Carson, CA
Overall it's a nice place, decently clean, lots of equipment, lots of free weights, clean bathroom when I went. No matter where you go, you can't get away from the lazy slobs that can't seem to remember to rack their weights, so I won't hold that against the club.
Normally I go to the Carson 24hr, but it's being painted...so I decided to go to the Compton place. Overall it's not bad. For some reason it feels more cramped than the carson gym. They have more free weights, which is a good thing. The cardio is upstairs, and that stuff is defintely packed in kind of tight. The heart rate monitor on the eliptical machine I was on didn't work, but no big deal.
The dudes doing squats put chains on the weights so they make noise when they go up and down...wtf?
You won't go wrong going here.
OH...I only got shot at once....ha ha, just kidding. -

I have been to most of the clubs in Southern California and Las Vegas. Hey, its a gym. If used correctly, you are going to be sweaty and yes, smelly.
I went to this club at 12:00 pm on Valentines Day 2012. I had some business close by so I said why not give it a try even though it is in Compton. Get over the Compton thing people. Its just a city with hard working people and an unfortunate representation in 90's rap music.
The staff was pleasant and the club looked well kept. The bathrooms were also OK. The floor could have used a mopping. There was soap in the dispensers and I wouldn't be afraid to use the toilet. There was that one guy following me into the bathroom giving me a look like I was the last cheeseburger at a weight watchers convention but I will just chalk that up to my good genes and not a reflection of this particular club.
The weight machines were clean and functioning. I was going to give the place 5 stars but out of the many treadmills, I was hard pressed to find one that ran, can be elevated and the headphone jack worked, all at the same time. Three of the stair climbers were down as well.
Summary: Its an OK place to work out, don't let the city scare you, that's not a factor. I can see the potential for it getting packed in the the afternoon so just go early in the day, hit the weights and don't get your heart too set on doing cardio. -

Clean gym with friendly staff. I use it only for the pool to swim laps and the women's shower rooms and locker rooms are clean. There is plenty of parking. I like the fact that no one bothers you while you workout. There not alot of people that go to workout in the pool but ALOT of people go in the sauna. I don't use it but I always see at least 2 people waiting to get inside. I have never used the weight machines or the cardio but I am planning to try the classes. Only other gym I've been to is LA Fitness on Carson and this I think is pretty close to that gym. If not the same quality.

This one is close to my working place, hmmm, I go there for TKB class, and Gwen does everything way too fast imo. But still a good workout.
Gym itself, It has plenty parking lot , lady's locker room looks a bit old, but still kept clean and good to use. And i've used equipments there several times before, it feels ok. And i didn't feel this gym it's over crowded. But maybe it's because MP 24 hour is just too crowded, all the other gym feels ok for me now. :D -

Los Angeles, CA
5:30am gym time? Yep, that's me. I like coming here on the weekdays before work. It gets my energy going, and makes such a difference on my day! Trust me, my students appreciate it!
Despite the fact that the 24hr in Carson is closer and does not require freeway driving, I opt for the one in Compton so much better. Yes, COMPTON, get over it.
First of all, the staff is PHENOMENAL. For being so early in the morning, they have tons of energy and always greet you with you smile! This says a lot considering it's usually towards the end of their shift by the time I arrive. (There's almost always a new face on my way out!)
Second, the equipment is just fine. If there's a problem, just let the staff know, and they'll try to take care of it as quickly as possible, if not, there are PLENTY of other machines available. (Yes, please remember, I am there in the early morning, so I have NO idea what it's like in the evening!) The parking lot can get crowded certain days, but only because of the early morning classes they have available. The SPIN class is especially popular.
Lastly, I know it's in Compton and all, and has a pretty bad rep as a city, but it's really not that bad. Sure, every so often there's a police car chillin in the parking lot, but I'm sure that's just normal rounds...or someone who needed help...or something...yeaaaaaah....
Overall, I keep coming back for a reason. If you've got issues, there's plenty of other places you can go, but try it out, for sure. I know hella people that go to the one in Carson...which makes it SO packed, even at 6am...plus, the staff there was just...eh. BONUS, this location also has a lap pool. :] -

Lakewood, CA
Gym itself is cool, a bit small for a sport but gets the job done. As far as the basketball court, dusty as most 24s are, wish it was NBA 3 point line since it is Magic Johnson, it seems to be NBA length and width however. Competition is raggety, anyone who has played organized ball or balls on the regular and can tell the difference between solid competition and crazy players undercutting, insane fouls, etc. This isn't the spot to play. Literally saw a dude wave his whole team aside 4 plays in a row miss every shot then quit mid game. Woulda been amusing had I not wasted my time driving here. Solid competition can be found @ Orangewood 24 and Anaheim Hills 24. Understanding how to move, switch on picks, momentum of game, etc.

Compton, CA
Let me start by saying if you can't stand the heat get out the kitchen !! Clearly, this gym is located in Compton. Do NOT come here if you have a problem with that. There are far too many negative reviews for such a wonderful gym.
-plenty of parking, if you have trouble walking from the back of the parking lot why the hell are you at the gym?
-Great fitness store with plenty of products and gear.
- friendly front desk personnel that greet you with a smile on their faces and an "enjoy your workout."
- plenty of space because the floor plan is open and you can move around without hassle.
-machines are always clean and usually work. If one machine isn't working there are ten that do !!
-women's locker room is clean . (any water on the floor is expected it's a damn locker room! It's connected to the pool area as well as the showers. Wear sandals if you have problem with that.) plenty of outlets if you want to blow dry or straighten your hair.)
-awesome pool, jacuzzi , steam room, and sauna !! Most of the people are friendly and it is a community feel. If you're down when you come in more than likely your spirits will be lifted.
THIS PLACE IS GREAT ! I LOVE IT ! -

N0! 1 star isn't because its in Cpt...its the gym quality.
I have gone to 4 different 24's..this by far is the on I dislike most and unfortuntely the 2nd one I go to the most for location convenience.
UPs:
Guest services are good
Spacious parking
Free weights are spread out
DOWNs:
-Most equipments are run down for a year old facility
-Basktball court wall pads are torn, nettings are messed up
-Personal training room has a very foul odor (yes, I understand people sweat, but there's such a thing called shampooing ad neutral deodorizing).. I have gone here different times on diff days, and its the same
-Womens locker rooms are more often dirty than clean
-Cardio floor is crowded, and equipments are too close together
-They're always out of sanitizing wipes
And jus an extra thing, for a magic johnson facility they sure can't fix the light on their sign!
I sure am disappointed that for a one yr old gym, a 5 yr gym is kept up more than this one. I wish they maintain their gym for a more enjoyable, comfortable, and sanitary work out! :( -

Long Beach, CA
Okay, first the good. The gym has plenty of treadmills, which in a gym seems to be the most commonly used machine. Staff is friendly, and courteous Parking is plenty, and convenient.
Okay now on with the bad. The water here taste like crap, I do not know if its the city of Compton,if its a filter or what, but it is garbage. Now i stated there are plenty of treadmills, but the problem is that half of them are either not working, or the belt on them skips, which makes it a pain to run on. For a gym that has not been open for not too long that is a little disappointing.
The only reason I visit this gym is, because it is literally 5 min from my home, so it is very convenient. Other than that I mostly prefer to visit the 24 hour on Bellflower, and Spring. -

Not sure how this dump managed to get 4 stars?
The Ventilation is rated in the negative.
Machines; there just were not enough and too many broken.
-1 star for stankness.
I needed my damn asthma inhaler because I could not breathe up in this joint!
1 Star for the bathrooms, clean enough for me to drop a deuce in.
Don't ask what I was doing in Compton.

Most people think a gym in Compton?!? It must be dirty and ghetto. But its not.
Being a girl, I was skeptical about coming to this location for saftey reasons, but its in a shopping center and its really close to the freeway. The members in the gym arent creepy either. The guys dont stare down the girls; its quite refreshing. They mind their own business.
I love coming to this gym because its big with a huge selection of cardio machines!! I've been to different locations where they only have eight treadmills, but the upstairs has a lot cardio machines. I have never had to wait for a machine, there are plenty of them. I also like how the front desk crew are so friendly, they always say hello and goodbye as you walk through the doors; it makes me feel special :)
The reason I didnt give it five stars is because they always play hip hop music, but other than that its one of my favorite gyms! -

West Los Angeles, CA
Why can't the locations in West L.A. be as nice as this one or the ones in Orange County?
I recently purchased a 2-year pre-paid membership through Costco, which by the way is a sweet deal, which I used for the first time last night. I'll have to say that working out at a new gym gives me an extra "umph" to be motivated to get my fitness on. Much better than a dark and dreary older location.
This location has it all: A ton of cardio upstairs with the biggest flat screens I've seen at any gym and the nice thing about the machines is that they have the plug-in function for listening to the t.v. for all of us out there with iPods that have no radio function (so annoying). The downstairs has all the weights and bball area, pool, etc.
Parking is not an issue at all since this is located in an area with plenty of land, easy access to the 91 and a Target and Best Buy located in the same development make it a good multi-tasking location.
The sad thing about 24 Hour is that I'll probably never go to the one near me - Pico since I've heard how deplorable it is, so this membership will be limited to M-F only more than likely when I'm at work. -

I'm a very big fan of this place.
First of all, I love the fact that people think negatively as soon as they hear that there is a 24 Hour Fitness in Compton! You know where all the thugs, bloods, Eazy E, all that danger exists. I'd like to let people think that way because it keeps them away and it doesn't get incredibly packed during rush hours :D
Anyways, this nice size gym has all the things you want for a nice workout:
- Lots of dumbbells
- Lots of treadmills
- Lots of other cardio machines
- Spacious lockers
- Personal Trainer area is ACTUALLY accessible to us regular gym goers. Just be respectful thats all
- Lots of equipment
- Clean facility
- Diverse!
- Clean locker rooms
- Decent size pool
The only complaint I got is that the place can get messy during rush hours. That and there are a small share of idiots who hog the machines/dumb bells to the point of infinity (I know I'm over exaggerating).
If you're not ignorant and want a good workout, the COMPTON location makes a great gym -

Get your 24hr fitness 2 years membership @ Costco for $299. That's $12 bucks a month!! can't beat that deal.
So After work, my coworkers and I would come here to workout. The machines are pretty in good condition and this location is clean. Classes are great, but hard to follow if you are a beginner.
I wished their sauna and steam rooms were not co-ed. It gets pretty packed.
Well after a few weeks of working out, I lagged. havent gone back for a while.. LOL
Over all it's a great location, plenty of parking, polite staffs, clean restrooms. It's a pretty new club that's why everything is in good condition.
Now I just need to motivate myself to go back on a daily schedule. If you are in the neighborhood and need a workout buddy, hit me up! :-) -
Review from Mimi C.
This is a new facility (well relatively) near the 91 Freeway and the Blue Line Metro Station. It's located within the back of a larger plaza housing stores such as Best Buy and Target.
The interior is large, spacious and clean. The weights and machines are located downstairs, the cardio machines upstairs. I can't remember if they have a pool or not. There's a MJ basketball court and classes room. The changing rooms are downstairs as well as the stretching room.
They have very new equipment, above and beyond those in other 24hr fitness. I think the most impressive is the amount of machines they have - it's almost as if you don't ever have to wait to get on them! They also have TVs for you to watch while working out.
The showers are nice too - they give you both shampoo + soap ...unlike some gyms which only gives you the soap. Oh, they also recycle (bonus!).
The only thing I didn't like was that they don't have large lockers (hardly really worth dinging), but for some people who have dresses, suits or whatever that they don't want to wrinkle, having a large locker is nice. Otherwise, this is a nice club.
Oh, the other thing I don't like very much is that there are always cop cars (at least 2-3) circling the plaza. Good and bad I guess.
By the way... I noticed this was also listed under the Hotels category..why???Listed in: 24 Hour Fitness Gyms

Review from Steve C.
Lynwood, CA
I've been working out at this location for about a year and a half. I like its proximity to the freeway, the spaciousness and numerous machines.
I've been with 24 Hour for over ten years and have gone to many locations. This is one of my favorites but I can only give it three stars for the following reasons:
1) The machines that are busted are not promptly fixed.
2) The place used to be pretty clean, but it has become quite filthy
3) Aside from busted machines not being fixed, the urinals and steam/sauna rooms seem to break down every other day.
This place is slowly regressing into a sub-par gym. What a shame since I do enjoy coming here. I'll probably start looking at a different location or provider altogether. -
Review from Kay D.
Long Beach, CA
I am sorry that I have to give one star for my very first Yelp review.
I had high hopes for this location based on the reviews ... but I left this place fearing not for my safety, but rather for my health!!!
I usually go to 24 Hour Fitness late in the evening, cos I hate dealing with the rush-hour crowd. And it's not uncommon that I will go as late as midnight. After all, that's why I became a member back in 1995 when I was in college.
Let me preface by saying that I have been a regular at both Long Beach locations, so I am quite familiar with their, er, "grittiness." I have been to Hermosa Beach in the past, and I recently visited North Torrance and Carson, both of which met expectations based on Yelp reviews (I will avoid Rolling Hills like the plague).
So, if I'm showing up to the gym on the heels of a mass exodus, then fine, it's OK for the place to be a little grubby cos of the traffic. But I was just not expecting what I saw when I arrived at 11:30 p.m. Almost all the floors were littered with bits of trash, kinda like the sidewalks of Skid Row or similar. The women's locker room, though I could tell it was the newer design, looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned in several days. I came straight from work, so I had to change there. I usually see very few, if any, women in the locker room so late at night, yet at this place you'd think it was closer to 8 p.m. based on the traffic. And they had NO problem putting their own towels on the floor, or sitting on the floor, or walking around barefoot on the floor ... a floor that was wet from people coming in from the pool, or the shower, or maybe it was their sweat or god knows what else. Oh, and women were just HANGING OUT in there gossiping about stuff. Just weird to me. At no point did I let my bare feet touch that floor - it makes for a goofy changing act. I even tried not to let my shoelaces touch the floor - that's how grossed out I was feeling.
After changing, I went upstairs for the treadmills. There are a ton of them, which is a good thing, and being so late at night, the majority of them were open. Fine. Yet, I walked by TWO t'mills that were running, on their own. I kid you not. I didn't know whether someone got off them for a water break or pee break and left them running ... just weird as hell .... the janitor was there trying to vacuum the t'mill area, and he looked like he was hating life ... he pretty much laid down the nozzle across the aisle just as I was walking down it, as if he wanted it to be in my way. Finally, I get on a t'mill and it doesn't even start ... I hop over to a neighboring one and turn that one on, and I realize that they are set to 30 minutes max, even at 11:30 at night. WTF!!!
Then, on to the weight area. NO ONE RE-RACKS THEIR WEIGHTS! Thankfully I found everything I needed to find, but sheesh, I had to step over dumbbells and EZ bars and used paper towels and half-full bottled water to get to a 5 lb. dumbbell that was sitting in the 70 lb. cradle. I swear, I don't remember being this put off at either Long Beach location. And both places have annoyed me.
It was almost 1 a.m. when I went back into the locker room. Yes, as crazy as this may sound to many of you, I was planning to take a shower. Hey, that's my prerogative. But I was beginning to dread it, and my fears were confirmed as there was another group of women just hanging out, talking in there! (May I be rude and say that sitting and talking is the LAST thing that any of those chicks needed to be doing at the gym) One of them was lying across the bench where MY locker was, and she didn't budge despite my unlocking it. One other chick was sitting on the floor, and another one was sitting on another bench, and I caught her staring at me at one point ... usually I am OK with undressing there, but this time I just undressed in the damn shower. The damn dirty-ass shower area with doors that you have to slam shut really hard because the hinges are off or something. And there were several women in there too (presumably not all together in one stall) and talking while they were showering.
I had to get back into my work clothes, all the while listening to the first group of chicks sit around and talk. I was just so damn disgusted at this point that, when I finally got home, I sprayed Lysol on my flip-flops and I took another shower!
I am sorry, but as gross as Long Beach Sport also is and how desperately that location needs to be renovated, I would rather go there than go back to Compton, even if this experience was a fluke. -
Review from Felishia L.
Los Angeles, CA
I know 5 stars seems excessive for anything. But I am impressed with this gym. It has all the amenities expected at a Magic Johnson's 24. But it lacks the meat market atmosphere most the others have. I work out and no one bothers me. Also they have the best Zumba instructors I have come across. Only draw back there is it is so good you must come an hour and a half before the class to sign up; spaces are limited. They say an hour, but that line starts at least 1:45 mins before the class. Its worth it though. The staff is friendly, and always seem to speak. They also seem to get familiar with the regulars.

Review from Sajili B.
So far I'm enamored by this location. Magic is a freaking genius. This is one of three options for me in my area that has a pool. This is the top pick since not only is it the newest out of the three but it also has great set-up. The Carson location definitely lacks the awesome layout this Magic 24 has. Pool, BBall Court, Spa, Sauna/ Steam, Weights, Cardio, and since it lacks the mirrored aerobic room it makes up for it with a "stretching" room. Who the hell would want to take those X classes anyway? Just kidding.
I've noticed the trainers that use to be at Carson work or operate here as well.
This is my new gym when the pool is in service. The gym is usually packed and you will have all types of people there. -
Review from Andy P.
Among the 3 Magic Johnson Sport facilities I've visited (Inglewood, Carson, Compton), this Compton location is the best by far. Once I took my first step in, I knew this particular location would be accommodating. The lockers inside the men's locker room are extremely spacious where I can actually fit my gym bag comfortably inside. The shower stalls are also huge and the water pressure adjustable (a little thing I've noticed that goes a long way in gyms).
There is a separate stretching/ab room that contains swiss balls, mats, and small weights. I found this extremely convenient. The trainers area is also accessible as long as you're not intruding on the trainers/clients' routine. What I found most impressive was that this location allowed the patrons to access the use of the bosu balls (there were 2 of them actually). At most other facilities, they're either locked up or hidden from public view.
The cardio area is upstairs and I was very impressed that there were what seemed a limitless number of treadmills, stair climbers, and elliptical machines. All the TVs are high definition and I was happy there are headphone inserts on every cardio machine (tuning to a portable radio for sound is inconvenient at some locations). All-in-all a 24 Hour location I will go out of my way to patronize in the future.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

This a fairly newer gym and the equipment is up to par. Now although I only go to this particular gym during my lunch hour from work I must say the staff is so friendly and everything is always available to me. I have not encountered any problems with the staff or gym-goers. The women's locker room was clean, and as always, you walk in seeing someones body parts you would of hoped to never see in your lifetime, but that comes with the territory. Cardio equipment is upstairs, and there are rows of both elliptical and tread-mils. Upon walking in the free weights are on the right on to the left the resistance machines. They also have their store (on the left before checking in) which carries cold protein shakes and waters available.

This is my reg place for workout at least 3times a week, it's a nice new place but some equipment is already in need of maintenance, sad to say that some repairs take up to a month to get fixed, in the mens showers there is this one shower that's been out of order for ever and ever... Come on you can do better than that, when you do I'll give u another review!

Semi-new equipment with a Compton feel. It gets crowded during peak hours. But I've also been here when it's not as crowded. The cardio stuff are up top. The classroom too. I did a turbo-kick boxing class here, and it wasn't as crowded as the other 24 I've been too.

I've been to several 24 Hour Fitness locations and the Compton facility is by far the best and I'm not just saying that because I'm from here. The gym equipment is pretty updated and has a modern feel to it. After visiting the Manhattan Beach 24 Hour, I realized how good we have it in Compton! The equipment there was so old and rusty that after lifting, your hands literally smelled like iron. At the Compton 24 Hr, I love the set up of the weight area - its big and it doesn't feel cramped. I like how the cardio and weights are on two different levels. Most of the staff I've encountered is incredibly friendly. The only thing I can complain about is the creepiness of some of the other gym-goers. At most other gyms I've gone to, people usually keep to themselves, but I don't know what it is about this gym but a lot of the men in the weight area feel entitled to give unsolicited advice or try to flirt. I go to the gym to work out, not to socialize. Most of the men in the Compton weight room have huge egos and try to lift way heavier than they can and they compromise form.

Art the manager is great. The front desk are great! MOST (not all) MOST of the instructors are absolutely GREAT! and are far superb than , i.e. Sherman Oaks, Fallbrook, Torrance Clubs.
There are a few who make sure that you do the exercise correct, keep rhythm and are very encouraging/positive.
They serve as positive examples and even the Saturday Yoga instructor makes sure she knows your name(s).
This is their BEST teacher..Michelle!
It is amazing how crowded Compton gets--almost wish they were larger. -
Review from Ligaya S.

Yes, I'm a fan of this location, yes indeed! I totally dig this place and was stunned when I saw the facility right off the 91 freeway. It's part of a brand new shopping complex that features a Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, T.G.I. Fridays and other chains. Don't mind that its closest neighbor is the Crystal Park Casino & Hotel, just drive pass it without a blink of an eye, it's not that bad... the gym is in close parameters of the freeway entrance.
I enjoy the set-up of weights equipment on the 1st floor and cardio on the 2nd. You don't feel as if you're on full display as soon as a member comes in through the door. The bathroom facilities & locker room are very spacious and clean. And the most important thing that got me liking this 24 hour fitness....they had both the basketball courts & pool option, Yeah! I've taken a few classes here and many of the instructors are from either the South Bay or Long Beach area so if you find one that you enjoy, you can typically find them here doing the same class without being so packed in like animals (ie. Torrance's tiny group exercise room). Only downsize is that for my personal concern, it's becomes a challenge to find an evening workout partner, which is seriously the ONLY reason that prohibits me from going to this location (it's my personal judgment call on this one). I adore this gym, have referred friends and brought other members to this gym. Give it a try and I know you'll enjoy all the amenities of this location.Listed in: Getting FIT with 24hour…

I redeemed my costco gym membership certificate here a few years ago. The front staff are really nice. This location hasn't been open for too long so everything still looks brand new. I've been here several different times during the day and it's never been crowded. The people that come here are pretty chill. I've yet to see a bunch of douchey people just sitting at the machines not using them as I have at other gyms.

This facility is new and clean but the set-up sucks! The upstairs cardio area is cramped and the downstairs is more spaced out but the personal training/stretching area is weird. Plus, it's ALWAYS packed! I always have to park WAY in the back. Lame...That's why I stick with the Carson location. WAY better.

Long Beach, CA
24 Hour Fitness in Compton is a very nice gym mostly because it's sort of brand new. (compared to Lakewood's facility) As you walk in you are greeted by the friendly staff and upon heading towards your workout routine you will immediately notice gigantic pictures of Magic Johnson. It is sort of creeping due to the fact that there are so many pictures of him. I mean, I know that it's his gym and all but frankly I do not want to be staring at him while I concentrate on doing my sit-up. He sort of looks like "Shrek" if you ask me but enough about that lets talk about the good things. There are 15 flat screen T.V.'s that accommodate you while you work out. The water fountain is freezing cold which is alway a plus and if you play basketball you will love their indoor court. There is a pool for you to swim laps along with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. They play a lot of hip-hop so if you're not a fan bring an iPod. People tend to go here more during the week. Last but not least if you are doing your cardio you can tune in to the channel on the T.V. that's strategically placed in front of you by simply plugging your headphones directly into the machine.
