50 reviews for 19th Ave 76 Station
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
This is a gas station/smog check/mechanic on 19th Ave that is super busy, but efficient.
If you pull up for gas, an attendant will pump it for you, no extra cost; I think because they want to keep their fuel pump lines moving. Free bonus to the consumer.
Smog is about $35 out the door. $25 for smog plus certificate. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes.
Recommended for those flat repairs, gas fill-ups and smog checks when you are on the go and they've got a clean restroom when you need to go! There are two 76 stations across the street from one another, this is on the southbound side of 19th.
These folks are "bait and switch" experts... They advertisr $2.75 per gallon for regular octane (87) and they are totally out of it, they say, at 11.00 am... Totally!...
Well, they think I will go for a higher octane, now that I am at the pump, with the gas cap off.... Bull puckey.
They have a little hand wriitne piece of paper that says "out" over the 87 octane. The piece of paper is the size of a playing card...
They are basically crooks... If they DO NOT have a certain product, they should not quote a price on the big signs... They should say "NONE, at this time:".....
Watch this law change....Mark my words. (The jerk pumping gas got mad at me for being mad at their "bait and switch".
Stay tuned, folks.

Thanks to this fantastic invention in San Francisco called a one-way street, me & my overactive-bladder couldn't make a single left turn on 19th Ave for 4.2mi straight.
In the city, 4.2mi = AN EFFING LONG TIME.
The problem? All the gas stations with BATHROOMS were on the left side of the street.
Then I spotted the beautiful red & blue 76 sign on my right, high in the sky, like a savior to rescue me from the embarrassment of an accident in my short white skirt.
I dashed inside, tinkled, then thanked the cute mechanic, who didn't even charge me the usual 25cents to use the bathroom :)
These guys are fast, courteous, and honest. I compared the recent required services to my car with five other places, and they came out to be the least expensive. They finished my car within 1 day.
Check'em out!
I had no idea. I pulled up and started to get out of Chick to filler up. I got a very puzzled look from the station attendant. Seems he would like to pump my gas for me. Well, then. Be my guest.
Awesome throwback. And at the same price as other stations in the area.
It so reminded me of when I was a little girl at grampa's house which was situated right next to the gas station he owned/operated. He'd be out there pumping gas, washing windshields, checking oil, even in sub-zero Wisconsin winters... Grampa was awesome to watch. And I miss him.
I went in originally to get my "service engine" light issue fixed. I had already taken it in to another place that did not charge me for the diagnostic to find out what the problem was, so I already knew that all I need to get replaced was one of my oxygen censor. I really need to get it fixed right away, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere.
First, I was told there were two censors, so I told them to go ahead and just go with the diagnostic, which normally would average at $70 but they tried to charged me $120. I argued that price and got it down $110, the labor was well priced but when I was called about how much my part cost ($280), I had told them that I did my own research and I was quoted $70 for the part.
They obviously tried to get one over on me because they knew that I need the car fixed ASAP. Luckily for me, I'm not that easily fooled. I will never go there again.
What a joke! They charge $95 to run an OBD2 scanner (diagnostic). Most places diagnose for FREE so that you are able to decide whether or not to fix the problem before you spend money. As soon as the guy on the phone realized I knew what I was talking about, he hung up on me.
Before anybody wastes $95 to have them plug in the scanner for literally 20 seconds, go to kragen and buy one for $70 and do it yourself. Not only will you save money, but you can diagnose using that same scanner for the rest of the car's lifespan.
Bottom line: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE, they over charge and take advantage of innocent customers who are unaware of what things are supposed to cost.
It was time to get a smog check for my car registration. After a little research, I found a coupon for this place on SF Advertiser. $30 for smog check + fees + certificate is probably one of the best deals in town. (Cash only).
We came by at around 8am one morning before work. We were told that there is one person before me so it'll probably be about 20 minutes or so. Instead of waiting around the gas station, we gave the keys to the attendant and went to a cafe on Irving. We got our bagels and were back in about 10 minutes. I saw my car still parked in the same place so I assumed they have not dealt with it yet. So we went inside and sat down. Just then, the attendant told us that it's done. Wow, that was quick!
$27 cash, for smog check and includes certificate and electronic transfer. NEED COUPON FOR THIS PRICE. (Coupon says addition charge for '95 and older and specific model cars. If it matters I have a 4cyl FWD). If you don't have a coupon it's $42 with certificate and electronic transfer. San Francisco residents know where to get the coupon, they are located in any populated area of the city.
(they perform smog check, not smog test, check your dmv registration)
Took less than 30minutes, 2 people ahead of me.
As of Dec 12, regular gas price is $1.65 per gallon (cash).
You can check here for updates: http://www.sanfrangasp...
Remember those days when you couldn't wait to get a
surprise freebie from the bottom of a Cracker Jack box?
You get a similar "high" when you get your gas tank filled here.
Why? I will tell you why in a moment.
Although gas prices have dropped considerably, a penny
saved is a penny earned. I am not saying you should
drive many miles to save a few pennies, but if you are on 19th
Avenue, consider this to be a "pit stop."
The reason some readers may not know what is full service
is that most gas stations have stopped offering it many many years ago.
For the same price of a self-service gas, an attendant comes
to your window and asks you for your desired octane and
then fills your gas up, while you sit in your car.
I am not perpetuating laziness, but it is a real benefit for people, who
hate to get their fingers dirty and to keep warm during windy days and
to stay dry during rainy days. Also one less thing to worry about when
you have your cargo, ie your child or pet (whichever is more precious),
in the car.
Yelper Patra B shared with me that the other station have the same
prices across the street minus the full service.
Tips:
* Since this location is in a high traffic area, be careful of bad drivers
and pedestrians. I have seen accidents.
* There is a 15% coupon on their website for auto repairs, but
I have not tried their mechanical service.
Cheaper than other gas stations in the area, has full service available, and open late - what's not to like?!
It can be a little awkward getting in and out of the parking lot for this business, and they don't have much of a convenience store, but they do inexpensive smog checks and the guys who work here are polite.
There. I've actually reviewed a gas station. I'm thoroughly proud of myself :)
Check out their website for the 15% off coupon. I used that and got a smog check with an oil change for under $70. Not only was it cheap, it was done in about an hour.
The guy behind the counter was nice and patient. (I saw him tell a bajillion people that the cashier for gas is outside.... each time without attitude.)
Lots of shops and food within walking distance while you wait. Also, they have cheap gas.
Can't complain!
GAS Prices here are competitive ! Even to costco! So with the full service its well worth it! Service here is always great! If your car has any problems just bring it down and ask for Joe! He will take care of u

Great owner! I get my car smogged here all the time! Quick and easy, i never get gas here because i… Read more »
I was only looking for a cheap place to get a smog check. The regular price smog check beats other regularly priced places I could find out there. The total out the door including smog inspection, certificate and ET is $41.20 for most cars. If you're lucky like me, I found a coupon and got a discount too! The estimated wait since a few people had just beat me in line was 20 minutes and it was accurate. I definitely recommend this 76 station for quick, efficient and cheap smog checks.
After a day of walking around the Golden Gate Rec Area I was pooped and running late to meet-up with my couchsurfing host, but I had to put gas. Traffic was a bitch, and all I wanted was to get in and get out quickly.
I drove for a couple blocks and came upon this 76. The gas was cheaper then the ones I had previously passed upon across the street, so I pulled in.
I was about to get out when this Asian dude asked me if I wanted to fill up. Sweet! I felt like I was in Oregon; full service station! I handed him my card and he cleaned my windows while my tank was filling up.
Full service station with self serve prices. You can't beat that when you're on a budget and running late.
Fast, quality service is what I get every time I go here. A few weeks ago, I suddenly got a flat tire, then noticed that my other front tire. Had my car towed to their station on a Saturday morning at 10am. after they checked the car, noticed that my brakes were severely worn down, told me I needed them replaced. By 3pm, I had 2 brand new front tires, new front brakes and rotors, and an oil change; cost $540. From what I can tell, these guys seem honest; I say this because they once did something for free. I have no idea how comparable their prices are to the rest of the city, since this is the only place I've gone to since I moved here 3 years ago. They are ridiculously convenient and super fast, so to me, that's priceless.
PS---They have some of the cheapest gas in the city!!
I called ahead to make sure they weren't too busy. I was finally taking the plunge and needing to register my car in CA after 14 months (oops!). So emissions was the first on my list.
After searching for a cheap place to do this - hey, it's just emissions, not finding a trustworthy mechanic - I found this place. There were others that had reviews claiming to be cheap, but this place ALSO had good reviews.
I drove in, and they were busy. However as promised, they got me in quickly. This place is a small 2 garage door mechanic shop and part 76 gas station. Needless to say, the company lot is about the size of 2 matchboxes, but somehow there's enough room even during rush hour for customers to pull in and get gas while the mechanics buzz around doing their thing.
I had gone to their web site and printed out the 15% discount coupon - sorry, but I have a thing against paying full price for emissions testing. I was in and out of there in about 30 mins, and the awesome owner, who I recognized from the pics, was the one who took care of me. He seems gruff from first glance, but he warms up quickly and turned out to be just as awesome as everyone says. Joe, I think is his name. Anyway, to my surprise, he rang my bill up with a discount included before I even mentioned the coupon.
Who does that?!?!?! Joe does! He rocks. He was only about 80 cents higher than the coupon would have done, but when I busted it out, he changed it without much hassle, aside from a meaningless joke or two. ;-) I should'a known better and given it to him upfront. Sorry Joe!
I'm going to always bring my car and business back to Joe. I was so impressed with him, even dealing with a small ticket like mine, he went above and beyond. Thanks Joe!
(By the way before I get hate mail, my car passed with flying colors the first time, meaning that my car was always within the emissions standards since I've done nothing recently related to fix that. It ain't hard to keep a car well maintained.)
UPDATE:
After perusing the rest of the reviews, there seems to be some that are very opposite my experience. This place seems to be one of those polarizing places. I will keep that in mind if I ever get a larger amount of work done in the future, but I will hope for the best.
Great customer service. I stopped by after my fuel tank light turned on. I got out of my car and this friendly, purple-haired attendant said he would help me. He filled the tank as we talked about life. It didn't even matter how much I was paying.
Thanks.
I've been taking my car's to Joe and Gina ever since I've had my drivers license (23 Years). Joe is normally at this location, and I always know there will be NO surprises with the service and repairs done to my car.
I took my S500 for a brake job today, Joe told me what to expect ,and a quote which to normally within the overall cost. He always promises to have the repairs done within a day, unless the parts need to be special ordered.
All the mechanics there are friendly, and will explain the repair job in detail. This is the ONLY place I take me cars to.
When I told my brother I needed to fill up the gas tank,
he told me to come here, "they will pump the gas for you"
I said, "Haha! What-ever, you funny boy, you! Can't fool me!"
Who knew this was 1/100000000000 times he was telling the truth.
I was in&out quick! & good prices!
I would come here again. I hate pumping my own gas...
(: First review! after 2 years...
**Do Not Go Here for Oil Changes**
Went for an oil change in 2003 when they were 19th avenue BP yes it was some time ago but I'm pretty sure they're still under the same management. They changed my oil but didn't change my filter!! When I went to do my next oil change myself I saw a honda oil filter! Meaning they didn't change it since they would use like a penzoil filter or something not from a dealership!
What ripoff I was only in high school too back in 2003. Way to take advantage of a kid.
Wow! What great service. I boguht my gf's car in this morning around 10am. Picked it up at 4pm. FREE INSPECTION!
She had some bad brakes, I knew it was time for new ones. Since I own a Car performance shop, I knew what she needed and prices for labor. She needed her rotors re-surfaced and new brake pads installed. First thing I thought of, was 76 on 19th. The one between 19th and 20th Ave Judah. I bought her some brake pads from my shop and had them installed.
I had great service, maybe because I told them I worked 1/2 a block away and I knew what I was talking about. Price was great for the labor too. I would bring my own car there if I needed something done.
Yelpers BEWARE! This station is the same one with another Yelp profile under the name of Union 76 with terrible reviews, http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I'm new in town and needed to take my car in for routine service. I tried this place because I live a couple blocks away and thought it would be convenient. Well, big mistake. They told me other stuff needed to be changed so I decided to take my Toyota to the dealer for a second opinion -- sure enough 19th Ave 76 Station lied to me. I''m sorry I didn't check the Yelp reviews beforehand and would not have wasted my time.
Never came here to get my car serviced before, I only come here for gas. It is consistently cheaper than most 76 stations anywhere else, and all surrounding shell/chevron stations. On the side closer to 20ththey have full service and on the side closer to 18th it is self service. I usually go to the side closer to 18th because it is less crowded, and is more convenient for me when driving out to the richmond.
Review based on gas prices only.
+1: They have one of the cheapest gas prices on 19th Ave. between SF State & GG Park. Gas is expensive these days!!
+1: They pump your gas for you. What place does that anymore??
+2: I got to stay nice & toasty in my car without having to touch a grimy gas pump!
I just come to pump and is done in 15 minutes pay with credit card.
Full service gas at regular prices.
They will pump your gas (required--you can't pump your own gas here), wash your windows, check your oil.
Staff is friendly and helpful.
$37 out the door for smog incl tax and fees. don't forget your online coupon! i swear, in and out in 12.2 minutes. sure its a tiny place, but they're efficient as hell. a smile and a friendly hello sure goes a long way to getting good service. i mean come on, they're mechanics, and i haven't generally found mechanics that were in good moods early in the morning (except at lexus, mbz, or porsche dealerships where you're paying an arm and a leg, so they better be smiling). sure its just a smog, so i can't vouch for the other service, but this place, literally does the smog in minutes, which means you don't have to set aside a whole afternoon to wait and gripe about the crappy accomodations of the service station.
i also like getting gas here, as it's generally one of the cheaper ones in sf (there's cheap gas in sf??). what really baffles me is this is like the LAST station on earth that has full service attendants. maybe it's b/c they have so many customers that it's just faster to have them pump it for you than it is for you to do it yourself (probably so), but they're quite nice attendants. so all things considered, thats just another reason to be coming to this station.
smog, in and out in minutes. gas, in and out in minutes. and you don't even need to get out of your car. how sweet is that?
Pretty competitive prices and good quality gas.
I've had smog tests here in the past. Convenient location along Hwy. 1, though a bit of patience is needed getting in and out of the station during peak transit hours.
Worth it. It's one of the cheapest 76 stations I've seen around town. The sister 76 across the street seems quicker to access.
Had my thermostat fixed at 19th Ave. 76
I talked to Joe, he is straight up and knowledgeable.
Very disappointed with the service when I went there for a smog check. In the past I have referred many people here because of the price of smog checks and the decent service. This all changed today when I brought my grandparents car there to get a smog done. The check engine light was on when I picked up my grandparents 2003 Jetta with 17,000 miles on it. I didn't think much about it and brought it in for a smog check. They took the car and smogged it. Then they told me it was $18 and that the car did not pass the smog because the check engine light was on. They basically told me what I already knew. They said they would diagnose it for me for $125. No re test unless I had the work done there. I felt like they were just trying to get me to do the work there! If the technician had told me that they could not pass the car with the check engine light on, I would not have done the test until I got the problem fixed! Instead, they tested the car to tell me something I already knew! The check engine light is right next to the odometer which they took the mileage from. They stated they did not see the check engine light but they would be happy to do the repairs. When I spoke to them about the whole issue, they again offered a free retest if I did the work there. The diagnostic for the vehicle would be to plug a computer into the car and read the fault codes. 2 minutes and they wanted $125 for it plus the cost of repair on top of that! Needless to say, I am not recommending this place to anyone again and am going to post all this info on my blog as well as have everyone I know share my experience as well!
It was a chilly night. The usual SF evening. When I pulled up to with my weekend rental for my weekend getaway, a service attendant guy asks me what octane do I want. I looked at him up and down.
"Oh? this is full service?" I asked.
"The service is included" He replied.
Uneasy with the fact that my last memory of Full Service at the gas station is over 20 years ago, I got back in my car and sat there while he wiped my back windsheid. The gas pumping was prompt and he handed me my receipt afterwards.
Must admit. Full service was nice and I tipped him. I would have tipped him more except he only washed my back windows and not the front. Perhaps I got too little gas that he didn't have time to get to the front.
In any case, I always come to this station cuz it's the cheapest decent gas in SF. Now, with even better service. Just drive up.
Their gas here is cheaper than most big name stations in the city.
The staff will fuel your car during the day.
Their pumps are fast compared to the 76 that is across the street.
Be wary of suggestions the owner might make when you bring in your car for any type of maintenance. I went in for a basic oil change on my new car, and the owner was pretty pushy about pitching me synthetics and special filters, trying to jack up the price of a basic oil change to about $70 for my new car. I know I'm not the most knowledgable with cars, but I've certainly performed oil changes on my own car before and know what my car needs and doesn't need. My father also experienced a similar incident at this place.
Also, double-check the oil change reminder sticker they place on your windshield. The mileage written for your next oil change is always around 2000 miles from your current mileage. Nevermind that some newer cars don't need an oil change for 4 or 5k, the mileage on their stickers fell far short of even 3000 miles both times I had my oil changed there.
full service for regular price.... shit where can you still find full service these days?
sure they dont check your oil, you wouldnt be able to in my car anyways, theres no dipstick. HA.
good location, right down the the street from underdogs.
This used to be my top spot to get gas whenever I drove by and my tank was low..the price for gas was always cheaper here than it was anywhere else AND the best part....they have someone pumping my gas for me- it's not often that you get a full service gas station!
all on the low and still ridin dirty, dirty in the 19th ave. 'set...ridin' empty...gas low....76 station callin'...to the right...to the right...pullin' over...swipin' the card as smiling "jason" comin' on over..."jason's" blue jumpsuit pulled over...
"i'll take care of the pump for you, sir.....please have a seat inside"...pumpin' gas....washing windows...handin' over of receipt...full service...
continue on drivin'....through rice cooker steam..fog.....temperatures droppin'....in the 'set....(6/1/07...91 octane...$3.75 per gallon)
What a cheat , the owner (who is on the commercial) would not honor my coupon for discount smog check because I showed it to him too late, he said I should have showed it to him before he punched it into his computer. I had to pay full price, no where did it say I had to show the coupon first. Worst experience ever, I do not recommend going there unless you want to get cheated. What's the point of issuing the coupons if you're not going to honor them, he could have easily voided his entry and reissued the receipt with discount.
I had my '92 Pontiac Sunbird (may she rest in peace) towed and repaired here quite a few times (she had a few problems in her later years). Joe (I think that's his name) was super nice to me each time. From what I can remember, the prices were very reasonable for what I had done. AND, every year they send me a Christmas card! is that cool, or what?
When I moved to this neighborhood, a friend recommended this 76 station whenever I needed a smog check, or work done to my car. When I first walked in, I was warmly greeted by Joe. He talked to me like a person and did not try to sell me any more services than those that my car actually needed. An the prices are the best in the city. Every year I return to him and his shop and totally recommend them to everyone. Even with major repair, I have usually dropped my car off by 9am and picked it up by 5:30pm - THE SAME DAY. How awesome is that? Very convenient to the N Judah so I can go to downtown for work and pick my car up in the afternoon with no problems. Thank you Joe!
