The food here is just good, but oh my what a great staff. If I were reviewing them alone, I'd easily land on five stars.

We sat on the patio first, but decided it was a bit too nippy and asked to move inside. The place is a step up from diner inside, but the back patio really is lovely.

Our banana pancakes came out a little charred, and the waiter (/manager?) disclaimed that the chef would be happy to whip us up another batch if we wanted.  Honestly, though, this is how I love my pancakes!!  So I was perfectly happy, but five minutes later they plopped a fresh set of pancakes on the table for us. Totally unnecessary but the gesture was a strong indicator of their priorities -- clearly they aren't messing around when it comes to customer service.

For being our last meal in CA, I was very disappointed. We heard such great things, so maybe my expectations were too high.

Went there hungry, but after waiting an hour and a half to get the food I pretty much lost my appetite.. The point where you're SO hungry and then somehow you're body tricks you into thinking you're totally fine.  I guess they were understaffed? The server did not really come check often enough to see if we were okay.

I ordered the banana bread french toast but it did not taste as i expected. I guess I thought it would have more of a french toast consistency about it, but it tasted like banana bread cut up into the shape of French toast. Ate a few bites and let my husband finish the rest.

So sad this was our last meal before heading home.

i came here at 10:45am on a Sunday, with 3 others. The wait was short, maybe 2-3 minutes at the most. The lady who greeted us was sweet and friendly. We sat down on the patio and waited for our server. She took a moment to get to us but we ordered our food and drinks... and then we waited... and waited... and waited. The food was taking forever so we asked for the status of our food, since it had been an hour since we had arrived at restaurant and at least 30 minutes since we ordered our food. Another server said she would go check for us, then our server came and told us everyone came in at once, so the kitchen was backed up since everyones order went in at the same time, they have a small kitchen and we came on a Sunday at a busy time... after she told us that she said sorry then asked us if we wanted to cancel our order. I was frustrated by her responsive she wasn't very apologetic and sort of made us feel as though it was our fault for coming on a Sunday. She made sure to tell us why but didn't really apologize and I would have preferred she came to us before we asked and told us "hey sorry, we got really busy all at once and your food is taking a little longer" but we never got that. We then asked how much longer our food would take and she said 5 minutes, our food came out 15 minutes after we asked her.

If they have a small kitchen and can't take tables all at once, they need to have the host stagger seating better or let their guest know they are a bit behind so they can anticipate the wait.

    Anyhow...

    We got
{THE BISTRO} chorizo omelete - really tasty and spicy good stuff, i added salsa and guacamole which really make the dish

{4TH STREE COMBO} with bacon, the pancakes were huge!

    {ARTI AND FRIENDS}

{BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST} not as tasty as it sounds, the banana bread was good, but like banana bread it was a little dense and didn't have the french toast fluffy texture you'd expect.

Overall the food was good, but the service wasn't the best. At the end of our meal she said "I gave you 10%, assuming you guys signed into yelp" which sort of rubbed me the wrong way, I think she should have given us 10% because we had to wait 45 mins for our food, not because we checked into yelp.

Being half Mexican, a part of me wanted to hate their chilaquiles.  Seriously.

Unfortunately, my ego was bruised and these were some of the best darn chilaquiles I've had in a LONG time.  The tortilla chip was crunchy still, the egg was fluffy, the salsa nice and spicy.... These guys are doing it right.  Not to mention.... they use queso fresco on their Mexican dishes!  NOT SHREDDED CHEESE!  As you can tell by my username I love queso fresco :)  For 9 dollars, this dish was a steal, it was a large portion, delicious, and I have no regrets whatsoever for getting it.

Next, we also had the bacon and cheddar cheese pancakes...... OMG.  OMG. OMG.  Did that just happen in my mouth? Yes, you better believe it.  These were no joke mamma jamma pancakes.  Smothered them with lots of butter and syrup, they were God's gift to breakfast food.  MUST TRY.

I even think they go as far as to make their water, get this, cucumber water...  I think it was cucumber, whatever it was... It was heavenly and tasty, and quenched my thirst with style.

Thank you 212, you are utterly awesome... and my server was adorable and funny and sweet as pie!  You will love this place, the menu has a good variety of options, they also have beer and wine, (bottomless mimosas for 15 bucks....) and the ambience is great.  I like giving my business to people who deserve it, and 212 definitely will become one of my staples.

Subpar to say the least. A thoroughly underwhelming breakfast. But please allow me to say that the service was great, friendly, helpful, and the place is cute, nice location.  And my pancakes were fine, nothing special but I've had worse.  But that's where the praise ends.

We came in a group of 5.  My friends say the coffee was terrible.  One of them didn't like the Bloody Mary they ordered.  Chilaquiles, which I recommended on the basis of so many positive yelp reviews, were bland and forgettable (have any of you ever had REAL chilaquiles, I dunno, from somewhere MEXICAN?  Just curious).

I wasn't impressed with the banana bread french toast.  The "home fries" were even more ordinary.  We all wanted to like the food at this place but couldn't honestly say we enjoyed it.

Also despite the bubbly and fun waiter earning this spot an overall positive review, servicewise, it took over half an hour for them to get any of the food out, it didn't even seem that busy.  Nothing like a long wait for mediocre food.

We came here Sunday morning for for the first time and having walked over arrived a bit before they opened and were waved in right away.

Our waiter was extremely friendly and food was very good (I loved the breakfast sausage). I was amazed when the chef brought over two extra poached eggs for my Benedicts as he said he thought that the ones on my plate might be a little too hard.
I thought that service like that (since I didn't say anything about the original eggs) was amazing.

    Food and service are A+

    We will be back!

A friend and I arrived for a very early (9am) Saturday brunch at 212 Patio Bistro. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant when we arrived, so I was admittedly a little nervous. We sat in the patio dining area out back which was super cute and wonderful on a warm and sunny Long Beach day.

212 Patio Bistro totally blew away my expectations. The staff were genuinely cordial while we took more than our fair share of time ordering. We started with coffee and mimosas. The mimosas were served in a very generously-sized glass, and the coffee was refilled as often as we would drain our mugs. The "specials" all sounded amazing and my friend and I both ordered a daily special. I got the spinach, feta, mushroom omlet; they were even nice enough to let me custom order my omlet with egg whites only. My friend ordered the banana french toast which was incredibly flavorful without being super heavy. We took forever eating and talking, and didn't once feel rushed during brunch, even as the restaurant started to fill up.

Total bill was ~$15 each, making this place a great value for the quality of the food, and the amount of time we enjoyed our drink refills. I will definitely come here again, even if it is allll the way in Long Beach :P

The best omelette that I ever had!  When you go to 212 Patio Bistro, order the Brie, spinach and mushroom omelette. It was delicious, the Brie was so creamy and mixed with the spinach and mushrooms so well.  The service was friendly and efficient.  We even had a crash course in omelette making.....Thanks for that!    We also ordered the banana and blueberry pancakes.  These were large plate sized fluffy pancakes that did not disappoint.  The eggs, bacon and bran muffin were all delicious.  We will be going back soon to try the stuffed french toast that we were oogling at another table. We sat out on the patio which is quite nicely decorated with a fountain, flowers and nice tile.  Overall an excellent experience

My one star is for our poor waitress who has to work at this place. The owner of this restaurant is awful and her customer service is horrible.
I came today, Mother's Day, with two other people and two kids. We were greeted by friendly people and the wait was about 15-20 minutes. Our waitress was really nice and we ordered our food.
Then we waited and waited and waited. We sat as we could directly see the two cooks standing around talking... not cooking or preparing anything. It took about 50 minutes till out food finally arrived...
We ordered some pretty easy stuff: the mamma breakfast, biscuits and gravy, kids pancakes and stuffed french toast. The mamma meal was wrong, showing up with no sausage, and very undercooked (raw) potatoes. The biscuits and gravy were cold. The other two were ok, I only wished I had checked the bacon before my nephew ate it... because when we pointed that the sausage was missing from the mamma meal, they brought us 2 links, which were FROZEN.

At this point we didn't want to touch this food so my sister, the Mom at this Mother's Day breakfast, asked to speak to the owner about the horrible state of the breakfast we were served.

This  is the worst part. The owner yelled at her telling her how rude she was and that out of the hundreds of people no one had complained (I figure this is because all of the tables around us had still not received any of their food!) The owner told us we are the problem and that she will comp our meal and that we should never come back. I have never seen such horrifying customer service, and on Mother's Day!!

DO NOT EAT HERE OR WASTE YOUR TIME TO BE SERVED AWFUL FOOD. We left after tipping and feeling very sorry for our waitress.

    3.5 stars.

Located near the intersection of 4th and Temple. Read about the Blueberry Stuffed French Toast and decided to give it a shot. CHECK-IN WITH YELP FOR 10% OFF.

    Blueberry Stuffed French Toast ($9)
    - large order (split between 2 people)
    - 4 triangles of blueberry stuffed french toast drizzled with blueberry reduction and powdered sugar (really 4 slices of french toast)
    - Slice the Toast and cream cheese oozes out with some whole blueberries
    - The cream cheese makes the French Toast less dry
    - with syrup it's a sweet and savory concoction
    - it's pretty good considering I don't really like cream cheese
    - Tastes better than the stuffed french toast at The Pot Holder Cafe in Long Beach.

Since a breakfast isn't complete without eggs....

    Baby Bear ($5)
    - nothing special
    - 2 eggs, home fries, and 1 wheat toast
    - home fries are potato slices cooked in bacon fat and garlic
    - not sure if they bake the wheat toast but it's really hearty; none of that fake wheat bread

Service: Since there weren't any other patrons here, I didn't experience the bad service others had. Food came out relatively quick. Waitress came to make sure everything was okay. Friendly owners; I presume it's a husband and wife establishment.

Environment: indoor and outdoor seating. There is a patio in the back is perfect for the nice summer days. Brunch, alcohol, and summer...yeah that's how we do in the LBC. They even have those big umbrellas if the sun gets too strong.  The fountain also adds some serenity. It felt like we were no longer in Long Beach.

Overall, decent place to get brunch. If I'm craving Mexican and breakfast I may try their fusion dishes. Parking can be difficult especially on the weekends since parking is limited only to street parking. 212 Patio is not a must to a Long Beach resident but I got to try the bottomless mimosas and maybe I'll change my mind.

Came here with a raging hangover and 3 others that were in a similar state this past Sunday morning. The 20+ minute wait it took before we were seated nearly killed me... seriously.
My estimation of the place picked up once I was seated and my Poinsettia was served up. Here's my breakdown

Service: Stellar! Our waiter made us laugh, and not polite laughter either. Real laughs.

Food: Fantastic! I ordered the stuffed blueberry french toast and it's very deserving of all the hype. My boyfriend got some meaty omelette thing and really liked it. He's normally a tough sell too, so that says something.

The only downer: WAITING... For a table, for our drinks, for our food- For everything.
I worked in a restaurant before so i know the drill. I know kitchens get busy and that slows everything down, I get it. But a little communication and stepping it up with drinks may help. For instance, while I was waiting for my table on the sidewalk, with a pounding head and eyes scrunched up because the sun was blinding... If I had been offered a mimosa (or anything with an alcohol content) my spirits would have instantly been lifted! It would have definitely taken the edge off of all the waiting I was in for.

My note to management: Scale down on the wait time or step up the speed in which you get your patrons drunk.  Either way, they will thank you!

212 Patio Bistro, you had me at Bottomless Mimosas.

My boyfriend's gotten your Chilaquiles each time we've been and I always take a bite of his wishing I had done the same - next time... I've had two of your specials and, if you don't mind my honesty, have been satisfied but not wowed, so I'll be heading towards the spicy section of the menu next time. Your drinking water is so delicious - a hint of cucumber and lemon that is so refreshing - and your servers are all so friendly that we love coming back here. We're so glad you're here, 212 Patio Bistro, and we'll be more than happy to continue this romance as long as you continue filling up my personal pitcher of Mimosa...

Our group visited Long Beach from Arizona for a Weekend Cruise.  The morning of the cruise we decided we wanted to start drinking, one of the guys in our group Yelped Mimosas. This place came up and was near the port.  We walked in and Hope immediately greeted us from the front while Scott greeted us from the kitchen!!

We sat down on the patio, we knew we had come to the right place when we saw a sign that said "Life is good have a Mimosa!"  Hope served us and she was awesome, talked to us about our cruise, she even told us some good spots in Ensenada!

I ordered the Banana Nut Bread French Toast, I truly do not think I will ever have a breakfast platter that can top that.  Everyone else had awesome food as well!

I will visit this place every time I visit California.

The parking is a PAIN for any restaurants along 4th St. on Saturdays. FYI, park in the neighborhood and just walk to the restaurant. As for 212 Patio Bistro, this is a definitely a good place if you can sit outside. The inside of the restaurant is whatever, but the patio is just peachy.

Order yourself a mimosa and some stuffed french toast with blueberries. It's just the right amount of sugary goodness. I don't like to order really sweet brunch options, but this one hit the spot!

Not as amazing as Coffee Cup Cafe, but it comes pretty darn close.

A year or so ago I wrote a bad review. My how times have changed. New owners have made all the difference. My experience for breakfast this morning was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Have I mentioned amazing.

My fiancee had the bacon cheddar pancakes, and they were so good the first words out of her mouth were " WHAT THE F***". My scramble with chorizo, onions, cheese was incredible. The potatoes served with it were soft, and yet had that nice crispiness I cherish. Not only will we go back we'll be regulars. The food came out quick and hot. No more waiting 60 minutes like with the old absentee owners.

This is now THE PLACE to come for an amazing breakfast in Long Beach. If you've been here before and were disappointed by the service, and/or the kitchen give 212 another shot with the new owners. You won't be disappointed.

We went to this place for Sunday brunch because of the yelp 10% discount, thanks yelp!

We sat outside the place for a good 10-15 minutes before getting seated for a table of 4. We walked through the Bistro and noticed 2 unused tables inside. OUTSIDE there were another 2 unused... And I don't mean dirty / not cleaned off after use, just not in use. When we sat down we were given menus and had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to come greet us. We ordered drinks... Took about 5 minutes to get those.

Another 5 minute later they took our food order. This was started by finding out "what they had left", not what they had... Interesting. Took about 15 minutes to get our food... which was REALLY GOOD! This is the only reason I gave this place 3 stars and not less... The service was slow, the place was poorly run with their servers (not the servers themselves, just how they were managed), the wait was long, but the food was AMAZING! My girlfriend had the blueberry stuffed french toast and it was worth this review alone... I got the build your own omelet with ham / sausage and it was amazing as well.

All in all its easy a 3 star place... Will probably go back because we live close, but I still prefer The Potholder Cafe over near Belmont Shores.

He's 90 and in a wheelchair, and it is great to be able to bring him to this place, with its warm and friendly staff (they know to bring him a budweiser!), very good food, bright sun-filled patio, and happy if perhaps a bit hung-over crowd.

I've passed this place dozens of times, but their (old) odd operating hours meant that it was always closed.  A few months back they changed ownership and extended the hours.  The board from my old place of work had a board meeting here, so I finally had the opportunity to try it out.

The verdict?  The food was delicious (I had the tofu scramble with rye bread and coffee) and the staff- super sweet and accommodating.  The new owners definitely get props for keeping the old staff aboard.  It always astounds me when new owners scrap everyone and everything; it's foolhardy on a business level and lacking compassion on a personal level.  So good for the new 212 owners, they seem both savvy and caring.

    Hi Rob!

What a neat little place. I'm glad I found it on Yelp. Next time I am sure to try the blueberry stuffed french toast when I bring my hunny.

I met up here with a friend. We had the spinach, mushroom, brie omelette....Delicious and I really love the way the potatoes are spiced as well. They let us sit there and gab for at least three hours without rushing us out.

They also have a HUGE patio, which I suppose would be great for a nice sunny day. It was just too cold for me to be outside. I can't wait to bring my bf here for brunch or breakfast. I can definitely see us being regulars.

Pricing is perfect for what you get and they also have mimosa/bloody mary options which are good. They also have some interesting latin menu items and that I wonder about, but first thing's first. French Toast. I wish it was walking distance from our place, cuz that would be a nice thing to do on the weekend, but driving 10 mins. is not so bad either :).

There is plenty of street parking and there's no crazy big crowds although it seems to get busy later in the morning. Can't wait to go back.

It's been a while since we have been to 212 Bistro (aka The Porch from back in the day).  It has been through too many owners and the vision was lost.  We heard new owners had taken over and expanded the menu (which it needed).  Great menu and daily special choices.  I had the spinach/mushroom/brie omlet...cooked perfectly...with potatoes and marble rye (the bread is homemade off the hook from a private baker).  My honey had scrambled eggs with onion/cheese...he said they were ok...but his link sausage was very juicy and tasty.  Matthew our waiter was efficient and friendly...you want to give him a big hug.  So...why 3 stars?  They are not flexible on menu items.  We wanted to try the biscuit/gravy but it only came as a meal...not a side.  I mean what is one biscuit w/gravy as a side.....hence inflexible.  I don't know any place in LB that doesn't have this as a side.  Honey wanted 1 pancake versus toast..nope...had to get 2 (meal)....sup with this????  The pancake probably cost less that 2 slices of toast or at least charge for 1 pancake...hence inflexible.  Don't know anywhere in LB where you can't get just 1 pancake versus toast.  There also were no grits...shame because they don't take that long to cook up.  Now not to fault them on this but no REAL maple syrup for pancakes (there are only a couple of places that actually does have real maple syrup but they charge extra for it which we don't mind...who the hell wants pancakes or french toast with anything but real maple syrup).  Overall we would go back but know they will not do substitutions or change their menu selections which bothers me since I sometimes would want this sauce with this item and have something else added and/or taken off.  Not too sure I would be able to add jalapenos on my burger.  Do have to say their green & smoked red salas are off the hook good.   Give them a try...like I said, we will probably be back but they need more flexibility in the kitchen.

Holy bejeezus, I just found my new favorite breakfast joint. SCORE! Seriously fresh, and seriously good.

Simple menu, but with incredible options. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros (drooooool), and my BF ordered the "Bistro" omelet. His dish came with these fried potatoes - kinda like home fries? They were seasoned really well, and definitely complemented our meals.

The $3 glass of OJ is huge! Restaurants are usually pretty stingy with their OJ, but 212 Bistro knows what's up.

Thanks, Bistro! We'll see ya again this weekend.

Botomless mimosas, great food, cute place,  really great service and the best owners ever! Me and my boyfriend looked this place up a few months ago. We were looking for a place to have brunch and mimosas outside. This place was perfect! I'd recommend the chilaquiles, huevos Benedicto and of course the mimosas. The owners Scott and hope were very sweet and funny and extremely attentive. For anyone who has never gone, this place is a must!!

I have had breakfast here twice, and always leave wanting to come back for more! The patio in the back is a great place on a warm day, or the inside is cute with the old diner feel too. Could easily get in and out of there if you were on a time constraint, or could leisurely spend the morning there. The food is delish! Never encountered a wait. One of my fave breakfast joints in LB!

This is one of those neat eateries that make Long Beach a grand place for foodies.

Some of the best coffee and omletes that you can order in town. Tasty taters., Great friendly service.

I hadn't been here since the early/mid 1990's since it was "The Porch Cafe"....  I drive by this place several times a week, but had heard some bad press about different owners over the years..so, I had just kind of written it off.
A friend called and asked me to lunch today...and this was the destination.
    I'm glad we went!
The (only) waiter was pleasant enough...and very easy on the eyes.  I had the Bistro Burger...a delicious mixture of ground beef and ground pork...cooked perfectly...thick and juicy.  One friend had the BLT..the other had the Cuban sandwich....we all enjoyed our choices.
We sat on the patio, which was clean, and offered plenty of shady options.  My only complaint was that our table was not leveled, by over 1/2 an inch...and rocked back and forth everytime one of us took our hand/arm off it.
The food came out quick...and the waiter checked in with us often to see how everything was.
I had a nice chat with the owner, Scott, and the waiter (sorry, didn't remember your name) on the way out....nice guys!
I'll be back.....maybe to try that banana bread french toast next time!!!
Good Luck......wish you years of steady business.

I came here for breakfast a few weeks ago because my favorite breakfast place down the street was closed. We sat outside. The patio is totally cute, with music, a fountain and tons of umbrellas for shade. It was a holiday and a Monday and we were served quickly and efficiently.

I did order the Chilaquiles, on the recommendation of Yelpers all around here. I was not disappointed! They were so damn good! They are a fancy delicious gourmet version of what Grandma made for me on special occasions. I was really impressed that they were able to keep all of the tortillas crunchy! I am so going back for more.

Nice place, under new management recently.  The food was great and the outdoor space was a nice touch.  Despite service being a little slow at times, I really enjoyed the place and I'll definitely come back in the future.  The proprietor actually came to my table and introduced herself and asked about my experience, which says a lot about supporting independent, local businesses!

Even though I live in the area, this has not typically been one of my regular breakfast spots.  Last weekend I saw the reviews on yelp since the new owners took over and decided to give 212 another chance.  Both my husband and I are glad we tried it.  Food was fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned, coffee was hot, and service was great.  I has eggs, sausage and bacon which came with the delicious home fried potatoes.  My husband has a chorizo omelette.  We both had trouble finishing because of the amount of food.

I will definitely be back.  The new owners have really changed this restaurant for the better.

I've been mourning the loss of our beloved Porch Cafe for many years, unwilling to eat at any of the restaurants that followed...until today.  (Margy and Wynell -- we still love and miss your Porch Cafe!)  Breakfast at 212 Bistro, under new ownership, was terrific and the service was great.  I had the Arti Omelette (with artichokes, roma tomatoes, spinach and feta) and it was delicious.  Others at our table of 8 had the Country Scramble special and loved it.  Portions are generous.  Pancakes were really tasty too, including the complimentary chocolate chip pancake that was sent to our table for dessert (thanks Robert!)  It was great being on the back patio with friends...after a loooooooong hiatus.  Keep Hope (one of the new owners) alive -- go eat at 212 Bistro!

Wanting to try something new. My friend and I went exploring this site and found 212 Bistro. Wow, what a great surprise! Our server was Felicity she was incredible. She was great to talk to and help us choose the right menu items. We couldn't have been happier. The other server, I believe Eric, was just a gracious and friendly.

With great staff and great food. After one visit, it became our place. Thank you 212 Bistro for a great experience.

A winning neighborhood joint! I live right around the corner from here but have never tried it out because it always seemed like they were closed or I was always on the way to somewhere else, but I got to meet the owner/chef at 4th St Vine recently and she said I should come by to try their chilaquiles, their specialty. After reading some other locals' reviews I decided to give them a try and it turned out to be a great experience. I didn't even look in their menu; as soon as the uber-friendly and fabulous waiter told me about their 3-item breakfast trio special featuring their chilaquiles, posole and stuffed blueberry french toast, I knew that was what I wanted, because you get to try all their popular items in one shot!

I must say, they were all winners: the chilaquiles had light, crispy, freshly-fried tortillas topped with scrambled eggs, chicken, cheese, with a delicious red sauce. The posole had a hearty green broth with nice shreds of pork and generous amount of hominy. And the stuffed blueberry french toast...MMMMM! Light and fluffy with a delicious cream cheese and blueberry filling, perhaps my favorite of the trio. The coffee was kind of meh (a little too acidic) but decent. The place is very small but has patio seating out back, which was not recommended on this chilly post-storm morning, but looked like it would be very nice on a warm day. Good, generously-portioned food served with a smile and so close! Looking forward to my next visit.
