What a little hidden gem. If you are not from Orange you may never have known this little bit was here. I just happened to be working on an assignment in this forgotten town and the client told me to try this place. I knew the guy was good with business but he also has good food sense!
This small cafe is located in a grand old house located on the main street. When you walk in the front door, it is like you are visiting an old friend who is about to make you lunch to eat by the fireplace (yes and it is actually wood burning!!). They have a counter to order at and look at the wonderful assortment of bakery items available. I had a piece of homemade cake (Yup, homemade I said, old school !!!).
The menu is filled with salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, grilled wraps, and paninis. I have been here twice and have yet to be disappointed. The first time I had the sausage and pepper panini on tomato-Asiago focaccia bread. It was excellent to say the least and accompanied with a little bag of chips.
On my next visit I had a buffalo chicken wrap, also a great sandwich. My companion had a bowl of the clam chowder and was blown away. He spent half of our time showing me EVERY piece of clam (yes they were quite big) he had in his soup! And proclaimed that it had to be the best chowder he has every had. The owner and he conversed about the merits of chowder vs. bisque as we were leaving.......
That brings me to the most pivotal item for me........ the service. This made me have, have, have to give the five stars to this place.
Our first visit showed me that this place had good food, the staff was very helpful, and the atmosphere is quaint. But the second visit was the one. The hours are kind of weird, they open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 6:00am to 2:00pm and then open again at 4:00pm to 8pm. It happened to be a Friday at 2:10 that we stopped to see if they were still open. The guy said they were closing but he would take care of us. Wow is all I can say.
My little places at home would have given me the stink eye and you know the wish of a slow demise. But this poor guy, who you could see was trying very hard to clean up and figure out his money, just took our order with a smile. And told us to go and take a seat by the fireplace (7 degrees in Orange that day).
So when you do have a chance to go to this little piece of cafe heaven and see the sign welcoming you to Orange, MA.; where it says they are the friendly place BELIEVE it!
(They are also open on Monday to Wednesday from 6:00am to 2pm, closed Sundays.) -

if you can catch them at a time when they're open, you will be treated to some of the best cinnamon buns and the friendliest service you can find.
a real diamond among pebbles, i tell you. -

If you're looking for breakfast in Orange, this is the place to go. Beyond being the only other option from Dunkin Donuts - this is actually a great little place to enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich.
