This gallery is on my must see each and every 2nd Saturday I attend.  Their approach is so reachable and the art is so affordable, I love it.

Last night I saw the exhibit on bras. Embellished bras, sculptured bras, wire/metal bras, paintings of women putting on bras; it was fantastic.  Then they had a silent auction benefiting breast cancer research.  I hope I win a bra!!!

This art gallery is one of Sacramento's oldest and finest. It's run by Jim and Joanie Ferry. They host some of the best shows because they are deeply connected to the local art community. If you want to have a lesson in this region's art scene, start here.

Their most recent show (last night was its final running night) featured more than 50 artists who were each asked to create 50 mini paintings/pieces over 50 days. They call it the "50-50 Show." There was a collection of ceramic cars, paintings of the American River, paintings of toys from our youth, a series of tiny masks, mixed media, and all sorts of creative, eclectic collections that offered something for everyone. I also enjoyed the myriad of tiny art works. Very creative and good for folks with visual A.D.D.!

I have worked with the Ferrys in the past when they volunteered for a nonprofit auction I was planning. They are extremely active in nonprofit efforts throughout the community and are truly part of the core of this city's rich culture.

This 50-50 Show was particularly fun, but I always like the shows at this gallery. The Ferrys consistently do a nice job of posting narratives and photos of the artists, so you don't have to rely on abstract interpretations of their work. You get a true sense of the artist and their featured pieces. This is a definite must-see on your 2nd Saturday route.

Came here last night for Art Second Saturday. The 50-50 Show was going one - fifty artists paint fifty paintings in fifty days. Man was it packed! I'd never experienced crowds of this caliber - not since I saw the Impressionists at the De Young oh-so-long-ago.

This is a great concept because:
    1) It makes art "affordable" for everyone - most paintings/works were on average $100 or less
    2) You get to experience the artists repertoire and medium in a variety of paintings
    3) You can meet the artists and talk to them about their art (at least at the openings)

Like most of the galleries in this area, no wine is served on Art Second Saturday. I was told that the restaurants/bars in the area complained that they lost business because crowds would drink the wine there instead of buying a drink at their establishments. Fair enough.

I just think it is ironic that in sleepy Fair Oaks Village all the galleries are pouring, they just don't have the crowds and buzz that downtown has.

It's not the best or most creative art by any means, but it the stuff here wouldn't be bad for putting in your apartment since most of it is relatively affordable.

I don't think you will find any pioneers or an art phenomenon here but like I said if you need some simple, more legit Urban Outfitters style art that won't break the bank you're good to go here.

Just mediocre art.  It's good to see a Sacramentan creative culture rise up.  But the average piece is gimmicky here.

I saw some work by Marlene Kidd a few weeks back that was great.

But this is clearly going to rise up as a social phenomenon (a la the 2nd saturdays), with people indulging their sense of smart-sophistication, as opposed to an art phenomenon.

This isn't really boilerplate stuff for a smaller town gallery, it's just the ratio of hipness : actual art is pretty low still.  Friendlier than ones in SF, so, 2 stars for friendliness.

We have had a lot of luck finding just the right piece at 20th street.  And when we don't find what we are looking for hanging in the gallery,  we ask to see what's in "the back room."  Great service, great selection, and super nice people.
