My boyfriend and I randomly ended up in Oyster Bay after driving around Long Island with nothing to do and just looking for cool places to take photos. Having never been there and knowing nothing about the place, we decided to stop by because we saw there was a classic car show going on. I used to have a 1960 mercury comet and miss working on it, so I get pretty excited over these things. Walked around a bit and I saw a great looking building -- 20th Century Cycles-- got closer and saw a great looking Ducati in the front window! Wow! Decided to go in and was just amazed by the cycles. All of my favorites! I was so confused. These must all be for sale, right? Is this a show room of some of my favorite motorcycles? And what is with the cooler of beer and glass-bottle coca-cola in the corner? What the hell is going on, where the hell am I?
My boyfriend was dying of thirst and we were trying to figure out who the owner was so we could see if he'd sell us a coke out of the fridge. There were two guys in the shop area talking, an older guy with a total 'car guy' beard, and a younger guy with a funny hat. Having been around a lot of 'car and bike guys', both seemed like they could be the logical owner. They seemed busy and I didn't want to interrupt them in order to buy a coke off of them that bad, so I take a bunch of cool photos and leave.
Later, I remember the place, want to look it up so I can find out what exactly it is, and realize that the 'car guy beard' is Billy Joel and it's his shop. -
