    I like Joe, he's a cool guy.

They lose a star because one of his staff is always snotty and waaayyy too protective of Joe.

(hey, he's famous on cable but he's not Justin Timberlake, ok?)

My advice for anyone new to this area: DO NOT GO TO THIS STATION FOR ANY TYPE OF SERVICE.

My girlfriend and I just moved to the Richmond/Sunset area and were looking for a place to get the oil in her car changed (a relatively simple, pain free procedure). After dropping off the car right after they opened, they told us to come back in 2 hours (a little long for an oil change). Anyway, when we returned they told us we had a temp plug in a oil pan which had to be replaced IMMEDIATELY, or else we risk our engine completely dying. So we believed him and asked for a quote for a new plug/oil pan (if the pan needed to be replaced). Sure enough, he calls back the following Monday saying the pan is now cracked and they need $700 to replace it. This seemed like a COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS PRICE to replace an oil pan that may not even need replacing. So, we took the car to another shop in my hometown I have been going to for years only to find out that the plug and the pan are completely fine. My mechanic said that if the oil leaks at all, we can just replace the cap for cheap and be fine.

Moral of the story, these people are CROOKS who will lie to you saying you need expensive service, thus STEALING YOUR MONEY.

The boyfriend came here for a smog check. We had a newspaper coupon which the clerk (manager?) at the counter took as I was filling out the service form. After the smog check was done and it was time to pay, the clerk charged us full price. I told him about the coupon and he was asking where the coupon was. How the heck am I suppose to know where you put the coupon. I don't even work here. Also, how can you not recognize the same person from an hour earlier that handed you a coupon. (There was only one coupon in their coupon bag.) Even though he didn't flat out say it, his tone implied I was trying to rip him off.

If you come here with a coupon, be sure to keep it and hand it over when you pay so you do not have to go through the horrible experience as I did.

This is odd...I thought I reviewed this place a while ago, but maybe not as it doesn't seem to be here.

This review is for the repair side of the operation.  19th Avenue 76 might be a great place to have your car fixed, but I'll never know.  Came here with one of my older cars earlier this year to do a smog test.  Can't remember if I needed Test Only and they didn't do Test Only or if I needed a regular smog and they only did Test Only, but either way, they couldn't do the test I needed.  Not their fault.

Regardless, since I was there, I asked the guy (yes, the same smiling guy you see on TV) how much it would cost to check the igntion timing for me.  I have a timing gun at home and it only takes a matter of seconds to do it, but thought that since I was here, I'd get it checked just in case for the upcoming test.  It's a real simple process...one wire clamps to the plus side of the car battery, one wire clamps to the minus side of the battery and one wire easily clamps onto the #1 spark plug wire.  Point the timing gun at the timing mark and see where the line is.  So simple that even a cave man could do it.

Guess how much that TV celebrity quoted me to do this?  FORTY-FIVE FRICKING DOLLARS!  Yes, and that was with a straight face...are you kidding me?  NOT!  The place was empty too, it's not like he was crowded or overwhelmed with work and trying to discourage me.  I wasn't expecting any freebies, but I wasn't expecting to get fleeced either.  Honestly, if I owned a shop or if I was in front of my house working on a car and a neighbor came up and asked, I would have just grabbed it and zapped it in seconds for free.  Trying to charge me that much for something so easy and simple is an insult to my intelligence as a car guy.  Needless to say, it left a really bad taste in my mouth and I declined.  What next, a sale on thermostats for air-cooled Volkswagens?  Muffler bearings?  Tail-light oil?  What happened to the good guy image you were trying to portray on TV?

Sorry bud, but if this is what you charge for something so simple that takes a matter of seconds, there is no way in hell I will ever come here for any sort of repair and  I will remember this every time I pass by or see one of your expensive commercials.

Cheapest, quickest smog check ever (on a Saturday morning)! Even if you act dumb (though I wasn't, i really didn't know what to do with my documents), they'll help out and get the service done as fast as they can, so long as you treat them like a neighbor :)

I like coming here because it's cheap and reliable and they pump your gas for you as a courtesy.  My only issue is, they don't ALWAYS pump your gas.  sometimes i'm halfway out of the car and the guy rushes over and i think, maybe i should have stayed in and waited.  Other times, i've sat wondering if someone was coming out to pump and then see them all chatting and hanging out inside.  Kinda confusing, maybe they need a sign with instructions.

Bought a used car that needed quite a bit of work.  I received a quote of nearly $1,900 for all of the repairs from my local service station.  I received a coupon in the mail from 19th Ave. 76 Station that included a timing belt replacement and brake job discount - both of which the car needed.  I had seen their ads on TV so I decided to give them a try and boy am I glad I did.

I got the work done in a very reasonable amount of time, no extra or hidden charges, and the work came in at almost $750 less than my first quote.

They were curteous and professional to boot - I am a very happy 19th Ave. 76 Station customer.

I decided to try a new place to get my oil changed, since my normal mechanic is in Belmont. When we got to the shop we dropped off the car and they told us our car would be ready in about 2 hours... Not a good beginning. But we decided to go ahead and do some Christmas shopping in the meantime. We never received a call in the 3 hours we were gone. When we arrived they were friendly enough but the mechanic told me that there was a temporary cap in my oil pan and that it wasn't safe to keep driving with. I asked him if it would be difficult to replace and he said that he needed to see if the pan was stripped. I agreed to let him take a look and told him to get back to me.

That was on Saturday. Monday afternoon I got a call saying that my oil pan had a crack in it. Weird...you would think they noticed that when they changed the oil on Saturday. Then they told me it would be $700 to fix. I decided to take it back to my old mechanic and see what he had to say since it seemed kind of weird how they were finding these really major problems after they did the initial oil change.

When I went to pick up my car, I brought up the oil pan crack and told them that I don't understand how it can be cracked today when it wasn't on Saturday when I brought it in. They changed their story immediately and said that they mixed up two cars. The mechanic then told me that there was leaking around my cap. I thought to myself, weird because there wasn't any leaking on Saturday and he definitely didn't say there was any.

The great part is that I brought my car back to my old mechanic and he said that there wasn't anything wrong with it. No leaks, no cracks and using the temp cap isn't dangerous as I had obviously been using it for years.

BOTTOM LINE: this place will try and scam you. Don't go here for any repairs or basic maintenance.

Thanks to this fantastic invention in San Francisco called a one-way street, me & my overactive-bladder couldn't make a single left turn on 19th Ave for 2.2mi straight.

In the city, 2.2mi = AN EFFING LONG TIME.

The problem? All the gas stations with BATHROOMS were on the left side of the street.

Then I spotted the beautiful red & blue 76 sign on my right, high in the sky, like a savior to rescue me from the embarrassment of an accident in my short white skirt.

I dashed inside, tinkled, then thanked the cute mechanic, who didn't even charge me the usual 25cents to use the bathroom :)

As of Dec 12, regular gas price is $1.65 per gallon (cash).
You can check here for updates: http://www.sanfrangasp...

Remember those days when you couldn't wait to get a
surprise freebie from the bottom of a Cracker Jack box?

You get a similar "high" when you get your gas tank filled here.
Why?  I will tell you why in a moment.

Although gas prices have dropped considerably, a penny
saved is a penny earned.  I am not saying you should
drive many miles to save a few pennies, but if you are on 19th
Avenue, consider this to be a "pit stop."

The reason some readers may not know what is full service
is that most gas stations have stopped offering it many many years ago.

For the same price of a self-service gas, an attendant comes
to your window and asks you for your desired octane and
then fills your gas up, while you sit in your car.

I am not perpetuating laziness, but it is a real benefit for people, who
hate to get their fingers dirty and to keep warm during windy days and
to stay dry during rainy days.   Also one less thing to worry about when
you have your cargo, ie your child or pet (whichever is more precious),
    in the car.

Yelper Patra B shared with me that the other station have the same
prices across the street minus the full service.

    Tips:
    * Since this location is in a high traffic area, be careful of bad drivers
and pedestrians.  I have seen accidents.
    * There is a 15% coupon on their website for auto repairs, but
I have not tried their mechanical service.

I had no idea.  I pulled up and started to get out of Chick to filler up.  I got a very puzzled look from the station attendant.  Seems he would like to pump my gas for me.  Well, then.  Be my guest.
Awesome throwback.  And at the same price as other stations in the area.

It so reminded me of when I was a little girl at grampa's house which was situated right next to the gas station he owned/operated.  He'd be out there pumping gas, washing windshields, checking oil, even in sub-zero Wisconsin winters... Grampa was awesome to watch.  And I miss him.

After a day of walking around the Golden Gate Rec Area I was pooped and running late to meet-up with my couchsurfing host, but I had to put gas. Traffic was a bitch, and all I wanted was to get in and get out quickly.

I drove for a couple blocks and came upon this 76. The gas was cheaper then the ones I had previously passed upon across the street, so I pulled in.

I was about to get out when this Asian dude asked me if I wanted to fill up. Sweet! I felt like I was in Oregon; full service station! I handed him my card and he cleaned my windows while my tank was filling up.

Full service station with self serve prices. You can't beat that when you're on a budget and running late.

**Do Not Go Here for Oil Changes**

Went for an oil change in 2003 when they were 19th avenue BP  yes it was some time ago but I'm pretty sure they're still under the same management.  They changed my oil but didn't change my filter!!  When I went to do my next oil change myself I saw a honda oil filter!  Meaning they didn't change it since they would use like a penzoil filter or something not from a dealership!

What ripoff I was only in high school too back in 2003.  Way to take advantage of a kid.

Cheaper than other gas stations in the area, has full service available, and open late - what's not to like?!

It can be a little awkward getting in and out of the parking lot for this business, and they don't have much of a convenience store, but they do inexpensive smog checks and the guys who work here are polite.

There.  I've actually reviewed a gas station.  I'm thoroughly proud of myself :)

I get my gas here because it is normally one of the cheaper gas station's on 19th ave.  One visit, I decided to have them take a look at my oil because my light was blinking and they looked available.  Anyway, they told me that I had to replace the filter and oil was leaking and also a laundry list of other things that needed to be replaced.  Strange because I just got my oil changed at firestone two months ago and they didn't mention anything.  Anyway, I took my car back to firestone and they told me that my car just burns oil faster and there was nothing wrong with it.  They just put more synthetic oil in it and said everything was fine.

My brother actually had work done here a few years ago on his Honda, sadly he found out later that the work they did was unnecessary and they jacked up the car by putting the wrong piece inside.

So sad that you need to scam customers just to make a living.   Don't trust these guys.

So, I had a problem w/ my heater not blowing warm air and my de-fogger not working. So I decided to check 76 out since I live close by and they got fair reviews on Yelp. Anyway, I called and asked if they have experience w/ this problem. Joe says yeah just bring it in. I brought my car in and let Joe know what my problem was and he says ok if just the fuse, then no charge. But if anything else it'll cost me. So I said ok just gimme a call when you find out the problem. He calls me 45 min later and says  its not the fuse, your fan is blown out. I said ok how much is the part and labor? He says $120. I said cool, do it!

An hour past and my car was ready. I came in, Joe says "with an ugly smirk..." hey gorgeous." What the f***. What do Iook like? I'm a customer. You dont say that shit to a customer?? No professionalism at all!! Anyway, so he rang me up and total was $125.  I said 'I thought it was $120. Is the extra $5 tax?' He goes "oh but originally it would have cost you $195. But I gave you a discount." I looked at him confused. I was like what?, We didnt discuss this crap over the phone. So I said whatever, paid for it, got my keys and turned on the engine. Turned on the heat, and then waited until my thermostat got warm. Maybe I just needed to warm the engine. To my surprise.... Nothing. NO DAMN THING changed since Joe supposedly figured out "the problem.

Damn, I felt like an idiot! Sat there for at  least 15 min trying to get the heater to work. I confronted Joe about it and he went to inspect ONCE AGAIN for like 10 min. He messed around w/ the radiator. I didnt know  what to say anymore, I was pissed off. I said, 'so whatever you did to my car was worthless and pointless because it's as if I never brought it to you to get fixed.' He was like 'well, what I did was fix one thing and its like trial and error. You have to eliminate some things before you figure out the actual problem. " It might be that your radiator pipe is clogged."  Man I was furious. what kind of service is this? I asked "so is it gonna cost me more to check if the radiator is clogged? He goes yes, it'll cost $195. I said forget it, this is the worst service in my life.

Talk about getting screwed by a mechanic.....because you're a female!!  This place really gets ZERO stars for sexual harassment, cheating a customer and delivering unprofessionalism. I hate it so much. I dont even wanna buy there freakin gas anymore.

I feel weird writing a review for a gas station, but I had to! I don't know if it was because it was Christmas Day, but the employee helped me fill my gas tank. Wow. I thought that only happened in New Jersey, or somewhere other than California. What a great service.

Although I didn't really need help, but I'm sure a lot of girls out there who had just gotten a manicure or whatever with their nails, will sure appreciate it.

They sure know how to get their customers to come back. Merry Christmas!

    ***BEWARE OF OVERPRICED SHOTTY WORK!!!***

I can't believe I actually went to this sleazeball for 5 years.  He has ripped me off for the last time.  $750 for replacement of an $80 part that may or may not have needed replacement is ridiculous with a capital R, especially if my car dies the day after they work on my car.  My car is now with a reputable, seemingly honest and up-front mechanic (details to follow).

I don't care how convenient this guy is to my house, how quickly he gets his crappy work done, or how many times he says "Hi Gorgeous," I will never bring my car back to him again.  He is done with the price gauging of this chica.  If I'm going to be taken advantage of, at least have the decency to buy me a nice dinner first!

These folks are "bait and switch"  experts...  They advertisr $2.75 per gallon for regular octane (87)  and they are totally out of it, they say, at 11.00 am...  Totally!...

Well, they think I will go for a higher octane, now that I am at the pump, with the gas cap off.... Bull puckey.

They have a little hand wriitne piece of paper that says "out" over the 87 octane.  The piece of paper is the size of a playing card...

They are basically crooks...  If they  DO NOT have a certain product, they should not quote a price on the big signs... They should say "NONE, at this time:".....

let me start by stating that I've only pumped gas and had my smog check here.  I'm basing my review on these two services only.  I haven't utilized their car services yet.

how many gas stations have people pump gas for you?  I worked at one many years ago and we charged more for full service.  I usually pump my gas but having someone offer to pump it for me was  refreshing.  and to top it off the gas price is the same regardless.  maybe that's why I see so many girls at this gas station.  ;)

I brought my car in for a smog check.  my car was done and given back to me in 20 mins.  now that's fast service.  there were 2 other cars ahead of me also.  it only costed me $37 for the inspection and certificate.  now that's a bargain.

Wow! What great service. I boguht my gf's car in this morning around 10am. Picked it up at 4pm.  FREE INSPECTION!

She had some bad brakes, I knew it was time for new ones. Since I own a Car performance shop, I knew what she needed and prices for labor. She needed her rotors re-surfaced and new brake pads installed. First thing I thought of, was 76 on 19th. The one between 19th and 20th Ave Judah. I bought her some brake pads from my shop and had them installed.

I had great service, maybe because I told them I worked 1/2 a block away and I knew what I was talking about. Price was great for the labor too. I would bring my own car there if I needed something done.

This is for the Smog Certification only.

I needed to get a Smog Test for my car registration renewal and did a little research on where to go.  SF has many places, however most prices range from $50 to $70 (without coupon).  Since I would rather spend my money on food or clothes, I selected the most inexpensive place to go, and that would be the 19th Ave 76 Station.  With coupong, the smog and certification comes out to $29.75. If you Google "Cheap Smog Test San Francisco", a whole listing of places will pop up along with coupons.  You'll need a coupon for this place to get a discounted rate (otherwise their normal rate is still pretty cheap).

If you go here and have longer than a 30 minute wait, there's not much of a waiting area, so I recommend taking a walk over to Irving street to kill time.  I recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Sunrise Deli, which is several blocks away.  They have the best falafel and shawarma sandwiches in SF.  There's also my favorite grocery store, 22nd & Irving Market, which has a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Also, if you're not from this part of town, make the most of your visit to this area by stopping at Kingdom of Dumpling (Asian American Food Company) at 1426 Noriega Street.  They have some of the best fresh made dumplings in SF that you could take home and cook up.

Here's the link for the coupon:

    SMOG GODS

I drove in around noon on a weekday with no appointment.

Their sign says $25.95+tax and smog fees. I paid $37.20.

I had a pleasant conversation with another customer while I waited a whopping 10 MINUTES for my car to be done.

I paid, signed a piece of paper and drove off in amazement.

I called ahead to make sure they weren't too busy. I was finally taking the plunge and needing to register my car in CA after 14 months (oops!). So emissions was the first on my list.

After searching for a cheap place to do this - hey, it's just emissions, not finding a trustworthy mechanic - I found this place. There were others that had reviews claiming to be cheap, but this place ALSO had good reviews.

I drove in, and they were busy. However as promised, they got me in quickly. This place is a small 2 garage door mechanic shop and part 76 gas station. Needless to say, the company lot is about the size of 2 matchboxes, but somehow there's enough room even during rush hour for customers to pull in and get gas while the mechanics buzz around doing their thing.

I had gone to their web site and printed out the 15% discount coupon - sorry, but I have a thing against paying full price for emissions testing. I was in and out of there in about 30 mins, and the awesome owner, who I recognized from the pics, was the one who took care of me. He seems gruff from first glance, but he warms up quickly and turned out to be just as awesome as everyone says. Joe, I think is his name. Anyway, to my surprise, he rang my bill up with a discount included before I even mentioned the coupon.

Who does that?!?!?! Joe does! He rocks. He was only about 80 cents higher than the coupon would have done, but when I busted it out, he changed it without much hassle, aside from a meaningless joke or two. ;-) I should'a known better and given it to him upfront. Sorry Joe!

I'm going to always bring my car and business back to Joe. I was so impressed with him, even dealing with a small ticket like mine, he went above and beyond. Thanks Joe!

(By the way before I get hate mail, my car passed with flying colors the first time, meaning that my car was always within the emissions standards since I've done nothing recently related to fix that. It ain't hard to keep a car well maintained.)

    UPDATE:
After perusing the rest of the reviews, there seems to be some that are very opposite my experience. This place seems to be one of those polarizing places. I will keep that in mind if I ever get a larger amount of work done in the future, but I will hope for the best.

$27 cash, for smog check and includes certificate and electronic transfer. NEED COUPON FOR THIS PRICE. (Coupon says addition charge for '95 and older and specific model cars. If it matters I have a 4cyl FWD). If you don't have a coupon it's $42 with certificate and electronic transfer. San Francisco residents know where to get the coupon, they are located in any populated area of the city.

(they perform smog check, not smog test, check your dmv registration)

Took less than 30minutes, 2 people ahead of me.

Pretty competitive prices and good quality gas.

I've had smog tests here in the past.  Convenient location along Hwy. 1, though a bit of patience is needed getting in and out of the station during peak transit hours.

Worth it.  It's one of the cheapest 76 stations I've seen around town.  The sister 76 across the street seems quicker to access.

These guys are fast, courteous, and honest. I compared the recent required services to my car with five other places, and they came out to be the least expensive. They finished my car within 1 day.
    Check'em out!

    Super friendly, cheap, and fast!

Smog check (including certificate and transfer) for under 40 bucks.  I walked to Starbucks, bought a coffee, walked back to 76 and drove off.  It couldn't have taken more than 15 minutes ( at around 4pm on a weekday).  The owner and another worker there were very friendly. Should have given them my Starbucks tip!

I used to brought my car to Joe for service and I had bad feeling being ripped off each time after the repair until I said enough is enough, and now I don't even visit the gas station not even for gas. I've heard many bad things about him from people that dealt with him in the past.  Stay away from DISHONEST person like him.

I've been taking my car's to Joe and Gina ever since I've had my drivers license (23 Years).  Joe is normally at this location, and I always know there will be NO surprises with the service and repairs done to my car.

I took my S500 for a brake job today, Joe told me what to expect ,and a quote which to normally within the overall cost.  He always promises to have the repairs done within a day, unless the parts need to be special ordered.

All the mechanics there are friendly, and will explain the repair job in detail.  This is the ONLY place I take me cars to.

they have good reviews on yelp. No wonder. Cause they have good service and you pay and they full your gas for you. this is the way every
station should do it.. I love putting gas for my car here . This is my first gas station choice.
