I wish there was a 4.5 option! I L-O-V-E the look of this spot. The bartenders are friendly and pour a decent appletini, but they don't serve them in fun martini glasses, just rocks glasses - for that, the drink price should be lower. I've been here a few times, and I always ended dancing up a storm.
When we were here to celebrate Jenn-tember, we saw John Legend perform. THAT WAS INSANELY AMAZING. It totally made the cover fee worthwhile.
The crowd spans different age ranges, and it's heavily advertised on KMEL. There were no gold grills in evidence, which is a plus for a BAP girl like me! Guys here tend to be a little friendlier and deal with rejection on the dance floor better than some other Oakland clubs. -

Excellent nightclub in downtown Oakland!
We went to this club recently to see Phife from Tribe Called Quest perform and liked it so much that we have gone back twice just for drinks and dancing on random nights.
The space is great, super high ceilings with a big bar room and a big dancefloor room (and a VIP section upstairs which I have yet to see). The bartenders are very attentive and personable and they all seem to have a seriously heavy pour!
The decor shows that there was a lot of thought and effort put into it. We have all seen clubs & restaurants that just throw money at a decorator. The result is an upscale feel but often somewhat generic (or worse gaudy). Whoever did @17th cut corners where they could but splurged on all the right things. Stylish barstools, beautiful light fixtures, very attractive comfortable furniture for the reserved tables and booths (some on the bar side and some on the dancefloor side, all with a very reasonable minimum bar tab). The result is a stellar atmosphere.
I really like the crowd at @17th. Not too young, lots of interesting people who have a personal sense of style.
(Have you ever walked into a bar/club in San Francisco and thought "Have I been tranported to Palo Alto? Does everyone in here shop at the same store? Do they subscribe to a newsletter that sets strict boundaries about what hair/clothes/jewelery styles are currently acceptable? Are they purposely making an effort to blend in ?" I have. The crowd at @17th is far, far away from that bland homogenous thing.)
I have found the people to be friendly. There have been lots of good looking, well-dressed guys there and in my experience they have been outgoing and charming without being pushy.
I highly recommend you spend a night at @17th soon! -

I say it's just okay.
It seems like it should be more than it is but it certainly shouldn't charge that much of a price.
Definitely a more ethnically representative collection of patrons than most SF clubs with a lean towards elegant dress which is appreciated. -

Ghetto fabulous. Some cute girls, but I'd say the majority have kids. Dress code is strict and the cover is $15+
Crowd is majority black and not classy (trying but it ain't working). I'd say mostly hood rats wearing their best clothes. You might catch some quality in there but its gonna be few and far between.
If you like ghetto fabulous and Hyphy music all night long, then this is for you. HOWEVER, some nights they have good RnB or Hip Hop artists perform...those would be the only nights I'd recommend going. -

Cigar's for us all. My roomy and I often roll out on our missions as team. Dancing, movies and the like. I've had some great evenings w/ M. One of which is the night we stepped in to @ 17th for a little cigar rolling. Originally built for a former roaring 1920's cabaret near the corner of 17th Street and Telegraph Avenue @ 17th has the makings of the one of the nicest modern clubs in the Bay Area. You are greeted @ the door by the Brotha's of the Muslim faith and told in the kindest of ways to be safe and have a good time. Walking in you pass your ticket window on the right and walk through the curtain made of all these metal chains that consist of tiny spheres linked together. Sort of like the stuff you would hang dog tags around your neck only bigger. The large circular couch to left is looking so plush you want to drive right in. Huge bar and ill dance floor Check it @ : http://www.at17th.com/ We went for the cigar show. Jose R. Sanchez is a professional cigar roller. Mr. Sanchez has been trained in Cuba and worked in well known Cigar Factories in Cuba for over 15 years. Let Mr. Sanchez roll you his own complex spicy and rich blended cigar. It will blow you god damn mind!! "Just Easy" is "THE" Oakland Cigar company. Catch him by checking the website. You might even get a free cigar and dance lesson.
