Great location for hipster and uptight soccer mom watching. It was a gorgeous day outside on Sunday and it made this parklet that much more enjoyable.

Park(ing) Day is now 365 days a year on this block, and may be in many other SF locations in the near future.

This is the second of two street-side parklets erected in San Francisco this spring. The other is on Divasadero St. For those who don't know what this means, these parklets are basically former parking spaces converted into patio-like public spaces, built to allow a surprisingly large number of people relax and enjoy the surroundings, instead of subsidizing the storage of someone's Prius.

This parklet is stunning, a flowing extension of the sidewalk, about sixty-feet long, and composed of modular sections -- steel frames with bamboo decking. There is seating and even a couple of bike racks. This may be a city in severe budget crisis, but small businesses like Revolution Cafe, Loló, and the Escape from NY Pizza are proving to us that a little private investment can lead to some great public works feats. We can only hope that they will receive an excellent return on this investment so that others might also be encouraged to reclaim their streetspace for the people.

Kudos to Rebar for providing their design services in good conscience.

The city will most likely begin to streamline the installation of these structures if they are well-received by the public. I, for one, am on board. Come see it for yourself -- on foot, as it should be seen -- and see if you'd rather have three cars and some asphalt instead.

One of my fave parklets.   Since it's right in front of pizza as well as almost an extension of Revolution it's a sweet spot.  Plus it's always sunny and nice out here!  Glad this thing is permanent!
