I came in for a quick glass of wine last Friday night. Service was good, but the restaurant was not busy at all, so we got plenty of attention. I can't speak for service on a busy night.
Wine selection was great and I was happy to find out that this place has/had the same owner as my favorite wine bar in Dallas, Cru.
One perk: They allow dogs on the patio! They will even provide a water bowl. I'll definitely be bringing my pup back here! -

Went to 20 nine with my bros and a friend after a long hiatus, and it is definitely going to become a regular hangout of mine. I had the Shiraz flight and a Tawny port. Both were amazing. If you are a fan of dessert wines, be sure to ask for the dessert wine menu. They have a wide selection. In addition, go for the bread pudding. It's fantastic, but it's sweet enough that it should be shared among at least two people.
Sara(h?) was our waitress, as I recall. She and the rest of the staff were super attentive. Drinks and food came quickly. Any used plates or glasses were removed promptly, and the check came immediately when we asked for it.
All in all, no complaints and a great experience--I definitely recommend it. -

Very nice place in San Antonio that is locally owned and not part of a chain. The interior is interesting with nice quiet tables in the back, a good bar with nice vibe in the front (good selectino of wines) and an out door area suitable for smokers, dogs, and fresh air freaks. The menu is modest and interesting with a lot of small portions. Worth a return visit.

Nice place, but the atmosphere was a but stuffy. Offer quite a few wine flights. Menu was limited. Coconut cake was sub par. I probably won't be back, since max's wine dive across the street has a much cooler vibe and better menu.

I enjoyed a nice dinner here last night. My server, Wacey, was extremely friendly, professional and helpful. The atmosphere was very nice...I particularly liked the chandelier made of wine glasses visible when you enter the restaurant. The wine list was extensive and the chicken entree was delicious with asparagus and mashed artichoke hearts.

Chef Albert Vasquez is amazing and he's changing the face of gourmet food in Alamo Heights!!! We went for his tasting menu and we were blown away at his creations and how intuitive he was about flavors!! You just wouldn't believe how beautiful our food was!!, and how tasty. All of our courses layered flavors on top of the last. The wine selection was just to die for and they offer "wine flights" how cool is that?? Ask them about their take home wine specials because you wouldn't believe the great deal they offer. The service was bar-none the very best service I have ever experienced. We will be back!!!

Underwhelming is the best way I can think to describe this place. Both the bar and the waitress we had (for both visits) were just blah on both visits as well. I wouldn't say I'd balk at going to this place, but not a place I'd suggest if asked.
Food to price point it not great, but the food is good enough that you aren't disappointed in the flavor. Would definitely recommend getting a pizza--it's worth the wait. Would definitely NOT order the steak fries... Hill Country Fare steak fries done in my oven would beat 20 Nine's any day of the week. They have a really nice wilted spinach salad we enjoyed on both visits. The shrimp bisque we had was completely the wrong texture to be a bisque and rather bland. Had it been called something else I could have let it go. Salmon dish was just about the same quality I'd be able to produce at home, so for $25, not that happy with it. I know I'm a pretty decent cook though. Their chocolate mousse was good, but not the best I've had either.
The wine flights are pretty good deals overall, but there are definitely some deals that are not the value you might think they are. Sauvignon Blanc was probably the best price to selection value. With several other options in the immediate vicinity, including the increasingly popular Max's, they are a far cry from secure in their Ouarry status, but not someplace I'd ever imagine sending someone at seeking out. -

Went here for New Year's Eve with my wife for her birthday. They had a limited holiday menu, but the chefs executed it very well. The had the place decorated very nicely and the atmosphere was festive. Unfortunately, we received terrible service. Our waitress made it clear that she really didn't want to be there. She never brought us any bread to start, brought our food out to us lukewarm and was rather unfriendly the whole night. I refused to leave a tip after such cavalier service and left the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth about 20 Nine.
I checked my bank statement a couple of days later and the restaurant took 20 percent off my card anyway for a tip just because it was a holiday for their staff. I understand the logic, but I will not tip bad service. So I called the manager to get my money back and after two days of haggling they finally agreed to give me back my money. I still have not gotten the money back.
My wife and I had really hoped to be regulars here, but not after this experieence.1 Previous Review: Show all »

20 Nine is a fabulous new addition to San Antonio! Some of the food offerings are somewhat familiar...with a twist, but the rest look absolutely divine! It took me forever to decide what to get!
My friend ordered the beef and jalapeno pizza because he's a pizza nut, and probably bleeds dough and cheese. He said it was very yummy, and saved a piece of crust for me to taste. (wasn't that nice of him?) Yeah, we're kind of selfish that way. Anyway...I digress...I decided it was salad night, and ordered the caesar salad with their grilled chicken added. The salad was perfect! It wasn't over-dressed, and the chicken was moist, flavorful, and made me almost want to stand up and do the chicken dance. Yeah...it was THAT good. Crap! Almost forgot about our appetizer...fried saffron risotto balls stuffed with goat cheese. I never would've imagined this combination, but I was in risotto ball heaven. They were served with marinara sauce, and it was equally as yum-a-licious!
With all that said, I must admit that I'm a bit perplexed about some of the reviews on here. Most of the negativity appears to revolve around service. Well, our waitress was amazing, and we'll definitely be back for round two! Don't miss this gem!! -

This restaurant is gorgeous inside. Perfect, perfect first date gig. Clean and modern, the prettiest chandeliers, walls of antiqued maps and a beautiful bar. Wine flows like water, there's a limited beer selection and a full menu of yummy eats from apps to entire meals.
I highly recommend trying a wine flight, if for no other reason than the cool presentation. I won't spoil it, but I will tell you if I could have found a way to sneak it out in my purse, I might be a most wanted list somewhere...
I was really disappointed in the service. At first, our waitress was great. But, as we ended our meal, she just disappeared to the bar to chat with other servers. We waited so long for our check that I had to go to the bar and ask her to come visit and it still took her several minutes to make her way towards us. I hate to be that picky, but that was my experience.
It wouldn't keep me from going back and giving it another go, though, bc all the other pluses outweigh it for now.Listed in: WINO I don't mind having one…, A Quarry Quandary...

Alright they get 4 stars because of their burger, which I only had a bite of, but my husband loved it! I got the veggie pizza. It was good, but covered in greasy cheese, which was unexpected from a swanky place like this! If not for the burger, they probably would have gotten 3 stars.
We split a wine flight which was nice. They even give you a little card which explains each wine in the flight. My husband enjoys reading the description while I sip each one.
I would go back, but maybe just for a glass (or flight) of wines... -

My wife and I won a gift card to here so we decided to pay a visit a few days ago. I'd heard a lot about their pizzas and while my wife loved it, I found it just so-so. Keeping it simple, we got the margherita. The toppings were very fresh and tasty but the crust to me was bland and lacked any flavor.
We also tried the crab cake appetizer and I was a big fan of that. Much more crab meat than breading and the spicy dipping sauce had the right amount of kick to it.
Our shared main course was the seared salmon. It was a very good size and was laid over a bed of Minnesota wild rice with diced asparagus and pecans and a blackberry-Pinot Noir sauce. We both thought they went overboard with the amount of rice but had to ask for more sauce. There was just a small amount drizzled around the rice, which was absorbed quickly by the rice.
We will definitely be back to try some more items on the menu. But for now, it's not an immediate hit. We were glad we got there during happy hour because all wines by the glass and appetizers are 25% off. -

Hands down my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. I've been going here since my husband and I moved to SA last February and it reminds me so much of one of my favorite places in Chicago, Bijan Bistro. Bijan Bistro I miss you!!!
First off the restaurant itself. It's all wood, low lighting, beautiful chandeliers made of wine glasses and just a very low key vibe.
The staff. The staff always recognizes us. Usually people just recognize me because of my puffy head but these guys also remember my husband and more importantly what he likes to drink. Iced tea with real sugar.
The food. Uhmazing! Seriously amazing. My favorite is the mixed greens with grilled chicken. They also always have a super yummy soup specials. I believe last time it was roasted squash with pancetta. To die for. My husband usually get something meaty. Lamb, steak, a burger even a pizza once and awhile and he's never been disappointed.
I can't even tell you how many I've been here but I also can't tell you how many times I'll be going back!
Love. -

I had heard such great reviews about 20 nine and was excited to give it a try. I visited last night for a late snack. I'm sorry to say but it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had.
When we arrived the hostess was very warm and helpful in getting us a place at the bar. However, once we sat down the trouble started there. The bartender was very short and not prepared to serve us. He was more concerned with making conversation with his "regulars" then welcoming us and taking our order. The bar was not stocked properly so he had to have someone go get him lime slices each drink we ordered. The food was delicious and if you do choose to visit order a pizza, amazing!
After we finished eating the bartender took our plates and my drink, which was still have full and threw it away. He failed to ask if we needed anything else and just dropped off our bill. We left without a "thank you" or "hope to see you again". I will never return. -

Lovely. This place is lovely.
Stopped into the Quarry after work with a friend of mine and we sat at the bar. We got there around 4:45ish....and we were the only people in there. Not gonna lie, a little skeptical.
Their wine menu is fruitful...plenty to choose from. They also have a "taster" if you will. I think they call it 'Around the World'. You can choose which one you want and they bring you 3 - 2oz glasses of those wines. Very well priced. I believe starting around $14 for each "World".
We ordered the hummus for an appi and its delicious. The bread they served it with was divine. Our bartender was darling and so sweet. We sipped our wine, ate our hummus and watching slowly as more and more people filled the restaurant. By the time we left around 6:30...it was PACKED! Skepticism be gone!
They have great paintings on their walls of all places all over the world they get their wine (hmm...irony to wine tasting?).
I would definitely recommend this place, great atmosphere, good service and fantabulous wines. Lovely.Listed in: San Antone

I've had pretty mediocre experiences here. I've been once when it was not busy and received uneven, mostly slow service at a table. I've been when it was really busy and received good service at the bar. I thought it was strange that the Groupon for 20 Nine could only be used on entrees, not sharing plates. When I eventually went back for dinner to use the Groupon, the steak was good, but not amazing. I haven't been back to 20 Nine since the first couple times I went because it's just not a standout to me.

Good food and a great wine selection. Our waitress, Chelsea, was wonderful and very knowledgeable about all the different wines and what they paired well with. I'll definitely revisit this place.

20 Nine is slowly becoming one of our staples here in San Antonio. The food is always consistent and the service is normally good. We had dinner there again last night and had a very pleasant experience. We started off with flights of Merlot and Cab, which were reasonably well put together, nothing too fancy but nothing totally unpalatable. My better half had the beet salad, which she loves and I had the fillet. Normally the two of us have very similar taste buds, but not when it comes to beets. I have tried the salad, it's not for me but she loves it. The filet on the other hand, was very well prepared, tender, moist, with plenty of flavor, the brussel sprouts melt in your mouth, but the polenta has just a little too much cheese. All in all not a bad place to spend an evening.

Yes, it's not quite the same as the Lobster Bisk but what a great glass(s) of wine they do serve. While priced like a good Alamo White joint typically is (yes I did go there) there are benefits to hanging out at this place aside from great wine.
The patio area is great on a spring day which by the time this review gets posted is as fond of a memory as $2/gallon gas.
The wine selection is also profound but a rotation on differing vinyards would be a nice change to the extended list of varieties that is offered in order to keep things new. The food is also good but nothing is really offered that is out of the ordinary nor spectacular.
Really it is more for the wine and thanks for not calling me out Jaime for hitting on a married woman. -
Review from Mark H.
A friend took me here when I was in San Antonio, and it was a lovely night that was perfect weather for sitting outside on the patio! It was on the late side (and they graciously let us stay even as they had officially closed), so I didn't eat, but my friend had a burger that looked scrumptious. Really. But besides that, I can't comment on the food.
It's the atmosphere - chill - that I liked, and the wine selection was a pleasant surprise to what I saw elsewhere in town. We had a pleasing and easy-to-drink Ferrari-Carano Zinfandel that was from '05, and the wonderful Kathryn Kennedy "Lateral" blend.
Would love to go back and eat something here sometime. Wine is best with food!
Oh and hey, we saw Eva Longoria and Tony Parker there too, though I had no idea who they were, of course. For what it's worth, they didn't know me either. :) -

Had another great experience here this evening. My girlfriend and I went over for a glass of wine and dessert after dinner.
She had the Riesling flight and I had a glass of Port. We shared a chocolate cake dessert that was huge and we couldn't even finish it.
They have a great happy hour from 4-7pm and all appetizers and wine is 25% off. There is an outdoor patio if you are into experiencing San Antonio's unforgivable humidity! I might try it in the fall...
Until next time... -

I was headed over this way to find the Whole Foods, and instead the first thing I saw when pulling into the shopping center was a sign proclaiming "Wine"! That was about all I needed to know.
Service was amazing. Our waiter was attentive and knowlegeable, and suggested quite a few things. He was paying attention to how slow I was eating, and waited to put some of our orders in so the food would time out well. Wonderful!
The food we had was good, and there were enough vegetarian things to keep me happy. They had a number of white and red flights, something for everyone.
I was quite a bit shocked when our bill came, I didn't realized how much the glasses of wine we had were, but it was worth it. -

The restaurant is very chic on the inside. The wine list is very extensive albeit slightly more expensive than at Max's Wine Dive across the street. I went on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the food had a wonderful taste to it except that it was just so salty that I couldn't fish it. My friend's dish, however, was perfectly fine. I did tell the waitress at the end of the meal and she said that the executive chef was off that night and gave us a gift card for a future visit. Since we have two Groupons for the place, I will be going back, but probably not on a holiday where most people aren't dining out.

I can't lie I really did like this place, it was dark and when I think of it. I'm reminded of Mormont restaurant in Philly, except without the old school rustic feel, obviously since this building is not a hundred years old. It has favorable romantic appeal if you believe in that sorta stuff, el oh el.
Nonetheless I was extremely happy with our food, I had the ribeye as always do, my amiga had the filet mignon although I don't think she was thrilled about the polenta. The asparagus was great on my dish so I win! Haha
We had a nice merlot bottle from Washington...can't exactly recall the name however Columbia was somewhere in the name... Hmm I'm sure the HEB( heeeee-B) has it at a low price, still it's never fair to compare restaurant prices to stores.
Overall the service was good it did take a long while to get our food and no complimentary dish was given on that note. However this isn't a really high end place but did have a high endish price. -
Review from Tasha B.
I came in from Austin for a fun weekend visiting with friends. We came here for reverse happy hour on Saturday night and sat on the patio to enjoy some wine and food. The mushroom pizza was very good, as was the prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Unfortunately, the calamari was dry and rubbery. Our server was very friendly, however when our check came we were charged full price for the happy hour items. It was sorted out for the most part, but there seemed to be a lot of confusion as to what the specials were. All and all, it was an okay experience.

When I first moved to San Antonio, my husband and I came here alot because the food was excellent, the ambiance is fantastic, and it's close to my home. At that time, they served lunch and dinner, both were scrumpous and the portions were huge (I was always able to eat everything on my plate it was so yummy!) As time went on,they stopped serving lunch and the dinner portions became smaller. We had gotten to know one of the waitresses well and she stated they were having some problems due to the economy plus it was summer so people were away on vacation. Unfortunately, it seems business did not improve. We have eaten here about 2 more times and neither time did we have a stellar meal. 29 is great for drinks, apps, or a wine tasting but I wouldn't suggest it for anything else.

We celebrated my hubby and his friend's last day of law school at 20nine. The atmosphere is surprisingly nice inside--warm and inviting despite being in a shopping center.
20nine offers nice wine tours, which allow you to taste three small pours of wine. I like that they even give you information about each wine. Not surprisingly, I liked the third and most expensive wine best so I ordered a glass. I am sure that is the point but it was fun to have a little of a lot. We also bought a bottle of champagne for the four of us. The waitress touted the "50% off sale" on all champagne, which actually only brought the prices down to a more reachable price point so I thought the discount was gimmicky. We shared a cheese plate, which was wonderful and plenty to share. I ordered the cheese lasagana and it was some of the best I've ever had. If I were basing my star rating on this dish alone, I'd give it five stars. My husband ordered the fig pizza and he thought it was just ho-hum. The food, overall, was really good, the drinks were great but the service wasn't on par with the restaurant. We mentioned that we were celebrating and the waitress never even offered so much as a "congratulations." I am always so amazed when the service sucks in nice places. Get the service together, add some pizzaz to the pizzas, and you will get your fifth star! -

I came for the wine, I stayed for the dessert. My BFF and I walked across the parking lot to 20 Nine after having dinner at a different restaurant in the Quarry. We had decided to get a few drinks and had never tried this place out, so in we went. The massive chandelier when you walk in makes you feel like you're walking into a super ritzy hotel bar. I have to hand it to them, the atmosphere is very nice. Dark woods, rich colors, muted lighting, that sort of thing. Anyway, we got something called a Road Trip, which is basically three different half glasses of three different kinds of wine. Really cool, because you can try a few out at time. Well, we decided to get dessert and ended up with butterscotch pudding and chocolate cake. The butterscotch pudding...oh em gee! Yum! The chocolate cake, however, a bit dry. The portion sizes on these were huge and we ended up taking some home with us. Cool atmosphere and I really liked that Road Trip thing. Too bad about the chocolate cake.

The location is great, the atmosphere could be better, the wine list is good, the bar could be better. It's a nice vision, but needs some focusing.
My main reason for giving this place 2 stars is because of the quality of the food. We were there as part of a party of 10 or so. Just about everything on the menu was ordered between the group. The calamari was good, the anti pasta was OK and the cheese plate was overpriced and so-so. Now for the main entrees; the duck was too salty, the rib-eyes and salmon were all overcooked and fatty and the tenderloin was undercooked and definitely not a prime cut of beef. The service needs improvement. Part of our party was served, then after a while, the rest, except for one, was served and just about the time everyone else was finishing up, the last person was served even though we all ordered at the same time. The servers make themselves too well seen, they constantly interrupted the conversation for one reason or another. The desserts were OK, but nothing to brag about. The cost for all of this so-so to bad food was far too much! I say skip this place and head to another restaurant in the Quarry unless you just want wine.
