This is where you can find me 5 days a week taking care of the weight training portion of my fitness program. After moving to LoHi 3 years ago, I found this to be my closest 24/hr location. I recall being upset about making the transition from a Super Sport (much larger) facility to an Active one. The size difference, machine selection, and just breathing room generally, is drastically different. Active locations are built around the idea of fast-in, fast-out workouts for people who visit the gym a max of 3 days/wk. They are not built to withstand the crushing volume of patrons that this area has of people like myself who desire much more. The planner who made the decision to build this broom closet in the Highlands apparently didn't to their homework on the demographic. But like I say, boo effing hoo right?

Anyway, about the club itself, here are a few bullets:

-Small in size, 2 floors (cardio on 1, weights and group fitness on 2)
-No pool, no hot tub
-No spin classes
-Very crowded during peak hours
-Good parking
-Educated and friendly personal training staff
-Small pro shop (don't buy anything - WAY OVERPRICED)

Well guys, it looks like we're stuck with this for now. Hopefully the exec's up at corporate will hear our cries of agony and build us something bigger, SOON!

I wish this gym was better, it's so close to my house!  I can't handle it anymore; I am looking for a new gym.  It's too crowded at all hours of the day and it's filthy.

The last straw was a group class I took, the floor was so disgusting I just had to mention it to the instructor who said she has complained too but they refuse to do anything about it.. ewww really?  Buh bye!

24 hour fitness is a scam

i hope all members double check their credit card statement for how much they charge you each month, and especially that they have stopped charging you after you close your account!

all their promotions are also scams. i went one day on free day pass and at the end they wouldnt let me leave without giving me the whole entire spiel and then promising i would get 30 days free...all i had to do was reserve it on my credit card. foolish enough, i did it and sure enough they began to charge me 40/month and it was the biggest hassle trying to get in touch with someone with any intelligence at the place to have them stop it.

arggghhh

I agree with other reviewers that this gym is crowded, but good luck trying to find a gym that is not crowded at 5pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday. In order to avoid the crazy cardio machine line, I just take classes after work instead. Love Everlast Shadowbox and all of their classes really.
The only reason this place doesn't get 4 stars is that the parking really sucks, and the people waiting for the next class barge into the classroom before the previous class has had a chance to catch their breath, let alone put away their equipment. (But the club can hardly be held responsible for the last one.)

24 Hr Fitness is over sold and under staffed.  I joined cause they have tons of spinning classes but the problem is there are hundreds of people who some how sign up in advance when that is not allowed in the first place.  Then all the other machines are taken so I walk around wasting time looking at MILFS which isn't necessarily bad but I'm not paying 30.00 a month for some old eye candy.  Then I canceled my contract due to work and they kept calling me every single day even though I had a legitimate reason to end the contract.  They are a bunch of crooks and run an over crowded gym.  Go to Bally's or some of the smaller no name gyms..  avoid 24

Al the reviewers got it right. This place is simply too small to handle the volume of members. I used to go to the Arvada club. Unlike this place, it had plenty of space, a pool, a sauna and was fairly clean. I was excited when 24 Hour Fitness opened up a place near my home. What a disappointment! The place is a disaster.  To be fair, the staff probably can't keep up with the cleaning when the place is always so packed. I'll wager, the company is saving lots of money in this place with so many people buying memberships and the lower overhead of this tiny club. Unless they build another LARGER club nearby SOON. There will be one less member standing in line for the treadmill. I'm dropping my 24 Hour Fitness membership and going to a more expensive but usable club.

Adios 24 Fitness.  This gym is way too small with way too many people in there.  The floor is always wet with rain/snow, it stinks of sweat & there us always a 15 minute wait for a treadmill.  I question the cleanliness in there as well.  There is one sanitation bottle with paper towels that is accompanied by a note saying to use only if they have missed a spot.  Say what??  It's not like the staff is cleaning machines in between use, wipe downs should be mandatory!  They don't even stock tissue in the bathroom.  If you are able to hit the gym during off hours, I suppose it would serve it's purpose.  For the rest of us 8-5ers, this place blows big time.  You get what you pay for.

Finally had to cancel this gym. Such a shame because it's only a few blocks from my house but it's just TOO crowded at all hours. I only joined for yoga and all the classes are always full - meaning people show up and are turned away or stuck doing poses outside the classroom near the stairway - but the Saturday class especially was a nightmare. Then they canceled the Sunday morning class, which was the least crowded. It's too bad because I really liked some of the instructors as well as the guest instructors that were brought in. So then I decided to try weight machines upstairs and they were either always full or just grimy. So I started using the treadmills downstairs and then realized I'd rather just walk outside than stare at a parking lot. They also need a bathroom upstairs. But the most annoying problem was my membership - there was always an issue because I moved here from a different state and the plans weren't exactly the same from WA to CO. Hard to believe when this is a big national corporation. In order to change anything, I would've had to start over and pay more initiation fees. The whole thing was a mess so finally we just canceled. Now my husband goes to the rec center at Berkeley Park for $12 a month. It's always empty, the machines are clean plus they have an indoor pool.

Why, why, why didn't they put a bathroom on the 2nd floor? Now, I have to drag my lazy ass downstairs every time I need to take a leak (and that's frequently folks, cause I try to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated).

At least they have an elevator, cause I NEED to get my money's worth. I use it every chance I get.

Conclusion: I'm a spaz. Alfred's hip-hop classes leave me frustrated. I'm too slow mentally and physically. He shows parts of the routine once and adds on from there. I have the memory of a gnat. Dancing and working up a sweat is fun but I just get discouraged and I NEED to see results and this is kind of a time waster anyway.

Yoga. Let see: I love stretching but I pretty much crossed off yoga too. Another time waster without any results. Plus, I just detest some of the positions are part of the class. Ugggh! I don't remember all the GOOFY names but they hurt my wrists, ankles and elbows. Feel my pain.

The trainers: well, I had my "free" sessions and they were pretty much worthless. The first session consists of sitting down and putting everything down paper and yakking. WTH? The remaining sessions are not that useful. The trainers show you a couple of exercises that you would probably never use again - EVER. Dumb stuff that is complicated and hard to remember (duh!) A waste of time for the most part.

Give me a treadmill and some free weights.

I normally go to the 24 Hour Fitness in Boulder, but I spent the day in Denver and wanted to get a work out in.

There isn't enough machines for the amount of people, it's cramped in the locker room - which was kind of dirty.

It's not like it was HORRIBLE per se - It just made me appreciate the 24 Hour Fitness in Boulder....

I recently joined here because a friend of mine gave me a much needed kick in the ass!

I do enjoy going here even though I am not quite at the place where I can say I enjoy working out, but I am working on that.

My personal trainer Tiffiany is a masochist, but in the best possible way and in the first 3 weeks I transferred 8% of my body fat to muscle.

What I really love is the classes. They have all types and I really enjoy the yoga. They seem to offer it almost everyday which really is awesome.

Never thought I would be cheering on a gym. Here's to the new me!

This place is super tiny.  The machines are packed so closely together that you can barely get around.  The classes are so full that you will get whacked in the head.  There is no towel service, so don't use a machine after sweatyman without cleaning it yourself.  The blue mats for doing ab work are dank and filthy.  The locker room doesn't even have paper towels.  Staph infection anyone?

WAY TOO CROWDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This gym is so close to my house that it doesn't make sense for me to go anywhere else, but it seems like is gets more crowded every day.  The main class I go to is yoga.  The maximum occupancy for the room is "32" and I have counted 60 people in a class before and there is not enough room to move.  Would it really cost them that much to add a couple more classes?  The temperature in the room is often very hot or very cold.  I did 4 personal training sessions that I received for free with my membership, these were not very useful.  They seemed to be just a standard set of exercises, not very "personal".  Overall, it seems like 24 Hour Fitness spends all their money on marketing and as little as possible on trying to meet the needs of their current members.

Mostly I just wanted to chime in because Alexandra missed the day care.  There is one.  They also have a pro shop that sells sweatbands and water bottles -- I can't vouch for sports bras.

And I can't personally confirm, but I've been told there's a steam room in the locker room.

Don't discount this club based on the previous review -- call and ask if there are amenities that are important to you.

I love the trainer I'm working with.

All that said, the club is too crowded too much of the time for my taste.

I don't quite understand why they thought this was a small-club neighbourhood.  As Alexandra pointed out, it's the closest of its kind to downtown and it serves a large and affluent population in the Highlands.

Not that we need a pool or a basketball court, but hot tubs, spinning, sauna (possibly steam) and more equipment would certainly have been a good idea.

this is just a warning.

yeah, it's a gym.  just like any other gym.  except people will pay more to go to someplace like 24 hour fitness, or bally's or the like.  it's got treadmills, and classes, and weights, and weird machines that i feel like i need to mentally prepare myself (and make sure no one is watching!) before using them. no pool, though.  it's not that "big and fancy."  it's got gymrat douchebags, normal folks and those, well, weird folks.  (like, why are they in a gym?  in carhart pants, using the stair-machine-thingy?)

my brother put it best when he said: "it's a gym.  only morons DON'T feel like morons when they are there.  either you are a douchebag gymrat or you are a normal person that feels like a moron."  in response to my:  "i feel like a moron when i go there..."

fortunately, i wasn't one of those people who they suckered into getting a lifetime membership or any of that stuff.  i'm probably the smartest customer they've had yet.  oh no...they will not get me.  nope.

i went there once with a free week-long trial pass.  no, i have no fitness goals.  i live in colorado.  have you been OUTSIDE lately?  seriously, i just wanna figure out these damn machines.  and maybe run on a treadmill for an hour.

most recently, i was able to receive a free three month membership.  (YEAH!)

and here's the warning.

i was told that it came with one free personal training session.  excellent.  now, i can learn the machines AND what i should be working on the most.  (as if. we all. don't. know.)

WRONG.  the "personal training session"  was a "fitness consultation."
it's. not. the same. thing.  and then...they try and get you.  oh no, buddy.  my membership was F-R-E-E.  i don't have the fundage to pay for 5 or 10 actual sessions just because you sat and wasted my time for an hour- calculating my body fat.  and telling me how much i need to turn some of that fat into muscle.  when i could have been doing my thing.  on the treadmill.  or a machine.

did i mention it took an hour?

then i had to do a coupla squats to check out my...ass?  i mean, posture.  and when they were done-  i felt like i needed to starve myself or run for 20 miles.
here it comes...

"what i would recommend is...  personal training sessions at least once a week for 5 weeks.  or twice a week. for a grand total of..."

hey dudes.  i just wanted to learn how to use the machines.
maybe the "membership consultant"  needs to figure out that "fitness consultation" isn't the same thing as "personal training session."

i wanted someone to kick my ass. once.  for free.
but, i'm going back.  because i've got a membership.  for at least three months.

Clean and plentiful machines, good staff for the most part. If you're going to get a personal trainer, I recommend Marco, he is in pretty high demand however.

Small location but quite a variety considering it's just an Active.

This long anticipated Highlands Village 24 hour fitness finally opened up a couple of months ago, and believe me, it was a relief to many of us that were driving 15 miles each way either to the Cherry Creek or Lakewood locations.  This is now the closest 24 to downtown... But this club is only an active so, no pool, no sauna, no steam room, and  no day care... Nope, they don't even sell sports bras or sweat bands... You gotta bring your own.

The air conditioning has been a blessing lately and the upstairs has all nice new weigh machines.. Which makes me feel macho and strong because for some reason the weights are lighter at this gym then the others.

* Star one is for being closer to me and downtown
** Feel that breeze star two is for the awesome air conditioning to cool the sweat
*** Glorious parking star three is for the massive amount of accessible parking right outside the gym
**** Watch me bench 200 star four is for the new machines and for making me feel stronger then I will feel the next day at the Boulder club

Visiting from out of town, I found this club close enough to where I am staying, and I have gone in the morning every day and have not found it very crowded.  Plenty of weight machines to use, and I didn't have any trouble getting on a treadmill, but I am sure that varies with the time of day.  It is a small club, and it was hard to find space to put down a matt to do some stretching, unless you go out on the balcony.  There are only three showers in the women's area, so it could be tense if you want to shower and go to work, but most people come and leave in their workout clothes, and don't use the facilities.

This facility has top notch weight room options and nice cardio equipment, and that alone is the only thing that keeps this location from getting one star. Three stars? Not a chance. This is simply because the intangibles far outweigh the tangibles at 24 Hour Highlands Garden. This place is horribly congested. I've been before work, after work, and after dinner, and it's always the same. Regularly having to wait for a cardio machine, and it never failed that I would find myself waiting for free weights, benches, and machines in the weight room. When you try to improvise and switch up the routine to keep moving, you will regularly fail. More congestion. They could have built a parking deck, and I question if there would be enough parking during peak hours. Going on Monday? Brace yourself for a two hour workout, and consider yourself lucky if you get an hour of actual exercise in. I am very happy that I do not have to deal with this place anymore. If you can workout between 11PM-5AM, this may be the place for you. Otherwise, get ready to waste time in the congested disaster that this 24 Hour Fitness is.
