1/month. Also, the staff is pretty nice. -
Review from dave e.
I live downtown so I'm not bothered by the $1 parking situation. The gym isn't bad except at night when it can get crowded. There's a limited amount of machines machines so if some dude decides to use one of the 2 squat racks or 2 flat benches for 45 minutes it just leaves 1 other squat rack or flat bench for the entire gym. I'll probably leave 24 soon for something else. I'm at a point where I'd rather pay more for more equipment and better facilities. If you're going to go every day or every other day it's worth stepping up. Overall though, it's not a bad gym. Especially if you're heavier on cardio than weights. Oh, the AT&T 3G can get pretty weak down there if you use pandora. I wish they would offer free wifi to help out.

Newish equipment ...probably cause its a fairly newer location. $1 parking ain't great. Don't seem like much but hey....if your paying say...$30 a month for the gym...and go 4 times a week. Then u end up paying $46 a month to go to the gym. Get me?

I work in across the street from this gym and it's perfect for a quick lunch time workout. Not the largest selection of equipment but it does have everything you need.
Tip - The place is super busy during the following times:
M-F 12pm - 1:30pm
M-F 5:00pm 7:30pm
I give it 4 stars because the same 2-3 pieces of equipment are usually out of service. I do have a hunch that someone is breaking them, but whoooo knows.

I'm here almost every morning during the weekdays. The reason being is mainly because this is the next best thing from where I live. I vow not to visit the location in Ktown. That place gives me the heebie jeebies.
The machines are usually in well-working order -- I've only encountered a bad machine with a faulty button twice. It's a decent-sized gym that is well-mainted and clean. (It's safe to take a shower here.) I love that it doesn't stink, too.
I've been here during the day and my review remains the same, although it was more packed than it usually is in the morning. I guess the conditions get worse throughout the day and by the end of the day, there is stink and it's overly congested based on reviews. Although it's hard to grasp, I wouldn't be surprised if they were slightly. It's a 24 in DTLA, where half of the people in LA work, and the size of the gym wasn't meant for allllll those people.
But I've actually seen people wipe down the machines.... That means a lot to me!Listed in: The Places I Go Out

I will keep this nice and simple:
Based on early morning workouts...
Clean, decent-sized free weight area, clean working machines. Not too crowded in the early morning hours but begins to get more so around 7:30. If you get here early enough there is free parking on the street until 8:00 or you can pay $1 with validation across the street. -

This place is much nicer than the one on Wilshire and Hobart in K-town.
Even though you have to walk a block after park your car in the building adjacent to the Thomas groups building( in which 24 hr fitness is located) and pay $1 everytime you go there, this place has more treadmill available and more hot guys!!!!
I think the worst 24 hr fitness location is the K-TOWN one. You have to pass all d-bags and ugly ones rolling their eyes to get to the treadmill area on the second floor. Also, all the time, 8 out of 20 treadmills are broken and there are always lines even at 10 pm... it's ridiculous....I do not go there any more even if i do not need to pay for parking. -

This place is pretty cool. Super low price for a membership. Staff and trainers are super helpful, professional and nice. It could be a little bit more clean. And walking through a cafeteria is kinda weird but I find it to be motivating to walk by mc Donalds and get disgusted and then work my butt off. Parking at the garage is only $1 validated. It's never to crowded. Saturdays and Sunday's are great because all the 9-5 er's are gone.

At the heart of the DTLA financial district, this is the worst 24 hour fitness I've ever been to.
#1 The equipment layout is horrible. If the machines were set up in a better layout on the floor, there could be several more common ones in place. Behind the cardio area is an entire row of potential space for machines that is being wasted. There's currently only:
1 Smith Machine
2 Flat Bench Press Stations
1 Leg Press
Yet there's two tricep extension stations?
#2 As you've read many times in other reviews, way over crowded. Come before 5pm or after 9pm or you won't have a positive experience. Expect to keep asking people to work in or you'll have to stand around and wait.
+1 Star for the fact that there is four water fountains. Two on each side of this underground dungeon. -

It seems that nowadays, this 24 hour fitness is just as bad as the rest...
- No Ventilation = Stink and Mustyness! Turn up the air people!
- Long Lines at the Machines during after work rush hour
- Filthy Women's bathroom (Clean it up please)
- Broken TV's
- Lots of machines that are down or need to be fixed
- People dont wipe down cardio machines after they've just dripped a gallon of their bacteria filled sweat all over it! Gross!

After being a member to another local DTLA gym, I'm in heaven at this place. No 4'11" meatheads in sight. Place is relatively clean for a gym. I generally tend to do late night work outs after 9pm and never have had a problem getting on an elliptical or having the weights occupied. Downside that on weekends the gym closes at 6pm. Secure underground parking and validated for $1 up to 3 hours.
