One word: Beer.
If you like beer, you'll like 1702. They offer up an expansive selection with beers that you don't see everywhere (Left Hand Milk Stout on Nitro, anyone?) along with some regional favorites.
Being close to campus can draw in some douchery, but I can overlook that as I indecisively glare at the huge tap list.
The pizza is also surprisingly good. I'm always wary when I see gigantic slices of pizza because they tend to be soggy and greasy. But here they do it right: a good selection of toppings and a nice crispy crust. Perfect compliment to a great beer. -
Review from Marina M.
A variety of brown ales available (mmmm moose drool....) and yummy pizza slices the size of your torso (well almost) makes 1702 a winner in my book. The service however can be slow and at times feels non-existent. I have had waitresses though that are way on-the-ball and give good service.
They often have mead on the menu, which is not something you see everywhere.
Aaaand walking distance from my lab. Yes! -

Really like the pizza here and I have had the cheese bread. I think it is so cute the mini pizza cuter you get when you order a slice. You definitely need the cutter to break down that big sucker. In the times I have been there the staff has always been really nice (Even when it is close to closing time). They have TONS and TONS of beer available. My boyfriend loves the beer selection.
Great Pizza! Try it! -
Review from Jane B.
I swore off cheese for a few weeks, and my husband, forgetting that, brings me a "slice" of pizza from 1702. The slice was the size of an entire medium pizza. So much for not eating cheese! It was a cheese, black olive and onion slice with just the right amount of sauce. The sauce was zappy, but just kind of rode along with the rest of the flavors.
I'll be going back for a whole pizza, but I think, based on the size of the slice, I'll need a U-Haul to get it home! -

Well drove here to celebrate B'Day, (20 days ago) fantastic time with friends, awesome pizza, superb service, and of course wonderful beer selection. We were lucky to get "hooked" up by Ty, with some special hidden gems from the basement and a sample from the nano brewery. We just came back from a visit to Seattle, escape the heat, (Palm Springs/Tucson) and tried 3 brew pubs: Elysian, Pike and Anacortes. Tucson people have got it good! 1702 is still the place! Washington beers seem to be watered down, small flavor, so-so. Nice that 1702 can offer many different beers and serve great food too. The 3 breweries had neither to our liking, though we are 'big' Porter, Stout and Imperial ale drinkers, quality over quantity, and 1702 delivers all the time.

This has to be one of my favorite pizza places in Tucson. Most of the time you find it full of U of A students, but it is without a doubt divine pizza! I have never really bad food there.
They have a plethora of beers, but just beers. They have so many you can't go wrong.
I love this place...fun to eat and hang out at!
I give it 4 out of 5 because the service is usually slower, but it is still great. -

You really can't lose going to 1702. Allow me to break it down.
It's always easy to find a restaurant when it's name also happens to be it's address. (1702 Speedway). My one complaint about 1702 would be the inside. It's a bit small, but most nights, my friends and I manage to get seated fairly quick. There are a few flat screens for the sports lovers, enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS, yet tasty) slices of pizza, and for all you beer aficionados out there--a 10pt font, single spaced, small margined 11" x 8.5" inch sheet of copy paper full of microbrewery drafts on tap. For me, the beer selection, alone, warrants a trip and proves to make a fun and enjoyable dining experience where you can enjoy a variety of beer. It's a fantastic place for groups and also is within walking distance of the University.
Note: Ask for beer samples. -

My BFF would move in here if he could. I usually only go here with my crazy friends who make it hard to have a good experience. They are kinda rude to the staff but the staff is always nice and helpful. The other day was my 1st time alone to try the chicken ice cream. It was good and so was the pesto pizza. Service was really good too.

Best pizza so far in Tucson. I am from NY so I guess you could call me a pizza snob. 1702 had some of the best pizza I have tasted in Tucson. We also ordered the hop bread which was delicious and of course a couple of beers which were great. The beer selection was phenomenal. Definitely a great Friday night place. We will be back!

I'm in love with the fact that the slices are larger than my head and they give you your own pizza cutter to eat with. I'm a frequent visitor and am slowly working my way through the specialty pie menu. My favorite so far is the Odysseus. They also have a rockin' bar with lots of beer selections, some you know, some you've probably never heard of. All worth a try! (In moderation, of course.)

Good pizza. They have specialty pizzas for all sorts of diets. Huge beer selection too. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but the beer menu is huge. Can get loud and crowded during busy times.

I believe this place is called 1702 because they offer 1,702 beers on tap...
or, because it has such a delicious flavor and aroma it dates back to the time of 1702 when the first pizza was baked in Sicily using this very same recipe used today in the Old Pueblo?
or, maybe its the address?
I don't know. I really don't care why it's named this... but I ordered a basic pepperoni pizza and it rocked all three of our worlds'. Who knew a basic pep pizza would bring about that much happiness in the middle of the week?
It's a little tight on parking and hard to see (thats what she said) ... but if it's an off-time I will certainly come back here and beer me a great time! -

This place is so easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, just one more delicious discovery thanks to yelp.
1702 is great place to grab a pizza a good craft brew beer or both at the same time The place is very casual and you can tell university workers and students love this place because there is a constant stream of them in here.
The pizza is great and the slices are large and delicious. I used to think Arizona pizza had the best by the slice in town but 1702 proved me wrong. I would happily drive the extra couple miles for a slice of this pie.
The crust is good, toppings fresh, sauce tasty, and service good.
My only complaint is that the cheese slices are pre baked, topped and then re-done. This is normal for big by the slice pizza but I missed the gooey cheese retaining my toppings as most of them fell off when I wanted a bite. I easily could have remedied this by just ordering a whole pizza but even in a 5 star review you gotta have a grievance somewhere.Listed in: Best of Tucson

Okay, well I'm not much of a beer person so I can't say much on that front, but from what my friends (who are beer people) tell me, apparently you won't find a better selection.
I've come here with a bunch of my buddies after classes and we all sit at a table and discuss (argue) the pros and cons of each of the beers. Well...they argue and I just sit there happily munching on my pizza.
If it wasn't obvious from my last couple of sentences, I'm all about the pizza in this place. You pay $5 (plus change for toppings) and you get a slice of pizza that's the size you dreamed of as a kid. It's as big as your face, and in my case, as big as my shoe (we checked...no I did not stick my shoe in the slice).
The biggest problem I have with this place is the parking. There just isn't enough of it and it's very narrow. I know space for parking is limited due to it's location, but I sometimes avoid going there just because of the parking situation. -
Review from Julia K.
The only good thing about my 1702 experience was the company I went with :( After a grueling week (seriously a tough one), I just wanted to chill over good brew and food. It was a big fat expensive disappointment!
The parking situation is ridiculous! I understand that 1702 may not be able to help this... but it certainly had me a bit edgy by the time we found a place and walked through the door. When you know your clientele has either walked 18 miles to get there or is risking an expensive ticket... you should work harder to please.
We started with cheesy bread that was bland. After adding parmesan and salt it was a bit better but the marinara dipping sauce was freezing cold. We ordered a very expensive pizza that was also very bland. I swear, it wasn't just me... everyone at my table agreed.
The service was disastrous! It started out okay but at least 3 times in the hour and a half we were there the server would come over, listen to one person order a drink and take off like the starting gun had sounded at a race. We sat without a drink more often than we sat with one. When my friend asked for a sample, it came out in a shot glass with not one, but two different colored lipstick prints on the edge. Ewwww!
We finished eating and sat for at least 20 minutes without seeing a bill. When we did it was crazy expensive. It was so loud and crowded by then I couldn't wait to get out of there. I am fairly certain I'll never go back again... not worth it :( -

REALLY? Who gives a place with over 50 beers on tap a 2?? Sorry guys...I wanted to give this place a great review but I just can't do it. My hubs and I just stopped in for a quick beer to check the place out before our date out. We literally sat there for about 20-25 minutes before we asked for a menu which got thrown on our table 10 minutes after we asked. We then had to chase the waitress down again to order our beers. Needless to say we left right after the beer was gone.
I promise to try again 1702, but first impressions linger hard! Good thing most of your reviews are high or else I would give up now!Listed in: Beer:30, Don't Give Up!

Review from Mark S.
Any place that has 2,476 beers on tap is OK with me. OK... maybe I am over-exaggerating about the number but it seems like that to me. Also, any place that can get my wife (who hates beer) to drink beer deserves a bow-down.
Oh yeah... they got some mighty fine pizza too. Slices are bigger-than-your-head-get-a-box-now-cuz-you-are-de finitely-taking-some-home kinda big.
We had:
Me:
Beer: an IPA I have never had before (and I have had a lot) from a brewer which I cannot recall. Shame on me... and I call myself a beer drinker.
Food: a slice of the Roman, aka Combo, Pizza. All the stuff I love on a pizza and an adorable little personal pizza cutter.
Wife:
Beer: She is more partial to wine and mixed drinks. She does not like beer, but that's all they have besides soft drinks here. She told the server this and the server brought her samples of some stuff she might like. She settled on a Raspberry Framboise. She drank it and said she enjoyed it... but I am not so sure. What a trooper.
Food: a slice of Ham and Pineapple.
The pizza was very good. We did wish we had asked for some sauce on the side. There is a fine line between too little and too much sauce. We like to have some in case there is too little and, in this case, there was. With slices this size, they would probably run out by noon if they used too much.
Beer and pizza is a classic combination and 1702 does it in style!Listed in: City Limits, Get There!, Picking up the pieces, Mmmm... Beer.

What can you say about a quaint little Pizza joint in Tuscon with 52 Craft & Belgian Beers On Tap? Fantastic! A slice of pizza is bigger than my head, the toppings are always fresh & the food comes out of the kitchen at Blazing Speed.
Next, The Beer: 52 Craft & Belgian Handles, many I have NEVER seen On Tap! Austin, the proprietor truly knows his craft! This kind of Beer Selection is mostly unheard of in San Diego or Phoenix much less Tuscon.
This is a Must Try Arizona! Make a day of it, take a road trip & say you were there! I did! -

I was able to stop by for lunch and for my first ever visit I learned that their pizza slices are HUGE!!! As someone who grew up on the East Coast in the NY/NJ area I was floored by the size of their slices. I would recommend only ordering one slice if you're eating alone. I wasn't able to sample their slew of beers they offer but I'll try them next time. Best pizza I've tasted since moving here to Southern Arizona.

Met some friends here recently. The whole affair got off to a rough start but turned out okay in the end. We sat at our table for about 15 minutes before anyone said hello. Another patron, who got tired of waiting, went to the bar to order and then dropped off a menu at our table on the way back to his, which I thought was hilarious. Eventually someone came by to apologize, explain they were short-staffed and took our order. Our beers came out so fast I completely forgot about the prior wait.
Since I'm not anywhere close to being a beer aficionado, I told our server what I liked and didn't like and asked for a suggestion. She brought out a tangerine wheat beer that was so good I drank two. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their selections as well.
The pizza was quite good. I don't like red sauce on my pizza so I opted for a pesto sauce with cheese and tomatoes. It was a good choice. My friend ordered a slice of the Odysseus with meatballs and was kind enough to give me a piece. It was awesome. I will definitely be back to have my own slice.
I absolutely loved the tiny little pizza cutters that they give you as a utensil. It's a unique touch that I don't believe I've seen anywhere else. And since each "slice" is practically the size of a 10 inch pie you need it. Maybe the pizza gods are offended by the use of a fork and "knife" but there's no way I could have picked this thing up as it was delivered to the table.
I got a kick out of the chairs at some of the tables. They looked like they came straight out of an office from the 1980's. Wide, wheeled, armed chairs that were great for relaxing while we visited.Listed in: TAPS - And Not of the…, The Not-So-Usual Pizza

Like pizza? Like Beer? 'Nough said.
If you don't find their selection of beer on tap impressive, or their gargantuan pizza slices to be so worth the money, there's nothing that can be done for you. The waitressing can be spotty when they're busy, and there's only one bathroom, but other than that, I'm perfectly satisfied every time! P.S. check out their home made ice cream! -

I enjoy beer very much, therefore, I love 1702! Mucho beer on tap + delicious pizza = a VERY happy me! Visited last night for my bf's family get together and it was packed (as usual). We were able to snag a table after waiting for 15 mins.
I've only ever had beer at 1702 but was really excited to try the pizza because it always looks so good! To start we ordered the Hop bread and wings. OMG the Hop bread was amazing. It was covered in cheese and garlic and had a hoppy bitter taste that went so well with the warm marinara. The wings were okay. The hot sauce was standard and tasty but the wings were a little soggy....I am not a fan of wiggly chicken skin. I like that were not fried but the skin kinda freaked me out. Aside from wiggly skin the chicken was tender and overall tasty.
After we nommed all that, we placed our pizza order: 14" Islanda, hold the Green peppers and a 14" Pepperoni. The Islanda was amazing. I loves LOVES me some cheese and the Islanda was covered is slightly melted Feta...I mean COVERED! mmmm The pepperoni was a standard pepperoni pizza, lots of pepperoni but not too much. The crusts were very crispy on the bottom and soft on top. I can't wait to go back and get their calzone.
As far as beer went, my original choice was the Velvet Merlin (Merkin) because after our 10 day long beer and wine tour, the Velvet Merlin was the beer I absolutely fell in love with and it's sold at Total Wine! Just my luck they were all out. The waitress was nice enough to bring a few samples of other similar beers w/o wasting time. I didn't like either so I ordered the Milk stout. That beer is like a meal, very rich and heavy and head is like melted ice cream. I love it. After that I ordered a floral IPA to go along with the pizza. I forget the name but it was good, not something I'd get to casually sip but it did go very well with the Islanda.
This be one of my fave places to drink beer! -

This place is awesome. They have a huge variety of different beer from well known breweries and it also Caters to different tastes. I discovered this place with my husband and they never disappoint. They rotate their taps and have up to 52 different beer and cider on tap at a time. They also update their list every Sunday and as needed during the week.... Loving it

1702 is Tucson's beer mecca! You won't find Bud Lite or PBR among the 50 some beers on tap or the dozens of bottled beers!
Overwhelmed by your beer options? Ask one of the knowledgeable waitresses what type of beer you like and they will give you a suggestion or three. You can sample a few of the brews before making your decision.
Make sure to grab a slice of pizza while there. Slices are big enough to share! IMO, the best pizza in Tucson!Listed in: Best Bars

This place would be 5 stars if they had more waitstaff to accommodate the high volumes of people that constantly flock this joint.
1702 has the best beer selections on tap in Tucson, and they are constantly switching out kegs and changing up the selection. Every time I go it is a surprise.
I commend this place for carrying sour beers or flemish brown ales. It isn't for everyone, but this style is becoming increasingly popular, and this is the first place I have had New Belgium's La Folie on tap. It was love at first taste. I will continue to look our for more sour beers on tap here.
The waitstaff is knowledgeable in the beer selection, so if you have no idea what you are looking at, you can describe the kind of beer you like, and they will give you a taster of something they think you will like.
The pizza here is fabulous and slices are the size of your head, but what is even better is their cheesey bread, which comes in two versions, garlic or hoppy. I prefer the garlic, but if you are fan of IPA's or other hoppy beers, I would definitely suggest trying out the hop bread, because it really is delicious! I haven't had hop bread anywhere else.
I have never had a bad time here, although patience will be needed on some nights, because like I said, they really don't have enough waitstaff for the amount of people that frequent this place. I have come in bigger groups and smaller groups, and honestly I prefer to be there with max 4 people.
Give this place a shot, especially if you are into the craft beer scene. Beers are from all over the US and around the world! You might not be able to find some of what they have on tap anywhere else in Tucson. -

Yum! Ok I have to admit I've never eaten any pizza at 1702, just calzones...but I love them so whenever I go I get a calzone. Oh and they are huge...my boyfriend and I always split them. Plus they have a large, ever-changing beer selection which is great.
Update: I finally ate some pizza here...it was tasty! Also, my party had the hops bread appetizer...and it is like eating an IPA as the menu claims! YUM! -

Here I am, nearly the duchess, and I have not written a review yet! 1702 is without a doubt, my go-to place for beer on draught in Tucson. The selection is wide and ever-changing, though you may find they are often out of your first choice. The servers are usually knowledgable enough to make a back up suggestion. The motto here is laid back. The service varies from sullen to maniacally happy. It's definitely the kind of service that only exists in a college town. Don't expect food that will blow your mind. 1702 is known for slices larger than your head and it's about quantity, not quality here. Though they have a couple interesting speciality pies. The owner loves sours but claims he doesn't drink beer. No matter, a friend of sours is a friend of mine! Bottom line, 1702 has a lot of different and unique beers that you're not going to find anywhere else in Southern Arizona.

Okay, so tell me if this sounds good to you:
There's this place, 1702, where they have like a gazillion beers on tap, and they change all the time. You can get little glasses of anything you want, so you get to try a whole lot of different stuff (just ask your server for the 5oz sizes). And they carry really good beers from all around the world, so you're bound to find something you like.
They also serve enormous slices of pizza with lots of different toppings. The slices are so huge that they give you a pizza slicing wheel and a fork to eat them with. After you eat, you can get ice cream which they make themselves and is mind-blowingly good. You seriously won't believe how good this ice cream is.
Also the tables have lazy susans in them. Not a huge deal, I know, but they're pretty entertaining. You can...like...put your glass on them and then move it to be in front of someone else. Trust me: it's really fun. Especially if you're cool. The tables themselves are big enough to seat a bunch of people, and you can move them together if you have a crowd -- you can easily have ten people sitting together and feel like you can have a conversation with everyone at the table. It's a perfect setup for large groups, but I've been just as comfortable going with just one other person.
Anyway, are you in? Of course you are. Places like these are pure gold in a town like this. If you've never been to 1702, you really owe it to yourself to give it a shot.
So why only four stars? For one thing, the service can be hit-or-miss, especially when it gets super busy. Granted, it's always difficult for staff when there are huge crowds of hungry and thirsty people, and that is no doubt exacerbated by the complexity of the menu. It also bears mentioning that some of the folks on the staff are absolutely incredible, and that the hits have certainly outweighed the misses. But some nights it has felt like our server was not even glancing in our direction to assure us that we would be attended to soon, and that can be really frustrating when folks have been waiting for a while.
For another thing, the food is good but not incredible, and if you opt for a gourmet slice (which I often do), you're shelling out a little more than 8 bucks for a piece of pizza (before tax and tip). That's pretty expensive -- about the same expenditure at Zachary's will get you a slice of higher-quality pizza AND a pretty good beer.
But those caveats shouldn't distract from the main point here, which is that 1702 is totally epic and totally worth visiting, especially if you like beer. Maybe I'll see you there!Listed in: Places to Take Visitors

I have been here twice in 2 weeks because of my bff. We love beer and if it wasn't for him I never would have been interested in beer. 1702 has beer launch parties every so often and that is a major draw for people. I have never seen so many good beers on draft in Tucson. Old Chicago has some good stuff but this place is above and beyond. I had a coconut porter from Maui brewing the other day and I was so happy. I had only ever had it in a can.
We ordered food too. The pizza was good. The toppings were fresh and I was quite impressed. The only thing is I would have liked more sauce on my pizza. Next time I will ask for that. We also had wings. The wings had good flavor.
I have to say that it was extremely busy the times that I had been there. Service is slow and that is kind of a bummer. All in all a good time.Listed in: IPA'S, Stouts, Porters oh my!, Pizza!

Do it...do it now!!! I think this is one of my favorite places in Tucson. The service is always a lil slow but when they do come to the table its like drinking 2 sugar free red bulls back to back. They are attentive, friendly and willing to chat and make recommendations. The beer list is quite long and a bit overwhelming but the servers do a great job of being educated and educating the customer. I always order a slice of pizza which is ginormous and comes with its own lil polly pocket version of a pizza slicer. Brings me back to my easy bake oven days. *sigh* This place is just plain rad!

Review from Mike P.
The beer list is impressive. We got an order of the hop bread, which was great if you like hops. If you don't love hops, I'd go with a different app. At first I was a little skeptical of the price of the single slices of pizza, but they're justified. When they brought our order out, the individual slices came with pizza cutters. Each slice is about the size of a small pizza at most places.

Review from Anthony S.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant, not only do they have the best selection of beer in Tucson, they also have most of that beer on tap and the waiters almost always find me a beer I've not had before and that I thoroughly enjoy.
The pizza is the best pizza I've ever had 90% of the time (when they don't under-cook it), and when it's cooked right the bread is crispy and has the perfect bread flavor without the need for seasoning (I think they might put a little olive oil on but that's it). Don't get me wrong, when they do mess it up a little, I still enjoy every bite. The slices are enormous, probably about 14" long and 10" wide or so. I once tried to eat 4 slices got to almost 3 and unintentionally vomited from over eating (and I can eat a lot).
The ice cream is literally the best dessert I've ever had, it's creamy and rich and they always serve it at just the right level of melt. Occasionally they have some amazing flavors like the chocolate stout, I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate chip, but the vanilla is always great. The ice cream isn't on the menu (As of the last time I visited), so ask for it, if you even remotely like sweets, you will not regret it.
I go to 1702 absolutely every single time I am in Tucson (it is in fact one of the main reasons I go there). I've been a fan since I was in school and it was called "Local Dough". I can't imagine ever recommending any place higher in terms of quality, quantity and value, and trust me, I am a harsh critic (see my other reviews).
If someone offered me a free dinner at Spagos or 1702, I'd take 1702 every time. -

A great place for beer. 50 beers on tap! But, don't go for the pizza. Went on a night of a home Arizona game so wasn't too crowded. Sat at the bar. Service was okay but would have thought better for where we sat. Sure a slice covers a 14" pizza pan, but it was bland. Only time I can remember in having to put salt on a pizza. Looks like they take a slice of their cheese pizza and pile on the toppings then re-heat in oven. Had the the Meatsa slice ($8.10), lots of meat, nice crispy crust but hardly any flavor.

1702 deserves ten stars for their beer selection. With over 50 on tap, it's one of, if not the best, in town.
Their pizza is pretty good. The individual slices are ridiculously huge. Is there better pizza in town? Yes. But, this pizza is here, where all the beers are. The sauce is slightly spicy, and it has a good crust.
Service is not that great. The night we were there, they didn't make a waiting list, so people were randomly wandering the restaurant, just waiting for someone to get up so they could jump at the table. We had a large party (8), and no one really explained what was going on to us (one guy told us to find a table ourselves, another didn't really say anything and ended up giving us a table after 30 minutes). I would not come here with a large party again.
But, come for the beer. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. -

Many moons ago, I was but a freshman that had come out of NYC down to Zona for school and I was disheartened because I thought I would never have tasty pizza again until my coming of home. Yay, did I find 1702 and a slice of their pizza was consumed. After drinking many a beer with friends off the amazing beer list I look back and though it pains me to say, that this pizza is easily on par with many of the pizza joints back in Manhattan. You keep doing what you do 1702, because you are doing it damn well.

Great pizza, great beer, better selection. They have a running list of 40+ beers that they change out every so often. I've been told they have "special relations" with local breweries so they get access to some frosty brews that aren't found in many other places. I try to come by often to grab a slice of delicious and taste a beer I've never even heard of.
If you're allergic to vegetables like me, I would recommend their Meata pizza. It's super meaty as the name implies and there isn't a single green object on it whatsoever. Hopefully you come hungry because their slices are humongor (the surface area of 2 baby heads), warranting a personal pizza slicer for each individual in place of a knife. -

One of the best draft beer selections in Tucson catering specifically to craft-brewed IPAs, Imperial IPAs, stouts, and porters. The pizza is delicious as well. This is a must-visit destination for Tucson beer lovers.

I've been here a handful of times. I think the best thing to do is order a pizza slice with 3 of your favorite toppings. I like sausage, ricotta cheese and sun dried tomatoes. One slice is about a 1/4 of a large pizza so it'll get you full. Beer selection is amazing. I also tried their hot wings. Pretty standard, but tasty if you're in the mood. I would definitely eat here again.
Tip: Service is always friendly, but it can take some time to get your food. Don't eat here if you're in a rush.
