I love Il Bistro. I love it on a 1st date. I love it after work. I love it late night talking w/ best friends in the bar.
My favorite is to hang out in the bar, sharing an appetizer and having some wine the bartenders have suggested. They are so friendly, and will offer up some amazing cocktails to you. Even though it is tucked right below where they throw around the fish at the Market, it is definitely not a touristy-type place. Go with your friends and enjoy a little secret spot & then head out to have a cocktail at the Alibi Room. Perfect evening!

What a find! The boyfriend and I went here for our monthly "make sure we make it a date" night. This had all of the ambiance and coziness we were looking for! To begin with, I love the bistro-style restaurant. However, the way in which you enter this restaurant in itself, seems somewhat hidden and romantic. A must-taste is the beef carpaccio (served as a antipasti). The slices of meat are cut so thinly and delicately, they almost melt in your mouth--the way it should be! There is a variety of wines that top off this sort of dining experience as well. It is definitely a place we will be coming back to often!
Il Bistro is hands down one of my favorite HH places. I've never actually eaten a regular dinner there. The HH food is so good, why ruin it by trying to get fancy?
The atmosphere is one of the best around. Since it's tucked away in the corner of the market, it is quiet and cozy. Very welcoming and comfortable.
The ravioli with the fennel cream sauce is to die for. I'm usually with a few friends and we always get 2 orders of it. The lasagna is fantastic. Moist and creamy, mmmm it just melts away on your tastbuds.
If you are in Seattle or have friends visiting, when you take the tour through the market, plan to have some outstanding food and drinks at Il Bistro. You won't regret it. If you live in Seattle and you haven't been there you are seriously missing out.

Very very easy to miss this place.
Located under the Pike Market, this place reminds you of the place italaian gangster used to meet in the 40s.
Cobbled street with a incline gives u a mysterious feel.
For the food, I tried their Roasted Duck. I think it was pretty good. My friend tried their Special of the night which was something in Chicken.
Wont mind to go there again.
Let me end it by saying that the place is a little pricey. Cant be your casual dining place.
Rarely do I give a place this high of an honor (food snobs would agree), but it deserves it for many reasons. Upon entrance Il Bistro had an immediate positive energy. The wait staff were polite and unstuffy and the owner was extremely helpful to my girlfriend who was having a hard time finding the place. The hidden location and fantastic atmosphere made it feel like you walked in off a Tuscan cobbled road (in this case just below a major Seattle icon - Pike's Place Market). The other diners seemed to be having an equally great time. And the food... AAA++++!!! Best damn roasted chicken ever, cooked to perfection! I can't wait to come back here again and try the other dishes. This is a perfect place for any occasion, although I would recommend leaving the kids behind.

Most amazing cheese raviolli I've ever had!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's a very romantic little spot!
This place is a little hidden gem. Went last night and got a great table. Mussels were incredible. Service was impeccable. Rigatoni was delectable. The bar looks like something out of a 1940's movie. They have 3 or 4 cozy tables for two just outside the windows terracing down the slope of the sidewalk. These would be awesome when the weather gets a little warmer. Check it out. We're going back. Perfect for out of town guests. Show them the market then treat them to a place that is anything but tourist.

You have got to respect that this place is in the market, which is frankly, why we happened in. Just had never been, always walked by. I actually repeated that story to the owner as we conversed at the bar. The place has got a great feel. I was concerned that it would feel all touristy and the like, but not so.
We sat at the bar sampling the scotches and enjoying the, frankly, perfect Manhattan's waiting out the late night happy hour (11pm on the weekend, 10pm weekdays, as well as 5p to 6:30p), for really cheap but really good Italian tastes. Great look to it as well, cold but cosy.
If you've never been, stop in, you'll be glad you did. Good for 4 or less though, at least in the bar, not much space for a big group.

I love this place.
Located deep in a tourist district it is a locals only spot that somehow is able to be ignored by the masses.
Great Bar, wonderfully romantic and the food is superb.
Wonderfully cozy evening out. The Sopressata salad was an incredibly fresh and delicious mix of shaved fennel, apple, micro greens, and a white balsamic vinegar dressing. It came with toasted french bread topped with melted goat cheese...yum.
I finished with the pear and Gorgonzola ravioli. Another hit. I didn't even want to grab a mint from the host stand on the way out. I wanted to let the flavors linger for as long as possible!
I'd love to go back! (hint, hint)

What a great bar! I love the late night happy hour- excellent food for cheap prices and a great scotch selection. The first time I went in, the bartender was top notch in recommending a single malt that I, a self-proclaimed novice, could enjoy and appreciate. The scene is busy, but relaxed- very unlike belltown in it's clientele- chill, easygoing people. It has great lighting and great blues playing not too loud (i hate not being able to communicate in a bar). However, I wouldn't go there on a Thursday unless you only care to hear salsa music and put up with a lot of pretentious dancers who seem to own the place. I've never been in early enough to dine in the actual restaurant, but I plan to sometime (I'm kinda a night owl).
**Try the lasagna. It's amazing!

A great night out!
It's always exciting to find a new place in town that just does it right. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food immensely. The carbonara that I had was perfect. One of my friend's got the scallops and we all agreed that they were excellent. The dessert was also fantastic. The highlight of which was the tiramisu. Definitely something you should try when you go there.
The only complaint we had was that we were seated right near the door, so the draft that crept in was cooled us down a few too many times.
All in all, someplace we will definitely go back to again and hopefully soon.

Go on Thursday night for some rad Salsa! You don't have to dance and it's real fun to watch. Watch your nose, those heels kick high!
Love the food, atmosphere, and wine. They don't turn people away at the door for dressing down a bit which I greatly appreciate and the staff is pro. I want to be comfortable AND eat good food.
It isn't cheap, but is great for a special occasion.

Great figuratively ILL place to dine. The ambiance encompasses the character of the market with a touch of Italian romance. If you need a date place, look no further. Your date will think your ILLin and a castlehova.
The food is great. I love the veal Lasagna and the gnocchi. The mean Manhattan was a perfect compliment. Maybe next payday I can upgrade to an Entree'.
Disclosure - Don't expect olive oil and vinegar with your bread.

Tucked away underneath the bustling Pike's Place Market, Il Bistro is a romantic Italian-inspired restaurant that exudes warmth and charm. It is a hidden gem admist all of the touristy activities in Downtown.
I found Il Bistro via opentable.com, where I made reservations for a late night dinner. As out of towners celebrating Christmas away from home, Il Bistro really was a cozy place to sit and enjoy the evening with the one who I love.
The menu offers many of the Italian staples (bruchetta, calimari, pasta, meat, poultry...), but also many of the dishes on the menu are SEAFOOD based. The ingredients are FRESH and the preparation of the food is excellent.
For starters, the boyfriend and I shared the Bruchetta appetizer. There were fresh tomato, parsley, onion and olive oil piled on top of fresh, grilled bread.
For my main course, I ordered the rigatoni bolognese (with lamb and veal ragu). The boyfriend ordered the lasagne. On the whole, I was pleased with my meal. It was simple, the flavors were on point and the bolognese, very tasty.
As for dessert, the boyfriend ordered he torta marscapone, while I chose the panna cotta and some coffee. The panna cotta was good. The coffee that I ordered to wash it down was even better.
The bill came to about $72, which did not include tip, but did include a glass of wine (Chianti Classico) with the shared appetizer and two main dishes mentioned above.
We were very pleased with the food and the friendliness of the matre d'. Unfortunately there were a few things that I do feel detracted from a 5 star rating:
1) We made reservations for 9PM, arrived on time and then, were forced to wait until 9:15 PM to be seated.
2) The server was quite brusque. Perhaps, he wished to give off a professional vibe...or maybe he was tired and cranky from working on a holiday. Either way, it came off as unfriendly and not very approachable. As a result, the tip was MUCH less than it could have been.

I am sorry, but this place is nothing special. I enjoy a fine meal out, and was really looking forward to trying this place. It has a cool location under pike market which seems hidden from the tourist traps above. I feel like this place could be really good. The pastas were bland, luke warm, and expensive. I got quail and it was try as wood and virtually flavorless. Wine was not great, even though our waiter recommended it saying it was his favorite. Not going back.. try union or zoe if your looking for a fine meal downtown.

I agree with a majority of the previous posters. My husband and I were looking for a romantic getaway (and a night away from the kid!) and we found it here. We've lived in for Seattle for ages and somehow managed to overlook this gem the whole time. We had lovely wine and and food and it was a fabulous grown-up evening.

New Years Eve Dinner = Not a good idea... let me tell you why.
New Years Eve, my boyfriend and I made reservations to enjoy their prefix menu for a fee of around $85 a piece... If I'm going to pay that much for a meal, I expect to have great service to match...
The entire process for New Years dinner was incredibly disorganized to begin with. We had reservations for 8pm, but we weren't seated until about 9:15. On a night where you have to be somewhere by a certain time, that should be a sensative issue.
By the time we were seated, the meal itself was good, but it took SO LONG for us to get each dish... the whole dinner took nearly 2 hours to eat. Are you serious??? I realize that they have a lot of people to accomodate (which they really dont because the dining room isnt that big), but on a night where things are time sensative, time management should be AT LEAST a consideration. Perhaps they should warn customers before hand rather than letting it be an annoying surprise.
Don't go here for New Years Eve if you have plans...

Always a good evening out. Usually head straight to the bar with friends and let the eating and drinking begin. Usually end up ordering a couple rounds of flatliners after dining on their carpaccio. It's a great place to hang out, even with your sweetie.

Very romantic. Tucked away in the Pike Place Market near Rachel the Pig.
The Osso Bucco was D'lish, perhaps the best I've had - and I've had a lot. The serving was large for $24 and when it arrived my first thought was to eat half and save the remainder for lunch. Half way through I decided this was a bad idea; I would savor the moment and let it all melt in my mouth. My companions had the pear and Gorgonzola ravili and pronounced it a winner!
I hope to go back soon. Maybe if it snows tonight?
Ambience! Although the cave-like space under Pike Place Market can get a bit loud (the last time I was there, some middle-aged woman two tables away was reliving her drunken youth-- LOUDLY), the lighting and decor is enough to set the mood for amore. So far the food has been wonderful. The only time I was disappointed is when I ordered pan-seared scallops on special, which were not seared and served cold... garnished with sand. wtf. For a pasta course, I adore the pear-gorgonzola ravioli in brown butter sauce. You just have to try it.
Make sure you go to their website and sign up for their mailing lists-- last September my boyfriend got a coupon for his birthday. Huzzah!

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service
As first time visitors to Seattle we were sooooo pleased to dine there on our first night. We were a bit skeptical because it is so close to Pike's Market.
Started with the Carpacchio. It was excellent. Enjoyed the sweet corn risotto and grilled pork loin. I was pleasantly surprised to find the pork cooked medium. Most places would grill it well until it was dry.
Finished with a wonderful tiramisu. All around great meal, great service.

Five stars for the brilliant one-two punch of Rick behind the bar making super dry, super cold Stoli martinis and Iris delivering them without a spill, and with a big helping of good cheer! Great place to wind down after a rough day at work. I'd dock them a star for always having Sade playing on the stereo, but, hey--where else are you going to hear Sade these days?

My wife and I have always considered the ambiance at Il Bistro to be cozy and romantic. That is until we had an encounter with one extremely rude, boorish manager. We even tried to provide feedback via Email but no email we tried would even go through so I'll provide my feedback here by copying the email I composed here.
-------------------------------------------------- --------------
The text below (which references a previous email sent by my wife, is from an email sent 12/13/07, the actual incident happened sometime in late October/early November.
-------------------------------------------------- --------------
The food has always been adequate enough to keep coming back every once in a while, especially given the ambiance. My wife loves the Linguine Sardegna dish and we have spent many of her birthdays at Il Bistro solely due to this dish.
However, the incident my wife is referring to removed Il Bistro from our list of restaurant considerations. We were charged $4 for a side of grated Parmagiano Reggiano which in and of itself is not a big deal. If you want to charge for sides that's fine, the issue here is that we were not told it was $4 for a side when we ordered it and it was not on the menu as such either. We expressed this our waitress and she was GREAT, very understanding and willing to remove the charge. We told her we did not want that but just wanted to make her aware that customers should know they are being charged for something they usually get for free in a restaurant. We've been to quite a few of the italian restaurants in Seattle and have never been charged for Parm.
Without asking, the manager came over to talk to us, which is where the real issue begins. We were trying to tell him exactly what we told the waitress but he interrupted us, then proceeded to tell us about how the chef only chooses the best cheese and that the kitchen will not give out sides unless it's rung into the system. He made comments about how other restaurants use inferior cheese and that's how they get away with not charging for it. We kept trying to tell him that we didn't care about being charged, just that customers should be aware of a $4 charge for something that is typically free. He was not responsive at all to what we had to say and kept interrupting saying that he'd remove the charge...despite our protests to the contrary. His whole demeanor was condescending and he acted like a martyr when saying he would remove the charge, like he was doing us a huge favor. In fact, he pulled the bill out of the folding check holder and ripped it up in dramatic fashion.
The manager needs to take a cue from the wait staff and be more attentive to what the customer has to say. Had he politely listened to our comments like a civilized human being instead of interrupting to offer arrogant rationalizations you might still have us as an occasional customer.
The bottom line is that the experience completely tainted our view of your restaurant. You really need to scrutinize your staff to ensure that they are representing your restaurant appropriately. If you want to be represented as being better than your customers, then you have a serious problem on your hands. Your food is not good enough to overcome such a black spot. I'll gladly continue to frequent Osteria La Spiga, Salvatore, La Fontana, Volterra, Assaggio, Cafe Lago, Serafina, The Pink Door to name a few (none of which have ever charged us for extra cheese).
We will never recommend your restaurant to anyone. We will tell anyone who asks about this miserable experience. Last but certainly not least, we will NEVER come back to Il Bistro.

after eight months, the boy finally came home from business abroad. we had to celebrate and i chose this cozy place.
dropped off the boy (so we wouldn't lose our reservations) as i circled around and around to park that damn excursion. 15 minutes later, i find out they had a valet service. thank goodness i'm a patient woman.
the scallops were a perfect appetizer. enough for the both of us and perfectly cooked.
he ordered the osso bucco and it was heavenly! the meat just slid off the bone! it came w/vegetables but to tell you the truth, i don't remember what types. i also don't even remember what i ordered! his dish was THAT good!!! that or i'm just getting too old and remembering a dish 3.5 months ago is a bit straining for me. but really, that was a memorable dish.
the service was great! our server was the one that suggested the appetizer and the osso bucco so kudos to you sir! you've done well!
Wow: So good.
Visited Il Bistro for the first time this past weekend with my girlfriend and it didn't disappoint. You could definitely walk by it from the outside without noticing (look for the yellow neon sign below street level down the driveway by Theatersports) but the inside is cozy and well laid out.
Service was great from the host at the door who showed us to our table to our waitress who was very friendly and made some great recommendations for both food and wine. Appetizers were delicious but it was the pear and gorgonzola ravioli entree my girlfriend ordered that blew me away. The green beans that came with my steak were cooked well, still slightly crunchy and very fresh, and the roasted baby potatoes were great. The steak itself was also nice but given everything else I would have been more surprised if it wasn't. We didn't stay for dessert (so full) but were pretty tempted to based on the dessert menu.
Overall a great experience that I would definitely recommend, the worst part was trying to decide between all the amazing sounding things on the menu.

Il Bistro was an amazing restaurant that I highly recommend! We went here for our 11th anniversary because we love Italian food and it was voted Most Romantic Restaurant by Seattle Weekly. We got to the restaurant about half an hour before our reservation (note: you can request a secluded corner table when you make your reservation online) for the happy hour from 5-6:30. The house wine was only $5/glass and was so good that we each had two glasses. Since we were enjoying happy hour so much, we asked the host if we could push back our reservation by half an hour and he kindly granted our request. Before we were sat, the host took both of our coats (and our umbrella) and took us to our corner table, which was key because the restaurant got really crowded. The candle light and fresh gerber daisies added nice touches to the table, and now the best part...the food!
For appetizers we split the calamari, which was amazing and went really well with the bread they brought to the table (and refilled without us even requesting it). My boyfriend got the caesar salad and I got the salad with goat cheese, which were both outstanding. Since we ordered salads and an appetizer, we each ordered pasta dishes...I got the penne bolognese and he got the lasagna. Both dishes were piping hot and delicious (and we are Italian foodies, spent 20 days eating our way through Italy last fall!). By the time we were finished we had no room for dessert and our tummies were aching from eating so much. Best meal we had in Seattle!
Delicious, romantic, and reasonably priced. Service is always good and I have never had a bad meal here.
Filet with peppercorn sauce, goat cheese bruschetta, butternut squash and blood orange soup, spinach ravioli, scallops - all fantastic. Wine list is good and they have happy hour too.
If you sign up for thier emails they send coupons for 15% off sometimes.

I finally got to go here for my birthday last year after years of walking by the red lit dining room just passing through the market or checking out Theatersports. We tried one of every course, from appetizers to desert and everything was absolutely delicious. I've never been to Italy (yet) so I can honestly say that this is the best Italian food I've ever had. The amount of garlic on the prawn appetizer was overpowering and perfect, the reduction served with the veal balanced both the meat and the caper berries excellently. The kicker is the flour less chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and a little bit of cream. If that isn't the best cake I've ever had I don't know what is.
The wait staff is really nice and did a great job explaining things on the menu, especially the extensive wine selection. I've been back since that night and tried the veal lasagna which was equally as good. You really can't go wrong here. The ambiance certainly has a certain je ne sais quoi: its quite simple with lots of white and wooden chairs but when the sun goes down and the smells are in the air there's nothing better.

The food is alright. Nothing to write home about but the location is absolutely enchanting. It embodies the romantic atmosphere that Seattle has to offer if you look hard enough. Nestled in Pike Place Market right under the "fish-throwing" corner, an Italian restaurant exists, featured in many movies, offering ambiance and class lost in so many places these days.
I recommend this as your starting point for the evening. Escort your friends to the bar and enjoy their fine selection of wines and spirits at the well positioned bar. Talk, laugh, drink, then when hunger has set, pay your bill and head elsewhere. If you've done more drinking than talking or laughing, stay and enjoy Il Bistro's array of Tuscan offerings.

If you blink, you might miss it. It's situated under Pike Place Market, but once you step inside, you're transported to Italy. The ceilings are low and glowing red from candlelight. Great selection of wine and other spirits. Servers are polite and allow plenty of time to enjoy each course. The food is rich and portions are large, so expect to take home. By far, one of the most romantic spots in Seattle.

The ambiance is great--romantic and quiet and comfy. The only thing that bothered me was that the candle on the table was in the same type of glass as our water glasses. The food was great--though my lasagna was burned on the bottom and one side, it still tasted incredible and it was a huge portion. It is definitely upscale when it comes to the prices.
I went in on a Sunday night a few hours after they opened. if you come at this time hope that the phone rings; otherwise you won't see the host for a very long time. Maybe whip out your cell and give them a call. (They weren't even busy so it was kind of lame to just stand there with an empty dining room before you.) However, the waiter was very attentive and our water glasses were always full.
If you have the money, I'd stop by and splurge here!

My bf took me here for our anniversary and it was soo romantic. Our host led us to our table which was decorated with rose petals all over the table cloth and a candlelight in the middle. (If you call them ahead of time they have an option to set it up for a little extra dough.) We were seated in towards the back so it was very nice to have some privacy and the lights were dim and we were very comfy. Our waiter was fantastic, he recommended some great dishes and was very friendly. I ordered the Linguine Frutti di Mare which was the best seafood linguine I've ever had.. it had about 7 different kinds of seafood (mussels, clams, calamari, halibut, salmon, scallops and tiger prawns) and the linguine was cooked to perfection. I also ordered a side of creamy polenta and that was so flavorful with chicken stock and parsley. The portion they give you is a lot which is almost the same size as your entree! My bf ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese which he absolutely loved. It was filled with rigatoni pasta with ground veal and lamb in the ragu sauce. The taste was rich but yet perfect and the portions were big so I had to take home half of my pasta. For dessert, we ordered the sorbet which the waiter gave us an option to have one scoop of all 3 kinds they had (mango, raspberry, lemon) which was nice to end a great dinner.
I would definitely recommend this place to any couple who would love an romantic italian dinner.. this place is so worth it. Even though its kinda hidden in Post Alley, its a spot you can't miss. :)

This is the kind of place that you really need to go to when it's dark outside to get the right effect. My wife and I went here last night for an early dinner, and while the food and service were both spectacular, the whole place was awash in a grey early evening light that detracted from the intimacy of the place. Hold off until the dark, dreary winter returns, then come into the warm and indulge in fantastic steaks and delicious pasta.
The rib eye (special) was gigantic and is almost as good as a cold lunch while writing yelp reviews. Tender, melting, perfect steak with chanterelles, mashed potatoes and green beans in a red wine reduction. My wife's ravioli was very fresh with a great sauce. We both left feeling like we were the winners this evening.

I research. In my research, I utilize yelp and anyone who has an opinion! And on my quest for the most romantical restaurant to take my boyfriend for his birthday, it seemed Il Bistro would fit with unparalleled fitnessticity via yelpers and friends. I have to say, it was a nice restaurant, but neither the food nor the ambience was particularly magical. Yes, I am particular. I have to say, the "greeter" at the front desk was extremely jovial, awesome, and great... and the best part was being recommended an EXCELLENT bottle of Sicilain Syrah. Nothing like the syrah around here, but it was delicious. I would almost say this restaurant would be better in the winter when it's cold and dark outside - the inside glows much more once the sun goes down. Food? Decent enough, and priced in the same vein. Rave? No. Did I eat everything on my plate? I sure did! Bring you sister, mother, hang-out friend or whomever! Go, if you like Italian food - give it a try and make up your own damn mind!

So I was in the Alibi Room (great place) and needed a good place to take my mom for dinner (I should have made reservations). Everywhere was booked, there was no parking, and we would have to drive somewhere. The waiter suggested a secret little place called Il Bistro. I walked two feet next door and there it was! We didn't have to drive or park anywhere because we were already at the market from earlier that day. We walked in and the owner (Randy), who took our reservations, also took our coats and showed us to our seats. The place was full, but not slammed. The low ceilings and red lighting felt like adobe Santa Fe meets sexy Paris. We ordered wine and sourdough was brought to our table. We talked and lingered and ordered our Italian meals. The food was amazing, lots options for any type of eater. We passed on dessert even though it looked amazing. The prices weren't too bad and they were worth every penny to not leave the market but to feel like we were in a different country! Bravo Il Bistro, Bravo!
