Review from Chad P.
Santee, CA
LOVE LOVE LOVE this gym!! I have worked out at 24 Hour Fitness for a few years now and each one is very different from each other. I was turned on to this particular 24 Hour Fitness by my girlfriend and, although it costs me more per month because it's a Super Sport, it is well worth the extra money! I worked out here for one day to try it out and signed up for the extra payment when I was finished with my workout!
Nothing beats having all towels provided to you and the gym facilities ALWAYS being spotless! Also, BRAND NEW equipment!!
I didn't give this place a 5 star rating because they have recently started only giving you a towel when you enter the building, instead of being able to grab any size towel whenever you wanted out of the locker room. They also run out of the small towels during peak evening hours on weekdays. So I have to carry around a big body towel.
Additionally, some of the equipment has started to get a little worn and it seems to take a while for them to replace the items that have been worn. Specifically, the rubber getting cracked and/or falling off some of the handles completely. Also, the 2 ropes they have to attach to the big multi-station equipment have worn and with real heavy weight, I am afraid the rope could snap.
Other than the above items, the only thing missing from this place is a couple of racquetball courts. Add those and this place will for sure be the one-stop place for everyone!
Happy working out!! -

Although the gym itself is very good, the management is very lackadaisical. They take a real reactive approach to keeping the place maintained versus a proactive approach, that is, making sure that things need maintenance/repair before they need to be repaired. Most of the electronic day lockers in the main gym don't work for whatever reason. One would expect that maintenance would be more of a priority at a gym where a premium is being charged.
This 24 Hour Fitness SuperSport location could be easily improved with new management that truly cares about the facility rather than the present manager who takes a real hands off approach to meeting the needs of the members. -

El Cajon, CA
This is the best 24 hour fitness in the area and I can explain why...
The layout is friendly and easy to navigate, unlike Santee. It is bigger and more spacious than Grossmont and Rancho SD.
Davis, the manager, is approachable, willing to work with you and takes customer safety seriously.
The spa and "wet" area is nicely done and easily accessible from locker rooms which offer FREE TOWEL service! Yes you do not have to bring a towel or shampoo bottle--they provide those readily.
They also have both digital combination locks and "bring your own lock" lockers. So in case you forget your lock, you can use the free digital lockers.
The classes are taught by some great teachers : Luis (Zumba), Kerry (yoga) and Julie (water aerobics).
There is a little problem with leery old men in the pool area for the past 2 years, but Davis has listened and is taking care of his members.
One last negative thing, cars seem to get broken into semi-regularly. It has never happened to me, but I would make sure to not leave valuables in your car.
If you have kids, you can bring them for $3 and they will watch them while you work out. -

I've been a member of 24 Hr Fitness for close to 10 years now. yeah yeah, I am the gym user who goes months at a stretch paying for my membership but avoiding the gym like the plague, whutofit?!
Anyway, a girlfriend and i are both on the workout wagon again, and she invited me to join her for a workout last weekend at the gym she goes to, the one no El Cajon. Cool, says I! My membership allows me to go to any 24 Hour Fitness gym, so I drive out, park my car, and saunter in. I enter my phone number scan my index finger (Woohoo just like the MV gym!)...and thats when the tires come to a screeching halt.
I am informed by a condescending 20-something that my membership applies only to all "regular" gyms, and since this is a SUPER Sport gym, and my membership doesn't cover it. I'm told I can UG my membership for $10 more a month, and I can go to this gym. I asked him what the differences were, and what the extra $10 bought me, and he responded, "Towel service...and stuff".
...really?!
He let me work out with my friend on a guest pass for that day, but I was told very sternly I would only be allowed to work out THAT DAY and I had to upgrade or couldn't come back.
The locker rooms are nice, and the equipment was new and clean and I liked that there were sanitizing wipes available to wipe down machines. That being said, other than the towels I saw zero difference between this gym and the regular Sport gyms I go to. I won't be upgrading, and you can be sure I plan to contact 24 Hr Fitness directly and lodge a complaint that my "any gym anywhere" membership is now invalid and no one informed me. -

Paying an extra $10 a month to workout at THIS 24 HR Fitness gym is just WRONG.
Sure this facility has state of the art equipment to workout on, and sure it has size to go along with it, but aren't we already paying enough at 24 HR Fitness? It's ridiculous to be charged an extra $10 a month to workout at a facility that you can get just as good of a workout at any other 24 HR Fitness around San Diego.
Remember...a workout is what you make of it. Not the gizmos and state of the art stuff that's provided...just my 2 cents about this place. -

Now that our 3 months "FREE" membership is up from the class action lawsuit we realize why there was a class action lawsuit in the first place.
Danny, who signed us up (and I asked him twice and he explained it the same way both times) said since we prepaid for the first month and the last month if we canceled we wouldn't be charged.
So, they put our membership on freeze and I spoke with this guy Mike and he said the same thing as Danny, however, to remove our account from freeze status they needed a credit card number in there.
Low and behold! We were charged immediately, even though our "first" month had already been paid for.
So, we should have two months that we already paid for plus the one that they charged us for and shouldn't have.
Oh yeah! And don't expect anyone to call you back when they make an error on your account because that's not likely. I've been waiting for over a week now. Now, I'm sending my husband in to deal with them.

Ok...The ONLY thing that separated the El Cajon gym from the others was the towel service. Now, if we want a towel, we need to go to the front desk and ask for one.
I usually bring my own towels anyway, because the quality of the towels had been downgraded since the opening, but I think its lame to have to ask for a towel to work out/shower/pool...
I've been to every level of gym throughout and this one tries to be fancy, but it doesn't quite live up to the "super" in super sport!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have been going to this 24 hour fitness regularly. The facility and service is nice. There are always clean towels at the counter. The staff is friendly and courteous. The gym is maintained in a good working condition. This gym is not crowded as compared to other gym's around San Diego. There are always plenty of machines available. If you want a good workout, this is a right place.

24 Hour Fitness 'Super Sports' are the pinnacle of fitness centers. I recently cancelled my membership to a hip downtown gym because I had so many issues with poor customer service, broken equipment and overpriced membership with little positives other than a clean workout environment. Anyway, I used to be a member of a 24 SS when I lived up in Laguna Hills and I JUST found out that there was a SS in San Diego. Upon realizing this I drove over to the El Cajon SS and all my fond memories of the Andre Agassi SS club in Laguna Niguel: http://www.yelp.com/bi... were brought back to reality. What a pleasure these super sport gyms are!
Huge selling points with 24 Hour Fitness El Cajon Super Sport:
* Clean Lap Swimming Pool
* Workout Area not cluttered and organized w/ dumbbells in place
* Extensive selection of equipment with duplicates of dumbbells
* New 'Hoist' brand machines= awesome
* Fully-functional jacuzzi with hot water and powerful jets
* The best abdominal exercise machine in the history of the world
* Terrific warm-up area with hip flexor, hamstring, and multi-muscle stretcher
* Full-Court Basketball court with 6 backboards and friendly pickup games
Negatives (for me):
* Unfortunately a bit of a drive from downtown (14-16 minutes each way)
* Busy during 'rush hour' 5pm-7pm (like most gyms)
All in all this is hands down the BEST gym from downtown to Mission Valley to East County and in between. I do wish it was a bit closer to downtown for me but I feel it's well worth the 15 minute drive each way to have an exceptional workout facility that is clean, has ample new equipment, and has friendly patrons and staff. I've only been a member for a few weeks and already made a few friends during pickup basketball games and while working out.
I go to the gym to get my workout done and get out of there but it's always nice to workout with friendly people who are 'on the same page' with you and re-rack weights, put back dumbbells, and allow you to 'work-in' without giving you nasty looks. There's a nice mix of clientele from 20's somethings to moms and dads to older teenagers to some older folk and even competitive body builders. I like the variety and you won't find idiot guys wearing sunglasses with their hair waxed up or the meat market feel you might get at other gyms. I like the fact that there's no pretentious vibe like the previous gym I belonged to and I truly get excited to drive to the gym now. This 24 Hour Fitness gets 5 stars from me and I sure hope 24 Hour Fitness starts building more 'Super Sports' ... especially in the downtown/Mission Valley area! Keep up the expansion of your amazing Super Sport Clubs 24! -

El Cajon, CA
I'm not a member so you won't hear me complain about having to pay extra, etc...
I received a free 7 day pass just so I could write a fair review for my fellow yelpers and the conclusion is: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Here's why:
Parking lot: It is always packed and people drive thru any direction they want. The security guard spends most of his time on the front side of it so he wouldn't see a car being vandalized (not the best neighborhood to begin with) if you park towards the back. Also, other patrons double park or park too close and you can't get into your own vehicle.
Entrance: There is an entrance on the right and exit on the left, both one way doors, neither are marked and the windows are obscured.
Lobby: The customer service desk is high and the staff hide behind it. Had to do the old "clearing throat" and "hi" trick twice.
Store: The store is small, they sell the basic thermogenics, powders, vitamins, etc... and of course logo tees and such.
Childcare: The childcare has a buzzer "security" feature you must press to be let in to drop off or pick up. I don't see the point because I was let in to see my friends son. I guess I have a trust-worthy face.
Bathrooms: They are very nice and the hand soap smells so good! The towels there were always very stocked, difference from the towels in the main gym, which were always about to run out.
Pool: Oh the pool. It only has 4 lanes, it is heated. There is the regular crowd of men that seem to hang out there. A little uncomfortable for a lady to use. It is indoor and is next to the hot tub and the sauna, so it is VERY stuffy in there. The tile surrounding it is always wet, of course, so tread carefully. Everyday I went, there was an older, creepy looking man in the hot tub, right by the entrance. So much for getting in there!
Cardio machines: There are lots of them, so there's always one open. I stayed on the treadmills. Nothing fancy. Precor with a narrow belt. No hr feature and basic programs. Some have tv's attached others don't, none have fans. My treadmill at home is SO much nicer!
Weight machines: I went at different times each day and this area is always busy. The cable machines have been taken over by the muscle heads. No room for a lady there. The freeweights are kept neat and for the most part people rerack.
Trainer section: There is a small training section in the back/side. I was told this is where you train with a trainer, but you are also free to use if you like. Also, the trainers take their clients out to the main floor, so I don't see the point of advertising this area as "training area". Also, right next to it is the trainers office spaces, which makes it a little weird to have your butt sweating next to a person that's on the phone or computer "doing work". Humph!
Cycling room: Nice and fully equipped. Mirrors on every wall, not very big so I'm sure you'll sweat lots. My tour guide has not taken their cycling class, I didn't either, but I don't work there so....
Basketball court: There are some people in there shooting hoop, some working out, some running around it. Which leads me to what this gym needs:
I can't believe that 24hr franchise didn't think to put an indoor track into it's state-of-the-art "Super Sport" facility. This is East County! It gets hot outdoors in the summer! And some of us don't want to be limited to running on a stationary treadmill for summer training! HELLO!!!
Also, this place is lacking that inviting feel. Feels just like a business! No one cares if you come and go. No one notices you. I guess they feel they're being personable when they say goodbye (most of the time) on your way out.
Membership: I was offered a $20 enrollment $40mth membership $15mth extra per child for childcare (2hr limit) and $40 more monthly to add my husband. That totals $125 a month!!!! I only paid $41 at the gorgeous Rancho San Diego YMCA for my whole family: Husband, me, 3 kids (free childcare). I will be going back to the Y!
Thanks but no thanks 24Hour! -

Okay here's the deal, I'm a gym rat and this place by far has the most advanced selection of equipment available and may possibly be the best gym in Southern California, but the location sucks. Why did the choose El Cajon as the location for the best club ever?! For those of you that don't know downtown El Cajon is the land of crackheads. It was voted as the methamphetamine capital of the world at one time. I'll go into this further, but first I'll explain the perks of this place.
Pros:
This place has every piece of equipment imaginable. From Free motion cable machines, and all Hammer Strength equipment, and a plethora of exotic equipment that I have never seen before. For those that love cardio equipment there are enough LCD flat screens to rival the best sports bar in the county. The also have a indoor b-ball court, pool, and sauna. Sweat towels are readily available along with antibacterial wipes and dispensers. Another plus is that there are mirrors everywhere which makes it easy to admire your pump.
Cons:
It's El Cajon. I've already had 3 incidents during my 10 visits. 1) Crackhead with no shirt or shoes is yelling at members outside of gym. 2) Male crackhead riding his bicycle while chasing another crackhead falls over his handle bars in the middle of the street in front of my car and almost gets run over. 3) Female crackhead diving in the 30 mile/hour in wrong direction right at my car.
Other than that it's the greatest gym! -

I've been to several different 24 hour fitness locations, and this is definitely one of the best. I only have a sport membership, but today was the "grand opening" event, so it was free for anyone to work out at the gym. SCORE!
Immediately when I entered, I was greeted by the friendly workers and set out to explore. This gym is a Super Sport, so of course it's gonna be bigger than what I'm used to, but I was still amazed. There were PLENTY of ellipticals and treadmills, some even with personal tv's. Lots of different machines, a huge basketball court, a nice pool/spa combo, free towel service, and several fans and tv's lining the ceiling. I think what I loved most about this place was the abundance of new machines and the cleanliness of everything. I expect gyms to be nasty, but this gym looked spotless and it made me feel more comfortable working out here.
I really wish I lived closer to El Cajon + had a Super Sport membership because I LOVED working out here. El Cajon residents, take advantage of this really awesome gym, you won't regret it!! -

First I have been working out for over 30 years, Been a member of Family Fitness "before it was taken over and became 24 hr fitness", sad to say this gym(s) have been going down hill every year! The ppl that work there are fine, they are always kind, and don't see any issue with them BUT the Business End and Corp Management must have issues or just out to make a fast buck off the ppl that pay massive start dues and then quite .. SAD..
You may want to know that the 24 hr fitness was "F" rated by the BBB for many years!!! yes "F" and then all of a sudden up to "A" this is not right.. I've also heard that BBB is not taking MONEY to UP the ratings of Such... SAD how the world is going..
I visit the Balboa Gym, Grossmont and the Rancho San Diego and sometimes Mission Valley. THEY ALL have some good points but the BAD out weighs the good :( most of the time the floors are dusty NEVER MOPPED OR SUCH, dust flying around.. I am a man but also hear from the Lady's I know there that ALL LOCKER ROOMS ARE DIRTY, FLOORS are a MESS, Trash on them I even stepped on GYM on the Locker room floor!! what type of ppl they letting in to this place? No one uses towel's on the benches, AS THE RULES SAY.. I DO to protect myself from others... THE GYM FLOORS are over busy, too much packed into the areas and no room to movie around during busy hours. They say NO GYM BAGS ON WORKOUT FLOOR but there are always TONS OF THEM ALL OVER THE DANG PLACE no one enforces the rules.. Showers are most of the time NOT WORKING, so many of the workout EQ is "out of order", and as for the new El Cajon Gym what a joke that is.. it used to be an ACTIVE GYM! they make it Ult Sport and yet it don't even have what SPORT gyms have!!! its just an new way to MAKE THE OLDER MEMBERS UPGRADE and pay more for less!! sure its new and clean but that will change in a year or more .. trust me...
THE AC in most gyms is something to wish for, poor AIR flow and you can smell others body order and more.. FACT IS you lose MORE WEIGHT IN super cold temp then hot! all you do with HOT temp is sweat and your body puts that water weight back on within an hour .. so what a joke... The Grossmont Gym has the front doors open now as everyone been bitching about hot HOT and stuffy it is.. they KIND OF got the AC to work yet keep the doors open and let the AC OUT!! I can't believe that the CORP., ppl don't have Audit teams that go out and do something or even have workers have ck list that needs to be done every day and signed....
I give it 2 stars as its ok but used to be 5 stars 25 years ago... now its going down hill and the CORP don't give a damn.. most of the SPORTS don't even have the same stuff .. so how can you call it a sport if its not the same as other sports.. ultra Gym's are not worth the money.. trust me CK ALL THE GYMS OUT like LA Fitness and such.. OR if you have room just buy stuff for your home.. I don't pay much as I have been a member for so many years but I'd not pay what they ask for these days.. HONEST!
I post this in HOPES they get a MAJOR CLUE and no that we the users are all getting upset.. trust me there are more PEOPLE that are starting to talk Trash about 24 hr fitness these days!!
GOOD LUCK -

Recently rejoined 24 Hour after a LONG hiatus. I've been going to this one with my fiance and his friend around 8pm during weeknights, and dig it. The staff is friendly, the Jersey Shore factor is low, and there is a HUGE selection of stuff to work out on. It's one level, it's laid out well, and they have digital lockers plus free towels/towel service.
I signed up for the 29.99/mth membership, but when you go to this one you have to upgrade a little bit. Honestly, it's worth it. Clean, bright, overall nice. I haven't fully checked out everything yet (beyond a walk-through), but here are my quick + / - rundowns:
+/- In El Cajon. Less than 15 minutes from my house, but the opposite direction of everywhere else I go.
+ Pool
+ Jacuzzi
+ Lots of parking
+ Clean
+ Big selection of machines
+ Kid zone
+ Basketball court (not something I'm interested in but I'm sure others are)
+ Cycling room
+ Friendly staff
+ Not crowded (at least during the times I've gone)
+ Sales staff managed to be helpful without being aggressive
+ Digital lockers
+ You have control over the TVs
Also they have this ...cage thing that looks pretty awesome as far as creative pull-ups and all that sort of thing. So overall, this place is cool if the location isn't a big deal. -

24 hour salespeople are known for being horrible, but the ones here surpass the stereotype.
I've been a member for 5 years with two accounts and can tell you this place is too good to be true. It may be pretty and state of the art, but the employees don't practice good business, and they are rude.
I will just stick to my regular membership, which possesses no attitude. -

The Zumba class is my new favorite groupX exercise. However, there is NOTHING more hilarious than watching some people attempt to follow the routine. No offense to the white folks, but most of y'all cannot grasp the concept of rhythm. When the instructor and the group goes to the right, there's always 4-5 of you who go to the left and vice versa. Sometimes, I'll watch you get your feet tangled up and trip. Here's my advice: why don't you stop thinking so damn hard? Simply listen to the music and let it carry you away. In the mean time, keep doing your thing because you really make my day :D

El Cajon, CA
I give this a 5 for the towel service, swim suit centrifuge and the almost perfect choices of machines. A few I like they do not have, but that is the only negative point.
The positives, especially for a runner or an absent minded gym member is that one does not need to bring a towel, card, lock or anything to the gym. I go on a long run, stop in, use the jacuzzi, put my running stuff back on and hit the road again. The towel service is wonderful. The showers also are always operating and the fact that I live a half a mile away makes it even better.
A subway store is opening up soon. This gym is excellent. -

went here today, definitely the best 24hr gym ive been to.. sux its all the way down in el cajon, i live down south so i usually go to the new one in imperial. just had to go today since my friend's babysitter lives down the street and decided to try it out. ITS HUGE!!! lots of cardio equipments, went around 1730-2000, lots of people but it doesnt get crowded unlike other gyms. lots of new machines, no waiting for others to finish. they have a separate section for personal trainers to train their clients. i like the diversity of people that go. only if i live closer i'd be here everyday.
also, i have the all club membership but i guess i have to upgrade to super sports to be able for me to go here. like i said, i wouldnt mind the monthly dues, only if i lived closer.. haha.. -

Kudos to those who, despite having no rhythm or those who have difficulty picking up the technique, participate in the classes to get healthy and in shape. If you are one of those people who laugh in a Zumba class at the expense of those trying to better themselves, you're a lot uglier than anyone's dance skills! Here's my advice: stop being so insecure and worry about yourself. If making fun of people makes your whole day, you have a ton of issues to work on.

My wife and I both have had a lifetime membership for the past 8 years. We plopped down our membership fee and were told, as lifetime members, we could get into any 24 Hour Fitness and it's affiliates. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!
Shortly after it's opening(finally!), we entered this "state of the art" facility with excited anticipation. We were greeted by a snooty, gelled up hair, 20something, valley guy. We were told that our membership didn't include this location (Main St. El Cajon). We tried to clarify, what we thought was a misunderstanding or misinformation. This flamer wasn't going to hear any of it. He wasn't even going to allow us to tour the facility unless we wanted to "upgrade" our LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP! I could feel the pot starting to come to a slow boil with this skinny little jerk. So, I asked to speak to the manager.
I was introduced to another male staff member who looked like they might take physical fitness more seriously.
We were taken on a brisk chaperoned tour of the new facility. Granted, it has quite a bit more room than some of the other 24 Hour Fitness locations (the building use to be an Albertson's Grocery store!). But, it appeared to have the same equipment to fit my needs that the nice facility in Santee has.
Granted, the parking is great. But, I can do without the snooty, uppity attitudes this place has and just drive 8 minutes the other way to Santee, and feel appreciated.
Good luck, El Cajon 24 Hour Fitness. I miss the friendly people at your old location. -

Tahda! SUPERSPORT! What this means is that they offer towels for free. Nice i really like that. Other amenities include some of the best elipticals for my knees and range of motion, basketball court sevral group classes sauna and steam room pool and jacuzzi. I think this place is nice and spacious only gripe they had a boot camp class that i was going to take part in because they said a friend could join all 6 weeks free. just for thopse saturdays. Upon arriving with my friend they said since she is not a 24 hr member was but no longer is, that she would need to pay a fee for the next 5 weeks . No thanks. And for the bootcamp the just to the goals by weights and not body fat lost which wasn't how the program was pitched to me. The one in santee has most of the amenities this one does except for the fact that they have no towels and it smells more like perfume and cologne in a bro type atmosphere. This one is clean and i can focus and plug my ipod into the machine to listen or headphones to watch the tv. Luckily I was grandfathered into this gym when the one on fletcher closed or else there would be an additional fee to use it. They also have a little place where your kids can be as you work out.

I really enjoy this club. I previously went to pure fitness in El Cajon and HATED it. This is a chain more so than pure fitness but its run much much better. Also I love the classes, the instructors are super helpful and if youre new they make sure to keep an eye out for you, which I appreciated very much! You dont have to bring your own towel or lock because towels are free and the lockers have a self set lock, so you set your own combo. The pool is kind of small but the hot tub is big and the sauna and steam room are an added bonus. I love it and feel you probably will too!!!

SUPER Sport? Why would anyone pay for a SUPER sport membership in San Diego? I believe this is the only SUPER sport here, so why would anyone want to pay extra just to go to this gym. I don't think the towel service and tv's on certain cardio machines justifies the increase in price.
I used to go to the old 24 active in el cajon on some occasions, and found out that if you got your membership there and/or went to this old location 50% of the time then you can go to the SUPER sport at no additional cost. But if you didn't then you are lucked out and will have to pay an additional $12 a month just to go to this new gym.
Don't get me wrong, this gym does look nice right now. But its only a matter of time when the machines and weights get old, and the pool and locker rooms are not kept clean. Plus the staff here can care less about you and any questions you have.
If I were considering a new membership here, I would pass on the SUPER Sport and just get the SPORT membership which is a lot cheaper and lets you go to many san diego 24's. (Will save you $$). Theres a decent SPORT in santee, rancho sd, and la mesa.
Check out costco, they currently have 24 ALL-Sport memberships available at $299 for 2 years. That's about $12 a month compared to the $45/month being offered at the SUPER Sport.
And honestly, if you can afford the $45/month membership, you are better off going to a better gym other than a 24. -

Great Gym! It's the biggest, newest and best 24 Hr. Fitness location in the County. Got Grandfathered in for being a member since 1993 and some lawsuit thing. It has such a big selection of equipment, towel service, and exotic workout equipment. The service reps are a bit Douchey in attitude and high pressure, but much parking and room to work out. It's big in here. Ultra Club level. Too bad it's in CrackHead El Cajon. If you live in East County, it's worth the trip here.

I've been a member of many gyms, but I think this is my favorite so far. It might not be the most high-tech and flashy gym but it has everything I need. I never have to wait for a machine, it;'s clean, staff is friendly and lenient, classes are diverse and fun. People of all types are there just to work out, great place for a hook-up or show off in the shower's.I have never been to a gym that feels like home
