Huntington Beach, CA
I like this location a lot. Lots of free parking, big gym with a lot of equipment and tons of weights. Everyone is chill at this location.
A good spot if you have a meeting in Carson and environs afterwards. There is a Starbucks up the street and Jay Bees BBQ is not too far if you work out here at lunch -

Long Beach, CA
I've been looking for a new home 24 hour fitness since I've moved to Long Beach. I dreaded going to the nearby Lakewood location, as it is in the middle of a shopping center where parking is scarce, machines are limited and the walls are ugly pink.
After going to this location, I think I will endure the 15 minute travel up the 405; it's a really nice gym.. and to me it is worth going out of my way even with the rising gas prices. It is also near a shopping center, but more on the outskirts near the back of Ikea. Parking seems to be plentiful. I went on a Sunday morning, and it wasn't empty but wasn't crowded either. Staff was friendly; I was scared if I did not have access to Magic Sport but the front desk guy gladly told me I was able to go in (apparently it is the same as Sport type clubs, but these gyms are dedicated to Magic Johnson offering a basketball court).
It is a two story gym, where the first floor covers the basketball court, locker room and classroom in the back, and the cardio machine area in the front. TVs are conveniently placed for cardio machine users, and the machine themselves have audio jacks to select what TV to listen to. Upstairs are the free weights and weight machines, where members can travel up the large open stairway or an elevator. This upstairs area overlooks the first floor and the basketball court. The locker rooms are huge!! So many lockers and they have TVs inside as well! The overall area is clean, organized, kind of modern (not super modern, they have a blue and grey theme, no 1993 pink walls with ugly patterns), and overall a nice place to workout.
I guess the only thing I didn't like was that it seemed that a fourth of the machines were not running, mostly the treadmills and the ellipticals. That's about 10 machines right there... -
Review from Donna C.
I got my membership through Costco about a year ago. I think it cost me $300. Now, I believe they raised it to $350-$400.
Signing up was easy. I bought the membership at Costco, came to this 24 hour fitness, and they brought me through the motions of signing in. Pain free, which was great.
There's plenty of parking, especially in the morning when I go. I've been to this gym at 5pm and it is packed! I'd avoid the gym around this time.
When you walk in, you punch in your telephone number on a keypad and then scan your forefinger for detection. I hate this thing. I always have to do it 2x before it senses my identity, but it's better than bringing your ID with you.
This gym has the equipment I use when I work out: stairmaster, elliptical, treadmill, group classes, free weights. The thing I hate about this place is that most of the elliptical or treadmill equipment are either not working or improperly working.
When you get on the treadmill, it seems like it's working fine, but then you press the button to start and the walking belt doesn't budge. One day, the treadmill I chose wasn't working, but this nice gentlemen next to me showed me a trick: hit the center console (which contains the stop button), then press the manual button, and then increase the speed. Weirdly enough, it works. Sometimes, the treadmill works, but the belt is slow and have stopped on me mid-run...not very safe.
The staff is friendly and greet you on your way in and out. There's a children's play room for parents who bring their kids with them to the gym.
The weight 'room' is upstairs. The weights are never where they're supposed to be, so finding them can be quite a task. People don't seem to know that it's common courtesy to return weights where they belong -__- -

I live near this gym, but I always go to the manhattan beach location because it's across from work, but I went three times to the Carson location and it was horrible. The first time I went, it was nearly impossible for me to find a machine to use and it wasn't because it was packed, but because every single machine was broken. All of the cardio machines had a note stating they were sorry for the inconvenience and they should be working soon. Well, I went back a few days ago and I am pretty sure more machines broken. Finally on the 3rd one I realized they would never fix them. In addition, I went upstairs to try to do leg workouts and all those machines were also broken or the pads would fall off. Honestly, save your money and sign up somewhere else or attend a different 24. This one is gross & cheap.

This location is always packed throughout the day. If you are signing up to be a new member or renewing your membership, you will definitely get pressured hard into signing up for a personal trainer session.
The machines are hit and miss. Most of the treadmills are screwed up and have a delayed feel. Some treadmills feel like they skip a beat and makes you slide back. Make sure to do a test walk on the machine beforehand, if you start off with a run/jog you might just have a mis-step and break an ankle. Some of the elliptical machines are jacked up. You might find yourself on one that wont increase resistance when you hit the button, or the audio jacks for the tv might not work.
Upstairs where the weights are seems to be the best part of the fitness center. All the machines seem to be working the right way. You'll have the occasional breakdown of the leg machines but everything else seems to maintain operational status.
3 stars because of the cardio equipment needs an overhaul. -

This gym is close to work so that's a plus for me.
This is a busy gym and its showing it's age. I see lots of out of order signs on the treadmills & stair masters. But love my Tuesday & Thursday spin class. (note to new people, these classes need sign up so you MUST show up an hour before class to get a spot) -
Review from Mark C.
First of all, thanks to Costco, acquiring a membership for 24 Hour Fitness is a steal. It originally cost me $299 for a 2 year membership (recently increased to $319) which is roughly $13 a month. (This effectively bypasses the vagaries of dealing with salespeople)
The gym itself has a high ceiling so it never feels stuffy. The people at the front desk are very chill and convivial. Elvis, in particular, is a really cool guy. You can definitely engage in some NBA chatter if you're in the mood.
A majority of the equipment is in good condition. I also really love how the dumbbells are in increments of 2.5lbs instead of 5lbs. The foibles of this particular 24 Hour include not enough cardio equipment, no pool, and no sauna. However, there is always something on sale in the shop. The sales will always be 30%-60% off select items and will last a month. It's a great way to acquire health products that are normally expensive.
The busiest times of the gym occur between 5:00pm and 10:00pm. I always avoid those times so I never had to wait for any equipment.
And if you don't want a gym membership... Maybe you should look into a Shake Weight: http://www.youtube.com... And if that's not extreme enough for you, then I suggest the Tug Toner: http://www.youtube.com...Listed in: Late Night

I love this place.
I am new to gyms and I got the Costco membership thing in Dec. Yes I'm a band wagon gym person but this place has helped me keep on track with my goals.
The two stories and lots of space is great. But where do I start.
I guess I'll go through the logical progression...
First things first. There is ample parking in a giant parking lot that shares space with an IKEA, Target, and the carson mall. Food options a plenty and basically has anything you could need before and after a gym.
Once you step in the staff always greets you and says goodbye when you leave. The bottom floor has all the cardio equipment and super high ceilings. Good call, I've been to 24s where the cardio is upstairs and they don't seem to realize heat rises and sweaty nasty funk does not do well near the ceiling. The high ceilings allow for that hot nastiness to dissipate which I really appreciate.
Their weights and stuff upstairs is fairly easy to navigate, the basketball courts and class room are off to the side and easy to find. You'll never get lost here, unlike some gyms I've been too.
everything about this place makes it easy to just get started. This is definitely my gym of choice. Yes there are machines that often don't work but that's true of ALL 24s. These machines are all fairly good and get the job done. I have been very pleased with my purchase and this gym has been very motivating and encouraging.
There is a good mix of people too ranging from gym rats, to first timers so no one should ever feel out of place.

Keep in mind I'm in the gym at 6am in the morning and I spend 1-2 hours a day @ 6days a week.
Pros-
It's relatively clean at this time.
Weights are racked but at times in the wrong spot. At least they are there.
There are plenty os step mills.
Members at this time are pretty cool.
Pool, sauna, steam room and basketball court.
Cons-
NOT ENOUGH SQUAT RACKS. There are only 2. Squat racks are NOT for curling!
There is only 1 Leg press Machine.
Not enough Smith Machines. There is only one. Get in line for this one.
Most of their cardio machines are not working. -

I usually work out at the Long Beach Sport on Bellflower , but they closed it for remodeling. Then I started going to the one in Lakewood, but the treadmills are always taken plus they don't work to well. I realized they had the Magic Sport so I decided to check it out. At first, it looked really nice and spacious, but after going there for awhile, I can't stand it! First of all, the people who work the desk don't even say hi, they just give me a blank stare or just ignore me, the guys take forever on a machine and don't care if someone's waiting, they don't re rack the weights and its all over the floor, they have no etiquette! And when you leave, they don't say anything to you, not even a bye or have a good day! This place is really ghetto! I'm glad the SuperSport in Long Beach is now open and I'm never coming back here again!

A solid three stars...maybe should have been 4...maybe not...
My first impression was not good...They had three lazy ghetto youths working the desk on a weekday when I first went to sign up. After they shucked and jived for about 15 minutes a very attractive young girl with a tight ass came to complete my membership.
She showed me all the facilities, then tried (bless her heart) for a 1/2 hour to get me to sign up for personal training sessions for like $130 for three sessions or something. I declined, and declined and declined, she tried to psychoanalyze me, etc. etc. etc. I nearly gave in, because she was quite attractive, but I stuck to my guns and she finally gave up.
I realized I didn't really want to go during the week...
The gym has a lot of nice newer equipment, but a lot of it is busted, and it seems like it takes a long time to fix.
I've been going for three months now, and my overall impression of the place is good. I wish they would fix the busted equipment quicker, and the place is too fucking packed after work, or on the weekends...so I go before work. It's a pain in the ass to get up in the dark cold, but it's worth it.
There isn't anything glamorous about working out, it's a pain in the ass, it stinks like an olympic sweat sock, and there aren't any shortcuts to losing weight.
Stop eating like a pig, and burn calories. The Magic-Sport is just as good a place as any to do it in.
There is plenty of different equipment to use, so you don't get into as much of a rut.
I would recommend the place to someone -

Kid's Club is awesome! They are super friendly, and it's like 3 bucks or something. You can also take your kid M-Sat for 20 bucks per month. The basketball court is still really full, and the floor needs to be refinished, or at least dust-mopped regularly. It is really dusty and you constantly have to wipe your shoes off to get traction. I still really like this place, but they need to do something about the basketball arrangements. I don't know how much another court would cost, but if you are going to call yourself a Magic Johnson's 24 hr Fitness, you should at least have two courts, so there isn't a 1 hr wait time in between games most of the time.

Little smaller than most 24s but this one gets a lot more dirty than I've experienced at others. Users tend to just toss used paper towels all over the place and it doesn't really get cleaned up as well as weights are just left around which is a pet peeve of mine.

3.5 to maybe 4 stars
Love that they're always blasting hip hop here (sometimes even obscure stuff or old school). If I forget my iPod, I just listen to their music which is a nice change. It gets crowded during rush hour as all gyms do, but they have enough cardio equipment to make that not a big issue. One of the only gyms that has at least one functional rower. Equipment is new enough, though there are always a few cardio machines under repair indefinitely. I like that they have a couple Purell dispensers in the gym in addition to the cleaning fluids and paper towels. They should hook their TVs to radio stations so that everyone can tune in through our own MP3 players instead of plugging into their docks. I can't plug into a dock when I'm rowing, son. Tons of parking, since it shares the lot with Ikea. Great location by a lot of restaurants and Target as well. -

I so promise that this will definitely be the shortest review ever! So with that said, I do hope that you enjoy this very limited review and don't be expecting many of these from me! LOL!
24 Hour Fitness, need me say more?
Carson location: Huge! 2 floors of activities! (cardio on the 1st, weight training on the 2nd), Man / Women's locker, dance/kickboxing/cardio room, 6 courts basketball gym (this is what I'm here for), etc... Still in pretty good shape despite not being on of the newer gyms around.
Can get pretty crowded since the location is pretty good! Ample parking area as it is shared with IKEA!
So for all you 24hr heads! Not a bad gym to visit if you are not too far away... then afterward, if you feel like pigging out after your workout, you always have IKEA's discounted swedish meals or Carson Buffet right across the street for your culinary cravings! (Ok... it's not no celebrity chef but the cost of the food will surely make you smile after your workout!)
Have a good workout Ya'll!
(I told you it was going to be my shortest ever!) -

To be honest, I've only been to one other location so far (UTC in Irvine--not a good representation of what all 24 hour finesses are like) but I can honestly say that I'm pretty happy with this gym! I'm a regular at this location (I go at least 4 times/week) so I feel like I know it pretty well. First thing I noticed was amazing customer service. The employees are all really nice and greet you as you walk in and out the door. The facility itself is well equipped--you have all your cardio equipment downstairs (the stairmaster and rowing machines are my favorite) and the strength-training equipment upstairs. It gets pretty busy here on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, so be prepared to hunt down a machine if you plan on going after work. There also is a huge basketball court which always seems to be poppin', and a group X room for the classes. Although I basically live at this gym, I have yet to take a class. Who wants to go try hula with me?
I also really like the music they play here. It's a good mix of old and new hip hop which I'm all for, especially when I leave my headphones at home.
The only downside of this location is that there are a lot of machines that are in repair/don't work. What is it with people and breaking the machines? From the condition of the other machines, nothing looks old so I'm surprised at the wear and tear. Also, I remember the rowing machine was out of battery for a week before getting new ones...
If you're looking to invest in 24 membership, I suggest buying a pass from Costco. For $319 you get membership to all 24 hour Sport locations. It's a big sum at first, but in the end it's equivalent to ~$13 dollars/month and worth every penny spent--if you intend to actually use it. -

The bf goes to this location quite often and I've heard good things yet I've never gone myself.
So this past weekend, I finally did and I'm glad I did!
It was a Saturday evening around 7pm and the place was rather empty! I asked the bf whether it gets packed at certain hours and he tells me it is usually not as bad as the one in Torrance I usually go to (corner of PCH and Crenshaw), so that is good to know.
All the machines are the new models and it is right there as you enter the building. Plenty of them to choose from. Weight lifting equipments are all on the 2nd floor. Plenty of TVs at various channels will keep you entertained while you work out.
Fitness room is open for free weights activities or to use mats for your ab workouts.
The locker rooms are located at the left corner all the way at the back of the gym (if you look towards the basketball gym on the left). I was surprised how spacious it was. The sink and mirror area was also spacious with good lighting. I haven't checked out how the shower stalls were, so I should do so at the next visit.
At the very end of the locker rooms are the unisex steam and hot sauna. A good place to relax and sweat it out after your work out.
Now that I know about this place, I wouldn't mind the extra drive to come out here. It is a lot better than the Torrance location because of its overall newer facility. -

Awesome gym. They have the newest equipment of any 24hr gyms in the south bay area. But just like any other 24, maybe 10% of their equipment is out of commission, but they try their best to keep this place clean, good ventilation, friendly stuff.
No Pool tho.
Used to do their zumba and kickboxing classes, theyre awesome, just gets wayyyy too packed, but thats just all 24hr fitness. -

Carson, CA
I was tempted to give this place 3 stars because i'm assuming that's what others will probably give it once they join. I personally gave it 4 stars because I only really come for the classes and the rowing machine. The classes here are great and the instructors are really nice and helpful. I really enjoy this place but the one flaw (and it's a big one) is that most of the time the place is packed! If you mostly come to use the treadmills or the benches, you'll find yourself in a long waiting line. It seems that there is always a line of 7-8 people waiting to use the treadmills. Upstairs where the weights are is crowded a lot too, although not as much. I'm basically left to use free-weights without a bench when I go to lift.
Like I said, if you're thinking of joining to take classes and maybe using the rest of the gym during non-rush hours, this place is really amazing. It's a clean, big, and somewhat new facility with plenty of equipment to help you reach whatever goal you have. Oh, and there are plenty of really cute girls that come too. That's what motivates me to go at least twice a week. -

One of the reasons why I come to this gym is that they have a sauna, and I like to sit in the sauna after my work out to relax. Ok, sometimes it can be crowded and you have to stand in the sauna like the sardines in a can, but other times you may be the only one in there, it depends.
Other than that it is conveniently located right next to the 405 Freeway, right next to the Mall (so the Ladies can also get some shopping done before or after their workout), and right next to IKEA, in case you need some new furniture.
Plenty of parking is available as well.
It can get crowded in there during the week and you may have to wait to get to some machines. -

Review from andrea v.
This gym is okay. It's right next to Ikea and a shopping center, so that's a plus.
Good:
Lots of parking
Lots of machines
Large open feel
Newer cleaner location (compared to some other 24s)
Basketball court
Recycling containers throughout the gym
Bad:
Smelly! There were some funky smells going on in there.
Co-ed sauna and steam room area smelled especially nasty
Standing water in women's shower area (looks like it needs a drain)
Overall, it will do. It's 100 times better than the one in Glendale with black (moldy?) walls, but not as nice as many others I've been to.
But for a locaion right by Ikea and the freeway, it will do! -

I love that it's two stories. I'm a big fan of high ceilings, especially when it comes to the gym since hot air rises. Yes, I'm particular. It makes perfect sense that the treadmills are downstairs. There are plenty.
I love the classes there. I usually attend Saturday TKB & Body Pump. Very energetic... pumps you up to work even harder.
Crowd here is what I consider young... around 30s or so. I like it. Good place. :)
Equipment upstairs is nice, too. I love using the free motion machines. yay for the gym. -

This is my favorite 24hr fitness besides the one in Lancaster. That one is simply of the chain. It is a super sport. Aw man.... I love that place. Getting back to the review though, This 24 is cool. The equipment is always in a working condition... unlike my everyday location on 120th. Please step your game up 120th... All in all great place. Nice and clean

Review from Kellie M.
I remember seeing a sign saying that says 24hour fitness is my gym. Then why do they have rules about what I can or cannot do?
I have found that there very little difference between 24 hr fitness in terms of the physical facilities. The difference comes with the staff and the overall feel of the gym - the clientele.
The staff at the front desk is ok. Some are very friendly. Some not so much.
The best part about this gym?? The GroupX workout room: It is open all the time. Most facilities lock their workout room unless there is a class taking place. Rules! But at Carson, you might see a person doing a step workout, another on a spinning bike, another doing basketball drills, another practicing dance moves. This is my gym!! I get to use it the way I want to. That really works for me.
If only the guys on the free weight didn't hog them. Dudes: gym etiquette says that you let folks work in on a machine. Stop hogging the machines! -

As far as 24hr Fitness locations go, this one isn't too shabby.
Ohhhh, I just love to get my workout - on!
The Good, the Badd & the Ugly!
The Good:
**The equipment is generally in good working condition & is clean.
**The staff is somewhat courteous.
**Childcare hours are accommodating.
The Badd:
**Trainer costs are expensive.
**The lights in the Sauna are always broken.
**The still water that's always on the floor between the showers and the sauna...is 'effin gross.
The Ugly:
**People hogging up treadmills, walking at a 1.0 pace while talking on cell phones!
**Girls wearing a face full of makeup, like their headed to the club.
**People who dance around and/or practice karate moves in the sauna. WTF is wrong with you??
I'm here 3-5 days a week. The other 2 days are reserved for riding my motorcycle!
Like I said, I like to get my workout - on! So, I'll be back tomorrow grunting, moaning -- groaning & sweating!

I go here a lot. At least twice a week. that's a lot to me considering my busy school, work, church schedule. Their equipments are new. Staff are friendly, helpful. There are only few things I don't like; the fact that I have to pay a dollar to attend one of their classes, the fact that their male bathroom is messy at times, and the fact this one time time that they ran out of napkins or tissue papers. They had none even in the storage! Other than that, this place is good. I'm a fan:)

Carson 24 is the place to be! Great environment, has all the equpiment you need, and a basketball court!!!! I live closer to the 24 hour fitness in Torrance (pch & Crenshaw), but I still would sacrifice the extra drive to get a great workout at CR$N 24.
I usually try to go to the gym around 9am - noonish, but if i can't make it, then I like to go after work which is around 9pm - midnightish. When I do go around these times, it is NOT busy at all. When i've gone to Carson 24 around 5pm, that's when it gets really packed and crazy.
To make this review short..5 BIG STARS for CR$N 24!!! -
Review from Linda T.
I started my membership to this gym in January. While we've had some ups and downs I have to say its still the best compared to my alternatives. I use to be a member of Bally's in San Pedro, ugh, awful...go read my review if you want details on that. I joined this place and its closest to my job, but the Rolling Hills location is closer to my home. I rather drive a bit further and come to this one.
Why? It is much newer, it doesn't reek of musty stinky sweat like the previously mentioned gym do. The locker rooms and bathrooms are clean and smell very pleasant. The showers are also kept pretty clean, doesn't have a bunch of hairs all over the place. The people who work here are nice, and the people who come work out, come to do that: workout. What a concept! They aren't here to pick up on you, or gossip away on their cell phone.
The classes are okay, I can't seem to get into TKB (turbo kick boxing) I am not the coordinated type, so I spend more time tripping and trying to keep up with the moves instead of actually breaking a sweat. I use a polar heart rate monitor and I burn way more calories doing a half hour of stairs or running, than with TKB. The body pump classes are excellent. Its like having a personal trainer push you with your weights and give you proper instruction on how to use the bar. My only main complaint is the equipment. Like any gym, machines break...but does it really need to take a week, 2 weeks, sometimes 3 weeks to fix them??? I don't think it should. Please try improving that CARSON 24 HOURS
ps. buy the membership at Costco for 300, you get 2 years, no sales person hassling, you no monthly payments. -

I've been a member for 2 years and just switched to the new LA fitness in Harbor City (Fantastic, Super clean and new equipment and worth the extra money, it also has a pool and raquetball courts, punching bags etc..). They play sorry rap music all day long. The machines and treadmills are constantly down. The clientele is probably the worst as far as cleaning up after themselves and racking weights. You'll find dumbells and free weights in the steam room and scattered all over the gym. The locker room STINKS and STINKY people in the steam room. Most of the people that I actually talk to at the gym feel the same way. They maybe the cheapest, but some things are worth driving a little further and paying a little extra for...

One of the newest gyms in the south bay. Clean, friendly staff, and new machines. Crowd starts swelling from 430-8pm. I get there at 10, and the crowd has subsided by then.
There are paper towels and cleaning solution for to wipe down the machines and equipment--please make use of them!
There's a kids club for the affordable rate of $2/ hour. I'm tempted to leave my kids there and walk across the parking lot to Ikea and Panera with this affordable babysitting service!
