I was going to finally visit the famed Hundo one night, except we saw that the entire place was totally deserted-- around 10pm!  That is, aside from literally one man sitting at the bar with his head bowed, lone-dude-in-Nighthawks-style, but with strange neon purple lights overhead instead of diner tungsten.  Then I realized that no one has really talked about going there since the year started, besides for specific student-groupy events-- especially since [the excellent] Bat 17 opened nearby.

Hmm.  I hear 1800 will be closing its doors at the end of the year.

Hundo is a place to head if you are an NU student and don't like to travel far for a bar.  If you go on an off night, you can grab a table with friends and have waitress service, although it is a bit slow.  If you head in on a night where everyone is out, prepare to wait to get into this place.

Although my friends have all graduated, I feel like hitting this place up on Alumni weekend is not beneath them.

Hundo doesn't try to be a high-end bar. It embraces what it is -- a shit hole. But it's a fun shit hole, with a juke box! The drinks aren't all that great, but they're cheap. And do us cheap college students really care if our vodka-tonics taste like rotting sewage water? I've always had fun at Hundo. It's always fairly busy, but on the popular going out nights (Friday and Saturday), it gets really busy. Prepare to black out your college days!

How I didn't swipe my Hundo v-card until senior year, no one will never know.  But this is a huge go-to place for NU kids almost any night, as it is in walking distance from campus and off campus, but especially Sundays, Tuesdays, even Fri/Sat.  It's owned by the same family that owns Mark II (the deuce), so clearly they're continuing to capitalize on NU kids parents' incomes.  Needless to say, this bar is relatively small, with some booth/table seating, a couple couches, a couple high boys, the bar, karaoke on tuesdays (which can be hilarious if some of the locals sing, or even wasted nu kids), drink specials every day of the week.  Outdoor seating is nice in the warm weather.

Go only on off nights unless you want to be ignored by a bunch of drunk NU greek scene kids.

It's a very chill place, and they have DM (dance marathon) trivia every Tuesday nights, so it's something to do. The bartenders are all really cool, and one of them makes a kickass drink called "Passion." IT's very laid back, so it's a good place to go with a few friends and actually carry on a conversation. Drinks aren't too bad either (my friend's screwdriver was $3)

shoot me was all i could think when i was there.

i went with a pal because it was her friends birthday and we had thought it was a private party for her friend and it turned out not to be private at all.  the placed was jam packed with young college students that kept talking about pregaming in their room or their greek soro husbands haha.

2 bathrooms in the place with at least a ten minute wait, the place was freezing, got half my drink spilled on me because the girls were just drunk and obnoxious.  at one point at the bar when i grabbed a drink this chick was just standing there with an attitude because i was in her way....hello, say excuse me!  i just laughed and walked away with my $5 beer in my plastic cup =X

i wont be back.

How I love the Hundo. Outdoor seating, no-frills, unpretentious atmosphere. Sometimes live music. Oh, did I mention karaoke or trivia night? $10 CC minimum may be Chicago-standard, but it still bites.

The outdoor seating is key, but this isn't the only place in Evanston that you can go for it.  You go to a place like the 1800 Club to hang out with friends.  Don't let the pretentious name put you off.

Great atmosphere for sitting down with friends and having a drink. Tuesday night trivia rocks!
