This restaurant has come along way from the first time I dined. The service was not very good and the food was mediocre at best. Things have finally turned for this corner restaurant on Michigan Ave. I can honestly say the last few times dinning were very enjoyable. The waitstaff has taken leaps forward from the unexceptional service that was being put out.

The food has visually become more inventive and presentation has consistently grown. The dishes that I have tried has shown Chef Christian Borden culinary expertise without being too stylish with quality items. Everything has been executed very well and I can't remember ever being too disappointed. The one dish that I have continually enjoyed and I feel crazy for saying this is the Veal Meatloaf. I had this by chance because I was offered it from a dinning companion and now I can't get enough.

The interior has not been one of my favorite components of the restaurant. The ambiance has a very masculine feel with black leather seats and a very elongated wood top bar. The place has perception of feeling busy (doesn't flow right) although the restaurant being open to the outside makes things come together.

The prices have been really competitive with other restaurants. I have found some things being extremely overpriced. The wine selection by the glass is regrettably a little high for the selections. The wine by the bottle has some reasonable deals and all seems within anyones budget. The beer on draft and bottle is within means but again some things not correctly priced. I found a Corona (I don't drink this beer just an observation) for seven dollars and that is just unacceptable. I know restaurants have overhead and ambiance but sometimes common sense comes into the equation.

I would now recommend this restaurant to those that like a hip, trendy and comfortable atmosphere without being to posh. This place is fantastic to go for dinner and if things continue in the direction there heading then watch out!

Fine dining usually isn't my kind of thing. While I love love love good food, and have no problem paying a pretty penny for it, I usually feel uncomfortable at a fancy restaurant and find the patrons and service snobby and judgmental.

Not 24 Grill. While still maintaining a posh ambiance and an air of class, I didn't find this restaurant to be stuck up in the slightest. The server, Rodger, was attentive, polite and laid back, as were his food runners and the hostess.

    Now on to the food.

I visited with my brother and 2 friends. We had the duck confit and pork belly appetizers, I had the duck entree, my brother the leg of lamb, and the other 2 ordered the filet. I tried it all, and each dish was cooked perfectly. I have never in my life tasted meat so tender, especially the filet. It was the consistency of cheese. The waiter equipped each of us with steak knives, which was totally unnecessary. You could eat it with a spoon.

2.5 hours later, I was as satisfied as a customer could possibly be. Everything I ate was full of flavor, expertly crafted and beautifully presented. Hats off to this establishment. The next time I'm in Detroit with some money burning a hole in my pocket and an empty stomach, you know where to find me.

5 stars? Really? Hm..I hope we didn't come on an off night, but it sure wasn't 5-star worthy.

Let me break it down simply:

    Appetizers:

    - Calamari ($12) - There was an asterisk next to it, so that meant it was cooked to order. We were excited. Well, when the dish arrived, not only did it not look cooked to order, but it was cold, chewy and not tender, breading was too thick that it was all that I could taste, and it looked like it was either a leftover order. Add that it was very salty, so this was not good.

    - Fava Bean & Sushi ($12) - Weird presentation, and the puffy polenta that the tuna sashimi was sitting on? Had a weird texture that wasn't quite dense enough to be polenta but then it tasted like a rice cake? We were perplexed. Served on a rectangular small plate, it looked messy and there wasn't much flavor.

Overall grade for apps = D. Not just for the taste, presentation, but for the price.

    Entrees:

    - Burger and Bucket ($21) - Good! Probably the only good thing we ate that night. The bun was soft and fluffy and not too thin or thick. Just right, and we think it is made in house. The ground prime was well-seasoned without being too salty and peppery, and the 24 sauce was nicely balanced in quantity with the tomato, pickles, lettuce, bacon and Swiss cheese. The bucket of chips were thinly sliced and fried lightly with no hint of heavy oil! The freshness in the potatoes was a refreshing touch to the thicker substance of the burger.

    - White Marble Pan-Roasted Pork Tenderloin ($28) - We liked how some of the pork was cooked, but unfortunately, there were only 3 small pieces scattered along a square plate. I would guess that there wasn't even 4 oz. of meat on the entire plate! The onion strings were a nice touch with the brussel sprouts, but overall, the presentation was off, and the pork could have been cooked more consistently throughout.

Overall grade for entrees = B-. Burger was worth the price and quality and flavors were spot on. Pork, unfortunately, was way overpriced given the amount and the execution was spotty.

As a side, we had ordered the brussel sprouts with hazelnuts ($6). Nice combination, but too oily.

Final bill = $113 after tax and tip and 2 bottles of Voss. For that price, we not only expected good tasting food, but also consistent, food presentation, and service.

The only thing that was worth eating was the burger, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come down here next time to get it. Maybe to go at best. Sorry 24 Grille, we probably won't be coming back anytime soon.

Crispy Indiana Duck Confit:  Petite garden greens, agave nectar, roasted figs. I didn't see any roasted figs on my plate and the duck confit didn't seem to come with any kind of sauce, so it made the plate a little dry and boring. Probably my least favorite dish on the entire menu.

Michigan Corn Crepes and Wild Mushroom:  This wasn't my favorite dish, but the combination of the thin pancake with the seared mushrooms and asparagus was great.

Local Purple Beet Salad:  Very delicious. Full of flavor and the beets were perfectly seasoned. ORDER IT.

Baked Meatloaf:  Wow. The best meatloaf I've ever had in my entire life. It literally melts in yoru mouth. Very interestingly flavored. ORDER IT.

Truffled Mac n Cheese (side):  Amazing. Enough said. ORDER IT.

Smoked Sea Salt Pommes Frites (side):  The fries themselves weren't all that amazing, and it did lack the smokey taste, but the sauce it comes with...it's the most amazing sauce ever created on the face of this earth. The sauce is why I gave this restaurant 5 stars. It's a brown, gravy like sauce that has the perfect amount of saltiness.

Broccolini with garlic chips and chiles (side):  Seasoned perfectly with the right amount of crispiness.

Roasted Brussel Sprouts witih Hazelnuts:  One of my favorite dishes of the night. Perfectly roasted and the hazelnuts add a great kick. It's a pretty hefty portion.

Desserts:  I tried their pana cotta which was amazing...it had a very distinct taste (which ironically I can't remember), and the chocolate lava cake was just okay.

My husband had the burger.. very good.. I had the red snapper... fair, a bit rubbery, but ok.. What I was amazed at was an 18% tip was added to our bill automatically. I have seen this done with parties of 6 or more, but NEVER with 2 people! Very tacky! And if you didn't notice that your tip was included, there was a space for you to add the tip.. tackier! On the way out, I ask if I could see the manager to ask why they do that and no one could find her! I really don't have a need to go back. There are way too many good restaurants in the area to bother.

    Well where do I start?

This place has--since it opened--been one of my favorite bars in Detroit, from a decor/design perspective. I think it is cosmopolitan and sexy, while being interesting and functional. It has a great steel-meets-satin kind of feel to it that is very Detroit. As far as the food & the service--it is a good spot that could be great, i.e. could use some work. The place feels like it is trying to be something it isn't, like it is still trying to figure out who it is.  It is very much (physically) an upscale bar/high-end tavern, but seems to be trying to be a fine dining restaurant, which is silly (no bar menu? really? in place that is almost all bar?)

Food. For the most part, the dishes are individually quite good, although there is some inconsistency with the preparation. What is weird is how the menu doesn't feel cohesive & doesn't "flow"--the dishes seem largely unrelated to each other & it can be hard to put together a meal that feels natural, app to salad to main to dessert. Aside from disjointedness, and the fact that the chef is trying a bit too hard with the dishes, making them feel a little late 90s fancy-fu-fu, the food is good. Particularly good are the chips & warm cheese dip, the filet & zip sauce, and the pizza.

Service. How you are served at 24 Grille is a really mixed bag. You have some great staff who are on it, friendly and attentive. Then there are others who seem irritated that you're there. Then there are some who really have no clue at all. What is odd is the ever changing faces--this isn't a good sign, at least to me. If a place can't keep its servers, it makes me nervous. What is weird --like the disjointed menu--is the constant clustering of staff & managers (of whom there seem to be many) in the bar area in front of the pass from the kitchen. Talking, joking, whatever--always lots of manager-ish looking people & staff there, when they really should be serving their patrons.

All in all a good spot, but one that could be soooo much more. Here's to hoping! Let's hope the Westin Book Cadillac pushes them in the right direction--and gets them up to Roast's par. On a side note the front door team at the hotel are great, always taking care of me and my car with a smile & professionalism.

Found this restaurant on http://OpenTable.com. I am so glad we went here. The food, the wine, the service was stellar! I ordered the Beef and Bleu. Yum! Our waitress was attentive, social, and sent the manager over to talk with us about our wine selection. Try the Joffre Malbec! Best evening in a long time.

The only thing I would not recommend was the corn crepes with wild mushroom. Pass on that and enjoy the rest!

This may be he best restaurant week experience yet. The menu was much larger than any other restaurant week menu and all 3 of my courses and my wife's 3 courses were amazing.

The atmosphere is really modern and sophisticated. Seems like a perfect place for a date or a night out with friends.

Service was quick and friendly. And the location inside the Westin Book is great. I may not even wait until the next restaurant week to return.

I very much enjoy 24grille for a variety of reasons.

First, the food itself. I can't say I've had anything there that I've not thoroughly enjoyed - and I can be very tough to please, especially when it comes to restaurants of which I have high expectations. The only mediocre experience I've had there (and even then, it was still above and beyond most) was the most recent time I went, after Carmina Burana at the opera. (Originally we went to Coach Insignia, but left after we saw our waiter once in the space of about an hour.) I was wavering as to what to get, and the waiter suggested the hamburger, saying it very well may be the best in town. Of course - what restaurant doesn't say that. The thought of a good hamburger really intrigued me, though, so I went with it. Turns out it was fairly average. Still very good, no doubt, but nothing I would go out of my way to get again.

Second, the service is and, in my experience, has always been, excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff, helpful hostesses, etc.

Third, the atmosphere. Though a bit contrived in its effort to approximate something to the effect of a more modern gentleman's club (by which I mean e.g. the DAC, rather than a topless bar), it is still pleasant.

Essentially, you get the impression that 24grille is a good restaurant in its own right, rather than a downmarket alternative to Roast.

We dined here last night as part of restaurant week.  We LOVED the atmosphere.   Everything had great flavor.

Now I've never been here at any other time to know what it's like when they're not completely booked with reservations, but we were sort of rushed through dinner.  A bread basket was brought to us just as we were finishing our appetizer.  We had a couple pieces (with several still remaining in the basket) when all of sudden someone walked by and grabbed it.  When our entree was presented we were offered more bread but no one ever came by with it.  Our server stopped by just as we were finishing our last bites to ask how everything was and then brought us our bill as our dessert was delivered.  We were in and out with a three-course meal plus drinks in under an hour.

We will definitely return under less busy times and I will increase my rating if we're not hurried.

WOW am I sorry that I only had one meal here!!  I stayed at the Westin and only discovered this restaurant on my last day.

The salmon sandwish was absolutely phenomenal.  I saved the picture on my phone so I could look at it and drool whenever I felt nostalgic.

I also tried the mac and cheese and it was really good.  But damn if that sandwich wasn't one of the best I've had in my life.

If you're in Detroit, be sure to stop in for a meal here.  Not sure if dinner options are similar, but based on the service and quality of food during the lunch rush, I would be confident in saying you'll be satisfied no matter what you order.

For Detroit Restaurant Week 24 Grille knocked it out of the park, and I'm just talking about the dessert. Of which we had each of our own and then ordered one more to split. They were THAT good.

The first course was fantastic. I opted for the fried artichokes which came with a mighty spicy (for my sensitive tongue) aioli. Also sampled the alligator gumbo which was also tasty but much smaller in serving sized compared to my huge serving of artichokes. Main course was the spring run fluke, a flaky and delicious whitefish served over herb spatzel with lemon butter sauce. Fantastic!

Dessert? Oh. Oh my. This? This was where I fell straight from like into love with 24 Grille. Panna Cotta? Amazing. Caramel with a hint of orange and honey, with a creamy cool cream custard. YUM. A tasty chocolate cake with some hazelnut cream? DOUBLE YUM. So much yum that we got the Snickers dessert to give it a shot as well...oh dear. Chocolatey mousse, peanut mousse, caramel. Oh so tasty. My tummy was a very happy camper then.

Add the cocktails! So good I had to have two just to try a few of them. And they certainly knocked me on my booty.

It was a Friday night and the place was hoppin', the space is modern and dark but also bright. Meaning, the walls are painted dark but there's plenty of light, fancy, bright fixtures, that sort of thing. The waitstaff was fantastic--very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Great recommendations from everyone we encountered, from drinks to eats. Can't wait for my next visit and I'll be sure to save room for two desserts again!

Mmmmm restaurant week, how you make my cheap little heart happy. I picked this because Liz R liked it so much and well, we do tend to agree. She was on the money, this place rocks! This place has a selection that rivals a regular menu for DRW, trust me you will find something you like on it for yourself.

Deciding was the tough part, especially the appetizer course. Ultimately for my app I went with the kurobuta pork belly, throwing any artery concerns to the wind. It was stellar as far as picks go. Fatty and rich as expected but sweet and salty, the meat carmelized to utter perfection and the mango adding a perfect foil. If the road to hell is through this dish I would still gladly follow it. If you do order this I would recommend the mango champagne cocktail I paired it with, spendy but absolute perfection.

James had the jonah and blue crab cake, a fine rendition at that not so much bready as merely delicately held together delicious crab morsels. Super fresh. I liked the bite I had but could not focus as much after that belly, I will be honest. It was all about belly for me. There were several apps I think would have made me happy-ish but none other offered the wow that was my experience.

For my main I took a complete U turn and ordered the fluke. Gentle and delicate, with the lemon butter and spatzle. No Blais misstep here, this herbed spatzle was tender and happy, I am a fan. The fish was wonderful. It was not as in your face as the belly but really delicious at any rate. A fine example of yin and yang, the fish was needed after that rich app. It balanced the experience. James went with the Angus beef rib. Yum. It was rich and zippy with a bit of horseradish. The meat was perfectly tender and had good depth of flavor. I was a little jealous but eased my mind with the fact it would not have been a great pick after pork belly, too much to handle.

The dessert was an easy pick for James. His Snickers mousse was a delightful chocolate mousse with peanuts and caramel. Rich and evil. he loved every bite of course. I went with the panna cotta as I was not feeling chocolate-y myself. It was sweet, creamy and very nicely done. It had very nice texture. Burnt orange caramel and honey, need I say more, mmmm. Perfect end for me.

In hindsight I went from nirvana to sweet gentle recovery with my picks. The highpoint of my experience was in the beginning, whereas James built up to his highpoint. Both worked for us, but I will be honest, if you order the pork belly do so knowing the rest of the meal will not live up to it. That being said I would not hesitate to do it again. On the other side of things James thought my pork was fatty and wretched so if you do not enjoy that type of rich, avoid it altogether.

Service here was top notch, attentive with everything, friendly but not over the top in any way. Even the bread was great according to James. Atmosphere here is very pleasant and relaxing, chic but not intimidating. Overall I would have to say I can't wait to return.

The food is good, I will give them that.

When I first moved to our downtown office, we received some promotional info to this restaurant. I went on a couple different lunches and one dinner here.

I hope that they have changed since then, but I had multiple lunch experiences that were horrific. The wait times were LONG (1+ hour for lunch) and they were grossly understaffed. The bartender was flustered, the servers were frustrated, and they actually stopped taking carry out orders because they were so overwhelmed.

I had the kobe beef sliders which are great, along with the fries, grilled cheese, and I remember the carrots being very good.

I'm excited to get back downtown and try this place out again. Hopefully they will be properly staffed and able to handle a lunch rush quickly and efficiently.

I'm a bit stingy with my 5 stars and seem to have been generous with them in Chicago, so I was ecstatic to have a true 5-star meal and experience at 24 Grille right here in the great city of Detroit!

My husband and I had a fixed 3 course meal menu to choose from as part of the "Make It A Night" package with Spa 19 and Westin Book Cadillac, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying everything else on the menu!

I started with the Cochinita Tacos, which despite the fact that this is not a Mexican restaurant, were some of the best tacos I've had in this area. Word of caution - these are on the spicy side, but it's so worth it!

Next up was the Tortellachi Bourguignon. So rich and flavorful, fully of amazing tastes and textures. Yum. Wrapped up with some of the homemade sorbets, which again, did not disappoint.

In addition to great food and friendly service (and, may I say, a pretty talented bar tender), the atmosphere is truly fantastic. This is a truly urban dining experience, with the lighting, music, seating - all JUST right. I'm in love with 24 Grille!

We we're looking so forward to our finale at 24 Grille for the DRW. Looking at the menu everyone found something they really wanted to have.

First up were the apps. with the alligator gumbo, crab cakes and pork belly being ordered. The gumbo was ok with a nice flavor. Next was crab cakes, meh, i swear I've had better cakes from Costco's freezer section with more crab in them.
Now, onto the Kurobato Pork Belly the highlight to the night. I will quote from one of the females in our group "I think I just orgasmed from this pork belly."  It was damn good I'll give it that, best thing we had tonight.

For entrees we ordered the beef rib and the pork tenderloin.
The beef rib(short rib) was disappointing to be nice. I've made much better in my slow cooker at home.
The tenderloin was tough and if not for the sauce it would have been a total loss.

For dessert we all had the poached pears in red wine, these were pretty good.

Overall if I had to come here again it would only be if someone else was buying.

The salmon was cooked perfectly and the dressing was just right... and you can't beat the happy hour $5 wine and $4 beer. I don't typically give 5 stars but, 24grille deserves it. :-)

This place is a hit.  Excuse me.  I got a bit confused.  What I meant to say is: this place is a hit-or-miss.

I work downtown, so I've had my fair share of encounters with 24 Grille.  At times, the food has been tasty, or at least perfectly acceptable for what the place is going for.  And the service has been good and attentive.  And the drinks have been mixed well and delivered timely.

At other times (mostly lunchtimes), the food has been horrible.  Sloppily prepared.  Missing components.  The service has been terrible ("the white bean soup?  Are you sure that's not what I gave you?").  The wait to receive food has been looooong.  Milking the cow and churning the butter long.  Catching the fish and piloting the schooner back to port long.  Planting the orchard and picking the fruit long.  At lunch.  Oh, I should be more specific-- during my lunch *hour*.

So maybe I'd give this place 4-stars for dinner or after-work drinks, but it would be stretching to give it 2-stars for lunch.  This is how, erring on the side of generosity, we end up where we now find ourselves.  At 3-stars and teetering.

This restaurant was everything that Wolfgang Puck's should have been...

Hubby and I went here for Valentine's dinner. I'm 9 months pregnant, and have found that I am more sensitive to tastes, and 24 Grille passed my expectations. It was so great!

The ambience is really nice, as was the service. The wine list looked impressive, but I'll have to wait for my next visit before I can indulge. Most impoartantly, the food was fantastic. The crab cake was delicious (as was the complimentary parmasean bread). I ordered the pork tenderloin- great flavor, and a nice portion. Hubby ordered the Kona Steak- so good. Tender, juicy, and it had a delicious coffee and peppercorn crust. We split an order of the truffle mac and cheese. Amazingly rich. For dessert we split the Grand Marnier Creme Brulee. Needless to say, it was gone in about 3 seconds. :)

We can't wait to return and try some other things on the menu! Definitely a hit!

While the food was great but service left a really bad taste in the mouth.  I had the poached pear salad & the mac-n-cheese.  Great combo I know but I wasn't all that hungry & I really wanted to try the mac-n-cheese after a couple friends told me it was to die for.  It was good, rich& plentiful. The salad was light & had just the right amount of dressing.  They were out of pomegranates so I was suppose to get dried currants but I don't remember seeing them in the dish. The prices for the food are reasonable for a downtown restaurant however the wine/beer prices are outrageous.

Now for the bad part.  The waiter Roger.  He was horrible & honestly the management should fire him. He never once greeted us & he had a snobbish almost boring attitude like he had somewhere better to be. When we inquired about the Bloody Mary (i.e. how spicy, what type of veggies were in it) he said said "yeah...I don't know.  Not, "let me ask the bartender" or "I don't know but I can find out for you". My friend had to ask him to bring a lime for her Corona three times.  Who brings a Corona without a lime? He didn't even apologize.  Instead he just brought it to the table & quickly walked away.  I informed Roger at 5:00 that we needed to get our bill because we had a show to get to.  We didn't need to leave until 5:30 but based on his performance so far I was being cautious. There were 5 people in our party & we asked for our bills to be broken out into 3 separate checks.  We even told him this prior to ordering our drinks.  The bills were so screwed up so we sent them back to be corrected.  He brought a different set of bills 10 minutes later.  They were incorrect again so we sent them back to be corrected.  We got the third bill at 5:40.  We didn't have time to check the bills this time since we were now running late for the show.  He slapped the bills on the table & left without as much as a have a great night or thank you. In addition, there was a 18% gratuity automatically added in to the check. For a party of 5?  No wonder he was lazy.  He already had his tip in the bag. The only "tip" I would have given Roger is, if you act snobby then you better have the skills to back it up.  Clearly he did not.

We will not be back to 24 Grille strictly because of the service.  It is a shame really because the food was good.

I went here for lunch before going to the Kid Rock Concert in August at Comerica Park. We started with the calamari and it was fabulous!  The Shrimp Salad was so yummy I must go back again soon for it. The shrimp were large prawns and were cooked perfectly and the salad also had delicious cornbread croutons. Service and atmosphere was great. I want to definately go back here for dinner.  Enjoy!

Its in the W so you know its going to be at least 3 stars. The W has quality standards. That being said, you pay for those standards.

Tues night is half off wine bottles - sa-weet! So the wine was flowin - and the apps and entrees were quite satisfying.

The mac & cheese was my favorite part. Very cheesy in flavor, nice crust - perfect.

I also really enjoyed the tuna sushi appetizer. Five pieces of tuna tataki with rice, wasabi and sauces. Like a deconstructed roll.

I would return and I'd consider it one of the better places I've tried in d-town motor city.

Very good cocktails, excellent service, fun/hip ambience.

This was my first time in, and I only stayed for a few cocktails. Had the cucumber gimlet which was made with cucumber wheels and Rose's sweetened lime juice (a gimlet is the only drink in which cocktail snobs accept, in fact demand, Rose's lime juice as opposed to fresh squeezed lime). It was fantastic, a really great drink (though I would have preferred a short spear instead of the wheels, as the protruding cucumber is more fragrant).

Also ordered an Old Fashioned, and though the server said he knew how to make one (which is a plus), AND though the drink tasted pretty good, he shook the ingredients in a shaker, which isn't how you make an Old Fashioned... it would be like if someone put your vodka martini ingredients into a blender, the flavors would all be there but it's not quite what you had in mind...

The bar top itself is ginormous, and zig-zags in a jigsaw like fashion, giving lots of differently shaped nooks along the way, which makes it perfect for groups of 4, 3, 2, or even 1 to find a little cove of bar to claim as one's own.

A great bar. Super service. Nice lighting. I'm looking forward to the next visit, for the cocktails especially, but also to try out the food too (I noticed while spying on the crowd that 24 Grille has captured Atlas Global Bistro's previous head chef, and he's genius... so the food I expect will be stellar here).

My last leg on the DRW train.  I left Ken at home watching college football so my Mom and I could try out 24 Grille prior to kicking off our Fisher Theater season (West Side Story).  There was much buzz from management while we were there - it seems they have just enticed the head chef from Atlas over to 24 Grille!!  I knew something was up when the DRW menu changed in the middle of the week - the new menu was larger and much (much) more exciting.  I'd not been to 24 Grille prior to the change, but based on our experience, I'd say 'change is good'!

24 Grille is located in the same hotel (Westin) as Roast.  Valet at the hotel's entrance and get your slip stamped so it will only cost $5 plus tip.  Restaurant is a combination of elegant tables and a nice hotel bar.  All staff we came in contact with was friendly and knowledgeable.

We both started with glasses of their house red, Cab for Mom and Merlot for me.  $6 each, and both were good.  (No 'heavy' drinking with the Momma so I cannot give a rating on my martini-meter... darn)

Bread good.  Warm white bread with asiago-type cheese crust and seed-crusted crackers, with butter.

Apps were crabcake (4.5) and beef tenderloin tips (4.5).  I've just returned from Baltimore, where I swear I ate crab twice a day, every day, and Mom's crabcake ranked pretty high.  Nice red pepper sauce underneath.  I'm a sucker for hollandaise sauce, and that's what came on top of the tips... sold!

Entrees were petite fillet (5) and Dynamite Prawns (5).  I made sure to include 'petite' in the description of Mom's steak because it was NOT.  Very generous cut, wrapped in well-cooked bacon, perfectly medium rare.  Zip sauce, sauteed rapini and portabello frites completed steak dish - Mom raved and tried to eat slowly.  The shrimp dish was pretty complex - 3 very large prawns with almost a cajun flavor, once again perfectly cooked (c-shaped, not o-shaped), with at least 6 good-sized scampi ravioli, a small amount of butter/oil to keep the dish wet, pea shoots and grape tomato halves.  The ravioli were better than I expected, containing bits of chopped shrimp.

We both finished with the Baked Honeycrisp Apple (4.5).  I knew I was getting this before we even went, and I couldn't gently persuade my Mom to get something else.  It was a very fancy apple dumpling, with a just-tart-enough apple, cored, filled with chopped nuts, wrapped in puff pastry, drizzled with caramel sauce and served with housemade vanilla bean ice cream in an edible chocolate cup.

After eating at Atlas earlier in the week, I was tempted to cancel this reservation and take my Mom to Atlas instead.  But I'm glad I didn't.

24 Grille is completely attainable, two-steps above average, smart and hip food.

I went for Detroit Restaurant week, and my evening started off oh-so-right when I had far more options on the menu then were listed on the on-line menu. Give me more food to choose from and I already love you.

I had a simple spa salad for starters, which was done tastefully and was very fresh and light - just the right thing to start with when you are about to eat tenderloin wrapped in bacon next. Wowwy zowwy - tenderloin wrapped in bacon topped with tempura portobello mushrooms. And all meat is natural and brought in from an all-natural farm in Arkansas (I don't eat meat if I don't know where it came from, which is something I love about 24 Grille- they do a great job of saying where their ingredients come from, and much if it is local fare!) I shed the bacon, but the meat was cooked perfectly and the tempura mushrooms...they don't really need a qualifier do they? Very good.

To end, I had an amazing orange lady finger creme cake - very light despite its dense creaminess, very french, very delicious. My sister had a baked Michigan honeycrisp apple that I coveted from across the table.

My only complaint would be they seat you at high bar tables for an entire meal - not sure if this was because it was particulary busy or if it is always like that. Something about your legs dangling off a stool just doesn't translate into fine-dining to me for some reason.

24 Grille gives you  you the opportunity to feel very metropolitan for the evening while out in Detroit.  Great cocktails, good wine pairings, and a good time.

Went here for dinner after work with my co-workers and sat on the patio. We started off with a few drinks and some great appetizers (The brussel sprouts were amazing). Our meals came after and were equally enjoyable.

The presentation of the dishes was amazing and perfectly paired. I was comfortably full and very pleased with the service, food, and atmosphere.

I would highly recommend going to 24 Grille and sitting on the patio when the weather is right!

My wife and I ate here last night before heading to the Fox theater.  For the two of us, with appetizers, salads, entrees and two glasses of really good wine - it was around $150.  Is it worth it? You bet.  I had the Filet, while she had the tuna - both were top notch.  Extensive wine list, average beer list.  Broad range of food choices and excellent service.

Its located in the Westin Book Cadillac, so parking is easy (via the valet).
While we ate at 6p, the place was pretty busy, but I imagine as the night went on it got even more filled up.  Reservations are recommended!

My wife and I had a quiet meal here thanksgiving weekend. We loved the ambience. Every dish was a home run.  It's also walking distance from Campus Martius. The whole experience was positive and made us feel the vibrance of Downtown Detroit. Definitely worth a look if you want to get away from the 'Burbs.

What an amazing place. I booked reservations here for a Monday night to celebrate a quiet 30th birthday dinner for my boyfriend.

We were seated immediately in a quiet corner of the restaurant, our waitress was great, and the food was spectacular. I also have to say that their drink menu was extraordinary -- apparently they have a great cocktail crew. I ordered the Raspeberry Mousse Cake cocktail and was in heaven for the 10 minutes it took me to drink it (I'm a lush).

We ordered the crab cake appetizer, which was all crab with a nice wasabi dressing, split a frisee salad, and both ordered the kona crusted strip steak. The meal was mouth watering from beginning to end. We also split a bottle of wine. They were actually out of two of the wines that we wanted to try, so we went with the Joel Gott cabernet which was still a great choice.

On top of the spectacular dining experience, Ben Stiller happened to be there with his film crew. Apparently 24 Grille really is the new celeb hangout, as another yelper mentioned.

I didn't think the menu was that pricey -- a steak for $30 and bottles of wine for $30ish. Our bill was about $200 with tip, which was less than I expected, so I can't complain. I guess my only complaint was that the parking garage attached to the hotel was messed up, an elevator was out, so we had to walk up the steep drive to the second floor east elevator to get to our car on the 4th floor. You try walking up a steeeeep parking garage hill after a few cocktails, lots of food, a bottle of wine, and 4 inch heels.

I'd definitely come back to 24 Grille, especially for a happy hour on their outdoor patio or to sit at their bar and order a salad and bottle of wine. Very fun and trendy place, with great food to make it 5 stars.

24 Grille is located on the first floor of the recently re-opened Westin Book Cadillac Hotel.  It's one-half of the Spa 1924 Grille with the other half being Spa 19, which opens later this spring.

This place has several things going for it.  First, it's inside the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel.  I made a documentary about the hotel a few years ago when they were still trying to get the place opened after more than 20 years of dormancy.  It always has a sentimental place in my heart as a result.

They also have an amazing drink menu.  All of the classics that you would expect elsewhere can be found here.  They also have a multitude of signature Detroit-themed cocktails that one can only find at their bar:  Kid on the Rocks, Eight Mile Martini and so on.

I'm a fan of their Stanley Cup, which is Jose Cuervo + something else to give it a red color.  This one is served with dry ice.

The fact that it's served with dry ice does two things.  First, it produces a bubbling sensation in the drink that makes it extra fun and is bound to get you noticed by everyone around.  Second, it produces a white fog that floats above your drink; completing the Red Wings red and white color scheme.  Most importantly, this beverage is very, very tasty.

As for the food, 24 Grille takes a casual, upscale approach to American cuisine.  They feature appetizers like sliders made with Kobe beef as well as entrees like crab lasagna.  All of it is perfectly prepared.

I visited on the first weekend that they were opened.  They did have a few kinks to work out of their system.  For example, it took almost 20 minutes for me to retrieve my coat from coat check because the hostess who would normally man that station had to take care of something else in the restaurant.  However, I'm willing to chalk things like that up to opening weekend kinks that aren't likely to be a serious issue once the place has been up and running for a couple of weeks.

In short, I highly recommend this place.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Detroit. It's not very big, but is simple and classy--with gorgeous diamond chandeliers and always a good crowd.

The roasted meat with veggies is fantastic. The mac and cheese is one of the best I've had (and I'm quite the mac and cheese connoisseur). The creme brulee is top also notch.

Really, no matter what you order here you can't go wrong!

24 Grille I give you 23 thumbs up. I'm so glad I tried you during Detroit's Restaurant Week Autumn 2010.

24 Grille is Big City Detroit style. The location in the Westin Book Cadillac Downtown is a perfect fit! The décor is smart, modern and sleek.

The food is top notch. The following are the wonderful items I had for dinner.

1 - Gass Farms Cherry Tomatoes
(Salad with marinated fresh mozzarella and spicy Italian rocket greens, served with aged cherry wood balsamic dressing)

The salad greens were fresh and crisp. The cherry tomatoes were the standard reds, as well as heirloom yellows. Yummy mozzarella and the balsamic was tasty, but nearly nonexistent. The prep Chef or server was a tad stingy.

2 - Olde English Boneless Braised Beef
(Slow-cooked Angus rib meat in Port wine veal essence, served with fresh fava, cherry tomato, glazed carrot, roasted potato, Cipollini onion and frizzled leeks)

I always laugh when I see braised beef, as it is a fancy way of saying pot roast. Regardless of what you call it, I call it AWESOME! The meat was so tender, so juicy, so full of flavor. The fava beens were fresh, firm (not mushy due to over cooking) with lots of flavor. The baby carrots were sweet and cooked to perfection. I LOVED this meal.

3 - Amaretto Ladyfingers & Orange Cream Cake
(Mascarpone and whipped cream with orange liqueur, served with layered Amaretto-soaked pastry and crunchy nut topping).

I will just say it heaven. The combination of flavors were perfect. The Amaretto was not over powering and the orange cream cake was not too sweet. I was a bit disappointed the serving size was on the small side.

Enough with the food and now on to the service.

If it wasn't for the service, I would have given 24 Grille 24 thumbs up. The Hostess greeted us upon arrival and we were seated right away. After that, things started go down hill. The bus-person was slow to bring bread. Our server wasn't really interested in being a server. He was friendly, but seemed to be mored interested in avoiding us.... I would expect a restaurant of this caliber to have servers who are very concerned about doing the best job possible.

Despite the less than perfect service, I will be back. I encourage everyone to try 24 Grille.

    ***Take-Out Menu***

    I'm a huge fan of 24 Grille's take-out menu!

24G has a variety of sandwiches on their take-out menu (which can be found on their website). An order comes with the soup of the day, a homemade cookie, and a pickle. All for $8!!! Call ahead and order between 11:30 and 4.

This is definitely value for $$. I pulled up to the valet and nicely told the gentleman that I will just be going in for a few minutes, so I didn't end up paying for parking. I ordered a peppered turkey sandwich, which was delish. 24G used romaine instead of iceberg lettuce and the bread was not your average white bread. It was essentially a gourmet sandwich for a less-than-gourmet price. The soup was cream of artichoke, which I've never had before, but will definitely be having again. Finally, I inhaled a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. It appeared a bit overbaked at first, but tasted great. All in a white paper bag with "24 Grille" stamped on the side.

Try it out, you won't regret it. If you do, it was only 8 bucks.

What a fun place! Situated inside the beautiful Book Cadillac Hotel, 24 Grille is a yummy restaurant that makes you feel like you're in a big city like NY or LA.

We tried an assortment of appetizers, from shrimp to steak. We also had the chocolate cake and creme brulee (both were to die for).

The cocktails were unique but a little pricey. We even ran into Wesley Snipes while we were there...it was cool, not him, but the place!

Let me start by saying we had the most amazing service here, amazing.

    Now onto the food:
You must absolutely get the pork tacos, they're served with this lime creme fraiche that was right on the mark.  Perfect amount of acid and spice in this dish.  We also got the duck confit with polenta as an appetizer, and the duck was tender beyond belief, and truly had a full duck flavor, that wasn't gamy.

Entrees consisted of the Veal Meatloaf, with a veal Cabernet sauce and the Berkshire pork chop with a cinnamon cognac sauce.  Out of the two, the pork was definitely the favorite, in addition to the cognac sauce, the pork was served with the most beautifully braised apples, perfect ying and yang IMHO.   The Meatloaf was okay, I found the sauce was a little overwhelming for the delicate veal, but the quality of the ingredients is quite apparent.

The atmosphere here is sexy and comfortable, they have these cool torches coming up from behind the service area, nice.

Dinner for two, with drinks was very reasonable.  If we're ever back in Detroit, we'll be back.

Revisited on a Saturday night about 8:30.  It wasn't packed, but tables were still seating even at 10:00.

The restaurant has a  nice vibe and is really a beautiful place.
I didn't mention that in my first review, but I thought it again during this visit.  It has darker woods and is a good mix of being open and allowing for some private space.

The food was really good but seemed a notch down from our first visit where much of it was spot-on. The arugula in the beet salad wasn't crisp.  Nicely plated just a bit off.

My wife's vegetarian dish, Himalayan Cabbage Rolls was beautiful.
I had the duck confit appetizer as an entree.  It was 3-star "A-ok" didn't wow me like Forest Grill's.

Can't tell you about desert.   Long after the dishes had been cleared, the waitress eventually dropped off the menu and then came back another 15 minutes later.  Frankly, our waitress was the weakest link in the service chain.  Just didn't seem to get it - timing, service...

On the other hand, the rest of the staff from the hostess to the managers to the bussers were all top-notch.  They seemed to have a team of people that were delivering or clearing things.  THEY were great.

Overall, I'd give it a 3.5 (a half star down) but rounding up, because I'd go back.
