I moved back in March and really appreciated Derek's constant communication with me about the right truck size, the time the movers would arrive and what to expect with the movers. Even when I realized that I forgot to give Derek my phone number for him to contact me, he emailed me and did whatever he could to touch base so I would know the exact fifteen minute window of when the movers would arrive.
The move went very smoothly. The movers were super professional and told us to relax while they did the heavy lifting. They were also great with packing everything in the truck so that nothing would move around and break. It took a little more time for them to do this, but nothing was damaged when we unpacked out our new place.
Great company, easy move and Derek was extremely helpful. Hopefully I won't be moving for a few years, but when I do, no need to look around. 1st Choice will be the first moving company I call. -

I had 1st Choice Movers handle my large move. They did packing services as we ran out of time getting prepared, and then the full move. Everyone was incredibly nice and professional; Derek, Peter, Jesse, Asa, Andy, and Victoria. Derek is very prompt and always on top of the details, making everything easy.
There were a few snags along the way; a few things left behind, etc. I contacted Derek after the move with the details. He took my feedback very seriously, and wouldn't rest until he'd made things right. He came back out with a truck and personally made sure that everything ended up in the right place.
I think the measure of customer service is not the result when everything goes well, but rather when something inevitably goes wrong, and how it's handled. Derek shows that he really cares about every customer and is fanatic about the level of service his company provides.
I recommend 1st Choice Movers very highly, and will certainly use them again if the opportunity arises!

I called 1st choice movers on the morning we were to be entirely moved out of a rental and in to the new condo my husband and I purchased by 5pm, when the carpet cleaners were scheduled to arrive. I was soooooo stressed out and worried that I wouldn't be able to find movers that could accomodate us same day. I called and spoke to Derek, who was so personable, understanding, and professional. He was able to fit us in during the afternoon with a 3-man moving crew. Andy, Leo and Gary.
These guys were awesome! Polite, friendly and very accomodating of any request I had. They never made me feel like I was a bother. They worked fast, efficiently and were careful with all of our belongings. They packed up and moved our 2 bdrm/2bath place in 3 hours and 45 mins! Amazing!!!
Customer service & services provided were absolutely top notch =) Something I really appreciated too was that Derek stayed in contact with me the entire time up until the point the moving guys arrived. This helped me to not have a melt down and worry that they might cancel for any reason.
1st Choice Movers definitely came to our rescue and we can't say enough good things about this company. I highly recommend them and whenever we move, we'll be calling them again! -

These guys are great. Sorry, but my bird ate the business card with their names, otherwise I would mention them. We called them at the last minute to move our belongings from a POD, who, for a long explanation, could not drop the POD off at our new job location, so these guys transferred everything into their moving trucks and brought it out. Minus a few dirt marks and dings on the staircase up, I have no complaints. They were professional, polite, and had a sense of humor. I would definitely call them again when we move to our next job location in about a year. Thanks guys!

Someone gifted me an upright piano!
Woot! Lucky me, but the catch?
I had to move it.... So I was on the hunt for someone excellent and local to do the job. I have two pianos back east and am not a moving n00b. I wanted someone who could do it right.
IMHO Customer Service is a rare thing these days. When an experience exceeds my expectations I just have to YELP about it.
I searched YELP and called some movers with "Piano" listed in their name. No one called me back, despite their voice-mail promising same day callbacks between a certain time period. (Weak Sauce!)
I decided to trust my YELP Karma to guide me to the right Piano mover... What I found was 1st Choice Movers and a good gut feeling. I am so happy. The YELP gods are smiling on me!
I called Derek who picked up right away, consulted my situation over the phone and asked me ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS regarding a piano move. This is important when moving a precious instrument. It's all about details. After talking it over Derek gave me an EXCELLENT PRICE for 2.5 hours of sheer man power! Like, Wow.
I only needed the Piano moved 3 miles. I knew it wouldn't take the full 2.5 hours and asked if I could use the remaining time to rearrange my furniture. Perhaps move some stuff I could not lift on my own yada yada... The answer: Yes - BAM Deal.
Derek followed up with an email confirming all the details later that afternoon and was able to hold my reservation while I confirmed my schedule.
I also got an email right before the move reconfirming the details, price of my move and time I would be contacted. There were NO HIDDEN COSTS - (I LOVE THIS!)
MOVING DAY
The wonderful, polite, punctual and crazy strong guys Roy and Edgar contacted me earlier in the afternoon and told me they would arrive at Point A at 2PM.
At 1:55PM Roy called to confirm they were there and confirmed the best place to park. (So thoughtful).
It took about 1/2 hour for them to move the piano from point A to point B and they arrived to help me at my house. Let me preface this by saying I should be on the show "Hoarders". Or "Hoarders Lite" or "Bitch You are a Hot Mess".... Ya know, that show. The guys didn't make me feel uncomfortable about how cray cray my house was and they were both SUPER nice and worked efficiently moving all the crap. Edgar even caught a thorn on one of my outdoor rosebushes - OUCH! Poor dude. I was super embarrassed and cut them right away, he was really nice about it and did not make a stink.
After moving dusty couches, dressers, pilates reformer, chairs, headboards and a Piano I asked them to move a very big white bed. It was just a few feet across the room but it's a fabric covered sleigh bed - white as snow.
Edgar and Roy had no problem giving their hands a wash at the kitchen sink... and now here is the best part. They didn't just rinse and go. Both of them WASHED the shiz out of their hands making sure they were super clean and that just melted my heart. They really cared about not getting this item dirty and respected the request. Now THAT is quality people. Take note.
They communicated and worked VERY well together and even had ideas for furniture placement I never would have imagined. Professional and awesome.
After I had them slave away for what seemed like years I sent them on their way. I was exhausted just watching them and honestly couldn't handle all the progress they had made for me! My house looks SO much better. I don't know if they realize the burden that was lifted off of me. I was drowning in all that furniture. They made sure there was nothing else they could help me with and left everything neat and tidy.
Later that night I got a follow up text and email receipt from Derek along with nice note. It's so wonderful to feel like a valued customer and even better to hire someone to do a job and see the task carried out well and with class. I am really impressed.
I would call 1st Choice Movers for ALL my local moving needs. In fact, I am so inspired by this experience I'm definitely having them back just for furniture arrangement. Don't bother with anyone else. This YELPER, and obviously tons of others, has spoken. Oh and a certain bad review from that racist ranting puke of a "woman" is the biggest joke I've seen all year. These guys are the best, so stick THAT in your pipe and smoke it. While reading all your other reviews I think.... California 50/50 Divorce law is the only reason you're still married. Ugh, your poor husband!
So for the REST of you with your home base firmly planted in REALITY. May the 1st Choice Movers Force Be With You! Thank you Roy, Edgar and Derek. -

1st Choice Movers did such a great job!
Peter, Sergio and Roy were supposed to be in North County at about 8:15/8:30 and they showed up at 8am which was just fine by us! (Derek told us they may be early.)
We had the garage staged with TONS of boxes and they went right to work loading them in. If there were pockets of space they would try and fit smaller items in there. We filled up about half of the truck with boxes and were SO close at getting everything in. With a kid...we just have a LOT of stuff. Luckily we only were moving about 3 miles away so they made a quick 2nd trip.
Only a tiny glass vase and a cheap drinking glass broke out of ALL of that stuff but I definitely do not contribute that to the movers. I'm sure it was just too much stuff in a box and only being wrapped in moving paper. Only two tiny things broken is amazing!
The guys hustled the ENTIRE time and were working extremely hard yet were very friendly to work with! I got them Subway which I think they appreciated but they took such a quick break and right back to it.
I also really appreciate Derek's prompt communication prior to the move. I think I overcommunicated because my biggest fear was a 'no show' that morning. Not because of them, but just a general fear!
I highly recommend 1st Choice Movers! -

These guys saved the day! Some miscommunication occurred & it turned out I had no movers on "move day" come 4pm. Luckily I was referred to these guys, & amazingly they had an opening @ 8am the next day!
Juan & Paul showed up early & ready to work! They were great! Even w/ my different moving situation (moved mom to nursing home) they were sensitive & thoughtful around my mom & the home's residents.

We booked 1st Choice Movers based on their great yelp reviews and boy did they live up to their ratings! Asa, Peter and Gary showed up on time and were extremely polite and hard working while they moved our things from one home to the next. Not one piece of furniture or belongings broke or even got dirt on it. These guys were extremely hard working and took the time to ask me exactly where I wanted everything placed in the new home. They even helped me move items I wanted rearranged that were already in the home. I would definitely use them again, although I hope I don't have to move anytime soon. They are amazing and will definitely ask for these three, Asa, Peter and Gary, next time I need to move! Thanks so much guys!!

Moving last week was a breeze thanks to Roy and Juan. They are great guys and I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone (and actually already have). They arrived early, were super flexible and accommodating and just all around cool guys.
From the moment Roy and Juan arrived, we knew we had made the right choice in working with Derek and his team. The guys were super careful, wrapping items and placing them into the truck quickly and gently.
We really felt like we were having a couple of friends help move us, they were so easy to work with.
We will certainly be using 1st Choice Movers every time we make a move in the future.
Seriously, if you are on the fence with who to hire, this is it. Derek is FAST at responding to emails, he is really easy going and the whole experience comes without all of the cold interactions I found when contacting other companies.

This company is definitely a step above any other moving company I've ever used. They are conscientious when handling your things fragile or not. setting up the appointment was easy and there were no surprises when the move was over-straight forward from the get go. Only drawback is that you rent your own truck but since they are willing to drive it for you it all works out. 1st Choice movers = happy customers.

1st Choice Movers are OUTSTANDING!
Derek along with Sergio, Aca, Roy, & Peter helped us move from our home in Oceanside to our new house in Encinitas - they did a great job. The team/ trucks arrived twenty minutes early, worked continuously, were a pleasure to work with, carefully padded & wrapped fragile items, took apart & re-built all large items (desks, hutch, beds, etc), and completed the job in less time than I thought it would take. It is worth noting that it rained all day during our move and these guys had zero problems/ delays due to the weather.
If you have an upcoming move (large or small), I highly recommend 1st Choice! They are efficient, effective, careful, and courteous and will very likely exceed your expectations.

Like most people, moving is the last thing I ever want to do in the world. Unfortunately, I moved 4 times in the last three years. Normally, I would rent a U-Haul and ask my friends to help me. However, I just hurt my back so badly and have to find an alternative way. Thanks Derek and his 1st Choice Movers make the end of my nightmare.
I don't want to restate how hard his movers work or how smooth the moving is as so many other solid reviews already did. I just want to make a list of things they did that delight me.
*Derek is friendly, patient and considerate. Actually, I really enjoy communicating with him, orally and in written.
*They are on time. Edgar and Roy even arrived at my house 15 minutes earlier than we scheduled. Amazing, right?
*Huge truck fits everything in. The truck they bring is at least 24 feet long, which makes the move really smooth. The other good thing is if you have some furniture that you don't want to reassemble, you don't have to.
*Every single box is properly organized. These guys are not only professional movers, but also are great architects. Everything is in order and tightly held. So, I don't even bother to think about any potential damages at all.
*No hiding fees or last minute fees. Everything is included in the quote. I moved from second floor to a three-level condo and they didn't charge a single penny for conquering gravity.
*Everything is unloaded as you wish. They put everything in places as I want when unloading the truck. It saves plenty of time for unpackaging.
Did I mention efficiency? Speak honestly, I don't trust moves based on hourly pay, but these guys work like well-oiled machine. I even got some Tips from Derek of how to make an efficient move: "The more packed and prepped you guys can be helps. Loose unpacked items can add time, so to make it as quick as possible I always recommend everything be packed into moving boxes. You can grab moving boxes at Home Depot for $1 each and tape as well if needed. So your items you could pack into boxes helps with efficiency. We will also bring along 4-5 wardrobe boxes as well, so you can load your hanging clothes into them."
Overall, I am so happy about making this wise decision to handle my move to 1st Choice Movers and can't help sharing my experience.

This is the first time I've used movers and I will never even think of moving myself again! Was for sure the easiest move ever and they even put my stuff where I wanted it and reassembled my king size bed. Asa and 2 others came, all very friendly and professional. Derek is obviously a workaholic and corresponded with me via email at all hours of the day and night. Highly recommend these guys. About 10 minutes into the move I felt 100% fine about spending the money. Definitely use them!!!

I wanted to send you a quick note and thank you for the team you sent over to help with my move. Johnny, Chris, and Ryan (I believe it was) were outstanding. They showed up just early of our schedule and worked non-stop and super efficient. They really helped get the truck packed in.
They were also very friendly and just provided excellent service.

Derek crew is the sizzle for dizzle !!! I've been using them THREE FREAKING TIMES in 2 yrs....that's right !! that's how much I LOVE MOVING .... NOT !! I hate moving, it sucks, tiring and .... sucks !!! Good thing there is a great movers like 1st choice movers. The last 2 guys are Johny & Chris, it was their 2nd time helped me out on moving. They are FAST and efficient and took care my stuff carefully. They came ON-TIME all the time, even 10 minutes earlier.
I rent a 2BR U-Haul truck, right off the bat when Johny saw the truck & my stuff he said "it wont fit, you need bigger truck" I was like "&^#%^$%^%!!!&@^#$# NOO !! can't be, it's gonna fit". Sure enough....it's not fit. Luckily Johny & Chris willing to use their truck to carry my stuff, especially my beautiful IKEA drawers that like 7 feet high, they really cover it with blanket the heck out of it, it's so well protected not even a single scratch. You guys are the real deal !!
I will absolutely use them again...hopefully not anytime soon :( just sick of moving seriously. Btw, tip them....it's well worth it ! :) -

I used 1st Choice Movers for a move from a 1 bedroom condo to my brand spankin' new downtown condo. Found 1st Choice Movers on Yelp and never looked back!
Derek was reliable, on top of things, and fun to work with. Obviously, everyone hates moving, but Derek and his man Peter made it as enjoyable as it could be--even on a rainy day.
I've never had movers before but it is The Way To Go. They took care of packing everything, even though I was still putting last minute things in boxes when they arrived. The move went quickly, my stuff was well-protected, and both Derek and Peter had great senses of humor.
I highly recommend this moving company! And if you're nice to Derek, he moves you in his tank top so you get a free Gun Show! Thanks Derek!! -

Derek Parker & team made my sister's & my move seamless! I was referred to 1st Choice Movers by a friend of mine. I emailed Derek with a few questions and he promptly replied back. I knew that these were definitely the guys to help me with my move.
I had a two bedroom / two bath condo in Rancho Bernardo and moved to a two story four bedroom / three and a half bathroom house in Menifee (approx 45- 1 HR away). Derek & his team were amazing, they showed up 10-15 minutes early the morning of our move. They had offered supplying us with wardrobe boxes to make moving our closets, and of course they had wrapping, blankets, and dollies to assist with making the move as fast as possible.
They completed our move within the time frame we had originally spoke of, and were so kind to without asking set up our bedframes in the bedrooms.
I would HIGHLY recommend 1st Choice Movers for your move. I have moved myself plenty of times and I can honestly say that 1st Choice Movers was worth every penny. I will never move myself again!!!

I answered an ad on Craigslist, and was a little worried you know Craigslist Flakes, I changed moving dates 3 times and was greeted with a "can do" attitude!
Jesse, Paul and Edwin were my movers and they WERE/ARE fantastic! When they arrived I was stressed out to say the least and they took charge and got things done!
I will be recommending them to everyone I know!

Moving sucks, but this company can take a lot of the pain away. Sergio, Juan and Asa arrrived 20 minutes early and busted the move out. Could not have asked for a better experience. They padded my beloved 55 inch Sony up all safe and cozy and got all of our stuff to our new home in a hurry. The 3 guys worked really hard and they took pride in their work. Thanks guys.

Derek and his crew are a tall glass of awesome. I called about a month out to schedule my move around 9pm and Derek answered the call. He asked for an email detailing what we needed moved and quoted me an awesome price withing 20 minutes of my call.
We ended up moving the day after the huge power outage and lost several hours of time to pack all the last minute stuff. I was a bit concerned that the movers would be late, but Derek's crew arrived right on time and got straight to work and didn't even bat an eye at what we hadn't gotten done. Nor did they act in the least bit stressed as my 3 year old attempted to run circles around them as they hauled our stuff out to the truck. Derek even showed up to lend a hand in the loading portion of our move and to introduce himself.
They were done in about 6 hours and never paused once to take a break. I would def recommend them (and will as we're military and we all move around constantly). Thanks for dealing with my 7 month pregnant hormonal self, Derek!!! You rock! -

Like almost everyone else here on Yelp, I contacted 1st Choice Movers because of all the positive reviews. I decided to hire them because of their reasonable price and the fact that Derek was extremely responsive and polite whenever I contacted him with questions (everything was done via email prior to move day and all emails were promptly addressed). I have always hired movers and while the others did a good enough job, they didn't do a great job. I was thoroughly impressed with Derek, Peter, and Roy. They showed up on time, had everything you need to move (wardrobe boxes, blankets, shrink wrap, tape, etc.), and had awesome attitudes. Nothing was broken or damaged because they take great care in wrapping everything.
The circumstances that led up to my move were fairly stressful but the day of the move went far better than I expected. A friend bought my fridge and Derek arranged to have it delivered to her house after they finished unloading the million boxes I had. I will recommend them to anyone I know who plans on moving.
Don't forget to be nice to your movers and have some water or something for them to drink. The more prepared you are before they arrive, the easier it will be for everyone! :) -

I am very late in writing this review. I should have done it weeks ago.
Derek and his crew, Jesse and Edwin were great. We called when we couldn't find anybody else in our short timeframe we had to move.
Poor Jesse and Edwin, they came over expecting to help move just a few houshold items and ended up helping us move our whole house. These guys were great!
If you in a pinch (or even if your not) don't waist your time, money, and peace-of-mind on picking up some guys up off the street. Pay and honest wage and get an honest days work from guys you can trust.

Five Stars for Derek and his buddy Peter! These two guys helped me move last weekend and they were absolutely awesome!
My decision to hire Derek was based off his wonderful Yelp reviews. In communicating with Derek he was professional and personable. We set up my move date over the phone and the rest of the details were sent via email. The day prior to my move I received a confirmation/reminder email about my move taking place the next morning.
The morning of the move Derek texted me to ask if he and Peter could start the 30 minutes early which I was more than happy to agree to. Derek and Peter arrive at 8am - though they were outside the apartment by 7:30am getting ready and waiting to kick off the move. Once they entered the apartment they moved like a well-oiled machine and were able to clear my one bedroom out in roughly 30 minutes! I was very impressed with their speed and efficiency.
Once the truck was fully loaded they left with my stuff and headed to the new apartment. On the other end they promptly unloaded my belongings in under an hour which was quite the feat considering the walkway and L-shaped stairs they had to maneuver.
All of my belongings were delivered in great shape. They used blankets to cover my wardrobes, they used garment boxes to haul all of my hanging clothes, they took good care of my fiance's road bike, they were cautious with my fragile belongings (i.e. glassware, frames, artwork), and they were very friendly and personable throughout the entire process.
I would absolutely recommend using 1st Choice Movers for your next move! I know we will be doing so. =) -

Here are the reasons Derek and his team made this last move the easiest EVER:
1. I called him at 9 pm to initiate the move because when you're in the middle of a move sometimes that's the only time you have and...HE ANSWERED! And he confirmed a solid quote and booked my move that night.
2. He kept in courteous and constant communication with me through the whole process.
3. There were no hidden fees or costs.
4. I've never seen a more buff mover. I think he could have carried all of my furniture on his shoulders in one trip.
5. Maybe he did, because in the time it took me to drive my daughter to school Derek and his team had loaded my WHOLE HOUSE. Wow.
6. He confirmed the night before and then let me know he was on his way 45 min. and 15 min. out. Peace of mind = happy movers.
7. Nothing was broken.
8. The movers were not just on time but a bit early. Yay.
9. I have watched other residents moving themselves in and I sit back in my unpacked house and laugh thanks to having great movers.
10. The guys are guys you would hang out with, not the creepy kind of typical movers that you are afraid to leave alone with your possessions. :)

Had a great experience using 1st Choice - Peter and Paul were on time and ready to go as soon as they got to my place. They assessed the room and contents that were to be moved and got right to it. I was moving from a 3rd floor apartment with an elevator to a 3rd floor apartment without an elevator, and they were very quick and efficient in getting everything up the stairs at my new place, and never even took a break that I saw!
I had called around to about 5 other companies and Derek had the best price (and like everyone else has said, he keeps in very good contact) and I bet the fastest service as well. Thanks for the painless move (well, other than all those stairs!) -

After arranging everything with Derek over email, he was so nice and prompt he replied to my emails right away even though he was on vacation with his family. The next morning and 10 minutes b4 8AM two big and strong guys showed up ( Johnny & Chris ) both were very professional,friendly, fast and handled my furniture with care ! They finished moving out my apartment and set it up in the new apartment which happens to be within the same complex in less than 3 hours. Johnny and Chris thank you !!

Alright I am a very skeptical person. I've ready reviews on yelp where people have said YEAH THESE GUYS ROCK, and it turned out to be FAT WRONG, and the other way around. But with 1st Choice Movers I took a leap of faith, and BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!!!!. First off, the customer service as you will, is awesome. Derrick is on his game in making sure everything runs smooth, he gets back to you immediately, I mean I call, and before I can even hear his voicemail, he is calling me back already.
Too cool.
Then, the stressful day of the move. I keep dreading it, but the two fabulous movers came in, and turned me into a believer.
Roy and Peter were the guys who did the move, and damn I hope when I make my next move these guys come out. But then again, maybe all of Derek's guys are as good as them (or I sure hope they are).
These guys went above and beyond, and I normally never REVIEW on yelp, I READ them and then forget about writing a review, but these guys are so awesome I wanted to make sure they get props and definitely turned me into a believer in the moving business. Cost was reasonable and I am a happy camper. My wife sees me as a HERO and hey thats all that matters.

Super. Duper. Fast. When Derek & Edgar moved us a few weeks ago, we had high expectations, as they already had great Yelp reviews. 1st Choice Movers exceeded our expectations. We had to reschedule the move a couple times due to not closing escrow on time, and then again due to a very rainy weekend. Derek was very responsive and answered my many questions promptly. When they arrived at our place, he told me that "you're just going to start seeing things fly out of here." And fly they did! They moved our stuff in 2 1/2 hours and I didn't see them stop or slow down once. I am so glad we hired 1st Choice instead of trying to move our large items ourselves. Thanks, Derek, for the smooth move. :)

Recently I helped my friend move in San Diego.
I had the pleasure of working with Edgar, Roy and Anthony. What an incredibly professional and genuinely NICE group of guys.
Not once did these gentlemen complain, roll their eyes or even make a SINGLE demand or request during the time they were there to move.
I've worked with "professional" movers dozens of times and I have NEVER SEEN a more professional and NICE group of movers.
I expected, as with any move, some groans about the heat, or complaints that the house wasn't completely packed, or that my friend wasn't really providing ANY direction to them, but not once did any of these awesome employees say a word or react negatively.
I would be PROUD to recommend 1st Choice to all of my family and friends. They are PROFESSIONAL, SUPPORTIVE AND DO AN EXTRAORDINARY JOB MOVING QUICKLY AND NOT "KEEPING THE METER RUNNING"! -

This company is supper porfessional and honest and hard working. They made a really bad experience with another moving company have a great ending. I booked thru craigslist (sdmovers), they called the morning of our move to let us know that they were delayed due to truck issues. I called around for hours everyone was booked, when I got a hold of Derek he made it happen!!!
