Neighborhood: Brooklyn/Park SlopeThere's televisions everywhere....even right next to each table. It's not expensive...the apps are good...but the 5 stars comes with the fact that this is one out of a handful of places that actually show HBO, Showtime and pay per view boxing!!!

this place is so random. whenever you go you dont know what to expect. sometimes its a sportsbar, and they have "the game" on on all the monitors in the bar. they also have tables set up in the back area in front of the big screen for people to watch the action.
sometimes its more of a club, and they clear out the tables from the back area and make a dance floor, and people bump and grind to hip hop and top 40 r&b and rap played by the dj.
so random. but whatevs, ive always had fun when ive gone.
I came here for lunch with friends the other day. The place is nice enough for a foodie pub. I'll break it down through.
PROS:
- Comfortable seating
- Friendly staff
- Decently clean bathrooms
- Paper tablecloths and crayons you can draw on them with (always fun)
- Good selection of alcohol
CONS:
- A limited menu. They don't even have BLTs, which is weird because they have the fixings all there.
- It looked and tasted like all their dishes are marinated in oil. As someone watching my food intake, seeing that kind of thing is both disgusting and disheartening. I ended up not eating much, after ordering some chicken fingers and tasting nothing but oil. I even tried everything my friends got, and I still wasn't impressed. Maybe I should have gotten eggs or something, but after a mouthful of oil (and very little chicken), I wasn't very hungry.
I guess it's alright for a quick bite with friends, but I doubt I'll be coming back anytime soon. It's a pity, because the staff almost makes it worth it. But I'm not going to damage my health just to be polite. Oh well.
200 Fifth is the kind of place that makes me wish I was a sports fanatic. Every time I walk by, I can hear a chorus of voices "YESSSSSS"ing as some team scores points in some game. There's always tons of people inside drinking a variety of cheap beers and eating monster hamburgers and wings! This place is so popular the crowd is usually spilling out onto the sidewalk. I've even accidentally gotten caught in the middle of a pick-up football game!
The food here is typical bar food - burgers, fries, wings, etc. And it's decent, but I think it's the liveliness that keeps people coming back.

Great burgers, good fries, good place to come watch the game and get wasted on cheap beers without worrying about getting kicked out for yelling at the screen. I don't know if it's a great place to take anyone you want to have sex with.
At night - awful. And a $15 cover? Are you fucking serious?

The food here is actually really good, and the prices aren't bad at all. On one side you have more of a traditional restaurant w/a bar. You'd probably bring a casual date there. On the sports bar side (my preference), there are television screens and a much more lively crowd.
The music is LOUD...I mean very VERY LOUD, and depending on the hour, it's almost as if you're in a nightclub. I have to laugh at some of the musical selections though; you'll hear anything from Britney to Tupac. The playlist doesn't really seem cohesive. I like coming here a lot though, and think it's a great place to bring a group of friends.

Sunday morning office hours, trying to figure out where to hit up for some fooseballs, cheap decent beers, and wings accione . . .
I came up with 200 5th. The reviews on Yelp were mixed, but a few factors made it the day's winner:
- "Cheap" beer
- "Cheap" food
- Supposed 40 screens of fooseballs
- "My friend and I drank and ate here for 4 hours one Saturday and our tab was a whopping $20."
- "Great selection" of beer
Quickly, the beers are on the cheaper-side, there are a good number of beers on tap, there are nearly that many screens, and if you get the beer specials, a pint was only $3.50. But, no, I don't see how the total bill can be only $20 for two. For 4 beers, 2 mimosas, 8 wings and an omelette, our total bill was $40 w/o tip.
Well, after trekking all the way up to UES for Redeemer and doing an R-Q-R to get back to the BK ASAP, we arrived at 200 5th just in time for kickoffs.
Walking in, I was impressed with the cozy restaurant atmosphere of the place. I guess I was expecting it to be more of a bar than a restaurant: No reason for this misconception.
One thing I should mention, after reading a bit about 200 5th on nymag http://nymag.com/resta...: You don't need to make a reservation there. I mean, it was only half-full when we got there at 1pm. Not sure what nymag is talking about there.
The maitre'd was nice and told us to take a table in the raised dining area where there were 6 TVs built into the wall dividing it from the bar and said he'd put on my Seahawks game in on the TV right in front of us. NICE.
From where I was sitting, along with the 5-TVs dedicated to me, I could see 2 behind the bar - the wall has siding doors - and 3 more, each in the corners of the establishment. Yes, that would be 10 total TVs to keep track of.
Of course, not all of the games were important or interesting, so I think there was a total of 6 games I had the pleasure of watching simultaneously, and on that note, 200 5th gets very good points.
As for the food, it was 50/50. I suppose it depends on what you get, but the omelette with bean salsa wasn't very good. The salsa had such a weird combination of flavors that my friend had to save the omelette from it. My Buffalo Wings were good. A bit on the hard-side, but still solid. The sauce, though, was nearly perfect, in the sense that it had just the right amount of heat for my taste.
At around 2nd quarter of the Seahawks game, an Eagles fan came in with his 5 year old daughter and ended up sitting right next to me. I told my friend to brace for a brawl, but the dude turned out to be a nice fellow, so there were no punches thrown or anything - Good thing, since I would have gotten my ass whipped by the big guy.
Great place for relaxed football watching at cheapish prices. I wish we had a place like this in Fort Greene/Clinton HIll area. Sure, there's Mullanes . . . but . . . So 200 5th gets an extra Star for having about 1 to 1 ratio of TVs to NFL games (that you can actually watch from where you are sitting).

I must say, the saving grace of this place is the variety and the prices, but other than that this place didn't quite knock my socks off.
First of all, when I asked our waitress if they made their own ranch, she retorted with a snotty, "I don't know." So I paused, thinking she would offer to check or SOMETHING, but no, she just stood there staring at me as if I inquired if there really was a god-- a question that she, our waitress, had no power to answer. That kind of ticked me off.
We got our food-- it was nothing exceptional, but by no means bad.
Then.. to my left.. something caught my eye. What just scurried behind the painting? My friends saw it as well. We waited. There! Again! Gross.. our worst nightmare had been confirmed. We watched some more in horror as we saw bugs on the wall make their way across the brick behind the painting and then back out on the brick again.
Sorry, I don't care if I had the best meal ever here, that gives me the heeby jeebies.

Very basic, generic pub. Been for dinner a couple of times and been underwhelmed each time. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't qualify it as good either. The brunch is better, but you either have to go when there's no sports on, or deal with the noise from the bar.

If you are here and there isn't a long wait, come try their food. It, and the location, are the only reason this place gets my stars.
However, if you come for a drink and/or the "nightlife", then I'm removing those stars and cashing them in for a Beretta.
Not only is the party beyond ghetto, but they have the balls to try and charge $15 to get in... if I were looking for an STD for a black eye, then I'd certainly pay a professional escort who will do it right.
PS: Try the famous burgers!

This is not to be confused with 230 Fifth in Manhattan. Definitely not to be confused with that.
Update: went here for a Patriots game (It was nuts crowded). The food here is delicious. the boneless buffalo wings were almost soggy tender which was good and bad but the potato slices were tasty and moist. So many tvs, they set up every game along the bar's sets, it's really well organized.
Oh updated little bit of info from the original go at the review: I was sipping on my pint of hard cider when something came on the speakers. It was something I had never heard at a bar. It was strange and well produced. It was sung by men who had been rochambeau'd too many times by school bullies.
Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way" was playing in this bar. I looked at Chris and almost strained my jaw with the surprised that filled my eyeballs.
I will have to go back here on a more crowded night to really get a picture of how good or bad this place is, and I have a feeling my rating is going to go down judging by how many times I've walked by here and purposely avoided it because of the crowd on the weekends, it looked like scumbags anonymous and with Union Hall diagonal across the intersection I was never tempted to go here. However, however, I did go here last night just to try it out, it was quiet and there were mainly couples and the staff just waiting to close up the bar.
Mind you I haven't trekked over to Bierkraft down the street yet; but the great thing about these bars is they do have good beers on tap, eclectic fair from around the country; whenever you see bar-long tap lines, you know it's a good night. They had Monty Python's Holy Grail. I didn't have it, but it certainly sounded like it would make me a funnier person.
What really interested me the most, although their kitchen had closed, was the bar menu. 10 oz. burgers is something when you really think about it, most places really don't purport to that. On top of that, their menu also states that their calamari is fresh, so "taste the difference". I shall good people of 200 5th. As well, the bar menu was actually a bar menu, probably one of the most varied and actual delicious looking bar menus i've seen in a while. they go beyond the chicken fingers and wings; they have braised rib. They have oysters. They just have a lot of stuff you won't normally find at some random sports bar.
The space is very large, it's basically divided up into two parts: the south side of the place has it's own entrance, and it's the restaurant area. It has a bar, yes, but it also has tableclothed booths and seating for an actual dining experience that probably doesn't feel like a bar, which is why they separated it. The north side of the place is straight up gigantor pub/sports bar. Not too many tvs, but a huge section for probably dancing and mingling, the pool table, and a couple of high booths for those who are weak at the knees.
the bathroom was quite nice here actually, large, white-tiled, clean (for a wednesday), certainly wasn't a dump.
It's the perfect place for discerning brosephs. Next time I'll bring my button down or wear a little gold chain and coiff my hair.

Okay, so I have to say I love this place. I love the food and come here all the time. I could suggest anything on Mendy's menu or the lesser known Bargain menu, which is placed on the table, but highly recommend the 200 Fifth Clams - if you like clams. They are freakin' amazing. Be sure to ask for extra bread to sop up the broth they come in - which is the best part.
The beer is cheap, the drinks are too. The atmosphere ranges depending on the day you go. Friday and Saturdays host a band or deejay around 9 pm so they charge a cover on one side of the place and attract many different types of people. The restaurant is separate, which is a good thing. They cater to any size party you come with without a long wait. The service has always been above average and the food outstanding. If you come here for Sunday brunch, to watch a game or for the holidays, its a good choice for a great price. Give it a shot.

Great pre-game saturday move - This is a strong bar for the person who likes to wake up early, eat some wings, watch some football and drink some beers. The beers on tap are unparalleled in the area, they are cheap as is the food. My friend and I drank and ate here for 4 hours one Saturday and our tab was a whopping $20. This bar also has a great weekend-day drinking policy of bartender giving at least one free beer.
Good hospitality, food and beer selection.

One of my favorites - great selection - most is good but the beef ribs are tough. Sometimes the specials run out too early, but with a huge full menu and a rather large bar menu, you've got to find something to tickle your palatte. They are open until 1am during the week and 4am on the weekends. A favorite for sports fans who want to watch the playoffs or title fight to something other than nachos and Bud. They also have a DJ, dancing and live music sometimes on one side of the place.
