The jalopeño burger (with extra peppers) was excellent! Just spicy enough, and the peppers had excellent flavor, and really stood out on the burger. The fries were good, but the real stars were the sweet potato fries, and I enjoyed the dipping sauce they provided.

Lagunitas IPA on tap! And they have a great patio for enjoying the weather.

The main thing that keeps me from rating this place 5 stars is the price, but perhaps that's partly due to its location.

Despite that, 17th street is still something I'll treat myself to when I'm in the area!

I stopped by today and had the grilled vege wrap to go and I must say - it was the best wrap I have ever had! Lots of great grilled veges, a perfect combo of rice and beans and it came with this delicious red pepers sauce to pour over it.

And as I ordered it go, I was not sure what to expect - and I was blown away! And they cut it in half, which is great for a large wrap - I could pick it up and eat it - and I got 2 meals from it.

Personally, I loved all of the flavors and plentiful veges. Service was great and friendly. I will return!

This place has a good sized patio, cold beer on tap and relatively good service.
The good is just alright.  If I had yelped within the first 5 minutes of eating my burger, I would have rated 5 stars because I was starving.  As my hunger was cured, I realized that the burger was nothing special.
Two people in our party ordered the jalapeno burgers (which were not even spicy) and two ordered the mushroom burgers.  I think the burger patties themselves are not made of the best ground beef.  I found a few "mystery pieces" in my burger :- / The mushrooms lacked flavor, I think they need a little salt before adding them to the burger.  The jalapenos were somehow not hot at all?  I ordered onion rings with my burger and they were delicious!  Crispy and golden brown.  Like little rings of fried heaven!
The best part of the meal?  Lagunitas IPA on tap!!
I would stop by again, simply because of the beer and the patio.
Food is mediocre, onion rings are good, beer is delish.

I've been on a quest to find a good turkey burger here in town. I love burgers, but since I don't eat beef, it kind of limits my ability to partake in the all-American pastime of burgers. The latest target in my sights was the 17th Street Grille.

I was a bit skeptical of the 17th Street Grille--my fellow Yelpers haven't exactly been raving about this spot. But I was willing to give it a shot for that elusive turkey burger.

The good news is 17th Street Grille does indeed have a turkey burger on the menu. And that's about where the good news ends, sadly.

The burger wasn't all that flavorful--the patty needed more seasoning, a common problem with turkey patties. I ordered my turkey burger with cheddar and bacon. The bacon was overcooked and crunchy; the cheddar was bland. The condiments--just lettuce and onion for me--were likewise pretty bland, like biting into Sytrofoam. And the bun was stale and had way too many sesame seeds for me.

The fries weren't offensive, but I've had better fries frozen from the grocery store.

What good is a burger without a shake? I ordered a cookies-and-cream milkshake to go with my burger. It was blended a little too much, if you ask me. I mean what's a cookies-and-cream shake without the occasional chunk of Oreo cookie. Bummer. I was also a little disappointed that it came in a plastic takeaway cup, even though I was clearly dining in--it just felt a little wasteful.

I'm rather confused how the 17th Street Grille can boast "best burgers in town" on their storefront when my experience--and the experiences of many other Yelpers--clearly indicate otherwise.

The Grille will do in a pinch, but there are far better places around town to get a burger. Take my advice and head out to Seaside for Phat Burger--it's cheaper than the 17th Street Grille and far tastier.

BAD service. I'm so glad that I didn't eat at this place after realizing that added bacon and avocado cost $1.99!! Are you kidding me?? Sure you had that info on the menu, but no customer will have the time to read through every single line. Instead of asking "would you like bacon and avocado on your burger", which is clearly misleading (it sounds like it's free), you could have asked "would you like to add bacon and avocado for $1.99." When I confronted the waitress, she was rude and impatient. I wish I could give negative five stars for you. Boo!!! By the way, you should add "WORST service in town" on your banner.

My 12 year old and I drop $23 on a burger and fries with a soda and chicken fingers, fries and another soda.  Really? That's a medium and 2 drinks at Giannis, with enough left over to get ice cream.

The fingers are the 2.5 oz variety. For the price I paid, they should at least upgrade a size. The burger? IQF 70/30. I didn't see any Smart and Final brands around, the sure sign an operator doesn't care how their food tastes.

Best burger? No way, no how.

The lady was nice. The food sucked.

The banner proclaiming best wraps and burgers needs an asterisk.

The soda was good. My sprite had hints of both lemon and lime in it. It was limony.

My daughter said her soda was good also.

Service is extremely slow. We ordered at 1:25, and we were still waiting at 2. Make that 2:10. Make that 2:15. There's a reason they make you pay before being served. Mine came 5 minutes after the rest of my party's food. My wrap contained hard, uncooked rice. Food and drinks are overpriced, but that's to be expected in a touristy area.

Dis. Gust. DING. The grilled "chicken" bowl was inedible: Bland, dry, and was that even chicken I was served? It was a composite, for sure.

The only thing worth eating isn't on the menu, so if you go, well? I don't know what to tell you.

None too impressed with the burger I was served. Very plain, very standard overall, even with the added jalapeno and bacon. Certainly not worthy of 18 dollars for a combo-- I'm really not a cheap eater, but I'd just as soon get a better burger at Carl's for half that.

My husband and I were here Saturday night.  The place isn't much to look at but our burgers were good.  I had the pesto burger and fries.  I thought it was very creative and yummy--and my fries were hot and crispy.  My husband had the classic with bacon, cheese and avocado with onion rings.  All were fantastic.  Yes, I've had really good burgers in other places, but these hit the spot.  And our service was great.  The way the place is set up, I assumed we'd go pick up our own food at the counter and bus our table afterward.  Our food was delivered and table was cleared.  All we did was enjoy the food.

I received a really lame message in regard to my original review of 17th st Grille, (please read below). I was called a racist because I mentioned George Lopez's name and because I wrote "language barrier". HOLLY is reporting me because these were her friends and I hurt their feelings. What a bunch of B.S. There IS a language barrier and I mentioned G. Lopez because I heard it was his and his cousin's restaurant! If that's true and he has money invested then I have even HIGHER expectations because Lopez is an upstanding man and I would expect him to be ashamed of running such a crappy business. I believe if you read all of these reviews you will find that most people think this place sucks. So, HOLLY I hope you sent messages to everyone.

Bad nachos. Weak salad. Burger was ok. I don't know what their chicken nachos were, except bad !!! Asked for crispy fries, drenched and soggy. The chicken was not really chicken at all. We got three items for 35.00 bucks, and they forgt all the condiments . This place is trying to scrimp and save money. They won't get any more of mine. I'll go find a taco bell and carl's jr. next time.

EXTREMELY BAD!!! Really bad food, a waste of $40.00. The family and I were hanging at the beach and decided to get food. I was driving to one of our family favorites when I drove past this place. Listening to my hungry stomach I decided to give 17th Street Grille a try. We got our food to go and headed back to the beach. All of us had one or two bites before realizing that it was going to make us sick. Nothing worst than the taste of OLD FROZEN MEAT. We quickly gathered the food from our children and threw it into the garbage can. What a waist of forty dollars. This place has more 1-stars on Yelp than any restaurant I have ever seen. The only reason the over all rating isn't 1-star is that the owner or employees must be giving it 5-stars every so often. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Tourist Trap.

The outdoor patio adds a nice touch for having lunch outside or an evening dinner by the fire. However the service is extremely and the food is extremely high priced. For the price one would expect something over top and wanting to make you come back again and again. Instead I got the opposit feeling!

Sunny day in Pacific Grove and hunger pangs rise up.  Where to go?  Same old places?  Breakfasty places that are well-known.  Hmmm.  Dilemma.  17th Street Grill looks interesting.  Given their banners proclaiming best burgers and wraps.  Sounds appealing.

    Alas, it was not.

The atmosphere is a bit grim.  The choices on the menu are uninventive and common.  They are friendly enough--although they don't provide the great customer service they ought to in this economy by offering energy and a smile.  They insisted on giving us a plastic number despite the fact that there was only one other couple in the whole place and they already had their food.

We sat outside hoping to warm up.  The side salad I ordered instead of fries came relatively quickly in a foam bowl and with a plastic fork.  Not very eco-friendly.  The effort that went into the salad was reminiscent of my college days just out of the dorms.  Romaine lettuce, packaged shredded carrots, and diced tomatoes.  Given our proximity to the nation's salad bowl, you'd think there would be better.

Our burgers arrived shortly thereafter--delivered with a perfunctory demeanor by the server/proprietor.  We had to ask for ketchup.

My turkey burger with swiss was adequate.  Just okay.  Not overly flavorful and definitely not the "smoked turkey" as advertised.  My GF got the tropic burger with a sweet and sour sauce and onion ring on top.  She agreed that it was just okay.  Not really spectacular.  The fries were ordinary.

We both could name at least three other burger places that are far superior.  We both also agreed that we would not return to 17th Street Grille.

Sunny day in PG--choose the other locales rather than this one.

I was visiting Pacific Grove with my gf and after trouncing around a bit at Lover's Point we became hungry. Everything looked pretty overpriced so we ended up swinging by this place which seemed reasonable.

I ordered the blue cheese burger medium rare. I got a medium well burger with so much low quality blue cheese that I couldn't taste anything else.

I ordered a milkshake that still had little bits of freezer burn squirreled in it.

The onion rings were fine, but not good enough to be counted as a saving grace.

Outside there was a nifty fireplace that had been turned into a sitting area which was pretty nice, but was oddly designed for the purpose of eating: no leg room, very low table area, and the hood for the fire was very low (but at least covered in pool noodles for patron protection.)

I suppose this place could be considered beach cuisine and for some people that means to lower your expectations, but I don't think that's fair for either particpants in this exchange of sustenance.

    Pet Friendly - 5 stars

Any restaurant with a huge sign out front, "We love pets. Dog welcome on our patio." is ok in my book. They could serve rat poison and I'd be thrilled.

I agree with all the other reviewers re: the food being just decent. Yep - nothing special about their burgers and fries. Nice relaxing environment to sit with your dog and enjoy a meal.

The patio is terrific and servers are very friendly with the dogs. Great location in downtown Pacific Grove.

It might have been "the best burger in town" once, but I'd rather get a fast food burger than eat here: it'd be every bit as "good" and cheaper. (Nota bene: this place is overpriced.)

I was really turned off by the staff because the service was poor. Their first language is not English, which in and of itself is not necessarily a problem. It can be a problem, however, depending on where those non-native speakers are from.

    Houston, we have a problem.

(Yes, yes, I know--you can get bad service from natives, and excellent service from foreigners--but you can't get either one of those here). Why is it that I so seldom see people who were born and raised here working in local restaurants?

The main things going for this place are its location and its outdoor dining area--neither of which make the food--or prices--any better. Unless you really need to sit outside, you're better off trying someplace else. The closest good burgers are at the Red House cafe, or RG Burger in downtown Monterey. If you want someplace to take your hound, go to just about anywhere in Carmel.

You'll be glad you didn't waste your money here.

Lots of banners and staff shirts proclaiming the best burgers and wraps in town.

Given that this is PG, I doubt there's much competition, so I'm not going to contradict their claim.

Nice location down town, with the choice of eating outside. Given the recent economic turmoil, downtown PG has been a bit of a ghost town, so it was nice to see this place with most tables full.

The burgers are pretty decent (the bun being the downfall) , the regular sandwiches are a bit poor but the onion rings are freakin' awesome.

Check this place if you're in the mood for some sort of burger or you're a fan of the onion ring, otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

The prices are a little high for what you get, but again, those onion rings were awesome.

Came across this joint by accident... my partner & I were cruising down the Pacific Coast on July 4th, it was late in the afternoon and most places either closed for the day or the kitchen were closed for lunch. So, we stop by and considering the banner claiming the Best Burger in Town, i had to try it out... I had the mushroom burger with cheddar, OMG, its one of the BEST burger I had in a long time! Self-made patty, reasonable size that you can actually bite into, juicy and just right seasoning! I didnt even put ketchup in it, already good as is! As for the fries, eh... nothing special.

My partner has the beef wrap, OK people its not the usual "healthy" wrap, its a huge burrito. Now, you can skip this altogether... I'm just surprised though coz most of the staff are Hispanic, they seems to be able to come out with great burger but not the burrito... go figure! The rice and black beans are just too dry and tasteless, over stuffed and there's not even quacamole or enough sour cream to moist the stuffing... and guess what, they give you those ginger & garlic chilli sauce (use mainly in chinese restaurants) on the side, what are they thinking!

However, the staff are very friendly, so, no complain but dont expect any table services though, this is just a neighborhood burger joint where you order at the counter, take a number and pay... then wait for your order to be delivered at your table.

Stopped here for lunch on the way back from Pebble Beach, lured by the sign that it is the best burger in town, and they were probably right... (though, it is a small town)

I had the jalapano burger, he had the blue pig, both were great.  I actually thought my jalapeno burger was among better ones I've had, fresh chopped jalapeno but still not overwhelmingly hot, I was impressed.

Its a number on the table type place, not a full service, but the service was great, they were aware of where table were and weren't open and helped you to get one and were generally very attentive and gracious.

I would definitely stop here again for a good burger and friendly service!

I like this place only because its fast, close to home and friendly.  It's one of the places that you go to because its convenient, definitely not a destination.

The menu has starters, burgers, wraps, salads and bowls.  If you are smart, stay away from all but the apps and burgers.  The wraps are pretty dry and the bowls are just okay.  The burgers are okay, but its the toppings that make the meal okay. If you like Pesto, try the pesto burger.

We noticed while we were eating that most of the business here is takeout as the majority of the food prepared was through phone orders.  They have a sign outside claiming the best burgers in town... I hate to believe that's true.

This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. Mediocre is a compliment to the food, overpriced is a compliment to the value.  Disgusting is a compliment to the dog hair floating in the wind and mayonnaise containers sitting in the sun.

Yuck. My least favorite restaurant in Pacific Grove. The food is nothing but greasy and gross. The only good thing about this place is their outdoor patio with fire pit, but half the time they won't even light the thing, so what's the point? I think the only reason they stay in business is because their location is great and the town is full of tourists who give it a shot when they don't want to go out to another fine-dining restaurant.

17th Street Grille bills itself as a lunch and dinner place with the "Best Hamburgers, Quesadillas, and Wraps in Town!!"  and I, for one, agree.  Although it's a bit on the pricey side with not much indoor ambiance, the tasty grub and an inviting outdoor patio with firepit and outside heaters make the little corner eatery well worth sampling.

My amazing dining companion ordered the "Tropic Burger" with Oriental sauce, jack cheese and 2 onion rings.  The half-pound dish also came with lettuce, tomato, sliced red onions, pickles and a serving of fries or salad.  He chose the salad and that came with a choice of dressing, tomatoes, carrots and romaine lettuce.  Price:  $9.99.

Since we were on vacation and splurging a bit with calories, he also ordered beer-battered, deep-fried onion rings.  Price: $6.50.

I chose the "Greek Chicken Wrap," a 14-inch spinach tortilla filled with tomato, red onions, feta cheese, black olives, black beans, brown rice and Italian dressing with grilled chicken, of course.  Price: $8.99.

We each quenched our thirst with 32-ounce diet soda that came in colored plastic tumblers with snap-on lids and straws.  Price:  $3.00 each.

We were a bit taken aback by the $31.48 ticket yet our overpriced mood changed quickly when the food arrived and we sunk our teeth into the juicy burger and scrumpious wrap. After Mmm-ing and Ahhh-ing subsided, he split his burger, I split my wrap and we traded halves so the other could share in our mouthwatering finds.  Both of us dug into the large basket of onion rings that we dipped in the Oriental sauce.

We'd definitely go back and like to try one of their seafood specials, like crab cakes or calamari sandwich and definitely some clam chowder in a bread bowl. They offer other soups (vegetable and chicken noodle), quesadillas filled with chicken or grilled mushrooms aor even grilled salmon, bowls with grilled veggies or an assortment of meats and poultry, desserts like white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and milkshakes, also coffee, tea, soda, hot cocoa, beer on tap and red and white wine. Comfort food at its best!

Let's start off with the service: Non-existent. Apparently, if you look Mexican (I do) but don't speak Spanish (apologies for not knowing the language of a country I wasn't born in, I'm trying, really), they won't give you basic customer service. The people who work here are racist and it was very obvious because we were nothing but polite and cordial in our behavior towards them and what we got in return was our plates slammed on the table, didn't ask if we wanted drink refills, etc. My boyfriend had a very dry, bland burger that was overpriced. I had clam chowder that was straight out of a Progresso can for an insane price (I think it was like $14 for a bowl with crackers). It's been a year, but we will never return. My first impression of this place was that it's a dive, but I'm willing to pay $$$$ if the food is delicious, but the tacky, outdated decor, rude "service", shitty food, and lack of silverware (they finally brought me a plastic spoon), and yes the communication barrier, makes this the worst place to eat in PG. Avoid by all means possible. Take your business to McDonald's (I don't normally recommend this), at least you'll get your money's worth.

Ended up eating here since the lines where we wanted to eat was just too long. We could have saved ourselves a few bucks and ate at a fast food joint. I enjoyed the crisp cold beer while I waited for my food. Now my food was sort of a dissapointment. For the amount we spent I expected a buger so large and juicy that I would not be able to eat it all. Instead I was given a seemingly grilled frozen patty with excessive blue cheese dressing smoothering my burger. And the sweet potato fries...I make better at home. Next time we will be patient and wait for a table where we really wanted to go.

    Great burgers!

They are not Saint John's burgers in Sunnyvale, but they are definitely the best burgers in this area!

The staff was extremely friendly and polite and we had a great tine here!  They let you have your dog with you on the patio and they have a central fire pit and heat lamps to keep you warm on these cold December nights.

The burgers are really good and you can create your own or go with one of their named burgers.  I created my own classic cheddar cheeseburger with bacon and I was thoroughly satisfied!  The bacon was DELICIOUS and they heaped it on the burger along with enough cheese that was dripping down the sides of the burger.  They serve the burgers open faced with the lettuce, tomatoes, onion and pickles on the side and the condiments are on the table so that you can control what goes on your burger and in which proportions.  The fries were nothing unique, but they were WAY tasty and overall we had a GREAT experience here!

You can also phone-in your orders...

We will definitely be back to try another burger!

We were craving food after all day at the AT&T and didn't want to go to one of the 10 different Italian restaurant in PG all with similar menus.  So we opted for the burger place on the corner.  It seemed like a good choice and we were hungry.

They advertised hand formed burgers and battered deep fried onion rings.  That's all you have to say!!  I ordered a beer on tap which was nice and my burger RARE with mushrooms, bacon and Swiss cheese.

They have a nice outdoor fireplace to sit by on cold days or nights.  We got our food and started grubbing.  Other than my burger was cooked through all the way it was actually still juicy.  The cheese was melted perfectly and the mushrooms were pretty good.  I have my doubts about the hand formed part but my GF liked the onion rings so........................it's a little pricey to but it is PG so............

If your hungry and want a burger and a draft beer head on over.

I got the classic burger. After all, they call themselves a grille, they should have good burgers. Although it was good, it wasn't nine dollars good. With a drink, it was more than $11, though their cup is large, re-useable (but not in the bring-it-back-and-get-a-refill-on-your-next-visit sense) and shaped like a typical Coke cup. Oh, and don't get the lemonade. As with many peninsula restaurants, the water is incredibly chlorinated and you can definitely taste it.

Maybe I'll give them another shot and try the fish quesadilla.

I woke up from a nap and was hungry and craving a Jalipino burger.
I drove 60 + miles one way to get one.
Theres enough Jalipino on it with out burning your mouth.
I like to sit outside at the table where I can see the ocean.
High priced tho, $16 for burger fries and a soda.

Friendly service & good hand-prepped cheeseburgers and onion rings (didn't skimp on cheese either).  Fries were hot, crunchy and not hand-cut.  Skip the canned-tasting soup and coffee.  Go to Fourniers across the street for fresh, organic coffee, fabulous lunches &  HOMEMADE SOUP...  Even the noodles are homemade).

I've concluded this is over-priced for it's  overall value.  I don't get the lure of this place. That said, if you're in PG & want a tasty burger on styrofoam  & rings,  This is worth a try.

My wife and I moved to Monterey early summer 2010.  We live very near Pacific Grove. We shop and bank in downtown PG.  We love good burgers and were intrigued by the "best burger" add posted by this burger shop.  To cut to the chase, this had to be the worse burger we've ever had, and the size for the money was pathetic.
A cup or two of soggy onion rings, a miniature frozen turkey burger was the size of a small sausage patty not counting that either of us believe the burgers were 100% meat.  We headed for McDonalds to get the taste out of our mouths.  All this and watery cokes for $28.  Avoid this place.

I love this place.  You can sit outside with your dog and soak up the sun.  The people that work there are so friendly.  They have a TV inside if you want to watch the Sunday game and have a great wrap or burger.

My favorite thing to order from them is their Spicy Thai Wrap.  I love it!

Their various Bowls are just awful and bland. Terrible. Burgers and shakes very good.
