OK, I've been to this place enough to say with certainty that I've given them ample chance to shine. It hasn't happened.  I thought with some time and effort (it's been a while since I visited) they might really pop up and impress me at some point, but I always come away scratching my head and wondering what just happened to my money and my taste buds.

Start with the bread.  Tough. Dry. Not just unimpressive, UNDERimpressive. OK, just bad. Vinegar dipping sauce will take your breath away, and not in a good way.

Move on to the gouda fritters. Not horrid. Turned out "not horrid" was the highlight of the meal.

Entree was the special - amberjack with a citrus cream sauce. Sides were grits and asparagus. Meh. Not interesting. Just. Not.

Wine list wasn't dimestore, they generally have a half-decent selection - had one unoaked chard (but I wasn't impressed enough to note the name for posterity) and a pinot grigio which also wasn't bad but wasn't outstanding.

Passed on dessert - always the same and never great (no, dude, not even that peanut butter pie you're so fond of, c'mon, really??)

Bill was around 80 bucks for 2 people, 1 app, 1 entree & 2 glasses of wine each.

I think 2 Dog is now officially a Dead Dog in my book.

    Sorry Loves.

PS: best bet? patio is nice when the weather is good - go for a drink and an app to hold you over until you get to somewhere stellar, which won't be in Gainesvegas. Just sayin.

I want to love this restaurant but food is hit or miss and service is more miss than hit. I appreciate the move toward serving local/in season food. I want to support this and many times the food is just yummy. Unlike another reviewer, I happen to love the peanut butter pie. But the black bean soup is an undressed mess and tastes like it was poured from a can and heated up. And the service (one server in particular) tends toward impersonable, slow and absent for refills on your tea or needing the check. More than once I've had to go up to the cashier and tell them what we had. And one time I was accused of trying not to pay for dessert when actually we were never given the dessert we ordered, got tired of waiting and went up to pay. I was then made to prove we didn't receive it and our server (the one mentioned above) couldn't remember if she had given it to us or not. If I wasn't so commited to support local businesses (especially restaurants that serve fresh/local produce) that one incident would keep me from ever returning and I would have given it zero stars.

Had lunch at Two Dog, and decided to try just veggies....Well not just veggies, but I have the brown rice with beef and onions, fresh tomatoes with spinach, hand cut fries. Great, even on the simplest things. Fresh grown everything could not ask for anything better.

Having to leave the Atlanta area for an appointment in Gainesville, GA excited me because I researched the restaurant scene in this small, but food filled town. The downtown area is packed with eateries but I narrowed it down to one- 2 Dog Restaurant. It's commitment to serving locally farmed ingredients and an ever changing menu intrigued me as did a number of reviews I read ahead of time.

We arrived in the midst of the lunch rush, but that didn't set back the staff of veterans. Immediately after being seated, I directed my attention to the menu- and more specifically the daily specials. Bam! First one of the list is a winner- Chicken Caesar Flatbread served with a side. The list of daily sides was so extravagant, separated into hot and cold categories. My conscious directed me towards a lighter option- black bean soup, but my gut really wanted to go for the spicy pasta salad with salmon and sunflower seeds (next time). While waiting for the meal, I was able to take in the setting within the walls of this antique house turned restaurant. The homey feel was paired with artsy décor, my favorite part being the wine cork covered wall. I also can't go without mentioning how great their ice is. It may sound silly, but the pellet shaped ice made my diet coke extra refreshing.

Ding!! The kitchen's desk bell rings and out comes the meal. The flatbread was excellent- the actual bread is perfectly homemade, soft with a crispy edge and a light char. The dressing was light and used sparingly, but just enough. And the shredded, grilled chicken breast completed the combination of flavors. I loved every bite of the dish and only left some of the black bean soup behind- the Cuban in me wasn't so enthused with its blandness.

If I were to open a restaurant, I would love for it to be a scaled down version of 2 Dog- serving a menu full of creative dishes, fresh ingredients, and very reasonable prices. Owner/chef Tim Roberts is an inspiration, being that he is a self taught cook, dedicated to the patrons and community of his hometown.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Gainesville. I go for lunch, with friends or to take clients. I usually have the black bean soup (a staple side item). I love the mushroom and red pepper sandwich with added roasted chicken. The rosa is excellent, as well as 'The Meal' is a great dish especially in the winter (brown rice, feta, black beans). Just a unique, local place that is always fresh and has a variety of sides everyday. The now servce brunch on Sundays - I can't wait to go! I have only been to dinner there once, and it was great - it was for Valentine's and it was a 5 course meal that was amazing. An absolute must if you are in Gainesville you should go by.

I've done lunch and dinner here and the food is always excellent. I've done the "3 sides plate" and a (if memory serves) spinach, feta(?) quesadilla with  black beans. The jambalaya is good. The grilled asparagus is awesome. Overall the food is healthy and there are a number of vegetarian dishes as well. The menu changes frequently so you'll never get bored. They have a good wine selection as well. I've always had good service. The only thing they need is a bigger building!

Delicious lunch!! Tomato basil soup was fantastic, and the spinach quiche was wonderful, accented with just the right amount of artichoke. Very cute place with a nice feel about it. Desserts were a little expensive, but everything else was great quality for the price.

Nice drive up to Gainesville. Beautiful weather.

The restaurant was nice. Staff, very nice. Good food and drinks but way overpriced for Gainesville. $9 burger... seriously? in Gainesville?

Guess for our next get-away daytrip we'll need to venture a little further into the "sticks" to get "normal" pricing rather than upscale Atlanta pricing.

This is a really fun restaurant.  Went with a big group and had a bunch of different appetizers and desserts.  All were great.  Chicken PIccata main course was great.  Good wines, reasonable price, friendly service.  It's not quiet place (wood floors are pretty but make for a noisy environment).  As long as that fits your plans you will love it.

I went here for the first time this weekend. I was visiting from miami and looking for some place local, and unique to have lunch. I got on my yelp app and, seeing all the positive reviews, chose 2 Dog. Wow! This place did not disappoint! I had the French Pig sandwich which was delicious, and the white cheddar grits were amazing!! I know where I'll be having lunch the next time I'm in the area!

2 Dog is located in downtown Gainesville, Georgia. They are open for lunch from 11 to 3 and dinner is served from 5 to 10. 2 Dog offer a home town feel but has a very unique menu. 2 Dog open over 12 years ago with the concept that the fresher the food the better it is so the make all of their breads, deserts in house. They also offer up fresh poultry, beef and fish and all sausages and steaks a cut in house. One of my personal favorites was the Pan Seared New Zealand Lamb Chops served with a dijon cream sauce and your choice of 2 sides. Their sides chanhe daily but two of my favorites are the black beans soup and the Yellow Cheddar Mac'n Cheese. The Spinach & Walnut Salad is great and is served with spinach topped with bacon, bleu cheese, walnuts & raspberry vinaigrette.

I always enjoy 2Dog's consistency - fresh vegetables, fish, and choice cuts of meat. The dishes are prepared as advertised on the menu. Service is impeccable and most servers have worked there for more than five years. I have never had a bad meal at 2Dog.

Oh how I wish this place were closer to Atlanta.  If you're going to Gainesville for anything at all eat here.  I love this place.  I would be in there every weekend if it were in midtown.  The food is always fresh, the staff is cool, the wines are excellent, the atmosphere is dressy laid back if there is such a thing.  I ate every crumb on my plate and then managed to suck down an entire, made on the premises, dessert with a wine paired perfectly.  So good.

I love 2 Dog! It's a great local place with good food and great wine. I love the ability to "create my own" dish and the grits with alfredo sauce is amazing. Also, I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Pie for dessert.

I have eaten here a few times and some meals were better than others.  Had the steak and seafood shish ka bob last time- not much flavor and not much food for the price.  Probably won't go back- there are better values in town, even for higher end restaurants.
