The pool only has two lanes! I get there at 4am this morning to try to get in some swimming before the pool gets full with all four people only to be told the pool is closed until 5am. The guy who works there seems to delight in telling people what cannot be done and what is against the rules. The pool is absurdly small for a place with this many members AND they have restrictive times, so no matter how well you plan and lose sleep to get in you may well end up frustrated. The loud ethnic music and no can do attitude is quite off putting.

I like this gym.  I've been to a bunch of gyms in the area (Glendale, Arcadia, Pasadena, downtown LA, etc), and this is my favorite of all.  It's clean, big, and not too crowded if you go at the right times.

Times are changing, however.  Over the past year, it's gotten dirtier (especially the bathrooms) and more crowded during weekday rush hours.  The parking lot actually fills up completely now.

Damn it.  It's as if everyone read the Yelp reviews recommending this place over Pasadena and took heed.  Oh well.  I still like it, but everyone, please, stop coming here already.

A year ago, I cancelled my 24 Hour Fitness membership because I was sick of the dirty, crowded, and stuffy Pasadena gyms.  After checking out this location, I rejoined and got the pre-paid 3 year plan with 4 personal training sessions thrown in.  Six months into my plan, I'm still a huge fan of this place.  I've only had to wait for a machine on one occasion, but I've noticed that the gym seems to be getting more crowded... so maybe they're selling lots of memberships these days.

The Tuesday night dance class with Alfred is super fun and is a pretty decent workout.  The Saturday morning Aqua class helped me ease back into a workout routine (low impact), but I lost interest once I no longer found it to be challenging.  My sister raves about the S.E.T. class.  And as far as personal training goes, I think Mich is the best.  I absolutely loved my sessions with her.

Overall, I definitely like this location more than the Arcadia one, although Arcadia has better treadmills.  I am super happy to have finally found a gym I enjoy working out at, where I don't get grossed out, and is not crowded for the most part.

I used to work out at Pasadena  downtown location more often but the I got so tired of the parking situation. After I found out about the Altadena location, I have been working out here more often than the Pasadena downtown location. Parking is convenient and it is pretty clean. However, the gym has started being really crowded compared to 6 months ago when I started working out here. I am pretty happy with gym but somehow the people who work out here are not so considerate of others, especially in the wet area. People wash their feet with sweaty clothes on in the jacuzzi, wear dirty shoes in the sauna spreading germs and bacteria. eeeee... Some people just let under aged kids play loud in the pool. Overall though, I still prefer this location over the Pasadena downtown due to the parking situation and being less crowd.

This 24 Hour Fitness is similar to the new one in Arcadia on 1st. It is brand new construction (2 years old) and has a 3 story garage built next to it. IT is a 2 story design similar to many of the new construction 24 hour gyms in the chain.

This one is on the border with Pasadena, and is actually in West Altadena. It is near the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, and not far from Juhn Muir School, home of the Spartans.

This is a Magic Johnson Signature "Sport", so it has virtually all the amenities, including all the equipment, adequate space for everything, new lockers, and a large Group X and full Basketball court.

The lap pool only has 2 lanes, whereas Arcadia has 3. It is across the street from a down home BBQ and Rib place, so you can come here after you digest your grease. There is also a new multistore retail space next door, but it is virtually empty. Nearby the neighborhood is lower middle class, with many smaller 2 bedroom type single family homes.

The members a mix of a little bit of everything, although most are younger and active, rather than an older crowd. The facility is nice, but I think they are looking to boost membership, as it isn't very crowded, which if you go here, is a good thing, unless they decide to close it for lack of making money.

There was a time when I was really fat. J.Lo saw an old picture of me and threw up in his mouth. These days, I'm still disgusting but only mentally. Nonetheless, I could never have shed that extra weight without Lean Cuisines, the handle end of my toothbrush, and countless hours at 24 Hour Fitness.

A year ago, I was lucky enough to catch one of 24's membership deals and paid a reasonable $575 for 3 years up front. Although I was originally sweating it out at the musty building on Halstead, my new gym partner has recently been forcing me to go to the new Magic Johnson center. It's about twice as big and 1000 times better than either 24 Hour gyms in Pasadena, namely in Hastings and downtown.

The building itself is two stories. The first floor mainly consists of the indoor pool and new(er) treadmills, stationary bicycles, elliptical machines, and several televisions that are mounted up high for the easily bored. It's great because their machines aren't as worn out and don't break down as often, thus the wait is never longer than 5 minutes. On the other hand, I've occasionally caught packs of predatory voyeurs on the second floor gawking at the lady sprinters bouncing around. From my experience, unless you go to an all-female facility, such pervy gym rats will always exist.

The second floor provides a full length basketball court, a classroom, and the weight lifting machines and accessories. It's not as testerone-laden as the enclosed room at the Hastings gym, but they do have some of the usual juggernauts. My uncoordinated ass has yet to take an actual class there, but my friends who have usually have good things to say, especially of the yoga and spinning courses.

Overall, this facility is hands down the best 24 Hour Fitness in the Pasadena area. Although I did say it's probably 1000 times better than the other gyms, I still hate having to go because well...I'm lazy. But unless I want to be mistaken for Margaret Cho again, I don't have much of a choice. I might have been plump and silly, but I will never be Korean.

Thank God.

I'm a bit of a gym hopper, mostly because I move around a lot (lived in six different places in the last 6 years). Used to go to the 24 Hour Fitness on Pico in "Beverly Hills" (which is so not BH, by the way) and I absolutely HATED that place. Parking was shitty, there were probably only about 8 treadmills there and half of them are usually out-of-service, big gross meaty brahs dropping their plates all over the weight room and getting up on my shit, etc. So yeah, big aversion to 24 after that.

After moving to the Pasadena/Altadena location last July, I started shopping around for a new gym. Decided to give the Magic Johnson one a shot since it's only about a 2-minute drive away from my place and boy did I ever fall in love with it! It's MASSIVE. It's CLEAN. The bathrooms are GORGEOUS (albeit a little smelly). And it very well could be the first 24 Hour Fitness that I've encountered that actually stays open 24 hours a day (the one on Pico closed at 10-- wttttf). The weight room is huge, which I love, and there's a pool and steam room and yoga, spinning, miscellaneous group fitness classes. But the main seller for me is the parking structure. It is so so SOOO easy. I've never been to a gym where it was just that, a free-standing structure. Simply amazing.

I come here really late in the evenings, when it's super empty, so I can do my thing and not be bothered.

I went around 9:00pm on a weekday so it was not crowded which is what i like. The parking is good too with a 2 floor parking structure. I tried  the ellipitical but the machine was old and creaky. No ear plugs to listen to the lcd screens in front. Jaccuzi, pool are available here. Upstairs had a area for stretching. Opposite side is where the weights are. Not new machines but not old either. I go to my home base gym which is a lot better.

This is my main gym now. It's right by my house so it's even better for me than the Halstead 24. There's a parking structure. It's never too crowded. Even when there are a lot of people I haven't ha to wait for a machine. The yoga classes on Monday(Richard) and Tuesday(Michael) night are really good. Just be ready to suffer when you go to Michael's class. You'll know what I mean. When you experience the cycle of 10. lol

Ok. Who farted? Seriously. There's some major crop dusting going on around here. Either that or someone's sitting in the giant air ducts overhead eating chili all day.

Yet another 24 added to the list of venues I've visited, and this location, though amazing for vain people, is not the best gym in the company, especially considering that it's part of the celebrity sport locations.

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad gym. 3/5 because I'd expect a bit more from 24 in this particular family of clubs (Celebrity Sport), but other than the mistaken billing of this gym as a Magic Sport, it's great....except for the pervading odour of flatulence.

The GroupX room is raised so it gives it a certain feeling of exclusivity. I enjoy stretching in there and doing my cardio and whatnot.

Weight floor (free weights) are a total mess and the weights themselves are old and in need of replacing, or at least a serious cleaning. Nobody ever bothers to re-rack the weights properly, and I'm talking about the employees. Lazy. Sorry 24. I re-rack weights at 2am after a 12 hour shift and a 2 hour workout. You should really do more to get members and trainers involved in keeping the weight floor clean.

Machines are typical and of the same par as other newer sport facilities.

What I LOVE about this gym is that I'm an arrogant bastard and they've really catered to my egotism. Every single machine that would emphasize upper body training on a major scale is located smack in front of a mirror. Love it. It enhances my lifting by a huge margin.

(Surveys/Studies have shown that for both men and women, when there is an audience and/or mirrors around, the weight lifted increased from 5% to 15%.)

Cardio equipment is a bit dirty and worn but they have a few new stations that are fun to play with. Not entirely impressive though.

Basketball court is great (of course).

Full water which I don't ever really touch.

Locker rooms are standard. Not too well maintained and kind of dirty, but eh, it's a gym.

Many of the celebrity Sports have enhanced features that make the gym very personalized. Aside from the giant photos of Magic plastered all over the walls, there really isn't much to this place that makes one feel that they are in a celebrity Sport.

For a regular Sport level club, it's great and gets 4/5.
For a Celebrity Sport level club, it's sub par and gets 3/5.

Great gym. NASTY employees. Arrogant Meatheads. Did not go here more than twice because of attitude problems. I would rather drive further to work out in a more positive environment.

I really like this place...

I just joined about a month ago.  I'm the kinda person who needs to feel comfortable in the gym environment I'm in..and before joining 24, there was only one gym I truly liked (Bally's in NoHo).

Now I can add this 24 to the list.

It's clean and big..HUGE..enough machines that you don't have to wait in a line...heck..every time I go, there are enough machines to where you don't have to smell another human much less see another.

But someone please explain to me (and somebody's gotta know the answer, since it's not just this gym, but others as well)....

WHY IS IT THAT WHEN YOU ARE ON A MACHINE WAAAAY IN THE CORNER, AND 199 OTHER MACHINES JUST LIKE YOURS ARE EMPTY....SOMEONE COMES AND PARKS THEIR BUTTS ON THE ONE NEXT TO YOU....

WHY?????????????????

This place may be on the ghetto border of Pasadena/Altadena, but you wouldn't know that by the interior of the joint.

Parking is never a hassle, they have a HUGE parking garage. Security is also provided 24 hrs a day.

They have machines, and weights as far as the eye can see. I've never had to wait for the machines or weights. The people are cool too.

I have the hook-up and can go to all of the 24hr gyms in the world, but choose this one for having it all.  Now what we need is a full bar, and we're all set! ;-)

So I just moved back home and one of the first things my mom said to me was "You know, you look good now but you could lose some weight..."

Thanks Mom.

Thus began my search for a nearby gym to help me lose those 20lbs I gained from UCLA dorm food.

Before I go into the gym, first, here's some background. I live across the street from a YMCA. When I say across the street I mean, walk down the street, look both ways and jaywalk across Foothill and voila! I'm there. So this gym better be good for me to choose you over the convenience of the YMCA. Secondly, I went to UCLA. I don't know if you guys have ever been into UCLA's Wooden Center (our gym) but it's freaking nice. They remodeled it while I was at school there and they added a freaking HUGE weight room and rows of treadmills, elliptical machines with those TV's in the front so you forget you're running your fat ass on this machine and too busy wondering what's happening on that episode of Law and Order. So this gym better be nice in terms of equipment because, even though I hate to work out, I got high standards.

This 24 Hour Fitness gave me both. I checked it out thanks to the great reviews given by fellow Yelpers and  I can't even consider any other gym after checking this one out.

First off, it's new. Just opened a couple years ago (so the membership guy told me) and it has the best of everything. It has it's own parking lot, so I don't have to wander around looking for a spot. Downstairs, there are cardio machines - rows and rows of cardio machines. Almost as many machines as UCLA. AND they have the TVs! Glorious. Upstairs, there's a weight room with almost all the machines you can think of. And, they make it super easy to figure out what machine to use by color coding them based on what part of the body you want to work out. The locker rooms are pristinely clean, the ventilation is great in the building, and the huge windows bring in tons of natural light so you don't feel like you're working out in a dungeon.

I only have one con to this place and that it's surrounded by fast food joints and sometimes, after a nice workout, you just want to reward yourself with a Horchata from Jim's or a McFlurry from McDonalds...

First of all, don't let this review get out to everyone but this is the BEST 24 hour fitness in the area. I have been a regular to the Hermosa Beach and Sherman Oaks gyms, but this one tops them all.

-The gym is hardly ever crowded. I have never waited for any cardio machines in my time there. There are plenty of ellipticals and treadmills. There are only four step machines there, but that's alright. The first floor is all cardio with bikes and two rowers to add to the aforementioned machines. Also, there is a pool available to members.

-The second floor is all weights and the basketball court. There is plenty of space up there to do floor work too. The free weight section though is a little small and the number of machines is less than other 24 hour gyms. But nonetheless, one doesn't have to wait for much equipment.

-This gym is clean every time I go there. The bathrooms are usually in good shape and workout areas are clean and in order. The locker rooms are spacious with plenty of lockers for everyone.

-The staff there are really friendly and the atmosphere there is quite down to earth. This is not a Hollywood gym nor is it a gym for serious athletes. Most of the people here are regular people. No actors like Sherman Oaks, or pretty rich beach people like Hermosa. Of course, it's a gym, so you get your share of muscleheaded tools or guys who are Ultimate Fighting wannabe's. It is the ideal surburban gym for families, working adults and people who just don't want a scene.

-Last, parking is free. No tickets, no validations, nothing like that. and there's security.

This place is friggin nice.

For the fat guy, they got tons of ellipticals and treadmills, and for the buff guy, they got all your standard weight machines. The pool looks refreshing too, but every time I go, there's been a group of people dipping their business in it. What I'm REALLY loving is their basketball gym. Not only is it full court and indoors, it's also a great place to up your game. The competition is fierce -- last week, I got outballed by GIRLS. I swear they were from the WNBA or something. Kind of a humbling experience... Well, time to get back on the treadmill!

Tips: Keep it clean: bring a towel and wipe off your sweat! Bonus star for large parking structure.

This is a class "A" facility.  Very clean, roomy, and organized.  My 24 hour fitness in Santa Fe Springs has got nothing on this gym.

Pros:
- plenty of cardio machines
- lots of space in free weights section
- machines are in working condition and organized
- locker room is spotless
- very high ceilings and great ventilation
- parking structure

Cons:
- I live too far to make it my daily gym

I am a self proclaimed gym rat and how I wish we had this particular gym closer to where I reside.  My favorite part is they have this extra space upstairs to either stretch or do unconventional exercises i.e. plyometric.

If you live close by, this is a no brainer.  Come here!  Magic should be proud ....

I was so glad when this 24 hour fitness opened. I used to go to the one on Halstead and this one is sooooo much better. There are plenty of cardio machines downstairs plus a two lane lap pool. Upstairs there's the basketball gym plus the room for classes and plenty of floor space.

They keep this place nice and clean. The staff is friendly but not pushy and they are happy to lend a hand or to let you do your own thing.

My only complaint is that the variety and times of classes is still pretty limited. I hope that in time, they'll expand their options some.

This is the best 24 hour fitness I've been to!  I'm sure that there are more gems out there but so far this is the only one I've come across.  Built like an LA fitness--it's got high ceilings, is ABOVE ground, and there isn't any condensation from the air conditioning pipes that drip on you while you're on the elliptical (see Anh T.'s review of the East Pasadena 24 hour).

The sheer number of cardio machines guarantees that there will be little to no waiting at any given time in the day.  Once, I was on the row of treadmills, which sits behind the ellipticals, and I counted how many elliptical machines there were.  FORTYFIVE.  That is frigging amazing if you ask me.  And that's not including the treadmills or stair machines.

The large above-ground building, several flat panel TVs,  brand new machines, and super-blast air conditioning all contribute to a better and more effective workout, at least for me.  Suddenly being at the gym is not so bad!

There's also a devoted FREE parking lot (I can't believe certain 24-hour gyms have no free parking lots) that always has a security guard or two.

At my 600 or so pre-paid membership fee (for 3 years), I accepted the crapola economy gyms with a "you get what you pay for" mentality.  But with this new Magic Johnson supergym, I'm getting LA fitness+ quality for a 24 hour fitness price!

Work out with the inspiration of Magic Johnson surrounding you...feel the positive energy and nostalgia of the best point guard ever!  My first time coming here was opening day when Magic came to sign autographs.  Ever since, it's been nothing but great.

Facility full of plenty of cardio machines accompanied by giant flat screen TVs.  Clean and well maintained full indoor basketball courts.  (Be prepared to get alley-ooped and dunked on.)  Spacious weight-lifting area and stretching area with a large variety of machines and free weights.  Parking structure with security guard at hand.

Brought to you by the one and only Magic.  What more do you want?

This is a Magic Johnson Sport location.

It's clean and it has newer equipment.

It has two stories, with the weights being on the second floor.

Because the floors are large, the machines are spread out, and there are large windows, it provides an open feeling, unlike some locations that feel like dungeons.

The male locker room is large and clean.

It's open 24 hours.

Brand spankin new

There are only two 24 hour fitness locations in ALL of SGV and Glendale that have step aerobics and the Altadena gym is the only place with a step class late enough for my work schedule.  This location actually offers the most cardio classes in ALL of SGV and Glendale.  I want to take away a star because the class room was like a sauna with no air, if they don't fix that, I'll update then

5 stars for space, design, ample parking, and the greatest variety of class X scheduled in SGV and Glendale

This is a great 24 Hour Fitness.  I'm with the other reviewer, I can't go to the Super ones; I got denied at the Glendale Super Sport b/c I only have 'ALL SPORT' access. WTF?  Oh well.  The things the Glendale one has that the Altadena doesn't - I will never ever use.  Squash and racquetball courts?  Pilates machines?  No thanks.

Anyways, back to the Altadena location.  Very new, very clean, LOTS of machines (they even have 3 of those cablecross machines which have the moveable/repositionable arm things).  There's like 30 of each major cardio machine: treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, regular bikes, and stair stepper things & rowing machines (ok only like 5 of those.) They even have 5-6 of some weird machine that looks suspiciously like the Tony Little "gazelle."  I NEVER waited for any machine here.

Also - Lots of floor space for stretching.  Lots of mats, exercise bands, free weights, balls, etc.  Everything you could possibly need.

My only complaints?  There are always trainers there using lots of the machines I like to use, so ok, I have had to wait for a cable cross 1-2 times.   And I wish there was a bathroom on the 2nd floor.  Finally, not a lot of classes; I guess there's not that much interest there.  I'd like to see a yoga or pilates class on the sched.

They have a pool and a basketball court. Nice locker rooms - big lockers.  Well lit mirrors.  Big free parking garage adjacent.  Never crowded.  It is a nice gym!

I can't compare this to the other locations, since this is the only one I've ever been to (other than a very brief stop in the phenomenally overcrowded Sherman Oaks Galleria branch), but I love this place.

It has lots of treadmills and ellipticals (I've never had to wait when I go, usually between 7-8 p.m.), and tons of TVs (although for some reason the other day, three TVs were tuned to Wheel of Fortune and two to The Insider--I thought I was going to die from a sharp, sudden drop in IQ).

There is even has a little pool.  I want to try it some time, but there are only two swim lanes.

The men's locker room is clean and well kept, and there are plenty of lockers (bring your own lock for a free locker, or some change for coin-op rental lockers).  I did not go into the women's locker room, since I still haven't perfected my powers of invisibility.

This gym is really convenient to get to from NELA , Glendale and Pasadena areas. Just up the 210 from the 134 a few blocks up from the Licoln exit. It's associated with Magic Johnson in some way, but not sure how that makes the place different from others. It's got a lot of cardio machines, but I only really use the rowers. Lots of muscle machines upstairs. The machines are all new and they have a great stretching machine/area and also a big free weight area. They are trying to add more classes, but the Yoga classes aren't at very convenient times. What up with that? They play good music, free and convenient parking, nice locker rooms. The sauna and steam room areas are co-ed, which is yuk, but other than that, I'm pleased with it. Don't forget to bring a towel.

If you are one like me, who is tired of sitting around the house all day and you feel as though you are always lacking energy for some reason, you may be seriously lacking a routine exercise plan.  You may also just be eating wrong.

Well this is where 24 hour fitness, bought by Magic Johnson, will truly come in handy.  This center comes fully equiped with Almost every kind of work out equipment imaginable and you can set it to match any workout pace.  You get your Pool where you can swim laps until your hearts content, a jacuzzi where you can rest up after an intense workout, there is a giant room filled with several basketball courts where you can get your game on, there are also a large variety of group classes where you can exercise in a group and not feel left out, even a kids club where you can drop off your kids while you workout on the treadmill or the stair stepper.

In all this place comes with pretty much everything you can ask for, except a rock wall!  But it would be too crowded anyways.  In a few months or so, this place will be surrounded by places to eat like, McDonalds, Subway, Panda Express, and Jims Burgers.  But try and stay away from the fatty foods, I mean common, you just burnt it all off.

Also keep in mind The Group X club that you can join.  They give you a free 10 day trial membership pass for up to 4 friends to go along with you.  You also recieve health tips and nutritious recipes online regularly to keep in shape.

If you are looking for a time when the place isnt too crowded, dont go there around 5-8pm, because that is when everyone gets off work and school, and you know how it is.  Try going at 2 in the morning, I guarantee the place will be empty or your money back!  Well, not really, but you have to join first before you can enjoy all the extreme workouts, or you can freeload off them with the 10 day trial membership.

I can go to all the 24 hour fitness facilities (ok except the super sport. grrrr.) and this one is the best so far.  the people working out at this one are more down to earth and have some realistic goals: they can work out hard but the ladies aren't walking around with their g-strings sticking out of their super tight pants... so if you're going to the gym for that reason, pick the glendale one or something.

steve's super street class is the best!!!  he does it tuesday nights at this gym.  i can do that and then run and then lift and it's not so hot at this place that i have to take another shirt  with me to go home in after i peel the other one off.

It's a new gym, so the equipment and machines are--as expected--new and clean.  There are plenty of machines and lots of space to spread out.

However, considering how new the machines are, I'm surprised at the number of treadmills that are broken.  The treadmill I used tonight wasn't labeled as "out of operation" but it should have been.  It kept on slowing down to a walk.  As a result of the broken treadmills a few people had to wait around.

The place wasn't incredibly busy, even at 6-7 pm.  Word probably hasn't quite spread about this newer, bigger gym.  There's plenty of (free!) parking, and the other gym goers seem to be a down-to-earth lot.  Not a lot of people posing and flirting by the machines.

Best workout times are in the AM due to crowds, however, clean, ample parking.  Good staffing.
