Had three meals here over 3 days in November 2011.  Each time the staff was exceptional the food average to above average.  Please understand each time we were eating with younger folk and the staff couldn't have been more accomodating.

Prices are excellent for the city.  Food was tasty, delivered to our table quickly and all of our glasses were kept full.  When we were done the waitress was exceptional fast in getting us the check and change to her benefit, our benefit and the people waiting for tables benefit.  Very pleased with this location.

Only reviewing breakfast, but I've noshed on 2 West omelets 3 of the past 3 mornings, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert. If you're staying at the hotel, it's very convenient and I would recommend (esp if you booked a package that includes complimentary breakfast). 2 West is also the perfect place for a power breakfast - quiet, everyone in the dining room is either having a business meeting or reading the WSJ, and obviously anything Ritz Carlton is bound to impress. I would not, however, trek all the way to Battery Park if you're looking for the best breakfast in town.

    LOVE:
    - order your omelet as you like it (they even have egg whites with zucchini!)
    - delicious coffee
    - fresh OJ
    - quiet, relaxing and professional crowd
    - staff is beyond friendly and helpful

    NOT SO MUCH:
    -  brioche french toast not worth the calorie splurge (reminded me of the french toast sticks they mass produced at camp)
    - price point: I understand that when you're staying at a luxury hotel, you're forced to pay luxury hotel prices for breakfast, but I'd rather my $30 go toward breakfast at Norma's (see past review)

Huge disappointment for a Ritz restaurant.  We had never planned to eat here but did so as we were both ill at different points during our visit and didn't want to venture out in the cold.   My wife and I ate appetizers, a dessert, and several room service meals from this restaurant, and we were quite let down on nearly all occasions and items.  Clearly the weakest restaurant of any of the 5-6 Ritz Carlton's I have stayed at in the US and Japan.

The decor reminded me of a Las Vegas casino coffee shop, but the prices reminded me of a Ritz Carlton restaurant for sure!  Service was courteous and professional, no problems there. Our breakfasts were acceptable, our dessert was crappy, and we ordered pizzas which were simply pathetic and tasted like something from the Celeste / Gino's frozen pizza aisle (at $20+ each).  I did enjoy the chicken noodle soup (I had it twice) and my wife enjoyed the crab cake- thus saving this debacle from a dreaded 1 star.  My recommendation is do breakfast only, and avoid at all costs for other meals.

My friend and I had a very nice dinner at 2 West for Restaurant Week. My scallops were decent. We split braised short ribs that were delicious, but I wasn't crazy about the halibut with risotto. The lemon meringue tart I had for dessert was amazing. After the meal, we had to wait quite a while for the bill to be collected, but it wasn't a big deal at all.

If you're hiding something - dating someone with a significant other, shoplifting, robbing a bank, escaping your nasty uncle in town who may bump into you, on the run from Belgian police, etc. - this is the place for you. I really hope nobody is on the run from cops while eating here. I'm joking. But my point is, there is not a soul around in this part of town. Or as Al Roker says, the neck of the woods. What Manhattan? Where? You won't know you are in NYC here! So come on, roll out of bed, brush your teeth, and eat here with your friends! Take the silly neighbor kids for omelets! Or um, mistress. Whichever. ;)

Splurging on egg calories every blue moon won't kill a girl watching her diet. The French toast is pretty good. As expected, everyone follows commands, so if you demand an ox to deliver your newspaper as you snack on the French toast, while Michael Bublé sings songs beside the table, I'm sure they can arrange it. It IS the Ritz brand. However, you will be perfectly happy with the dining service.

Don't ask me about the soup. I have no idea, since I don't eat poultry. I personally think it's more exciting to flop on the other side of town for breakfast as opposed to the been there, done that looking lunch and dinner menu. I don't really have an appreciation for meats for obvious reasons. I suppose on a cheat day I could swallow the lobster bisque, but they have plenty of that in more convenient locations. Anyway, enjoy the breakfast. I told you so.

My coworkers and I came to this restaurant inside the Ritz Carlton hotel for a luncheon workshop.  They arranged a special prix-fixed 3-course menu for us, which was quite affordable, and the menu choices were very well selected though limited.

If you want to impress your clients or reward your employees, bring them here!  This place is an excellent choice for business lunch:
+ Service was professional and prompt
+ Decoration was elegant and grand
+ Environment was quiet and seating was comfortable
+ Food was no doubt delicious.  I loved loved my chicken noodle soup, skirt steak and the plum tart!  Their steak was made to the perfection in terms of succulence and taste, way better than the steak at Capital Grille!

It might be too pricey for individual's out-of-pocket dining... I so wish we could come over here more often for company meeting or any corporate events.

I call this the Ritz Carlton, not 2 West.  It just sounds classier. haha.

I was here for Restaurant Week so I did not get the FULL menu exposure.  But it is definitely very high-end and the entire atmosphere is very posh.  You may not feel comfy wearing jeans to this place.  But if you want to take a date out to this place - make sure the person is not a golddigger.  I'm only kidding, this is like the daddy or one of the daddies in superior dining.  I think you get the gist of what I mean.

I ordered the hangar steak and it was alright.  The service is what stood out the most..constantly checking on you and talking like if you needed the 'pardon me, do you have any grey poupon' type of attitude.  But overall, it is very nice!  I would want to come here again, but I rather depict true nature of what this place is. Maybe the Ritz brand already says it all.  Either way, it is very enjoyable.

Also, this is not easy to find.  it is actually inside a bldg and remember getting lost.  Try to do advance research.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of this place, but I did enjoy my experience here.

Came here for Restaurant Week and we started off with a couple of drinks.  Of course, I have nothing to complain about top shelf liquor and their parmesan truffle fries are so, so good.  My friend and I were debating between sharing the fries or the lobster bisque, which I'm sure would've been equally as delicious.

Dinner was okay, just a normal comfortable setting with a traditional New American menu.  I asked for the cheesecake and they brought me the seven layer chocolate cake, boo.  But other than that, service was prompt and on point.

Wow, really a let down for a Ritz restaurant. First of all it LOOKS outdated and not at all what I expected of such a classy hotel.
I was here for restaurant week so maybe they weren't on top of their A-game but they made really rookie mistakes. For example.. they mixed up the greens on our salads (arugula vs mixed greens) and the dressings. We sent them back and they still didn't do them correctly but we were beyond complaining.
The entrees were also just average, sadly. They did comp a glass of wine for each of us for messing up our orders but it didn't quite make up for the experience. If i had been on a date, I would have been quite embarrassed by this restaurant.

Gone down hill.  I haven't been here in a while and I think the restaurant has definitely gone down hill.  First of all, the steaks aren't nearly as good as before and the lack of a saucier took away most of the fun.

The only dishes that are decent are the lobster bisque, short rib and truffle fries.  Everything else, especially the pastas were a big miss.  Plus the place is SUPER expensive even though they actually lowered the prices recently.

Obviously it's a high-end hotel restaurant, so the food is good, however the menu is extremely limited. Service is good. Bartenders are good. Location is perfect if you're looking for the quieter- as suburban as manhattan gets- type of place.

We do dine here frequently as it is the only good restaurant in proximity.

FROM THE VIEW OF A VEGETARIAN.... at a steakhouse

for vegetarians.... ugh-- this place sucks royally. I'd rather just head up north to pomme frites and fill up on calorific, delicious, oily fries with wasabi sauce.
Is there a possibility for less than one star?? because this place deserves it (for the non existent veg options) how can you be such a classy expensive joint and not have any options? vegetarians gotta eat too! =(

there was literally nothing I could eat on the entrees section on the menu. I had to ask the waiter to request something special just for me. I told the waiter to please ask the chef to come up with something creative, spicy and completely vegetarian.
    what did i get?
    =(
i got a risotto that had these frozen veggie cut styled veggies (k'mon, we all know what they look like! the carrot bits, peas and string bean combo)

the flavor... well, the risotto was good. it was well made. however, dude... if you're a chef and you can whip up anything you wanted (veg limitations of course), anything you've been creatively dreaming up and so forth.... how on earth can you just put on this blanket-generic-screen-saverish meal?? i expected more from the chef...
    (and it wasnt spicy)

now, i don't know how much my meal costed as i was treated that night... but whatever the cost was, i'm going to say HANDS DOWN, its too expensive for what it was worth.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT (for veg people of course. i heard great and fantastic things from my meat eating dinner mates)

instead, vegetarians should just stick to the appetizer salads, desserts and booze. now THOSE deserved a crap load of stars.

Lunch time. Ordered 2 iced teas, a cup of french onion soup, a bowl of lobster bisque and 2 lobster Cobb salads.

I normally don't write about drinks as they're nothing special but I was impressed with the iced teas. The tea was very good! It came with a sugar cane "stirrer," and liquid sugar which was a thoughtful touch. How many times have you been irritated by having tea with a sea of sugar at the bottom of your glass that just won't melt?

The soups were very good. They came in two sizes of Staub pots. The french onion was very traditional with gruyere melted on top, sweet caramelized onions & a perfectly seasoned beef broth. The bowl of lobster bisque was huge! Delicious with chunks of lobster claw meat, and what actually looked like pieces of sun dried tomato.  Sounds strange for a lobster bisque but it tasted like your traditional bisque with a good amount of lobster meat in it. Yummy!

The lobster cobb salads were excellent! It was a cute variation of your traditional Cobb. We were expecting a large salad with a little bit of lobster mixed in. What we got was a small salad with a lot of lobster! The salad was a small amount of Bibb lettuce tossed in a buttermilk ranch dressing. It was topped with crispy slivers of turkey bacon, and a few hard boiled quail eggs. There were some avocado slices on the side. The amazing part was the lobster....an entire lobster tail sliced into smaller sections. It was perfectly cooked and tasted like it was poached in butter. So good!

The servers were all very nice. They did a great job and made sure our drinks were always filled, and we had everything we needed.

The only bad part of the meal was the hostess SUCKED. No personality, wasn't nice, didn't crack even the slightest smile. Acted like she was being put out by having to seat us. You might not care, and it didn't directly affect our meal. However, considering the Ritz-Carlton prides itself on service, we deducted a star for her stick in the butt attitude. She gets a big BOO!

Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful hotel.

The food was magnificent. The service was excellent. In fact, I was looking for the restroom and one of the servers actually walked me halfway there because the restrooms were outside the restaurant and next to the elevators.

This place has a great atmosphere for drinks if you happen to be in the area for a night cap or happy hour.

Pricey alert. Very pricey... mac and cheese at that price? Pricey alert.

O man.. their mac n cheese is heaven sent. When it comes to mac n cheese, I am very very picky considering I had a roommate in college who made the best comfort style mac n cheese that my mouth waters every time I know I am about to eat it. However, after trying the mac n cheese at this Ritz location, I fell in love.... hard. It was a perfect compliment to my Bone In Steak!

As for the steak, I loved it! I'd have to go back to make sure it is just as good as I remembered because to tell you the truth, I remember the mac n cheese more than anything. I wanted to finish my cousin's mac n cheese but I didn't want to seem like a fat ass. DEFINITELY regret it!

I also tried the tuna tartare, crab cake, and lobster bisque... all so deliciously divine! 2 West is the kind of place you want to go to when you want to impress someone - and go all out or you're missing out!

For what this is supposed to be, this really isn't that great. I had a full soup, entree and dessert, and while I don't know how much it cost because I was treated, I do know it does not compare to any other place with which it is trying to be on par. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was honestly the best part of the meal. There were actual large pieces of lobster and a good hearty flavor. My entree was the short rib. While it tasted good, it was basically just one very fatty soft piece of meat. The meat itself was great, soft, good cut. However, there was nothing special about the taste of the rest of it. I liked the little carrots that came with it, it could have had more for better balance. The mashed potatoes were just a giant scoop of thick fat. However, it totally spoke to my primal need for fatty carbs. Finally - the worst tiramisu ever. It was like they dumped cups of sugar and covered it with light whipped cream, and thought that would taste better than the classic.
Why I gave this place 3 stars rather than 2 - the drinks! Great cocktails, and interesting ones too! Strong, but doesn't taste like harsh alcohol.
I know this place is pricey, and the decor is good, but the food is just not that great. Save your cash - let's just get a cheap box of chicken from Popeyes and call it a night.

I treated my good friend here for dinner once. Ok actually very good friend or else why would I spend over $200 on food. This place rocks. They have a sommelier who provides suggestions on wine that will compliment your meal.  I had the filet mignon and he had the tuna.  This is not for the faint of heart. Please do not waste your taste buds if your idea of fine dining is Applebee's (and there's nothing wrong with A-bee's). The place is quiet, well appointed and a great spot for impressing clients, a romantic evening with your significant other or a celebrating a milestone or birthday.
