My husband and I just got home from spending Memorial Day weekend in Canton for a wedding, and we were lucky enough to stay at 24 East Main Street.  It was the most relaxing place in which we have ever stayed; truly a home away from home.  Our room was comfortable and classy.  Charles, the owner, is the friendliest guy you'll ever meet and we had some awesome conversation with him.  We came for both the "bed" and "breakfast" and both were outstanding.  Homemade scones, fresh fruit, and fresh waffles topped with homemade blueberry syrup was just one of our amazing meals.  And, perhaps the most outstanding thing of all, we played Bananagrams with Charles and his friends one night and had the best time.  Stay at this place!  You won't forget it!

History

Established in 2008

The 24 East Main Street Bed and Breakfast was made after 4 years of restoring and remodeling this one hundred year old house in the Village of Canton.  It has been nearly 2 years since it opened as a B&B, and it has been great fun since then.  Having taken almost 4 years to restore the home, attention was paid to every detail, and special care was taken to retain all of the original character of the home while updating many of the old systems here.  Since the North Country once was a great supplier of lumber and quarried material, this house shows that by using North Country woods such as cherry, and North Country stones such as Potsdam Sandstone and Gouverneur Marble throughout its renovations.

As a St. Lawrence University sophomore, I struggled when it came to having my parents visit me in Canton.  There was never any place to stay during the busy weekends.  Their idea was to buy a home and have me restore it for them to stay in while they visited.  This idea is more or less how the Bed and Breakfast was born, save for the fact that the project took three years longer than we thought it would!  I now have this B&B to provide to other students and their families as well as anyone else visiting St. Lawrence County.
